Listen To “Waiting In Vain” By Jordan Ward

According to the press release from Universal Music Canada, Spotify also worked with Soulection to bring this collaboration to life. “Waiting In Vain” is one of Bob Marley & The Wailers’ classic tracks and Jordan felt like he had to jump at the opportunity to do a cover for it. It comes at a perfect time since the biopic Bob Marley: One Love just hit theaters. Ward explains how much this one record means to him, saying, “‘Waiting in Vain’ has been one of my favorite Bob Marley songs for years. I’ve sang it Karaoke many times, and when Spotify asked me to cover a song, it was the obvious choice.” While the original had more had that signature “Bob groove” if you will, Ward modernizes it and brings a more soul-like approach. It goes over tremendously, and we encourage you to check it out.

Quotable Lyrics:

It’s been three years since I’m knockin’ on your door
And I still can knock some more
Cuckoo girl, cuckoo girl, is it feasible?
Ya see, in life I know there’s lots of grief
But your love is my relief
Tears in my eyes burn – tears in my eyes burn

Chet Hanks Covers Summer Walker’s “Session 32”: Watch

Chet Hanks is best known for being the son of Forrest Gump actor Tom Hanks, and for keeping us laughing with his antics on social media. Though his past hasn’t been perfect, in recent years, the nepo baby has put in serious work on changing his life for the better. His Instagram profile lately has been relatively quiet, though he did end 2023 with a wholesome picture posing with pops. Aside from that, Hanks is also working on music again, covering an R&B classic from Atlanta’s own Summer Walker on Tuesday (January 23).

“Little Summer in the winter, ‘Session 32,’” the entertainer wrote in his caption. He made the song his own by plucking on his guitar while singing. The pink sunset behind him helped set the smooth vibe he was obviously going for. In the comments, friends and fans are encouraging him to keep experimenting with his sound. “I thought this was Frank Ocean,” one user joked. “[I know] Chet’s a real bass player ‘cuz when tf was the last time he changed them strings 😂,” another person laughed.

Chet Hanks Brings Us Summer in the Winter

Expression through singing seems to be helping Hanks tremendously at this stage in his healing journey. “Woke up and wrote my first song,” he told his IG followers in a post in early December. “I was not expecting Chet Hanks to have such a beautiful voice,” one comment on that upload reads.

While reactions to Chet Hanks’ cover of a Summer Walker fan favourite roll in, the Still Over It songstress is teasing us with another potential SZA collab. At the end of December, she shared some snippets of what she might sound like on “Hit Different,” which came out via the TDE signee, Ty Dolla Sign, and The Neptunes in 2020. Check those vocals out at the link below, and tell us what you’d like to hear Chet sing next in the comments.

Playboi Carti’s “Popular” Verse Receives Kidz Bop Cover

Kidz Bop has released a cover of the Playboi Carter verse from The Weeknd’s 2023 single “Popular”. The song was produced for the HBO series The Idol and also features a verse from Madonna. The new verse now reads – “Money on top of me, money on top of her/ money on top of me, money on top of her/ If shawty hangs with me, she know I’m popular.” The clean version removes the word “f-ck” from the final line, which is also no longer repeated.

The overwhelming fan reaction was bemusement, which is often the case with Kidz Bop covers. Other 2024 Kidz Bop covers include “Barbie World”, “Seven”, and “Paint The Town Red”. Kidz Bop is famous for taking adult-oriented songs and cleaning them up for a younger audience. The lengths that need to be taken for this to occur often result in fairly bizarre covers, especially as they are still sung by children. How do you feel about “Popular” getting the Kidz Bop cover? Let us know in the comments.

Lil Yachty Teases New Playboi Carti Collab

Meanwhile, Lil Yachty has teased a collaboration with Carti, posting a picture of a double-stacked cup on top of an opium briefcase. If true, it would be their first collab. In 2018, Carti featured on Yachty’s “Get Dripped”. Then, in 2020, Yachty, along with Future, featured on Carti’s “Flex Up”. However, there is no word on the nature of collab at this time.

Fans were understandably stoked for the collab. “I mean they already got bangers so thats a no brainer,” one fan noted. “Bro that’s literally the nicest duo we didn’t know we needed 💯💯,” gushed another. “Well ofc !! That would be the smartest thing to do especially if they ain’t beefin,” reasoned a third. However, not everyone was stoked for the potential collab. Are you excited for another Yachty/Carti collab? Let us know in the comments.

Drake Covers Metro Boomin’s Name While Promoting 21 Savage’s New Album

Drake and 21 Savage are as tight and as proven as modern rap duos get, and their bond is something pretty special. Moreover, they have a whole collaborative tape together, Her Loss, and their run of hits before that speaks for itself. As such, it’s absolutely no surprise that the 6ix God would want to promote his partner’s brand-new album, american dream, on his Instagram Story, as he did on Friday (January 12). However, while he told “his brother” to “talk to them,” the most notable part of the post wasn’t the message. Rather, it was the implicit one via emojis sent to one of the game’s best producers, Metro Boomin,

Furthermore, Drake was listening to the cut “just like me” from 21 Savage, Burna Boy, and Metro. By placing a series of talking emojis towards the bottom of the screen, though, he blocked the beatmaker’s name from appearing on the screen. This, many fans thought immediately, is a reference to the Toronto superstar’s ongoing alleged beef with the St. Louis native. For those unaware, the two have thrown shade at each other quite often in recent weeks, and it all stems from their competition to win for Best Rap Album categories at awards shows these days.

Drake & Metro Boomin Beef Seems To Continue

Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg; other rumors exist as to why Drake and Metro Boomin don’t get along. These could have to do with other collaborative projects, their work with collaborators in common, and a whole host of other reasons. Still, for what it’s worth, Young Metro had previously expressed on Twitter that there’s no real or deep beef between him and Drizzy, although he didn’t really elaborate much further. Maybe this is all just not-so-friendly competition around award show season, or it’s the culmination of a significant run of back-and-forths.

Regardless of what it is, it’s not the only smoke that american dream holds, whether directly or just by association, in this case. On the album itself, the Slaughter Gang head honcho appears to take shots at Gunna, although that’s also just fan speculation. We’ll see if any of these potential feuds get a clarification in the near future. With that in mind, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Metro Boomin, Drake, and 21 Savage.

Metro Boomin Poses For The Magazine

Moreover, in an intriguing snippet from his interview with Icon, Metro Boomin sheds light on his perspective regarding the fusion of music and visuals. He asserts, “For me, music and images go hand in hand. A song is like a film, where the listener creates the images. Furthermore, the richer the music is, and the more details you add, the more vivid those images become.” This statement reflects Metro Boomin’s approach to music creation, emphasizing the immersive experience he aims to provide for listeners.

Furthermore, the super-producer recently teased fans with the promise of not one, but three albums slated for 2024. Building up the anticipation, Metro Boomin shared a selfie on Thursday, January 11, accompanied by a commitment that adds a personal touch to his creative process. Declaring, “No haircut or shave till the album turned in cause I’m in #thatmode,” Metro Boomin invites fans to join him on this musical journey with a symbolic gesture that echoes the traditions of legends like JAY-Z. As Metro Boomin continues to make waves in both the music and fashion realms, his feature on Icon‘s cover adds another layer to his multifaceted presence in the global entertainment landscape.

Childish Gambino Accused Of Not Paying “Awaken, My Love!” Cover’s Team

Giannina Antonette Oteto may be an unknown name to you, but you have definitely seen her before. Moreover, she graces the cover art of Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover’s, “Awaken, My Love!” album cover from back in 2016. Creative director Ibra Ake took the picture of Oteto wearing a beaded headdress by WXYZ Jewelry designer Laura Wass. However, for years, Oteto has accused the multi-disciplinary artist and his team of avoiding legal contact to actually receive payment for her contribution to the project, and that she’s not alone in this fight. Recently, she took to Facebook to update followers on the matter and comment on the bittersweet emotions she holds for this work.

“Being able to hold an album that I’m on the cover of,” Giannina Oteto captioned a (seemingly since-deleted) picture of her holding a vinyl pressing of Childish Gambino’s album. “And having my bestie mom next to me to celebrate! My number 1 cheerleader! This album has been so hard for me to celebrate for many reasons, and for years I resented it even. It put me through a lot but finally being able to celebrate it means a lot! Update: I resented it because myself, the makeup artist, and stylist (all black women) were [taken] advantage of and lied to.

Childish Gambino Accused Of Mistreating Artists Who Worked On Album Cover

“We received low pay. [They] promised residuals. But [we] never received anything,” she continued. “The only person who received residuals was a white woman who created the headpiece even though she was not on set to work on this (but she also deserves it). After years of lies and silence then finding out statute of limitation complications… it’s been an exhausting, emotional, and overall sad thing to deal with. So it took so much from me especially the fact that we all worked on it with so much love and being proud to represent black artists. All of my lawyers’ communications have been ignored by [Childish Gambino] and his team. #bittersweet.”

Furthermore, the model also reposted various drawings she received since “Awaken, My Love!”‘s release. As such, she clearly appreciates her contributions and opportunities, but rightfully thinks that she and many others deserve more. We’ll see if the actor eventually responds to all this. For more news and the latest updates on Childish Gambino, check back in with HNHH.

DMX’s Son Plays “X Gon’ Give It To Ya” On Piano For Rapper’s Birthday: Watch

Happy birthday to the late, great, and forever legendary DMX, who would’ve turned 53 years old today (Monday, December 18). His legacy remains thriving and perseverant, whether thanks to his collaborators in the music industry or the love of his family. For example, the rapper’s former fiancée Desiree Lindstrom recently shared a clip of their son, seven-year-old Exodus, playing the piano. In particular, he covered his father’s iconic smash hit, “X Gon’ Give It To Ya,” playing the opening brass hits on the keys. It was overall a very wholesome moment to witness, especially on this special day in which X fans worldwide are celebrating his indelible contributions to the culture.

Furthermore, folks within the rap game have often looked back at his days working amongst the greats… even if some of it was contentious. For example, Styles P recently recalled how DMX dissed Ja Rule on his 1998 cut, “We Don’t Give A F**k.” “The song was about Ja,” he told The Breakfast Club. “You didn’t know that? X and Ja having beef. They was dogs. He’s in it, I’m in it with him. Y’all had to know that! Listen to the lyrics!”

DMX’s Son Honors His Father On The Piano: Watch

Meanwhile, Swizz Beatz recently recounted how he and DMX crafted “Party Up.” “It worked for DMX one time with ‘Party Up,’” he told Rema in a Rolling Stone-hosted talk. “But if you listen to [it], he does everything against the track. Like, you could tell he didn’t want to do the song. But I forced him because we was on a deadline.” Still, they ended up creating what the producer called the “biggest song [they] ever made,” and an iconic rap song to get down to.

In other news, there’s also plenty of good times that the New York legend’s family have had with these figures. For one, Swizz Beatz and his family linked up with some of the late MC’s children for a vacation together, the footage of which was heartwarming. As long as hip-hop is alive, he will be one of its most celebrated and impactful figures. For more news and the latest updates on the Divine Master of the Unknown, check back in with HNHH.
Rest In Peace DMX.
