Drake Covers Metro Boomin’s Name While Promoting 21 Savage’s New Album

Drake and 21 Savage are as tight and as proven as modern rap duos get, and their bond is something pretty special. Moreover, they have a whole collaborative tape together, Her Loss, and their run of hits before that speaks for itself. As such, it’s absolutely no surprise that the 6ix God would want to promote his partner’s brand-new album, american dream, on his Instagram Story, as he did on Friday (January 12). However, while he told “his brother” to “talk to them,” the most notable part of the post wasn’t the message. Rather, it was the implicit one via emojis sent to one of the game’s best producers, Metro Boomin,

Furthermore, Drake was listening to the cut “just like me” from 21 Savage, Burna Boy, and Metro. By placing a series of talking emojis towards the bottom of the screen, though, he blocked the beatmaker’s name from appearing on the screen. This, many fans thought immediately, is a reference to the Toronto superstar’s ongoing alleged beef with the St. Louis native. For those unaware, the two have thrown shade at each other quite often in recent weeks, and it all stems from their competition to win for Best Rap Album categories at awards shows these days.

Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg; other rumors exist as to why Drake and Metro Boomin don’t get along. These could have to do with other collaborative projects, their work with collaborators in common, and a whole host of other reasons. Still, for what it’s worth, Young Metro had previously expressed on Twitter that there’s no real or deep beef between him and Drizzy, although he didn’t really elaborate much further. Maybe this is all just not-so-friendly competition around award show season, or it’s the culmination of a significant run of back-and-forths.

Regardless of what it is, it’s not the only smoke that american dream holds, whether directly or just by association, in this case. On the album itself, the Slaughter Gang head honcho appears to take shots at Gunna, although that’s also just fan speculation. Childish Gambino Accused Of Not Paying “Awaken, My Love!” Cover’s Team

Giannina Antonette Oteto may be an unknown name to you, but you have definitely seen her before. Moreover, she graces the cover art of Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover’s, “Awaken, My Love!” album cover from back in 2016. Creative director Ibra Ake took the picture of Oteto wearing a beaded headdress by WXYZ Jewelry designer Laura Wass. However, for years, Oteto has accused the multi-disciplinary artist and his team of avoiding legal contact to actually receive payment for her contribution to the project, and that she’s not alone in this fight. Recently, she took to Facebook to update followers on the matter and comment on the bittersweet emotions she holds for this work.

“Being able to hold an album that I’m on the cover of,” Giannina Oteto captioned a (seemingly since-deleted) picture of her holding a vinyl pressing of Childish Gambino’s album. “And having my bestie mom next to me to celebrate! My number 1 cheerleader! This album has been so hard for me to celebrate for many reasons, and for years I resented it even. It put me through a lot but finally being able to celebrate it means a lot! Update: I resented it because myself, the makeup artist, and stylist (all black women) were [taken] advantage of and lied to.

“We received low pay. [They] promised residuals. But [we] never received anything,” she continued. “The only person who received residuals was a white woman who created the headpiece even though she was not on set to work on this (but she also deserves it). After years of lies and silence then finding out statute of limitation complications… it’s been an exhausting, emotional, and overall sad thing to deal with. So it took so much from me especially the fact that we all worked on it with so much love and being proud to represent black artists. All of my lawyers’ communications have been ignored by [Childish Gambino] and his team. #bittersweet.”

Furthermore, the model also reposted various drawings she received since “Awaken, My Love!”‘s release. As such, she clearly appreciates her contributions and opportunities, but rightfully thinks that she and many others deserve more. We’ll see if the actor eventually responds to all this. T-Pain’s Natural Vocals Leave Fans Stunned In New Live Performance

T-Pain’s talent is no longer really up for debate. The once quite maligned autotune crooner has emerged as an unmistakable talent in recent years. That came when he more than proved that he was capable of singing without the vocal effects. In a recent video, he once again delivered an absolutely spectacular performance that saw fans blown away by his natural vocal talents.

The performance is called On Top Of The Covers (Live From The Sun Rose) and it was also shared to streaming platforms as a live album. The performance features numerous songs that T-Pain made his own versions of on his recent cover album Under The Covers. He also works some of his own classic hits into the mix throughout the setlist. On the video version of the performance uploaded to YouTube, you can see the rapper and singer dazzling in the gorgeous West Hollywood venue. Check out the full 70-minute performance below.

Playboi Carti shared the cover in a post on his Instagram Story, earlier this week. It appears to feature a reworking of Friedrich’s Landscape with Graves.

Friedrich is best known for his rich landscapes in which he typically silhouettes a protagonist against a vast backdrop. His most notable works include Chalk Cliffs on Rügen (1818) and Wanderer above the Sea of Fog (1818).

Kanye and Ty Dolla Sign shared their first single from the upcoming project, “Vultures,” in late November. More recently, Kanye played numerous songs from the project at a restaurant in Miami on Sunday evening. They included tracks with features from Young Thug as well as Future. Additionally, Ty Dolla Sign shared a tracklist for the album which includes the Nicki Minaj-assisted “New Body.” Other expected guests include Playboi Carti, Quavo, Lil Durk, Chris Brown, and more. Travis Barker Covers Gunna’s “fukumean” On The Drums With Finesse: Watch

Travis Barker can’t let go of his beloved drums– even in the delivery room of his wife Kourtney Kardashian, which got him some backlash. However, we doubt that there will be many people complaining about his latest display of skill and talent on the kit. Moreover, the iconic pop-punk drummer covered one of the biggest hits of 2023: Gunna’s “fukumean,” and put his own spin on it. Instead of just playing the track’s drum pattern, he actually adapted his drumming to the rap flow on the song. It’s an unconventional method that isn’t that much better than how it sounds on paper, but that’s more of a slight against the rapper’s performance than the drummer.

Furthermore, Travis Barker showboats his juggling of his drumsticks, which is just as much of a spectacle as the notes themselves. In addition, he works in some creative fills, triplets, and other details to switch up his drumming from Gunna’s persistent rhymes on “fukumean.” Of course, this also opens up the possibility of the two of them collaborating on a song together one day, which might be even more likely now. After all, the College Park MC teased new music recently, so maybe he’s in a creative place right now that will open him up to new possibilities.

Earlier this week, GQ Germany unveiled its latest cover star, which is none other than Erykah Badu. The publication declared the Grammy winning performer the “Music Icon Of The Year” for their “Men Of The Year” issue, and she certainly brought all the intensity one would expect for her shoot. On the cover, Badu is seen striking a dramatic pose with her arms raised above her head, as her long braids obscure her otherwise bare chest.

She reflected on pioneering Neo-Soul in her interview with GQ Germany, describing how she paved the way for other artists with her debut album. “I helped introduce them,” she began. “I was the first in my genre. There was no genre until the name Neo-Soul was created for the album Baduizm because no one could categorize what I was doing. I drilled a hole in the dam, so to speak, and all the like-minded frequencies flowed through it. It’s a formula that others can use.”

Badu also opened up about what’s it’s been like for her being a woman in a male-dominated industry, claiming that she only began to recognize her gender once she delved into music. “I didn’t know I was a woman,” she explained. “I grew up in a community of people and went to art school to dance. In the art school, everyone is non-binary. We are simply human beings. We are creators.”

“I learned that I am a woman after I came into the music industry,” she continued. “There are a few unspoken rules regarding producers and production. Recently, a group of kids got together to prepare a cover of Boosie Badazz’s 2006 hit, “Wipe Me Down.” As one would expect, the results were hilarious. In a new clip, the pack of little ones is seen gathered at an event, showing off their moves as one of them spits bars. Clearly, they were pretty into it, and social media users think it’s adorable.

“He was ready for that [second] verse lol,” one Twitter user writes. “Oh sh*t they killed it,” someone else says alongside a series of laughing emojis. Other social media users are calling for Boosie himself to react to the video. He’s yet to do so at the time of writing, but he’d surely find it amusing, unlike some other recent uses of his music.

Earlier this month, Boosie took to social media to rant about other artists using his music without permission. He even threatened to take legal action over the allegedly stolen work, calling out artists like Rod Wave, Kodak Black, and more by name. According to him, he appreciates when other performers take inspiration from him, but he’d like to see a check too. Unfortunately, Rod Wave didn’t take too kindly to getting put on blast, and hopped on social media shortly after to fire back.

The Florida native didn’t hold back, giving Boosie a piece of his mind and insisting that he didn’t “steal” anything. “Jus ‘cuz you know ’bout da original song [doesn’t] mean I stole it? However, his most recent example of Breezy fandom has some fans in tears, others with genuine admiration, and a few who think he shouldn’t try too hard. Moreover, the Cottonwood 2 rapper sang the R&B star’s track “Under The Influence” in a new social media video. We have to give him props: he gives it his all and stays (mostly) on key. Plenty of folks have that MC/singer duality, but it’s even more exciting to see it develop from someone you didn’t expect in that lane.

Furthermore, this also happened to 21 S*vage, who’s made a name for himself for trying to show off his pipes. Whether it’s on social media or at an Usher concert, NLE Choppa certainly has steep competition in this regard. Many folks in the comments section of The Neighborhood Talk‘s coverage of this Chris Brown cover demanded a collaboration between the two. Furthermore, maybe they can make a mixtape of sorts with other rappers who you’d never expect to sing some soulful jams on wax.

Jokes aside, though, the Memphis hitmaker is still quite proficient in his own lane. Perhaps he needs just a little bit more practice before he can hope to reach Chris Brown levels of vocal dexterity, at least in melodic and technical terms. But recent singles and collabs like the 21-year-old’s “Ice” with producers Aarne and Imanbek show that he’s still got that fire in him. Still, maybe this is just the start of a new phase in his career, or it’s just a fan being a fan.
