French rap is a rich genre woven with influences from around the globe. Over the years, artists within this scene have made notable waves. However, much of their success has been in French-speaking countries, and the genre remains an untapped market globally. Nonetheless, there might be a new musical wave around the world that accommodates French rap at the forefront. 

Recently, Quavo jumped on a song with French rapper Bu$hi, and many more of such collaborations may be on the way. With raw storytelling and innovative production, French rappers are redefining the genre and demanding attention on the global stage. Here’s a list of five French rap stars to keep an eye out for.

Yamê

When Yamê released the COLORS version of his single “Bécane” on June 1, 2023, he took the world by surprise. The French-Cameroonian rapper is relatively new to the scene and released his debut mixtape, Bantu Mixtape Vol. 1 in 2020. However, he’s no musical novice, and his big break was inevitable. That breakthrough came with “Bécane,” which he quickly followed with his debut album ELOWI (2023). Since his 2020 debut, the rapper has released several singles, as well as a second mixtape. You should definitely check out his growing catalog.

Niska 

With five studio albums to his name, Niska is certainly not a newcomer in the French rap scene. He debuted in 2015 with Charo Life, and since then, has made a name for himself. His discography is filled with many hit songs, including “Médicament” and “Du lundi au lundi.” However, his biggest song to date is the SNEP Diamond-certified single, “Réseaux” (2017).

Bu$hi

On December 13, 2017, Bu$hi released “La la,” a collaborative single with fellow French rap artist Jorrdee. Since then, he has released many more singles, both solo and with features. Additionally, the rapper has dropped four impressive solo studio albums: Bushi (2020), Bushi 1.5 (2020), Bushi Tape 2 (2022), and Interlude (2022). As aforementioned, his most recent offering is a collab with Quavo, who recently appeared on Kanye’s Vultures 1, titled “What We Doing!? / Qu’est-ce qu’on fait!?” Bu$hi is a fast-rising act in French rap right now, and you should definitely look out for him. 

Kalash Criminel 

This balaclava-wearing French-Congolese rapper broke into the scene with R.A.S in 2016. The album contains “Arrêt du cœur,” the standout track that launched his career. Despite the passage of time, the song continues to contribute to his success. Kalash Criminel is one of the most exciting acts in French rap right now. Altogether, he has released four solo studio albums so far, and is primed to take over the world. 

Maes

Maes is a 29-year-old French rapper of Moroccan origin. In 2017, he introduced himself to fans of French rap with his debut mixtape, Réelle Vie. Since then, he has released two more volumes of Reélle Vie (2.0 and 3.0), and many singles. In addition, the rapper has three albums to his name, including Pure (2018), Les derniers salopards (2020), and Omerta (2023). Some of his standout tracks are “Madrina” ft. Booba, “Fetty Wap,” and “Galactic.”

Hosts For 2030 & 2034 Winter Olympics Revealed

The French Alps and Salt Lake City are the “preferred hosts” for the 2030 and 2034 Winter Olympics respectively. The two sites are the first Winter Olympics to be selected under the IOC’s new selection framework. Under these new criteria, the IOC can forgo the traditional multi-bid format and instead engage in “targeted discussions” with preferential hosts. According to a press release by the IOC, the hope is to formalize the two bids at the 142nd IOC session in Paris next July.

Furthermore, the choices mean that five of the next six Olympiads are scheduled to take place in either Europe or the United States. Paris will host the 2024 Summer Olympics, while a trio of Italy cities will host the 2026 Winter Olympics. Furthermore, Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Olympics. The only non-Western Hemisphere Games currently on the books will be the 2032 Summer Olympics. That event is scheduled to be hosted in Brisbane, Australia. Both of the previous Olympiads were hosted in Asia. Tokyo hosted the 2020 Summer Olympics while Beijing hosted the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Michelle Yeoh Joins IOC

It’s been a big year for the IOC, as the organization ramps up toward the Paris Games next summer. However, they also made a star-studded addition to their ranks. Back in September, Michelle Yeoh was one of five people nominated for an IOC membership. These candidates bring added value to the work of the IOC because of their experience and diverse expertise in different walks of life. What they all have in common is their love of sport and their strong belief in the Olympic values and what the IOC stands for,” IOC President Thomas Bach said in a statement. Michelle is a martial arts film legend. However, she earned her Western breakout role in the James Bond film, Tomorrow Never Dies. She became the first openly Asian actress to win an Oscar earlier this year for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Per ESPN, “The IOC currently has 99 invited members. These include a selection of royalty, sports officials, former athletes and leaders from politics and industry. Their main role in the Olympic movement is confirming hosts for the Summer and Winter Games that were selected by the IOC administration and executive board.” The other candidates nominated alongside Yeoh are Israeli judo medalist Yael Arad, Hungarian businessman Fürjes Balázs, Peruvian volleyball medallist and politician Cecilia Roxana Tait Villacorta, and German businessman Michael Mronz.

21 Savage Enjoys Paris After Getting His Green Card

21 Savage has had a solid last 12 months. Around this time last year, the artist dropped Her Loss with Drake. Furthermore, he ended up going on tour with Drake all throughout the United States and Canada. However, he couldn’t actually go to Canada until the very last shows in Toronto. Of course, this is because 21 wasn’t considered an official United States citizen. His travel rights were diminished, and it was making things hard for him. That said, with a little help from Drake, 21 eventually got the green light to travel to Canada.

He now has a green card which means he can go wherever he wants. As we reported a while back, 21 was going to go on a mini tour of Europe. This would lead him to shows in France, the Netherlands, and even the UK. Overall, it is a homecoming of sorts for 21, who was born in England. Fans in Europe have been very excited about this as for many, it will be their first time seeing the rapper perform. Now, 21 has officially made the trip to Europe, and he seems to be having a good time.

21 Savage Heads To Europe

In the videos and images above, 21 Savage can be seen standing outside of the Eifel Tower with a huge duffle bag. He was standing around tourists who were there for the exact same reasons as him. Ultimately, it was cool to see 21 enjoying himself given the circumstances. Some of us take traveling for granted. However, for 21, this is a whole new experience that he will surely never forget. Hopefully, the country is treating him well while he’s out there.

Quavo Enjoys Luxurious “$100K Glizzy” In France

During a recent visit to France, Quavo enjoyed quite a luxurious dining experience, sampling what he calls a “$100K glizzy.” In a new clip, the Georgia-born rapper shared with his Instagram followers, he’s seen biting into the pricey hot dog. It was topped with some shimmering gold flakes, which were likely behind the hot dog’s hefty price tag. It also appeared to be complimented by a few more conventional condiments, like ketchup. From the looks of things, Quavo was pleasantly surprised by the elevated dish, nodding his head in approval after his first bite.

Though he didn’t specify which restaurant in particular he enjoyed the opulent glizzy at, he did go on to share a few more clips from his visit. In one of the clips, he’s seen gracing one of the establishment’s glass windows with his autograph, as it appears many others had done before him. In another clip, followers are given a close-up look at the touching message he left, which reads “long live Takeoff.” It’s clear that he continues to honor his fallen collaborator and nephew wherever he goes. Fans in his comments section love to see it.

Quavo Chows Down On A Premium Hot Dog

Quavo’s still hot off the success of his most recent release, Rocket Power, which he delivered to fans in August. Listeners had been anticipating the performer’s second solo offering for some time, and certainly were not disappointed. The LP pays tribute to Quavo’s late Migos groupmate, Takeoff, who passed away in 2022. It features the last collaboration the two of them ever recorded together, and depicts his grieving process with songs like “Hold Me,” “Rocket Power,” and more.

Rudy Gobert has never made a three-pointer in his professional career. Granted, he has only ever attempted 15 such shots in his 10-year NBA career. But he is still 0-for-15 on such shooting. However, that all changed earlier this week. Gobert is currently with the French National Team preparing for the FIBA World Cup. France’s games will take place at the Indonesia Arena in Jakarta. They share a group with Canada, Latvia, and Lebanon.

During a warm-up exhibition game, Gobert scored from downtown. It was a fairly simple lob from the top of the arc but good for him. The crowd went wild and rightly so, it’s a big moment to see someone’s first-ever competitive three-pointer. Then Gobert went and made it really weird.

That’s a really weird thing to say. Within hours, it had been turned into a quote meme that we’ll definitely see used throughout the NBA season. Well, congratulations to Rudy on his three-point deflowering…and also congratulations on the meme. France has finished third in back-to-back World Cups. While their squad also has NBA veteran Evan Fournier on the roster, they will also be without young superstar Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama, who was taken first-overall in the recent NBA Draft, stated that he would miss the World Cup to focus on his rookie NBA season.

Wembanyama has also had to address comments about being underweight for the NBA. “People are wrong. We’re not focused at all on weights. I don’t want to put weight on his body. We’re going to fight to not put weight on his body. Weight on his body [is] a big mistake. We focus on strength, core. We were very pleased that he linked up [with Kareem Abdul-] Jabbar who played until [41] years old. I’m very glad they, they connected because [they] have a similar body type. Kareem was not heavy. A new clip shows Cardi walking to her car surrounded by paparazzi, taking the opportunity to compare French paparazzi to American paparazzi. She ranted about American photographers seeking unflattering images of celebs in order to pick them apart, claiming that the French don’t do that.

“You guys are the best,” she’s heard telling the photographers. “I really love the paparazzi out here because let me tell you about the f*ckin’ American paparazzi… When you guys put [up] pictures of celebrities, you guys make sure that they look nice. You guys make sure that they take good pictures. I don’t know why American paparazzi, they will really post a picture of you looking like this [Makes a face]. That’s f***ed up. The “WAP” rapper attended the Balenciaga PFW show with Offset amid some recent public relationship drama. Offset took to social media to accuse the mother of two of his children of cheating on him, and she later clapped back. She insisted that she didn’t cheat on Offset, claiming that due to her celebrity status, it would be difficult for her to be unfaithful. “That motherf*cker spiraling and thinking sh*t,” she explained, “I’m just not anybody.”

She continued, “I can’t [be] f***in no regular degular shmegular because they gon tell the world. Protests Continue Across France Over Murdered Teen

President Emmanuel Macron has canceled a state visit to Germany as protests continue across France. The protests are in response to the killing of Nahel M., a 17-year-old delivery driver. Nahel was shot and killed by police in Nanterre, a suburb 6.8 miles northwest of the center of Paris. While police claim the officers responded with deadly force due to a direct threat to their lives, this has been disputed. Lawyers for the family of Nahel released a video showing officers firing at Nael’s car as it drove away after a traffic stop. The officer deemed to have fired the fatal shot has been detained on a manslaughter charge.

Just the latest in a series of increasingly common police killings in France, thousands have taken to the streets across the country. It’s the second major civil action undertaken by the nation’s citizens this year. Starting in January, thousands have engaged in a work stoppage and protest action over changes to the country’s pension scheme. However, the protests of the killing of Nahel have drawn comparisons to similar protests in 2005. That action was undertaken after two teenagers were electrocuted to death while hiding from police in a power substation.

Macron, France’s increasingly embattled President, chose not to go through with a trip to Germany as the protests entered their fifth day. It would have been the first state visit to Germany by a French President in 23 years. Per the Ministry of the Interior, over 2400 people have been arrested during the protests. 1311 of these individuals were arrested on Friday night alone, with Macron urging parents to keep their children at home.

Meanwhile, Nahel was laid to rest in a hilltop cemetery in Nanterre. With the media kept out, hundreds lined the streets to pay their respects. After prayers were held at a local mosque, someone attempt to enforce androcentric Muslim funeral traditions at the gates of the ceremony. However, Nahel’s mother defied him, earning a round of applause from onlookers. Meanwhile, the protests continue to spread. In French Guinea, protests turned violent after a 54-year-old was killed by a stray bullet. Meanwhile, prosecutors begin to build a case against the accused police officer. Their lifestyles certainly have them used to luxury. Nevertheless, a sneakily captured photo of Beyonce and Jay-Z at lunch in France earlier this week proves that they know how to enjoy the simple things in life too. “Not Bey playing Uno with [Hov] today, they’re just like us I’m crying 😭😭😭,” one Twitter user wrote while sharing the image of the “Irreplaceable” singer holding a small collection of colourful cards in her hand.

As Daily Mail reports, the couple was dining at the world-famous la Colombe d’Or in Saint-Paul-de-Vence this week. Queen B looked ready to take on the stage in an elegant white dress complete with feather and sheer detailing. She combined the gown with chunky sunglasses and a black and white purse, waving and smiling at cameras on her way into the restaurant.

Jay-Z appeared to be in total vacation mode, wearing a printed button-up shirt with green leaves and golden keys displayed across it. He kept it casual in a pair of cargo shorts, adding a simple watch, sunglasses, and a silk scarf tied around his hair. Aside from the paparazzi images that have been captured, the mother of three also shared some heartwarming snaps in a photo dump, giving us some insight into how playful she and the New Yorker are together, even after all these years.

Travis Scott Shoots Music Video At Nice Stadium In France: Watch

It’s been a long time in the making, but Travis Scott’s UTOPIA is finally seeing the light of day. The Houston native began teasing his follow-up to Astroworld in 2021. Unfortunately, the tragedy that unfolded at his annual festival that year catapulted him out of the spotlight for some time. Scott has since been able to successfully rehabilitate his image, going on to play substantial stadium shows and headline at Rolling Loud Thailand.

More recently, the father of two’s efforts appears to be laser-focused on UTOPIA. He’s taking no shortage of measures to protect and promote his album. He was spotted at Cannes Film Festival last week, where his luggage made headlines along with an identical one carried by The Weeknd. Scott has yet to confirm a tracklist or any features on the project. Still, seeing as he and the Canadian have collaborated before, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear his vocals shine alongside the Rodeo rapper’s when the album finally drops.

Travis Scott Spotted Filming Something in France

Travis was also shooting some footage for what appears to be a music video while in Europe. He and his crew hit up Nice Stadium for a busy day of filming. A few small clips were captured by bystanders and shared on social media. In one, Scott calmly sits on top of a car, several motorbikes revving their engines in front of him. It remains unclear what song the visual is set to accompany, but the 31-year-old’s fans are excited to see what he’s got in store regardless.

The “CAN’T SAY” artist recently explained to fans what the title of his project means to him. “Utopia is something that people feel is so far-fetched and out of reach, some perfect state of mind,” he told Pin-Up Magazine last week. “But you create it yourself. There are people who achieve utopia every day.
