French Montana Claims Record Labels Are Now Taking Out Life Insurance Policies On Their Artists

Following a series of rapper deaths in recent years, record labels have supposedly begun taking out life insurance policies on their artists. This is what rapper French Montana claimed during a recent episode of DJ AkademiksOff The Record podcast.

Montana delved into beef in the rap game, and how things are handled now, compared to the past.

“We was beefing for real,” Montana said. “People was dying and this and that, and it was blocking a lot of money. People didn’t want to touch you. Your rap friends stop picking up, the labels stop picking up. It gets crazy. But now it’s even crazier, they gettin’ life insurance on artists. At least back then, we didn’t have that. You’re praying on his death. You’re praying on making millions on his death.”

Last month, Montana released an album called Montega, which was produced entirely by Harry Fraud. In an interview with Okayplayer, Montana said the purpose of his previous album, They Got Amnesia was to remind people of his musical ability. On Montega, he seeks to cement his and Fraud’s legacy.

“…I scratched off my bucket list everything that I wanted to accomplish,” Montana said. “From going platinum on albums to going diamond. Now it’s back to how I want to finish my legacy with Harry Fraud how we started. How we made music, from the point of view of when we had our backs to the wall. When we would fight with music to get out of the rabbit hole, that’s what we got with this. Now we’re making music to bring everybody back but take them where we’re going at the same time.”

DJ Akademiks has spent the majority of his recent career beefing with rappers and other entertainers. Sometimes he is beefing with Freddie Gibbs and other times he might be getting called out by other entertainers or musicians. Just recently old audio of him saying he would sleep with any girl as long as she had a college I.D. surfaced. In a new episode of his podcast, he and DJ Vlad discussed a beef that he had with Doja Cat a couple years ago.

Ak said that the singer had sent him a bunch of messages around the time she was being criticized for hanging out in white supremacist chat rooms.

“[She] sent me a bunch of messages,” Ak said. “It was weird, it was when I was covering the whole thing about like… She was in some white supremacist chat rooms,” he added.

He went on to say how his coverage of her sitation made her “really upset.” The Youtuber and podcaster pulled up DM’s where she told him that she did not like him, and even played a voice memo where she called him a “sick person.”

“No, your problem is that you exploit people. You exploit people’s depression, you exploit people’s mistakes, and you try to bring attention to things that don’t need attention, and that makes you a sick person,” Doja said in the voice memo.

Ak went back to reading the messages Doja sent him. “I said, ‘That’s cool, I don’t like anyone either.’ She’s like, ‘You’re a low-life piece of shit.’ I was laughing, and she was like, ‘I really don’t like you at all.’”

Akademiks said he told Doja to “get in [her] feelings some more” before she responded with, “It’s easy for someone like you to say that with no feelings.”

DJ Akademiks trended online Wednesday after audio went viral of him saying that he would have sex with a 17-year-old. The Neighborhood Talk stated the audio is allegedly from 2013 when he was 20 years old.

“And to keep it real if you think about it in the bigger scheme of things, there’s not much difference between a 20 or a 17 or a 21 and a 17,” Akademiks said in the clip. “Just kinda means one’s a minor and one’s not a minor. But listen, I will say I adopted this rule which I think is fine. I said, listen, as long as a chick got a college ID she’s getting f*cked. I don’t care if she 17, I don’t care if she 17 and a half, I don’t care if she just turned 17, she gon’ get this d*ck.”

Ak would offer an explanation through a stream later but stood by his belief.

“What I was trying to say is that, either you’re 21 or 20, right? And someone’s like, 17, this Is only the college dynamic, right? Because they put four years of kids together, just like they do in high school. I said, usually there’s not much of a difference, like, when you’re in college, you don’t really see the difference and I still believe that.”
