Jeezy Recalls How Jay-Z Hopped On “My President” & Their Wild Live Debut

It’s not always that an artist gets to hear a remix of their song live for the first time alongside a lot of fans. Still, that’s exactly what happened to Jeezy when it comes to his track “My President,” which has a killer Jay-Z feature on the remix. Moreover, the trap pioneer recently stopped by NFL MVP Cam Newton’s Funky Friday Podcast earlier this week. During their conversation, he told the story of how Hov really wanted to be on that beat and how they got those gears turning. In fact, the Atlanta legend was incredibly surprised when the New York rapper got on stage and performed his verse- which his collaborator had never heard prior.

“I remember Jay-Z called, he was like, ‘Yo man, I need to put a verse on that ‘My President,’” Jeezy began. “I ain’t heard the verse, we in the club and I’m performing the song, the music stops. He start rapping the verse I’ve never heard in the club in front of everybody and they’re going cr*zy. I’m just sitting up there I looked at my man like, ‘I told you! I told you!”

Jeezy On Funky Friday

“My President” appeared on Jeezy’s fifth studio album The Recession, which he also called his best. As far as how Jay-Z entered the picture, that’s actually because of, well, a president. The Snowman and the Roc mogul were at Washington, D.C.’s Love Nightclub in January of 2009 to celebrate President Barack Obama’s inauguration, which is where Mr. Carter debuted his verse. The energy in that room must’ve been electric for many different reasons. Few collabs have such a specific and meaningful context behind them.

Still, the 45-year-old did it all for the love of the game; he’s making his money elsewhere. In a recent interview with Forbes New Money, he spoke on how his business ventures outside of rap, like food and liquor (not the Lupe Fiasco album), got him some bags. It’s something that the two lyricists can share, actually, and hopefully there’s another stellar link-up on the way. On that note, stay logged into HNHH for more news and the latest updates on Jay-Z and Jeezy.

Drake Reposts Fan Grabbing His Neck, Naomi Sharon Announces OVO Sound Debut

Earlier this week, a clip of Drake making his way through the crowd at one of his shows circulated, as one fan opted for far more than a high-five. The attendee grabbed the performer’s neck, prompting him to look pretty shocked, though he laughed it off soon after. The artist recently shared a screen grab from the exact moment of the neck grab, simply captioning it “Dialed In.”

The incident took place during one of his stops on his “It’s All A Blur” tour alongside 21 Savage. The artists have been performing around the U.S. and Canada since the beginning of July, and are scheduled to continue into October. Drake’s also continued to tease his new album For All The Dogs for some time now. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the drop, however, an official release date has unfortunately not yet been announced.

Drake Says He’s “Dialed In”

Fans thought For All The Dogs would be dropping on August 25, as Amazon Music had previously announced that release date. For obvious reasons, they were disappointed when the day came and went with no new Drake. “It’s not going to be that much longer,” he told a crowd the next day. “Trust me, you know I got shows every night. But I promise you, For All The Dogs is on the way. If you’ve ever loved anything I’ve ever done in the past, I promise you, this album will be for you.”

With that being said, Drake’s newest OVO Sound signee just recently announced her debut album on the label. Naomi Sharon shared a new music video for “Definition of Love” a couple of days ago, and it looks like there’s more to come. The new LP is called Obsidian, and is expected to arrive later this year. The performer gave some insight to the title in a press release. “Obsidian is a protective stone that shields against negative energy,” she explained. “Given its sharpness, the stone is considered to pierce into darkness to reveal the truth itself. I called this album Obsidian as it’s about rebirth, confrontation and healing.” Keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Drake and Naomi Sharon.

Copy Of Eminem’s Debut Album Set For Auction

The piece sold for an impressive $1 million in order to break that record. Fans were even more surprised a few days later when they found out it was actually Drake who purchased the ring.

A few weeks ago The New York Times did a piece celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. They recruited Eminem to tell a story about rap music that influenced him. Travis Scott’s “Utopia” First-Week Sales Projections Updated To Over 485K

Travis Scott finally unveiled his highly-anticipated fourth studio album, UTOPIA, last month. He dropped it on July 28 after years of perpetually teasing the new project. The LP boasts several high profile features, including Drake, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Westside Gunn, and more. It even features a surprise-appearance from Beyonce.

UTOPIA was previously projected to sell between 245-275K album equivalent units from streaming, and around 200K from physical sales. That adds up to somewhere around 450K in first-week sales. The estimates have recently been updated, however, and it’s looking like UTOPIA could be surpassing expectations by quite a bit. The album is now expected to sell around 485K album equivalent units in it’s first week. It’s also projected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The news isn’t terribly shocking considering the fact that on it’s first day alone, it got more than 128 million streams on Spotify.

He was even scheduled to perform at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt the day of the album’s release, however, the show was ultimately canceled.

Luckily for fans, he did promise that the infamous Pyramids show will happen eventually, once all of his ducks are in a row. “Egypt at the pyramids will happen But due to demand and detail logistics They just need a bit a time to set lay on lands,” he told followers on Twitter/X. Fans can now catch Travis Scott in Rome, Italy tomorrow (August 7), where he’s scheduled to perform in the city’s historical venue Circus Maximus.

Coi Leray Only Sells 10k Copies In Her Album’s First Week

Last week Coi Leray released her sophomore album COI. The album featured David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Lola Brooke, and more. COI followed her debut studio album Trendsetter which came out last year and featured the hit song “Blick Blick” with Nicki Minaj. COI was propelled by its lead single “Players” which has been a stable hit since late 2022. The album has taken a beating from music critics who called out its allegedly lazy sampling throughout. Now it seems like fans agree as the album only sold 10k units in its first week.

Last year, Trendsetter sold 11.5k units in its first week and debuted at number 89 on the Billboard 200. Now, despite “Players” being her biggest hit so far Coi Leray has taken a step back. COI sold just 10k units in its first tracking week which was only good enough for number 102 on the Billboard 200. Many fans were quick to blame Leray’s label for their lack of promotion more than the album itself. Some on Twitter pointed out opportunities like the recent BET Awards where they could have done more to promote COI.

Coi Leray’s Dissppointing Debut

The sales are surprisingly low given how much momentum Coi Leray seemed to have going into the album. On top of scoring her biggest hit ever, she’s also been a part of another hit song this year. Last year David Guetta returned with one of the biggest hits of 2022 “I’m Good.” This year he turned around and teamed up with Coi Leray and Anne-Marie on the song “Baby Don’t Hurt Me.”

Coi’s low numbers had many fans comparing her to Chloe Bailey. The Chloe x Halle singer released her debut solo album earlier this year. Despite her popularity and success with her sister, her solo album fell far short of expectations. In Pieces also only sold 10k in its first week and debuted at number 110. What do you think of Coi Leray’s first-week streaming numbers? Let us know in the comment section below.

Lil Durk & J. Cole’s “All My Life” Debuts At No. 2 On The Billboard Hot 100

All My Life” by J. Cole and Lil Durk has been nothing short of a success, whether as the first single to the latter’s upcoming album Almost Healed (whose tracklist and features just dropped) or as just a big moment in the hip-hop field. Moreover, the track officially debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking new commercial highs for the two. Not only is it the Chicago MC’s highest-ever debut as a lead artist, but it’s also the North Carolina lyricist’s highest-charting feature. Even if it hadn’t charted at all, it would still remain a great song with some highly praised verses. That being said, outselling rival NBA YoungBoy’s mixtape Richest Opp must be a nice cherry on top.

Furthermore, the song’s also a testament to The Voice’s versatility and to Cole’s reputation as a feature killer. Sure, Lil Durk caught some flack for saying he’s not a fan of lyrical rappers, but only said so as he gave the Dreamville MC his flowers. “Nah he went crazy,” he told RapCaviar. “I had to listen to it like four times. You know I ain’t super big on lyricist-type rappers.

Lil Durk & J. Cole Have A Huge Hit In “All My Life”

“With Cole, [he] was one of the ones, like him and Jay, you gotta play them 50 times to catch what they’re saying,” Lil Durk continued. “Like, if you listen to Lil Wayne right now, and you heard some s**t ten years ago that you just catch onto today. But he definitely gave me one of them verses and I appreciate it. ‘Cause he ain’t even have to, for real. He could’ve gave us anything.” It wasn’t the first time he praised J. Cole for his contributions, and it certainly won’t be the last time that fans do.

Meanwhile, now all sights are on Almost Healed, an album that could take the “Hanging With Wolves” MC to similarly impressive commercial highs. With the production credits boasting some huge names along with features like Future and Juice WRLD, it won’t be long before it lands on May 26. Overall, he set a high bar for himself that continued his streak of artistic growth. For more news and the latest updates on Lil Durk and J. Cole, stick around on HNHH.

Jack Harlow Sees A Future In Acting: “This Isn’t A Side Mission”

Jack Harlow says that he wants to continue acting after the release of his debut, White Men Can’t Jump. The Jackman rapper discussed the future of his career during a screening of the movie in New York City.

“Through this film I was able to gain my confidence as an actor, and to me, this shit is not a side quest,” he said, as caught by PEOPLE. “This isn’t a side mission that I’m tacking on just to keep the entertainer thing going and make some extra money.”

He continued: “I really got the bug and fell in love with this, and I’m developing a deep passion for the craft of this the same way I had in music. I don’t want it to be a side hustle, I want to full-on go after this, and I’m going after it and I’m going to continue to do more.” Harlow also described the Los Angeles set as being like “summer camp or school” each day. He further admitted that “acting is way harder than music, if you ask me; way more grueling, so I loved the challenge and so grateful that this was the start.”

The screening comes a month after the release of Harlow’s third studio album, Jackman. With minimal promotion as well as no features, he dropped the project on April 28. It peaked at No. 8 on the US Billboard 200.

While White Men Can’t Jump is Harlow’s first appearance in a feature film, he will also appear in Wednesday night’s episode of Dave. The Hulu series was similarly started by Lil Dicky, another rapper who has found success in the acting business. White Men Can’t Jump will release on the platform on Friday.

Missy Elliott Premieres New Song “The Greatest” During Lovers & Friends Festival Set

One of the most anticipated sets at Las Vegas’ Lovers & Friends Festival on Saturday (May 6) was undoubtedly Missy Elliott. Not only did the rap legend run through her greatest tracks, but she previewed an upcoming song fittingly titled “The Greatest.” On Twitter, she posted a short clip of it, and though no Missy verse is found, the beat sounds infectious and energizing thanks to the beat and featured guest Ha Sizzle, a bounce artist. Also on the social media platform, she confirmed the song’s title and said that 2nd Line Shawty would also appear. Moreover, HipHopDX confirmed that Wili Hendrix, ReemixLoops, and Michael Aristotle helped produce “The Greatest.”

Of course, it’s a great time to be a Missy Elliott fan. Recently, the Virginia native sat down with Lil Wayne, who once again praised her as his favorite rapper. “As a kid before Jay- this before I even knew a Jay-Z existed, I was into Missy Elliott,” he stated. “You know it was because you were able to say things that I would want to say as I’m rapping. You not only made me like- you made me love it. And I became so interested in you. And what happened was I bought the album and did not know that you really was spitting like… You know what I mean. You know I spit that verse to you all the time.”

Missy Elliott Teases “The Greatest,” Her Next Single

Furthermore, this new track would be the 51-year-old’s first solo single since “Cool Off” in 2020. In addition, this hype comes after her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I want to say this is HUGE not for just me but all my Sisters in HIPHOP,” Missy Elliott remarked on Instagram last week. “This door is now OPEN to showcase the hard work that many of us WOMEN contribute to MUSIC. I have cried all day because I am GRATEFUL thank you @rockhall & all on the committee & Supafriends.”

While she hasn’t specified when we should be expecting “The Greatness,” we’ll happily wait for more heat from Miss E. As such, many fans are likely hoping for a full-length project soon, as well. No matter the case, if you’re not a fan, now’s certainly the time to get into her catalog. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Missy Elliott.
