Coi Leray Teases Twerk-Filled “Bops” Music Video Coming Soon

Coi Leray season is only just beginning, but already, the 25-year-old has impressed us with her plans for the future. Earlier this week, she confirmed that her follow-up to last year’s Trendsetter album is officially on the way, following the arrival of singles like “Players,” “My Body,” and “Bops” earlier this year. The project is titled COI, and while we don’t know who she’ll be collaborating with this time around, we did see her channel Lil’ Kim in what appears to be the cover photo for the upcoming release.

Upon confirming that the album will arrive on June 23, Leray also previewed another title from the tracklist, “Make My Day.” On this, she samples a throwback classic, “Pump Up The Jam,” which has earned her some backlash online. Regardless of what the critics have to say, the Boston baddie seems more confident than ever in the body of work she’s about to put out. On Friday (May 19), Coi took some time to answer fan questions on Twitter, many of which were about accompanying visuals for her latest singles.

Coi Leray Gives an Update on “Bops” Visual

“I love this! So excited! Now where is the [music video] for ‘Bops,’ Miss Leray?” one user asked in response to the “TWINNEM” hitmaker’s album announcement. Rather than just verbally promising that it’s on the way, Coi provided a photo of her on set, proving that there’s sure to be plenty of twerking (as she’s become known for) as she bends over in a pair of booty shorts for the camera to capture.

Apart from preparing to drop her sophomore project in little more than a month, the fashionista also took to the stage at Montreal’s Metro Metro festival on Friday afternoon, at which time the crowd was happily jumping along to some of her biggest hits. Coi Leray Shrugs Off Backlash For “Pump Up The Jam” Sample

On May 19, Coi Leray shared a brief snippet of her upcoming song “Make My Day”, which appear on her new album, COI. The song, and the snippet, include Leray sampling of the Technotronic classic, “Pump Up The Jam”. The 1989 hit, which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, also provides the name for Leray’s hit.

However, Leray’s teaser was not well received. “They need to clean the beginning of the track up,” wrote one user. “It’s actually not that bad but the beginning is horrible it sounds like your [sic] doing karaoke and you can’t keep up with the verse on the screen,” added another. Meanwhile, on Twitter, one user went for the jugular. “Coi leray is going to be the reason people go back to original production or just small referencing. she’s over saturating the market with these shameless samples and attempts to climb the charts.” Leray has now responded to the backlash.

Leray Hits Back At Haters

In response to the criticism, Leray took to Twitter. “Bops doesn’t have a sample 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 keep streaming BOPS OUT NOW 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 no more parties didn’t have a sample , Twinnem no sample , big purr no sample… but when I do a sample I BODYYYYY THAT MF !!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪😽😽😽😽🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️.” However, despite Leray’s confidence, the reaction across social media was overwhelmingly negative. Interestingly, Leray’s biggest success so far has actually come from a song featuring a sample.

Leray broke into the Billboard Top 10 for the first time earlier this year when “Players” peaked at #9. The song featured a sample from another classic song. This time, it was 1982’s “The Message” from Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. In fact, Grandmaster Flash personally endorsed Leray’s usage of the song. “When I got a call saying this girl wanted to resurrect the beat of a song from my past – I wanted to learn more,” he wrote on Instagram. “Then when I spoke with & met @coileray, I TOTALLY got it.” What do you think about Leray’s sample of “Pump Up The Jam”? Are you excited for COI? Let us know in the comments.

Coi Leray Confirms Sophomore Album, “COI,” With Topless Photos, Also Teases “Make My Day” Single

With her debut album, Trendsetter, Coi Leray made a solid impression last year. Across 20 tracks, she connected with the likes of Nicki Minaj, NAV, G Herbo, and Lil Durk, among many more, while also showing range throughout solo efforts such as “Heartbreak Kid” and “Lonely Fans.” After its first week out, the Boston baddie’s numbers came in at 11.5K album equivalent units sold, which is far lower than some anticipated considering the superstar collaborators she had the pleasure of working with.

Regardless, Leray has soldiered on, continuing to share exciting new singles and serve up scantily clad-looks in the months since. After teasing fans with a trio of titles so far this year – “Players,” “My Body,” and “Bops,” – the 26-year-old has, more recently, been hinting at the impending arrival of her sophomore project. She shared a pantsless photo dump on Instagram earlier this week while providing fans with an album update, and today (May 19), the fashionista confirmed exactly when it will arrive.

COI is Coming

Much like her debut, what appears to be the cover art shows Leray posing in a promiscuous position, hiding her bare chest with a massive chain and her hand. The few pieces of clothing she is wearing are all bright blue in colour, and her shiny black hair is styled in a blunt bob. “Introducing ‘COI,’ my second album. Dropping June 23,” the “Anxiety” artist confirmed in her caption, causing plenty of excitement to begin buzzing among fans.

Along with the big news, she also gave the world an early preview of what she says is “one of [her] favourite songs” from the upcoming project. As Billboard notes, it’s sure to be an internet hit, as it samples 1989’s “Pump up the Jam” by Technotronic, following her recent trend of paying tribute to old classics.

Coi Leray Is Ready For A New Season With The Announcement Of Her Sophomore Album, ‘Coi’

Coi Leray‘s a little over a year removed from the release of her debut album Trendsetter. Since then, her profile has grown by leaps and bounds, with her Grandmaster Flash-sampling single “Players” landing in the top 10 of the Hot 100 and soundtracking the upcoming WNBA season.

She’s as popular now as she’s ever been, so the time is ripe for a new album, which she announced today on social media. Titled Coi, the album’s due on June 23 via Uptown Records and Republic, with features from David Guetta, Giggs, Lola Brooke, Saucy Santana, and Skillibeng. Her more recent singles, “Bops” and “My Body,” will also appear among the new album’s 15 tracks, which will run the gamut of genres from rap, rock, pop, reggae, and even dance, according to the press release. Check out the cover art below.

Coi’s been a hot topic of discussion lately, thanks in part to a mention from Latto’s new single “Put It On Da Floor.” After Coi took issue to having her name mentioned in the lyrics, she received a good-natured shout-out from Latto during the Atlanta rapper’s performance at Coachella. This not only ended their “beef,” but established that they appear to be on good terms. Still, that didn’t stop some fans — you know the ones — from speculating that the two rappers had gotten into a fistfight, although that rumor was quickly debunked. As they say, all publicity is good publicity, and Ms. Leray will have plenty heading into the roll out of her new album, which should out-sell her debut now that she’s got some momentum.

Coi is due 6/23 via Uptown and Republic. You can get more info here.

Coi Leray Works On Her Curves In A Waist Trainer, Poses Without Pants While Giving Album Update

2023 has already been a rollercoaster ride for Coi Leray, but she’s still got plenty in store for the final six months of the year. Things have been mostly positive thanks to the success of singles like “Players,” and more recently, “My Body” and “Bops.” Of course, there have been bouts of drama with other rap stars, such as her social media feud with Latto, which ultimately resulted in the 25-year-old popping off in a rant during her Something In The Water Festival set. Regardless of the lows, Leray has kept her head held high, and is clearly looking forward to the future.

It’s been little more than a year since she made her LP debut with Trendsetter, on which she connected with plenty of guests, including Nicki Minaj, Lil Durk, and Yung Bleu, across an impressive 20 tracks. According to her latest Instagram post, it might not be long until the arrival of the Boston baddie’s sophomore effort. At this time, it remains unclear who – if anyone – she plans to collaborate with on that.

On her top half, the “Anxiety” artist wears a pastel purple and blue off-the-shoulder top, which barely hides her chest. Coi Leray Says The WNBA Is ‘More Than A Game’ In A New Season Preview

When Coi Leray dropped her new single “Players,” it occurred to several observers that it’d be the perfect tune for a partnership with the WNBA. Well, those observers were clearly onto something, as the song appears in a new preview for the 2023 season. Coi also appears via voiceover to detail all the ways the WNBA is “more than a game.”

“This league is a sisterhood,” she asserts. “It’s way more than just a game; it’s an empire — a fearless empire. More sideswiping steals: Check. We got hoops, drive, and passion. Easy! More buckets, extra sauce? Order up! More dimension-defying dimes, more dancing than a Saturday night — now this is what I call primetime.” As she speaks, highlights from past seasons of WNBA action play out with incredible VFX.

While “Players” has been a success for Coi, with multiple remixes including one featuring Busta Rhymes, the New Jersey rapper has continued to roll out new music, including the singles “Bops” and “My Body.” While she said the music industry is oversaturated, she’s clearly not afraid to mix it up, making sure she has plenty of opportunities to stand out.

Meanwhile, the WNBA is set for one of its biggest seasons to date after an exciting draft packed with college superstars (and a thrilling NCAA championship tournament that proved the power of women’s hoops) and a new television deal. A wild offseason saw some big names change cities and make splashy headlines, so more eyes than ever will be on the ever-growing league.

Coi Leray Confidently Discusses The ‘Over-Saturated’ Music Industry And Haters Of Her TikTok Popularity

Coi Leray took to Twitter this week to share her thoughts on the current music industry, which were basically that there are too many artists and hits now. With the rise of social media and TikTok especially, songs from rising artists are way more likely to become big sensations.

“The music industry is over saturated. Every song is a hit. Everybody is a star,” Leray wrote.

This led to someone pointing out that Leray’s dad is Benzino, so she might benefit from that saturation. She didn’t seem to think it was true, responding with just how much work she puts into the business: “Y’all buggen. My versatility, my stage presence . My stats. My collabs. My Brand Deals. Fashion Girl. I can dance. Sing. Rap. It’s fine if you don’t see it now. I’m in no rush for you to notice.”

“lol I’m that girl. Real life. Offline. In the booth. On the stage. On the red carpet. On the radio. Overseas. And that’s just what it is. Shout out to my b*tches who stay true to them selves and dgaf what nobody has to say!” she added in a separate tweet.

Some also replied back with thoughts about Leray’s oversaturation post, as her popularity skyrocketed through her songs going viral on TikTok. But she has a shot for that too. “How many people on TikTok went top 10 gobal? How many on TikTok had the amount of success I had with NMP , TWINNEM, BIG PURR, DDG IMPATIENT , plus soooo many more,” she quoted.
