Gunna Looks At The Pros & Cons Of Life On “Bittersweet”

To say that Gunna has gone through a lot in the past year and a half would be an understatement. The YSL rap member has been dragged through the mud by some for taking the plea deal in the ongoing RICO case. It became the main focus and theme of his 2023 record a Gift & a Curse. Since then, he has gone on to release his banger with producer Turbo called “Bachelor.” But that was in late 2023. Gunna did promise new music and he has delivered just that with “Bittersweet.”

This new single accomplishes the goal he set out for himself which was “substance.” That was a vague answer he gave to the TMZ crew while in Beverly Hills in early January. Gunna also talked about his next album having a heavy focus on the Afrobeat genre. “Bittersweet” does not accomplish the latter, but it does deliver on the “substance” side of things.

Listen To “Bittersweet” By Gunna

“Bittersweet” is produced by one of the many talents within the Working on Dying collective. Gunna makes references to the issues he has faced with the RICO ordeal, Lil Baby, and working on himself. He raps about the YSL gang saying, “Thinkin’ ’bout the crew again, could we reunite ’em? / S*** done been slow motion, but the peace steady climbing.” The minimal guitar-backed instrumental is a nice backdrop for Gunna’s heartfelt lyrics. This truly is one of his best songs and it sounds like it would fit right at home on this project he has brewing.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Bittersweet,” by Gunna? Is this her best song over the last year or so? Do you think this is part of an album rollout or just a loosie? Where does this rank amongst the rest of his deeper cuts? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

S*** been rough, but I ain’t too tough to say I love and I miss you
You my dawg, I don’t care if we fall out, n****, I never could diss you
For the chains and the fame, only we seen the vision
‘Bout my name, let it bang, goin’ out with my pistol
Got me a taste of this fame, it was sweet, now it’s bitter
Maybach came with pillows, I can’t talk in no pillows (Uh)

Young Thug And Gunna 2017 Arrest Photos Shown In YSL Trial

Young Thug’s YSL trial is continuing to rumble on and even though it’s been nearly a year since he pleaded out, Gunna is still involved. Earlier today the prosecution introduced some new evidence that included photos of Thug and Gunna in 2017. The pictures are taken during an arrest after a traffic stop. The pair were reportedly found with meth, hydrocodone, marijuana and cash. While the prosecution focused on its connection to alleged YSL gang activities but fans online took notice for a different reason.

One of the most attention-grabbing claims made by the defense came early in the case. They stated that the “Thug” in Young Thug is actually an acronym standing for “Truly Humble Under God.” That claim has stuck in the heads of fans watching along with the trial. That’s why many took notice of the arrest photos from 2017 because of Thug’s shirt. He’s sporting a black shirt with the text “Fear Of God” on it, something the prosecutors didn’t directly acknowledge. Check out the pictures themselves below.

Young Thug And Gunna Arrest Photos In Court

The video isn’t particularly dramatic but the leak still rubbed many fans the wrong way. People who saw the leak on Twitter discussed how uncomfortable it made them feel invading both artist’s privacy just by watching the clip.

In the wake of the video leaking some of Thug’s biggest collaborators came to his defense. Meek Mill went online claiming that Thug had a legitimate lawsuit on his hands from the leak. Drake took to Instagram to call out the judge in the case directly for not being able to keep private matters in the case private. Why Was Gunna Mentioned During Young Thug’s Trial?

Gunna’s name was bound to come up in the racketeering trial against Young Thug eventually. After all, Gunna was signed to Young Thug’s record label, YSL (Young Stoner Life), and was indicted alongside him as a member of YSL (Young Slime Life), the alleged gang Thug is accused of leading to commit or incite dozens of violent crimes in and around the Atlanta area. Gunna has also fielded accusations of “snitching” ever since he accepted a plea deal in which he pled guilty to racketeering in exchange for time served and his eventual release.

While some fans, foes, and former friends might have expected Gunna to eventually take the stand, his name actually came up in an entirely different context during the trial as the testimony of Trontavious “Slug” Stephens — an accused co-founder of the alleged gang — continued. A prosecutor asked Slug whether Gunna is a member of a Crip gang, replying in the affirmative.

Since the prosecution’s case against YSL maintains that it’s a local offshoot of the wider Bloods organization, it seems like this line of questioning undermines the DA’s argument. If YSL were really a gang instead of just a record label, it would be unusual — to say the least — for it to also include an acknowledged member of a rival organization.

Slug’s testimony has offered a number of sound bytes so far, with mentions of LeBron James, Serena Williams, and more.

Is Gunna A Crip Gang Member? YSL Co-Defendant Claims Yes

Gunna’s been enjoying life outside the walls of his cell since December 2022, but that doesn’t mean his name is completely removed from the YSL RICO trial. Though he hasn’t been in court watching Jeffrey Williams attempt to fight the slew of charges brought against him, the Atlanta-based creative has been making his support for Young Thug felt consistently during performances. Despite his solidarity, Gunna remains on the outs with several rappers, Lil Baby among them, who’ve accused him of “snitching” on the So Much Fun artist.

In order to come home from jail, the 30-year-old took what’s known as an Alford plea. Since then, he’s been mostly focused on his music with a Gift & a Curse putting him back on the map in 2023. Now, however, Gunna is facing allegations from another YSL co-defendant – Trontavious “Slug” Stephens – who’s been on the witness stand for a minute now. According to Thugger’s business partner, his “Hot” collaborator is one of the gang members who was a part of the Young Slime Life collective. Mostly Bloods are tied to the group, however, some Crips apparently were too.

Gunna Has Ties to Crips, Trontavious “Slug” Stephens Says in Court

“Is Gunna a Crip?” one prosecutor asked Slug during his time on the stand on Monday (January 22). As per HipHopDX, the latter simply responded, “Yeah.” In the past, the embattled lyricist was denied bond due to his alleged links to Atlanta’s Shady Park Crips. “[My client] is not involved in any of the so-called Shady Park Crips matters,” his attorney declared back in 2022.

While Gunna’s name is being brought up in the Georgia courtroom full of his old friends, the “fukumean” hitmaker’s been booked and busy overseas amid Paris Fashion Week. He’s always had a love for styling himself in designer drip, but thanks to his newfound confidence, the YSL star is building relationships with brands like never before. Check out Chris Brown’s reaction to his recent performance at the link below, and tap back in with HNHH later for more music/pop culture news updates.

Chris Brown Vibes To Gunna’s Performance During Paris Fashion Week

All week celebrities from across the fashion, music, and entertainment landscape are in Paris to watch some of the biggest names in fashion debut new work. Among those in attendance was Chris Brown, who is seemingly staying busy. After videos made the rounds online of him sitting next to Quavo during a show, he responded. Brown doubled down on his beef with the former Migos rapper in an Instagram comment maligning that he doesn’t get to pick where he sits. The post reminded some fans that the beef even existed in the first place as it’s been dormant for quite a while.

Eagle-eyed fans also spotted Chris Brown and Gunna at the same show. The pair were in attendance for the AMIRI show last week. But now even more videos of the duo are popping up. A new clip being shared online is of Gunna performing his smash hit “Fukumean” for a pretty packed crowd. It’s unclear if this is at the same show or not, but Brown is once again in attendance. He isn’t just there though, he’s seemingly having a pretty good time vibing along to the performance. The pair have collaborated once before on record. Gunna turned up for a feature on Brown’s song “Heat” from his 2019 album Indigo. Check out the video of Brown at Gunna’s Paris Fashion Week performance below.

Chris Brown Enjoying Himself At Gunna Show

Gunna wasn’t the only celeb that Brown made waves for crossing paths with recently. Last week he popped up courtside at a USC basketball game alongside Saweetie. Though the team itself has underperformed this year, many were focused on other things. The rapper is fresh off a relationship with YG which was formally ended earlier this month. While Brown and Saweetie don’t have any confirmed involvement, fans nonetheless jumped to conclusions seeing the pair together so shortly after her breakup.

What do you think of Chris Brown enjoying Gunna’s performance during Paris Fashion Week? Do you hope the pair collaborate again on something soon? Let us know in the comment section below.

Gunna Puts His Charm On A Group Of Classic Video Vixens In The Video For ‘Bachelor’ With Turbo

At the top of the year, Gunna assured the world that 2024 would bring new music from the Atlanta rap star. While there’s still a little over 11 months for him to live up to that promise, the rapper continues to treat his loyal fan base. Back in November, Gunna and his longtime producer Turbo teamed up for their “Bachelor” single, and today the two delivered the music video for the track.

The new visual captures Gunna as the charming leader of a cast of ladies who are all familiar faces to the hip-hop world as they appeared in classic videos from the 2000s. KD Aubert (Fabolous’ “Into You”), Rosa Acosta (Drake’s “Best I Ever Had”), Eboni Jackson (50 Cent’s “Wanksta”), LaNisha Cole (Pharrell’s “Frontin”), Esther Baxter (Petey Pablo’s “Freek-A-Leek”), Tammy Torres (Lil Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer”), Bria Myles (Twista’s “Girl Tonite”) and Sasha Lee (David Banner’s “Play”) are all featured in the video. Gunna stands firm on his role as the leader as Turbo plays James Blake’s “Do You Ever” — the song sampled on “Bachelor” — on a grand piano. All in all, the new visual is both classy and flashy which is what we expect Gunna to be.

You can watch Gunna and Turbo’s video for “Bachelor” above.

Is Gunna Dropping New Music In 2024?

In 2023, the public counted Gunna out. Most thought he would never regain his footing in the rap game. But, boy, did the “Bread & Butter” rapper prove the naysayers wrong. After finding his footing upon his release from jail, Gunna hit the studio with a point to prove. As a result of his effort, Gunna’s highly-anticipated album, A Gift And A Curse, spawned his first solo top 10 hit (“F*kumean“) and Grammy buzz.

With such a red-hot year, fans want to know if the streak can continue. So, is Gunna planning on dropping any new music in 2024? According to a screenshot captured by HipHopDX (a fellow subsidiary of Warner Music Group), the answer is yes.

On January 5, The RapCaviar Podcast, hosted by Brandon “Jinx ” Jenkins, surveyed their Instagram followers to get a feel for their most anticipated albums for 2024, of which Gunna’s name was mentioned. Gunna hasn’t maintained a relatively low profile online since gaining his freedom, but he couldn’t help but respond to the expressed interest.

Although he didn’t provide many details, his one-word response of “soon” was enough of a validation from the overjoyed fan. Gunna joins the long line of slated rap releases, including Playboi Carti, ASAP Rocky, and Cardi B, to name a few.
