Doja Cat Asked Her ‘Scarlet’ Alter Ego To ‘Sh*t On My Face’ And Shouted Out Satan In Her New Spoof Interview

Doja Cat’s Scarlet Tour left Uproxx’s Aaron Williams impressed with how Doja confronted “both the haters and the unhinged alter ego” named after her defiant Scarlet album. This morning (November 13), Doja Cat left nothing to the imagination when she dropped a six-minute spoof interview, which she teased over the weekend.

It starts with Doja Cat arriving on the set of a fake late-night television show hosted by her Scarlet alter ego. Within 45 seconds, Doja jokes to Scarlet, “I want you to sh*t on my face. I know that for a fact.” Somehow, it progressively gets even more unhinged.

Doja Cat discusses shaving her eyebrows and head, but clarifies, “I don’t shave my vagina.” Next up? The controversy surrounding Doja Cat losing “a little over a million followers” across social media, which Doja Cat blames on posting “a picture of Whoopi Goldberg’s nipples on Instagram.” That leads to a question about “what type of perks come with being in The Illuminati.”

Doja doesn’t flinch, saying, “Uh, free applesauce [and] chicken wings, but I haven’t seen any lizard guys in suits. […] I want to do goat sacrifices because that’s actually pretty spooky. Also, I’d love to give a shoutout to Satan.” Naturally, Scarlet asks whether Doja Cat ever indulges in worshipping Satan. After a quick belch, Doja says, “All the time. I give my demons free cheese.”

And we’re not even halfway home, guys. The second half of the spoof includes seemingly serious commentary from Doja Cat on how she’s evolved in her writing, but just when you think she’s being serious, she lets out a huge fart after saying, “I can express myself as me, and I have never been so comfortable.”

Watch it all above.

Doja Cat Interviews Herself In A Hilarious New Video

Doja Cat has often spoken fondly about the internet and growing up online. Earlier this year she stopped by Hot Ones to discuss a myriad of topics. Among them was her own internet addiction. She discussed many of the “YouTube rabbit holes” she’s fallen in while browsing the platform. Now, she’s taking much of the surreal content she’s seen and channeling it into a new video.

In the interview, Doja herself is interviewed by herself. Well, it isn’t exactly herself, but her Scarlet character from her new album era. As the title of the video reads, Doja is there to answer some “hard-hitting” questions but all is not exactly as it seems. The video has a distinctive editing style that Doja has spoken fondly of in the past. It’s technically a “YTB” a genre of video where fans online take interview clips and edit them in surreal and comedic ways. The only difference is that it seems like Doja made the new video with that format in mind and leaned into the potential of the editing techniques. Check out the full hilarious video below.

Doja Cat Shares New Parody Interview

In the comments, fans seem to find the video just as funny as Doja herself. “Seeing scarlet wearing regular clothes still covered in blood is comedy gold,” one of the top comments on the video reads. “This whole thing is hilarious. i wish she could turn this into a show cause she said she’d love to have one someday,” another agrees.

Doja Cat is currently out on tour alongside Doechii in promotion of her new album Scarlet. The pair have only been touring for a few weeks but they’re already making waves with almost every show. Sometimes that’s with new material and other times viral moments like Doja’s mic cutting out mid-song. What do you think of Doja Cat interviewing herself in the surreal new video? Let us know in the comment section below.

Doja Cat Has A Puzzling Message For Her Fans: “Me Is Me”

Ever since we got around the rollout of Doja Cat’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, she really changed in a lot of ways. Over the months leading up to the release, her posts on social media were setting her fanbase ablaze. What really set things off was an interaction on Twitter between her and a fan asking the rapper to say she loves her fans. Doja essentially replied she cannot do that because she does not really know them like that. While she does have a point, it still got her fans hot. But, if you have not been paying attention, she could not care less about how they feel.

While it was pretty much expected that the California artist was going to address all of this on Scarlet, it was still executed very well. Especially after the singles “Attention” and “Paint The Town Red,” respectively, she did it in a way that was tasteful. Even after the release, Doja is not backing down from this new outlook on her life and her career. On Sunday, November 12, she announced that she had a big message coming today. Some were upset about the teaser leading up to it, saying she was putting on blackface in the interview with herself.

A post shared by Doja Cat (@dojacat)

It sort of turned out to be a ruse. Doja hopped on her Instagram to leave a confusing and vague message for her followers. What we could decipher from all of the “Me’s” is that she is going to continue to be herself no matter what. People can decide for themselves if they want to embrace it and continue to follow her. If they do not feel like it, then she will not be bothered in the slightest. One commenter has the same take as us, saying, “Ok so guys, I think she’s saying she’s gonna be her for a minute.” Some also had some funny reactions. One goes, “Me when I smoke weed and try to tell a story.”

What are your initial thoughts on Doja Cat’s vague message to her fans on Instagram? What did you decode from the video she provided? Are you still rocking with her new style and behavior? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Doja Cat Pokes At Her Fan-Hating Controversy In A New Late-Night-Inspired Skit For Something ‘Out Monday’

Doja Cat‘s fans are currently spiraling after the singer posted a cryptic video to her Instagram, with nothing but the caption “Out Monday.” The clip finds Doja (as her red-painted Scarlet altar-ego) interviewing the seemingly regular Doja, mirroring the style of a late-night television show.

“This might be a silly question,” Doja asks herself from the hosting desk in the skit. “Do you appreciate the people and the fans who support your music?”

The video then cuts to Doja dressed up, as she sits on the stage. A thought bubble version of herself appears right above. “I hate my fans,” she says, speaking from her inner thoughts. “My fans are dumb.” Instead of saying that out loud, she just answers, “Yeah,” as the audience cheers.

It is playing off Doja’s recent headline-making moment after she criticized her fanbase on social media — which sparked questions of whether she genuinely thought it or was leaning into some sort of persona for her recently released album, Scarlet.

While it’s still unclear exactly what this teaser is for, Doja’s fans seem to believe that it’s likely for a new music video. Some have speculated possibly for “F*ck The Girls (FTG),” “Shutcho,” or something else entirely.

Check out Doja’s video above.

Doja Cat Doubled Down On Her ‘Cash Grab’ Comments While Performing ‘Say So’ During A Recent ‘The Scarlet Tour’ Stop

Despite the massive social media purging Doja Cat faced online, the “Attention” rapper’s career continues to thrive. Yesterday (November 10), Doja received multiple Grammy nominations (Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Pop Solo Performance). Her Scarlet album has staying power on the music charts. Plus, her supporting tour with Ice Spice and Doechii is receiving rave reviews, including from Uproxx’s own Aaron Williams.

You were wrong if you thought Doja would walk back any of her past remarks. Yesterday, during The Scarlet Tour’s stop in Denver, Colorado, she doubled down on one. “C’mon cash grab,” yelled Doja to the Ball Arena crowd as they sang along to her song “Say So.”

In a series of now-deleted posts shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) page in May, Doja confessed that she wasn’t proud of some of her past bodies of work. “‘Planet Her’ and ‘Hot Pink’ were cash-grabs, and y’all fell for it. Now, I can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while y’all weep for mediocre pop,” penned the rapper.

Although those projects led her to achieve superstar status and a Grammy Award, Doja promised to stay away from pop and focus on showcasing her rap abilities. Initial supporters weren’t pleased by her statements, but ultimately it paid off.

SZA Attends Doja Cat Tour Show As She’s Confirmed To Headline Numerous Lollapalooza Fests

SZA has been on her SOS tour for much of this year. She’s made headlines numerous times for artists she’s had on stage with her and those that have attended. But now she’s found the time to pop up at somebody else’s show, Doja Cat. The pair have worked together before, teaming up for the 2021 hit “Kiss Me More.” Doja’s Scarlet tour took off late last month and sees her and opening act Doechii playing some of their biggest hits and fan favorites. Check out the videos of SZA dancing at the concert below.

SZA herself isn’t done playing big shows either. Lollapalooza just announced a number of the headliners for their international festivals and her name popped up multiple times. She will be playing Lollapalooza festivals in Brasil, Argentina, and Chile next year. Alongside the R&B hitmaker other artists like Blink-182, Sam Smith, and Paramore were also tapped as headliners. South American fans who haven’t gotten the chance to see SZA perform yet will get the chance next year.

SZA Dances To Doja Cat Show

SZA’s massive 2023 has continued to generate critical attention for her. Just this week Variety named her their 2023 Hitmaker of the year. She was the first artist to appear at the number one spot on the Hot 100 twice this year. The first time she did so with “Kill Bill” the week she dropped a remix of the track with Doja Cat. The second time was her Drake collaboration “Slime You Out” which debuted at the number one spot.

She’s also developed quite a strong friendship with Sexyy Red. The pair both appear on another song from Drake’s new album called “Rich Baby Daddy.” They’ve linked up to perform the song together live multiple times. Subsequently, SZA was even a part of Sexyy Red’s pregnancy announcement with a pic of the pair together making its way to Instagram. Doja Cat Is Ready To Silence The Haters

There were plenty of narratives swirling around Doja Cat heading into the launch of her Scarlet Tour. Questions surrounded the size of the venues on the tour, her first honest-to-goodness tour since falling into her glittering success era in the middle of a global pandemic; whether she’s been going through some kind of breakdown after shaving her head and seemingly going on a year-long crusade against her most devoted fans; whether or not she’s a “real” rapper.

It’s a shame the people propagating such narratives probably weren’t in attendance at Staples Center in Los Angeles Thursday night (alright, fine… Crypto.com Arena. UGH). Not only did the Los Angeles native handily address each of those narratives but she and her opener Doechii also batted down a few of those that have been bandied about concerning the state of so-called “female rap” (gross) for the past few years (and especially the past few days).

With much of Doja’s success coming during the live music shutdown of 2020 and her opening slot on The Weeknd’s recent stadium tour nixed after surgery, there were observers — loud ones — who thought that Doja wasn’t “ready” for arenas, or that she wouldn’t be able to sell out an arena tour, especially after pissing off “core” fans by insulting “stupid” stan account admins who clung to their parasocial connection like a life raft in a hurricane at sea.

Well, consider that myth busted; it’s fitting that Doja’s hometown show brought all the drama to Tinseltown — and none of the gimmicks that far too many other acts half of her stature have resorted to for attention. Born and bred on the internet, Doja’s well-versed in the online chatter about her, and systematically dismantles every complaint in her Scarlet Tour set, which is presented in five acts and finds her confronting both the haters and the unhinged alter ego her latest album is titled after.

Accusations of Satanism are skewered by a churchy staging of “Shutcho,” while Doja assumes a classic Jesus pose during “Attention” that irreverently takes the piss out of worrywarts who read malintent into something as commonplace as a bat tattoo. She subtly knocks down criticisms of her struggle with her biracial origins (her mom’s white, her dad’s South African) with an African traditional dance to open “Woman.”

Then she adds Brazilian bossa inflections to her biggest hit, “Say So.” This is telling. She’s previously reinterpreted the disco-pop hit as a rollicking rock anthem and alien EDM dance floor bop, saying she got sick of performing the song the same way over and over during the pandemic. By infusing it with diasporic influences, she revels in her heritage, recapturing a part of herself so many seem so eager to snatch away.

She proves her rap chops again and again throughout the night, but also her singing. The Badu impression on “Often” reaches fully-fledged neo-soul vocalist dimensions on her Hiatus Kaiyote cover “Red Room.” And I shouldn’t need to point out that her stagecraft at this point is beyond even some of her predecessors.

On Thursday, the native Angeleno even incorporated a Staples tradition, the in-game kiss cam, imbued with her own meme culture-obsessed humor, and handled an unplanned mic malfunction with her signature humor, pulling a face I really wish I’d gotten a photo of. And you want to talk props? How about a massive robotic spider, like something out of The Matrix, hovering over her head, or being flanked by a giant walking eyeball during “Paint The Town Red,” complete with attached optic nerve?

More than anything else, it looks like the narrative she is most interested in debunking is one she has maybe fed into a bit herself. On stage Thursday night, she looked like she was actually having fun performing… Check that. She looked like she was having the time of her life, like all the effort and time and money she’s put into this thing was actually worth it for the 90 minutes she spent up there captivating and communing with her audience — the “real” fans.

The ones who bought tickets, who overlooked or ignored the narratives, who put the music first, the way she does, the way she always has. She put on a show, not just for them and not just for Doja Cat, but also for Amala, the girl who loved music so much she made it her life against all odds (and sometimes her better judgment). She made Amala proud.

Doja Cat And Doechii Teased An Upcoming Collaboration At ‘The Scarlet Tour’

Doja Cat and Doechii have embarked on The Scarlet Tour promoting Doja’s new album Scarlet, kicking off the tour in San Francisco on Halloween and continuing to Los Angeles tomorrow night. In addition to showing fans the setlists they’ll be playing for the next month and a half, they also previewed an upcoming collaboration on night one. The massive screens onstage played what appears to be a snippet of a music video for the song, with Doechii and Doja cruising in a convertible in a clear visual homage to Thelma & Louise.

It’s a fitting reference for the duo, who are both individually known for breaking rules and upsetting the status quo like the 1991 classic’s titular heroines, who break away from their dull, depressing daily existences for a road trip that gets them not only out of their ruts but into a whole heap of life-changing trouble.

According to some social media users, Doechii previously teased the track during her Coachella debut earlier this year, although it wasn’t the only song she previewed for fans during her set. It’s apparently called “Shots” and while they did not yet allude to a release date, one imagines that it can’t be all that far off.

You can follow Uproxx’s coverage of The Scarlet Tour, including setlists and helpful information, here.
