DL Hughley Thinks That Jay-Z Allegations Should’ve Been Expected Amid Diddy Drama

The explosive allegations against Jay-Z lit a fire under hip-hop culture that hadn’t been felt since… Well, Diddy faced his initial onslaught of lawsuits and accusations a year ago. For those unaware, a Jane Doe accused both men of sexually assaulting her at a VMAs after party in 2000 when she was 13 years old. But DL Hughley doesn’t seem to be as shocked as everyone else is, although it might not be for the reasons you expect. The comedian recently stopped by VladTV with DJ Vlad for an interview, and naturally, they eventually addressed the topic with some strong reflections.

“But, to be honest,” DL Hughley’s remarks on the Jay-Z and Diddy allegations began. “Nobody believed that this wouldn’t touch a lot of very famous people, right? This whole milieu we find ourselves in, [that it] wouldn’t touch a lot of famous people. And all I can say when I saw it is, I didn’t go to none of those parties. No. It never appealed to me. I’m not saying that everybody who did go was wrong. But I’m glad I ain’t got a lawyer asking me to get my story together.”

DL Hughley Speaks On Jay-Z & Diddy Allegations

Elsewhere, DL Hughley compared Diddy’s currently tanking reputation to Jay-Z’s, who has received a lot more industry support defending his reputation. While Hughley still wouldn’t put it past anyone, he also made a comment about how these moves – plus previous takedowns of R. Kelly and Bill Cosby – have taken down the 1990s decade in popular culture. In addition, he also commended Hov’s response to the allegations and posited that everyone deserves the presumption of innocence in these cases until proven otherwise.

Overall, it seems like DL Hughley wants to see everything play out in court before making a strong judgement call, as Diddy made the same denial of wrongdoing that Jay-Z did. Of course, the Sean Combs situation quickly proved to be much more different thanks to that video of him assaulting Cassie that leaked earlier this year. With a whole lot to anticipate in 2025 and surely more legal developments on the way, we can expect hip-hop and pop culture at large to continue discussing this heavily.

DL Hughley Clowns Janet Jackson For Conspiratorial Take On Kamala Harris

DL Hughley went after Janet Jackson on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday after the iconic singer made headlines for claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris isn’t Black. Trolling her for the conspiratorial take, Hughley jokingly accused Jackson of “breathing through the nose of a white woman.”

“JanetJacksons interview sounded like a #Trump rally! FYI!! It’s a little ironic to question whether someone is black while you’re breathing through the nose of a white woman! #TeamDl,” he wrote in one post. Following it up, he added: “KamalaHarris looks the way she does cuz she has mom from India and a dad from Jamaica! #JanetJackson looks the way she does cuz she has a plastic surgeon! #TeamDl,” as well as “All I know is #Kamala looks like she did when she was in Oakland! But Janet don’t look like she did when she was Penny! What the hell was in that iron??”

That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.’” When The Guardian explained that Harris is both Black and Indian, Jackson countered: “Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. Rip Micheals teases Tracy Morgan, D.L. Hughley, and other Big Name Stars for the 12th Annual April Fools Comedy Jam

Live comedy is officially back and if Rip Micheals has anything to say about it, better than ever as preparations are underway for the 12th Annual April Fools Comedy Jam. Comedy legend Rip Micheals sat down with the Source to talk about the upcoming show (taking place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Friday, April 5) which is a celebration of multi-generation comedy, hip-hop, and his health.

Straight away, Micheals explains that one notable thing about the show is that “it will be a mixture of hip hop and comedy.”

Micheals explains how he carefully curated a lineup of comedians from different generations, stating “we’ve got young and old and everything in between.”

Tracy Morgan is set to headline the show, which boasts a lineup including D.L. Hughley, Bruce Bruce, Nephew Tommy, Loni Love, DJ Envy, Jess Hilarious, London Brown, Chaunté Wayans, Torrei Hart, Brian Hooks, Cocoa Brown, and more. Musical guests will include Young Jeezy, GloRilla, and more.

For Micheals, who has been very public about his health struggles, the show has a deeper purpose.

“Laughter is healing,” he says. “Like, my name is actually ‘Rip Mic Heals. I’ve always been blessed with the gift from God to make people laugh and forget about the things that they’ve got going on in life.”

Micheals also talks about the importance that comedy played during the pandemic and in the years after and how he has tried to use his comedy and shows as healing mechanisms, saying that he sees comedy a an opportunity to heal people.

“A lot of people suffered from depression and anxiety issues [during the pandemic]. And I feel that since then, comedy has been a vessel to allow people to come out and just have a great time- and combined them with music too. So overall, we want to just make people feel good again and are trying to restore people back to what they were and looking forward to coming out and looking forward to life and just smiling at the pain and everything that they’ve been through.

As for his current state of health, Micheals explains that his heart health is at about 12-15% and he is currently on the heart transplant list, giving a shout out to the staff at the Mayo Clinic and Long Island Jewish Hospital as well as all of his fans that have supported him throughout his health journey and continue to support his comedic endeavors.

Rip emphasizes that his condition is genetic and says “I want to emphasize the importance of regular checkups, especially if heart conditions run in your family. There are steps you can take to protect your heart.”

Micheals emphasizes that he expects this year to be one of the best Comedy Jams in history, not just because of the lineup, but because of the passion of all that are involved in it.

While most people with such a heart condition might relax after such a major event, Michaels shows no signs of slowing down, laying out a list of other projects he has coming up in the near future including a comedy special set he just filmed at the Apollo in February, the second season of Urban Eats and Treats, Fall Back in Love Tour and acting..

In conclusion, he states: “I’m going to give it all of my heart that’s left in me.”

Why Mo’Nique & D.L. Hughley Are At Odds

Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast has continued in recent weeks to garner a reputation for being the premiere platform for comedians and public figures to air their grievances and double down on their public feuds. Last week, comedian and actress Mo’Nique joined the pod, delivering a few scathing takes about Oprah, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Tyler Perry, and others. However, the biggest bombshell dropped on the appearance was Mo’Nique’s opinion of Kings of Comedy comedian D.L. Hughley, escalating a dispute that dates back to 2022.

The Beef Began Over A Contract Dispute

According to Mo’Nique, D.L. Hughley has been speaking negatively about her for years, though their actual feud began during a 2022 stand-up comedy performance in Detroit, Michigan. Apparently, both Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley had listed in their contracts that they were to headline the event, and neither party would agree to go on stage before the other. While some comedians could have simply swallowed their pride and accepted the terms of the stalemate, Mo’Nique and D.L. Hughley took the spat to social media, where things became far more heated and personal.

So personal, in fact, that Mo’Nique called out Hughley for not publicly naming the person who sexually assaulted his daughter, Ryan Nicole Shepard. Hughley has spoken about the assault publicly in the past and explained that he had trouble believing his daughter at first because the alleged abuser was someone he trusted and respected. After the heated exchange, both parties seemed to put the beef to rest for a time, and though they never truly reconciled, it appeared as though the feud was over.

Monique’s Comments Reignited The Rivalry

During her Club Shay Shay appearance, Mo’Nique discussed an incident in which she appeared on D.L. Hughley’s radio show (without the King of Comedy star present) and became offended at the line of questioning she received during a segment of “Would You Rather.” According to Mo’Nique, she had a personal discussion with Hughley after the event in which the comedian was incredibly dismissive of her grievances. D.L. Hughley denies being dismissive of her, as he agreed to pull the entire “Would You Rather” segment, which is still not available for the public to hear to this day.

D.L. Hughley Responded In A Fiery Social Media Post

After the Club Shay Shay appearance, D.L. Hughley responded to Mo’Nique’s comments via Instagram. In the explosive video, Hughley mocked the comedian’s career, made fun of her weight, and exposed several alleged lies that Mo’Nique has told to the public in recent years. He also called her Netflix special “trash” and claimed that the stand-up comedy routine “got the worst reviews of any Netflix special in history.”

Since then, the pair have continued to fire shots back and forth at one another through social media, with no sign of an end in sight. Mo’Nique will likely continue to drag the feud out in public as promotion for her upcoming stint on Katt Williams’ Dark Matter tour, which she is poised to join later this month.

Chris Rock’s “Selective Outrage” Defended By Leslie Jones, D.L. Hughley, Jimmy Kimmel

He certainly didn’t hold back during his latest comedy special, and Chris Rock is feeling the heat. Nearly one year after being slapped on the Oscars stage, Rock reveals Selective Outrage, where he had Will Smith in his crosshairs. Smith was widely vilified for assaulting Rock on an international platform, but he has repeatedly shared his remorse over his actions. Smith has released statements, apologies, and even sat down with Red Table Talk to discuss mental health and healing.

However, that didn’t move Rock, and he targeted Smith in his special. He talked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s “entanglement” with August Alsina, referred to Will as “Suge Smith,” and went in about being assaulted in front of a crowd of white people. It earned both praise and pushback. Several of Rock’s famous friends have come to his defense.

Leslie Jones Stands for Comedy, Kimmel Is Proud Of Rock

Leslie Jones reacted by responding to an Instagram comment. The social media user suggested that it was time for Rock to move forward. “Y’all forget he got slapped in front of the world yo! His kids, his mama, peers EVERYONE!” wrote Jones. “I wonder how y’all muthaf**kas would handle that! And he is A COMEDIAN this is his way of expressing it. If he sang he would write a song. Cause it’s a painful thing that happen.” She went on to call people “hypocrites” and told them to “shut the f*ck up.”

Jimmy Kimmel also spoke with PEOPLE and said he hopes that Rock and Smith will move past this. He admitted that he hadn’t spoken with Smith, but he communicated with Rock. “I mean, to be slapped in the face and to stay that cool is something that Chris should be proud of,” Kimmel said. “Chris’ grandchildren, I hope, will still be proud of that when he’s dead and gone.”

D.L. Hughley Thinks Chris Rock Deserves To Speak His Truth

Rock has another ally in D.L. Hughley, who went after people who didn’t think the scandal needed to be rehashed. “That happened to HIM, to CHRIS… and the ENTIRE WORLD got to weigh in and talk trash and make jokes and ‘shoulda, woulda, coulda’ the whole damn thing to death,” said Hughley. “OTHER COMEDIANS have bits about it, it was an opener for most of us. The ONE PERSON YOU NEVER HEARD FROM ABOUT IT WAS CHRIS!!

“So NOW, that HE decides to address it on HIS TIME, people have the audacity to say: ‘he’s bitter… Why is he still talking about that… let it go… or the best one WE’VE MOVED ON’. So YOU got to speak on it but he can’t??? Y’all are a straight f*n trip. Congratulations @chrisrock YOU DID THE DAMN THANG!! #TeamDL.”

D.L. Hughley Suggests Rappers “Talk Themselves Into Dying”

His commentary on pop culture has often created controversy, but that hasn’t stopped D.L. Hughley from chiming in. The veteran entertainer is an unapologetic voice in the industry, even engaging in a war of words with Kanye West. The comedian recently sat down with VladTV, where a chat about aging soon drifted to discussions about rappers.

“You have seen so many situations, you know why you’re alive now? You don’t believe you’re immortal,” said Hughley. He recalled the days of his youth when people would dangerous things that were considered normal. This included riding in the back of pickup trucks or not wearing a helmet when riding a bike.

“I believe that bad sh*t is possible,” Hughley further stated. “It’s arrogant to believe that something should go the way you think it should.”

Hughley and Vlad spoke on the differences between young people and their elders. Vlad noted that you don’t see old people who don’t use seatbelts or fail to take precautions.

“There’s some people who test death. When they say the power of life and death is in the tongue, I’ve heard people talk themselves into dying,” the comedian also stated. “You make a song called ‘Ready to Die,’ guess what might happen?”

They then discussed Tupac Shakur and Biggie’s songs and album titles that all mentioned death.

D.L. Hughley Says Dwayne Wade & Gabrielle Union Shouldn’t Be Surprised By Reactions To Zaya Wade

D.L. Hughley recently sat down for a lengthy interview with none other than DJ Vlad.

In typical VLADTV fashion, the 59-year-old certainly ends up opening up about a number of controversial topics.

“I think two things can exist; I think that I can respect the love and protection that they feel [as parents]. I think loving your child without recriminations is required of us. It’s also disingenuous to believe that people aren’t gonna have an opinion to that. If you make these things public, people there are people [who are] gonna have public assessments of it, so I can’t fault you for loving your child and protecting them and being proud of them, and equally, I can’t fault people for having an opinion” says the actor in a clip of their talk.

“Listen, to me, you’re not grown until you leave my house. If you’re still going to a pediatrician, if you need my permission to go to a movie, then I’m going to have a say in what happens. If you believe that isn’t how you want to run your family, I have no choice but to respect that,” he continues afterwards.

Of course, this all stems from Gabrielle Union coming to the defense of her stepdaughter, Zaya Wade. In 2020, the 15-year-old publicly came out as transgender.

In a resurfacing clip of an interview that the actress did with Jemele Hill, she calls out Boosie Badazz for continuously speaking on Zaya. “He’s so pre-occupied. It’s almost like, thou doth protest too much, Little Boos. You got a lot of d*ck on your mind,” says the She’s All That actress.

In response, the “Set It Off” rapper took to his Twitter account. “LOL!! THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW I LOVE WOMEN N THE WORLD KNOW YOUR HUSBAND LOVE D*CK!! I HOPE U DONT THINK BLACKS LOOK AT YALL LIKE A POWER COUPLE THEY DONT!! I HAD REFUSED TO TALK ABOUT YALL IN INTERVIEWS N HEAR YOU GO!!” he explicitly writes in a tweet from December.

D.L. Hughley Compares Kanye West To Lucifer

The beef between D.L. Hughley and Kanye West is well-documented. They seem unlikely to have tension, but following West’s anti-Semitic rants, Hughley came forward. The legendary comedian argued that if Kanye was a woman, he would be under conservatorship like Britney Spears.

In a new interview with VladTV, Hughley again tackles West’s controversies. “I really fault a lot of these people who are taking advantage,” he began. “Well, I can’t say they’re taking advantage.” However, he doesn’t understand why West’s team allows him to jump from one outlet to another, knowing he would make unhinged statements.

Vlad brought up West stating that his mother, Michael Jordan’s father, and Bill Cosby’s son were all sacrificed. He also detailed the circumstances surrounding Donda West’s untimely death following cosmetic surgery. Vlad claims he investigated the story, and it was far from a sacrifice.

“I think that—biblically, Lucifer was a cherub. He was—his name means Morning Star. Lucifer was beautiful and he was God’s minister of music,” Hughley replied. “He was exalted, and he was perfect. And Lucifer had seen God. He knew that he was created by him. But Lucifer was so charismatic and so talented, he talked other angels in trying to bum rush heaven.”

“If talent and charisma is so mesmerizing, so intoxicating, it can make angels rise up against God,” Hughley continued. “It can make us alter our understanding of things. We’ll start to believe things. That is the most dangerous thing about what’s going on here.”

“It says a lot that a man who loves Hitler and Trump, it says a lot that you love those two people. And it says even more that people are contorting themselves to make that make sense.”

Meanwhile, after declaring his admiration of Adolf Hitler, saying Nazis aren’t all bad, and repeatedly speaking negatively about the Jewish community, West has been silent. He has promised he will attempt the presidential nomination in 2024, and it’s expected that he will reemerge with the details of his campaign.

D.L. Hughley Says Media Let Dana White Off Easy After He Slapped Wife

The UFC president apologized, but D.L. Hughley doesn’t think that’s enough for Dana White. We previously reported on White’s controversy after he was filmed in a nightclub with his wife. The two were in the throw of an argument when she slapped White, and he, in turn, hit her back. After going viral, White and his wife emerged with an apology, but Hughley believes the media would have treated the situation differently had this been a Black man.

“’What can BROWN do for you?’ Apparently not a damn thing!” Hughley wrote. His play on the word “brown” was a nod to White’s last name as well as Chris Brown, Bobby Brown, and Antonio Brown. All three men have been tied to domestic violence scandals. “If that had been a brotha, it’d be NONSTOP coverage.”

Hughley added that the media would be “dredging up a playground fight from the 3rd grade, scouring old tweets, you name it.”

“Dana White ‘s ENTIRE LIFE is immersed in brutal , physical violence,” the comedy legend continued. “He’s amassed a fortune from it. Where are the salacious headlines?? Where’s the pressure?? Ohhhhh, he apologized🙄 #WhitePrivilege (PUN INTENDED) scores a 1st round knockout yet again.”

In Hughley’s comment section, several of his famous peers co-signed the message.

Jamie Foxx wrote “F*cking preach!!!!,” while Willie D from the Geto Boys added, “Absolutely.”

Meanwhile, White said he was “embarrassed” by the altercation with his wife.

“My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years.” He added, “We’ve known each other since we were 12 years old. We’ve obviously been through some sh*t together, we’ve got three kids.”

“It’s never happened before. It’s the first time it’s ever happened.”
