Earthgang And Wale Welcome Coi Leray For A Boastful Remix Of ‘Options’

Earthgang has been patiently waiting for a while now to get the ball rolling for their upcoming sophomore album, Ghetto Gods. After a bit of a wait, it appears that the Dreamville duo is now in full rollout mode for the project. Their latest release isn’t a brand new single, but rather, a remix of a past track that definitely deserved more love than it got. Earthgang recruits Coi Leray for a fresh take of “Options,” a track that also carries a verse from Wale. The new version begins with Leray crooning through a verse focused on her options in the dating world while the rap duo provides new verses for listeners to enjoy.

Johnny Venus of Earthgang previously spoke about the underwhelming success of “Options” on their most recent track, “Aretha.” “‘Options‘ dropped, barely made a sound, damn / I guess we let Nas and Cole down,” he said. The new remix joins a string of recent releases that will hopefully bring us to the release of Ghetto Gods. In addition to the “Options” remix and “Aretha,” Earthgang also shared a remix of Drake’s “Lemon Pepper Freestyle.”

Coi Leray has also been active lately. She recently dropped her third single of the year with “Bout Me” and shortly after, she joined DDG and OG Parker for “Impatient.”

Flo Milli Fans Are Convinced She Was Snubbed By The BET Awards

Flo Milli, the breakthrough Alabama artist who put the early half of the quarantine in a chokehold with her fan-favorite mixtape Ho, Why Is You Here?, is nowhere to be found on the list of nominees for the 2021 BET Awards — and now, fans want answers. While the Best Female Hip Hop artist nominees include shoo-ins Cardi B, Coi Leray, Doja Cat, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie, Flo Milli’s name climbed into Twitter’s top trending topics as many wondered why she wasn’t nominated herself after dropping beloved singles like “Weak” and “Send The Addy” and featuring on Yung Baby Tate’s viral hit “I Am.” She was, however, nominated for Best New Artist.

Some fans complained that Flo Mili’s absence — as well as those of names like Chika, Tierra Whack, and Yung Baby Tate — constituted colorism on BET’s part. “If Flo Milli was yellow, then she’d be on the list,” asserted one fan. Another grouped Chika and Tierra Whack with Flo Milli, asking, “Wtf is going on???”

“Flo Milli didn’t rebrand the entire state of Alabama to get snubbed like this,” one fan said. However, another pointed out the lack of statistical support for claims of the Mobilian’s popularity. “Everyone in the quotes acting confused on why Flo Milli not nominated when y’all don’t even support her offline,” they wrote. “Her mixtape peaked at #78 and none of her singles charted. Y’all need to stop showing fake love because she is talented.”

And while much of the outcry focused on Coi Leray’s two 2021 singles blowing up, they seemed to overlook her 2020 EP Now or Never, which was supported by a number of well-received singles, and the three years of foundation building she’d done with appearances on the Spider-Verse soundtrack and breakout single “Huddy.”

Of course, invested fans can spot a snub for any given award show and this isn’t even the first time that BET has been called out in this particular field. In 2017, Dreezy called out the BET Awards for including multiple women who hadn’t even released projects in the prior year, so while there’s no pleasing everybody, there’s at least been a tremendous amount of progress made in the years since. And hey, there’s always next year.

Coi Leray Goes On A Skate Date With DDG And OG Parker In Their Slick ‘Impatient’ Video

Two emerging talents join forces in the skating rink-set video for DDG and OG Parker’s “Impatient” video, as the rapper-producer team links up with “No More Parties” viral virtuoso Coi Leray for a slick, nostalgic clip that brings to mind the roller resurgence of the mid-2000s. Shot by Reel Goats, the video opens on a sweeping shot of the roller rink exterior straight out of ATL, as young people gather and socialize outside before heading inside for some blacklight-washed laps around the rink.

Coi Leray plays an attention-grabbing newcomer who joins DDG on the parquet for a couple’s skate as they perform their respective verses. They also shoot a dance video off the skate floor, turning the video into a quasi-TikTok post and setting the song up for potential viral hit status, should the dance catch on.

Both artists know a bit about that: Coi’s last two big singles started out as favorites on the youth-focused app; while “No More Parties” brought her mainstream acclaim, the Pooh Shiesty-featuring “Big Purr” turned its title into a social media catchphrase. Additionally, Coi co-stars in the video for another TikTok hit, Mooski’s “Track Star.” Meanwhile, DDG’s “Moonwalking In Calabasas” likewise backs a number of videos while racking up millions of views in various incarnations on YouTube.

Coi Leray Wonders Why He Haters Are Talking All ‘Bout Me’ On Latest Single

Nowadays, it’s hard to move through social media or dig through a list of today’s most popular acts without running into Coi Leray’s name. After years of working on her craft, the 23-year-old New Jersey rapper is finally relishing her moment under the spotlight. While her rise is certainly one to take notice of, it isn’t a sign for Leray to take her foot off the gas, something the young act is aware of as she returns with her new single, “Bout Me.”

On it, she questions why she’s the focus of haters. Leray makes it clear that they won’t learn much about her by watching the rapper’s every move, so paying extra attention to her is practically pointless. The new track will hopefully extend what’s been a career-making year for Leray. It first began with the release of “No More Parties,” a track that quickly gained popularity on TikTok thanks to a snippet she shared before the track was officially released. A further boost was provided when Lil Durk remixed the song and joined Leray for the track’s music video. Looking to continue her streak, she returned to social media to tease her next track, “Big Purr (Prrd),” with Pooh Shiesty, and once again, it proved to be a successful effort for Leray after the track was released.

Coi Leray Takes Down Pooh Shiesty And Other Enemies In Their Video For ‘Big Purr (Prrdd)’

Coi Leray’s 2021 is off to a fantastic start. Her year began with “No More Parties,” a track that caught fire on TikTok and was further elevated thanks to a remix with Lil Durk. What followed was a second successful single in “Big Purr (Prrd)” with Pooh Shiesty. Just like “No More Parties,” Leray’s latest single received a nice boost from social media.

Now, more than a month after the song’s release, the duo returns with a new video for the track. In it, Leray is seemingly tasked with recovering a diamond that Shiesty holds in his possession, a mission that required her to take down a number of Shiesty’s associates before she reaches him to retrieve the jewel.

The new release comes after Leray made her television debut with a performance of “No More Parties” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. It’s a moment that arrived after a string of solid projects the 23-year-old New Jersey rapper has shared over the years. Between her Everythingcoz and EC2 mixtapes as well as her Now Or Never EP, all of which influenced her selection in Uproxx’s “Rappers To Watch Out For In 2021,” Leray’s moment in the spotlight is well-deserved to say at the very least.
