A federal judge initially dismissed Boosie’s firearm possession case in San Diego back in July. In doing so, they deemed it unconstitutional to stop a nonviolent felon from owning a gun. However, the prosecution filed a completely new indictment just two weeks later. Now Boosie’s facing charges of interstate commerce as a convicted felon and knowingly possessing a firearm while dealing with abuse of a controlled substance.

Boosie Badazz Wants Help From The Next President

It’s not the first time Boosie has made headlines for his antics on social media this week. On Monday, he complained about men painting their nails. “IF A MAN IS PAINTING HIS NAILS, ITS EQUAL TO A MAN WEARING A THONG UP HIS AXX #realtalk get it sexy get it sexy,” he wrote with several laughing emojis. It led to ample backlash on the platform. Be on the lookout for further updates on Boosie Badazz on HotNewHipHop.

Big Sean & Gunna Are A Resilient Duo On “It Is What It Is”

Big Sean made sure to highlight a lot of relatable topics on his new album, Better Me Than You. It’s fair to say that everyone needs some extra motivation at times to get through a long day at work, a rough patch, and etc. Whatever the case may be, hip-hop music can typically be a place where listeners go to get a boost of adrenaline to conquer the day. Big Sean’s sixth studio album has a fair number of tracks like that, including his Gunna collab “It Is What It Is”.

This is the first time that we have ever heard these two together and it turns out they complement each other well. It helps that their styles aren’t drastically different, but nonetheless, it’s great to Sean looking to expand his horizons. On “It Is What It Is”, both MCs are talking about what they’ve done to block out the noise to get where they want to go in life. Sacrifice, taking baby steps, and removing certain people out their lives were just a few strategies they applied. Besides the topical focus, the beat is also a homerun, as Gunna’s most frequent producer Turbo shows up here. Him, along with Omar Grand, concoct a Hispanic/trap fusion with trumpets and punchy drum kicks. It’s woozy, grand in scale, and overall, just a great listen.

Amazon Games CEO Claims Video Games Don’t Have Acting, Enrages Striking Video Game Actors

images

By: Zachary Abbott

Increasingly, AI has created tension between corporations seeking to streamline product development and trim costs and creatives seeking protections against having their contributions entirely replaced.  In July, this came to a head in the video game industry, where members of the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) who perform in video games went on strike for protection against AI encroachment.  Against this background, Christoph Hartmann, CEO of Amazon Games, caused significant controversy last week when he stated that “[in] games, we don’t really have acting” and advocated adding AI to game development.

In an interview with IGN, a popular video game news source, Hartmann stated that he hoped that AI could lessen the lengthy development times of games because it currently takes “five years per game,” and commented further that “hopefully AI will help us to streamline processes so hand-done work will go fast.  Ideally we can get it down to three years.”  When asked about the SAG-AFTRA strike, Hartmann responded that “especially for games, we don’t really have acting . . . [t]he majority of the team sits in programming and that’s not going to go away because that’s all about innovation.”  He received heavy criticism over these comments, with people pointing to games like Baldur’s Gate 3, The Last of Us, and Cyberpunk 2077, which are extremely popular games largely because the character acting elevates them into a unique and special experience.

In response to this criticism, an Amazon spokesperson addressed the “confusion” caused by Hartmann’s comments and explained that they were intended to reference internal development teams, and that Amazon Games typically does not have actors on staff.  Amazon stated, “[a]s with any tool, we believe generative AI needs to be used responsibly and we’re carefully exploring how we can use it to help solve the technical challenges development teams face.”   Reading Hartmann’s remarks in context, these “explorations” appear to include the localization of game dialogue in different countries.  Hartmann remarked that “what could be super helpful is localization. We’re currently localizing our game into a certain set of languages. Does it commercially make sense to have it in a language, yes or no? Having AI actually will help us.”  It should be noted that using AI to directly localize voice acting by using an AI copy of an actor’s voice to generate new dialogue in a new language would likely be a violation of the AI protections that SAG-AFTRA members are currently seeking, if the actor has not granted approval or been compensated.

Sarah Elmaleh, the SAG-AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement negotiating committee chair, stated in response to Hartmann’s remarks, stating that  “[w]hether game design, localization, programming, acting, anything – these highly specialized and professionalized workers are the ones who understand whether and how AI might be assistive or detrimental in their work. And workers should have the right and the means to advocate for the proper use of this tool.”

As game developers explore new ways to use generative AI, the livelihood of artists, actors, and other creatives remains at risk until the parties can have a productive dialogue.  Negotiation of the SAG-AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement provides a framework to do this. However, Hartmann’s recent remarks and the reaction to them suggest that this dialogue is still a work in progress.

Today in Hip-Hop History: Nice & Smooth Dropped Their ‘Ain’t A Damn Thing Changed’ LP 33 Years Ago

image asset 750x400

On this date 33 years ago, BX Hip Hop duo Nice and Smooth released their sophomore album Ain’t A Damn Thing Changed on the Rush Associated Labels imprint.

Back in 1991 when Naughty By Nature was just putting us on to the meaning of O.P.P., Nice & Smooth were seasoned MCs gearing up for their second effort. This succeeded their self-titled debut album, which came like a breath of fresh air to the “no smiles” rap climate among NY emcees in the early 90s. Songs that dropped real-life melodic messages like the Tracy Chapman inspired “Sometimes I Rhyme Slow” and the party-driven “Hip Hop Junkies” made for a solid project that was played on the radio and respected in the streets. Their harmonizing was a return to the era where performers put on a show and if you ever see Nice and Smooth live, you know that’s exactly what you get.

Shout out to Greg Nice and Smooth Bee for blessing the fans with this classic!

YSL RICO Trial: Lil Woody Sends Young Thug Into Fit Of Laughter With Question About Rich Homie Quan

Lil Woody sent Young Thug into a fit of laughter during the latest hearing in the YSL RICO trial after responding to a question about Rich Homie Quan. In a viral clip of the moment, Woody responds facetiously to a question about Thug having Rich Homie Quan over. “Thug, did you have an issue with Rich Homie?’ Woody asks Thug, before turning back to the prosecutor. “I’m answering you. I just told you several times.” As the camera pans over the Thug, he’s breaking into laughter.

As the clip circulated on social media, fans joined Thug in the laughter. “Is this the only witness they got [laughing emojis]. I know they did not base their whole case on him,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another joked: “He the starting point guard that just. Got a max deal for this case and he foldin the franchise.” One more wrote: “No one is taking this case serious anymore. Almost everyone in the room was holding back laughing.”

Opening statements are set to begin in the case against 31-year-old US rapper Young Thug and 28 others, who are facing a racketeering indictment accusing the defendants of a number of offenses that support an overarching conspiracy charge, including murder, assault, carjacking, drug dealing, and theft. Tuesday marked Woody’s 16th day on the stand as one of the state’s star witnesses in the case. He previously made headlines by admitting to having lied about Young Thug back in 2015 to help himself out of legal trouble. “The police kept locking me up for whatever they could,” he said. “Every time I counted the door, the police was on me, and they keep bringing up Thug’s name. So what I did was to get ’em out off me, I said, ‘Thug did this. Thug did that. Thug,’ because I knew they were—I knew he didn’t do it.”

Lil Woody’s Antics Continue In YSL RICO Trial

It’s not the only viral moment from Woody’s testimony either. He’s also fired his lawyer on the stand, tried to bait Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, into saying the n-word, and more. Be on the lookout for further updates on Lil Woody and the YSL RICO trial on HotNewHipHop.

Ice Spice’s Father Responds To Cleotrapa’s Claims That He’s Hispanic & Not Nigerian

All day and even going back to the wee hours of the night before, rappers Ice Spice and Cleotrapa have been airing out their dirty laundry on X. This all started because of the latter claiming to have received awful treatment while being on the roster for the Y2K! tour. Both have been making wild statements about each other and currently, Cleo has the last word. Just moments ago, she called out the “Phat Butt” MC for lying about her dad’s nationality, saying that he’s actually Hispanic. Fans have had differing opinions on this tweet, but the artist’s father is making sure that his words come across as clear as possible.

According to The Neighborhood Talk, Joseph Gaston wants to make it known right away that he doesn’t want any part of this. While doing so he sets the record straight and essentially tells Cleo to zip it. “@iamcleotrapa we met twice in the green room. We barely spoke, who said I’m Hispanic?”, he began. “Ken I’m gonna dead this right here. I’m a black man. Born and raised in the BX. Keep me out this bulls***”. What’s even wilder, some people were asking for proof and he said that he’s taken an ancestry test to confirm all of this in the past.

A post shared by The Neighborhood Talk (@theneighborhoodtalk)

“More like 30% and a mix of other countries like Ghana, ivory coast, Senegal, Mali, Cameroon. Taino.” That was a response to someone who said he was even less Nigerian that. However, he doesn’t appear to be taking offense to any of this as he says he does have Latino family members. In one breath, Cleo was correct, but nowhere near 100%, kind of like some other things she claimed earlier today.

What are your thoughts on Ice Spice’s father’s response to Cleotrapa’s accusations that he’s actually Hispanic? Who do you think these two will bring into their feud next? Who is currently taking this way too far the most so far and why? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments.
