Gucci Mane
Joe Budden Questions Gucci Mane’s Artists Always Being In Trouble
There has been a string of unfortunate luck for Gucci Mane and his 1017 artists. Gucci has established himself as a Rap icon and he developed his label to help other artists get their taste of the good life. However, in recent years, there has been one headline after another about tragedies befalling his rappers. Joe Budden tackled the touchy topic on his podcast by addressing the discussions about Gucci’s purported bad luck.
“Who people are signing, how people are signing them, and why people are signing them needs to be under thorough examination from all parties involved in the music business,” Budden stated.

He also mentioned the sports world and how changes were made when a string of injuries were reported.
“Studies and new science showed the game was affecting players’ bodies differently,” burden continued. “So, they started coming up with these new theories, like shortening the season or making the playoffs shorter or whatever they was doing.”
“The same thing has happened in rap in the last decade where we have never seen this many people die. We’ve never seen this many shootings, stabbings, clique beef, arrests, RICOs. I have never seen it in Hip Hop.”
Most recently, Gucci has been at odds with the relatives of his rapper Big Scarr. It was reported the 22-year-old died of an accidental drug overdose.

In addition to Scarr’s passing, several 1017 artists have faced legal troubles. Mac Critter was recently arrested on first-degree murder charges, and Foogiano was hit with five years in prison. Pooh Shiesty received five years for a firearm charge, and Hotboy Wes was also arrested in connection to a robbery.
Budden spoke on the “death of A&R” and the “death of musicianship.”
“A whole roster that is suffering,” he said. “And I don’t think it’s coincidence anymore.” Additionally, “It don’t matter that one of them made a good song. And now, it done sold however many million or made however many millions.”
“If n*ggas don’t have the information, if n*ggas don’t really know how to move in this space… Life expectancy for rappers is short already. For me, as a rapper, it’s scary as sh*t out there right now.”

Waka Flocka’s Mother Debra Antney Says Gucci Mane Didn’t “Technically” Kill Jeezy Affiliate Pookie Loc
Debra Antney called out Gucci Mane on the Ugly Money podcast. She said he lied about shooting rapper Pookie Loc, adding, “he didn’t pull the trigger.” She also said he needs to stop talking about it. While on the Ugly Money podcast, Nicki Minaj’s former manager Debra Antney said Gucci Mane’s claims that he shot […]

Gucci Mane Lied About Killing Pookie Loc, Deb Antney Claims
Deb Antney called cap on claims that Gucci Mane killed Jeezy’s affiliate Pookie Loc during a home invasion.
During a recent interview with the Ugly Money Podcast, Deb Antney discussed Gucci Mane and Jeezy’s Verzuz battle in 2020. The showdown was one that nobody expected to take place in their lifetime but the two trap music veterans showed out to play hit after hit before performing “So Icy” together for the first time since their falling out.
Antney praised the two for joining forces for a bigger cause, though she said she didn’t like Gucci’s comments about Pookie Loc. However, Antney stated after that there isn’t any truth to Gucci Mane murdering Pookie Loc.
“It’s over with now. Technically, you really didn’t kill anybody, you know what I’m sayin’?” Antney said before describing the claims as fabricated.
“Let’s stop talking about that now because all these kids think that you’re the number one killer. And let’s not talk about it no more because now you’re a dad, you got two sons,” she continued. “Come into that and think about your kids looking at something. And these kids are looking at you a certain kind of way of something that’s fictitious. It was done for rap.”
Podcast host Ugly Money Niche looked baffled by the claim, pressing Antney further for confirmation on her claims. He asked her for a clear answer on if Gucci Mane actually murdered Pookie Loc. “No,” she said, shaking her head.
During Verzuz, Gucci Mane performed the single, “The Truth” on stage where he rapped, “Go dig your partner up, n***a, bet he can’t say shit.” Last year, Wop appeared at the 2022 REVOLT Summit where he admitted he wished he “wouldn’t have said what I said.”
“I didn’t know when I got on the stage, that was gonna happen, [that] I was gonna say that,” he added. “I ain’t like, ‘I’m bringing negative energy.’ It just really came out.”
Big Scarr’s Girlfriend Blasts Rapper’s Family for Recording Music Video at Funeral
Big Scarr’s death and funeral have had a fair share of controversies. Following arguments over Gucci Mane supporting his artist’s family monetarily, the funeral occurred, which was also the location of a music video.
Seeing the scenes unfold and the events before the funeral, Scarr’s girlfriend hit Instagram and wrote a note about how she felt regarding everything.
“Y’all really FAILED Alex as a family & friends. Y’all aired ALL his personal business out, from the preparation to the funeral till afterwards. WTF happened to privacy?? Flexing in his jewelry like it’s yours.
PUT HIS SHIT UP! He not here to put it on you so don’t wear his shit. EMBARRASSING as hell. It’s only one BIG SCARR he can never be duplicated! Can’t even grieve in peace! Too much clout chasing going on! Shit disgusting!”
Alexander “Big Scarr” Woods, a signee of 1017, died from an unintentional prescription drug overdose in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, three days before Christmas 2022. He was just 22 years old.
Nearly a month after Scarr passed away, his family and longtime partner Quezz Ruthless said that Gucci had refused to cover the cost of the artist’s funeral. Keyshia Ka’Oir, Gucci’s wife, responded to the family and provided them with receipts to support her claims that Gucci had paid for the funeral home and even sent flowers, but that the family had not expressed gratitude or appreciation.
In a video, Quezz stated, “You say to them you finna pay for the funeral, then you lie. You didn’t have to lie! You ain’t have to go ghost either, cuh. It was gonna get paid for either way. You could’ve just said you ain’t have the money. You don’t get no type of respect for that, cuh. When they texted you and asked you about Scarr’s funeral, cuh, you told them folks that Keyshia’s birthday coming up. Man, y’all rich! Y’all can celebrate her birthday any day. Come on now, cuh.”
The recipes from Ka’Oir are below.

Big Scarr’s Girlfriend Calls Out His Family For Allegedly Shooting Music Video At Funeral
It’s only been a few weeks since Big Scarr tragically passed away at just 22 years old. According to reports from his family, the 1017 rapper died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
Unfortunately, the weeks following his death have been messy. It all began when the late artist’s siblings publicly called out his label boss, Gucci Mane, for ghosting the family. This is allegedly after he offered to cover the costs of the funeral soon after his passing.
Now, the late rapper’s girlfriend is joining in to call out his family for their mishandling of his passing. Additionally, she goes on to accuse them of shooting a music video at the funeral service.
“Y’all really FAILED Alex as family & friends. Y’all aired ALL his personal business out, from the preparation to the funeral till afterwards. Wtf happened to privacy?? Flexing in his jewelry like it’s yours. PUT HIS SH*T UP! He not here to put it on you so don’t wear that sh*t. EMBARRASSING as hell,” she writes in the lengthy Instagram post on Monday (January 9).
“It’s only one BIG SCARR he can never be duplicated! Can’t even grieve in peace! Too much clout chasing going on! Sh*t disgusting!” she continues afterwards.
Furthermore, the family also accuses the “Wake Up in the Sky” rapper of asking for Scarr’s 1017 chains back.
However, Gucci’s wife, Keysha Ka’oir took to her Instagram account to defend her and her man. In the post, she subsequently shares a photo of a receipt from a funeral home for $10,000. “PAYMENT DIRECTLY TO FUNERAL HOME! Leave my husband alone!” she writes. “We also sent FLOWERS & not even a THANK U,” she says in a separate post to her Instagram Story.
Scarr’s sister, Alexandra Woods, says that they did receive the $10,000 payment. However, she says it’s not enough. “That’s why we said he didn’t help.. That wasn’t enough. My brother funeral was 60K in all,” she allegedly says in an Instagram Live.
The “Havin Fun” rapper’s father has since spoken out, defending Gucci Mane amid all of the drama. “Certain things were said that shouldn’t have been said. It was wrong. Man-to-man, I wish someone would’ve just dialed my number and talked to your guy, 100. All this out of control. Gucci and them the best thing to ever happen to my son,” he says explicitly in an Instagram post.
Scarr dropped his debut album, Big Grim Reaper, in April of 2021 and was a prominent member of Gucci’s label, 1017 Records. Rest in peace Big Scarr.

Gucci Mane & Kodak Black Tease New Music Together
Gucci Mane and Kodak Black are two artists who never fail to keep their fans fed with new music.
Lately, Gucci has been shifting his focus to promoting the artists signed to his label. Kodak, on the other hand, was busy flooding the streets with plenty of his own solo music last year.
However, it now appears as though the duo is gearing up to drop a brand new track together on Friday (January 10). “Guwop and Zuwop dropping another classic Friday @KodakBlack1k,” writes the 42-year-old in a tweet. The accompanying video shows the “ZEZE” rapper vibing to the song.
The Mr. Davis rapper did drop three albums last year. However, they all serve as compilation tapes with artists on his label, 1017 Records. The most recent of which is December’s monstrous So Icy Boyz: The Finale, which contains four discs and 80 songs featuring the likes of BIG30, Sett, the late Big Scarr and others.
Kodak dropped two full-length releases last year, Back For Everything and Kutthroat Bill: Vol. 1. The former features his most recent hit, “Super Gremlin.” Additionally, the Florida native makes a couple of appearances on Kendrick‘s latest offering, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
The forthcoming song will serve as the duo’s sixth time officially appearing on the same track together. The first of which is on “Vibin In This Bih,” which is off of Kodak’s 2016 project, Lil Big Pac. They also both make an appearance on a DJ Khaled song from 2017, “Pull a Caper,” alongside Rick Ross. Most famously though, the two collaborated on the Atlanta native’s 2018 smash hit, “Wake Up in the Sky” with Bruno Mars.
Look out for the new track to arrive on streaming services on Friday. Other artists expected to drop this week include BabyTron and 21 Lil Harold.

Big Scarr’s Father Defends Gucci Mane & Atlantic Records Amid Family Drama
Big Scarr’s father condoned recent comments made by the rapper’s family and friends.
In the past two days, a dispute between Big Scarr’s label and his family spilled out into the public eye. Scarr’s sister and friend alleged that Gucci Mane didn’t aid with funeral expenses, despite promising to do so. His sister also claimed Wop asked for Scarr’s 1017 chains back.
However, Wop’s wife, Keyshia Ka’oir revealed Gucci paid $10,000 directly to the funeral home and pulled out receipts to corroborate the claims. Then, she revealed the flowers that were sent for the funeral after Scarr’s sister claimed they never received the flowers.
Finally, Big Scarr’s father chimed in on the matter surrounding his son’s death and the label he was signed to. Unlike Scarr’s sister, his father had nothing but great things to say about Gucci Mane and Atlantic Records. He put an end to the argument, confirming Keyshia Ka’oir’s claim that Wop already put down $10K while Atlantic Records also offered another $10K.
Firstly, Scarr’s father thanked Atlantic Records and Gucci Mane for giving his son a major opportunity in the music industry. Then, he clarified that he never allowed anyone to speak out surrounding Scarr’s funeral.
“I can’t let y’all throw dude under the bus like that. C’mon now, the truth is the truth, man,” he said. “I gave nobody permission to do that.”
He also confirmed that he covered the rest of the funeral costs after receiving $20K from Wop and Atlantic Records. “I covered the rest. I appreciate that, big time. Certain things were said that shouldn’t have been said. It was wrong. Man-to-man, I wish someone would’ve just dialed my number and talked to your guy, 100,” he continued. “All this out of control. Gucci and them the best thing to ever happen to my son.”
Later on, an Instagram page that appeared to belong to Big Scarr’s girlfriend condemned the family drama spilling out onto Instagram. The post criticizes those closest to Scarr for airing out his personal business and violating his privacy after his passing.
“Y’all really FAILED Alex as family & friends. Y’all aired ALL his personal business out, from the preparation to the funeral till afterwards,” she wrote. “Wtf happened to privacy? Flexing in his jewelry like it’s yours. PUT HIS SHIT UP! He not here to put it on you so don’t wear his shit.”

Gucci Mane’s Wife Keyshia Ka’oir Provided Receipts Of His Contribution To Late Artist Big Scarr’s Funeral
When it rains, it pours. Rapper Gucci Mane knows this, unfortunately, all too well. After his label’s 1017 Records, rising act Pooh Shiesty was sent to prison in April 2022, Bigg Scarr, another artist on his roster, unexpectedly passed away days before Christmas. As the Atlanta musician attempts to pick up the remaining pieces of his label, he has announced his upcoming So Icy Boyz: The Finale album. Unfortunately, his attention has been shifted elsewhere instead of focusing on the project.
The “So Icy” rapper has found himself amid a feud with his late artist’s siblings. Initially, Quezz Ruthless, Scarr’s younger brother, took to Instagram to share that despite Gucci’s promise to pay for the funeral arrangement, the family hasn’t received any assistance. In an Instagram live broadcast, Quezz said, “You said to [the family] you was finna pay for the funeral, then you lied,” later adding, “You didn’t have to lie! You ain’t have to go ghost, either. It was gonna get paid for either way. You could’ve just said you ain’t have the money. You don’t get no type of respect for that.”
Quezz alleged Gucci requested that Scarr’s 1017 chains be returned, to which he replied, “You not getting them chains. You ain’t even text and check on the family, but you text about some chains. I can’t believe you.”

Alexandra Woods, Big Scarr’s sister, seconded her brother’s claims on social media, saying, “Yes [Gucci] asked for the chains back, and no, he not getting them back!”

Gucci Mane’s wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, took to her Instagram stories to upload a picture of a receipt for a payment to N.J. Ford & Sons Funeral in Memphis, Tennessee. In the post’s caption, Ka’oir wrote, “Payment directly to funeral home. Leave my husband alone.”
Woods later confirmed Ka’oir was telling the truth. Still, their contributions did not cover the entire funeral service. Stating in an Instagram live, “Yeah, Gucci sent $10,000, and somebody else had another $10,000. So it was $20,000 in all. We ain’t get the flowers. I don’t give a f*ck what nobody says. Like I said, Gucci ain’t help with sh*t.”
Gucci Mane is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
