Snoop Dogg Explains Independence Day To Boosie Badazz

Boosie Badazz faced a bit of backlash after celebrating the 4th of July. The Louisiana rapper took to Instagram on Wednesday morning mid-haircut to ask his followers to educate him on the federal holiday. Although it’s commemorated as the day when America became an independent nation and adopted the Declaration of Independence. However, there’s a complicated history behind the holiday for Black Americans. While the 13 colonies gained freedom from the British Colony in 1776, Black Americans were still enslaved and weren’t free until 1863, which many commemorate with Juneteenth.

However, Boosie didn’t necessarily realize the history behind the holiday. “Aye, I need somebody to educate me on July 4th,” he said. “Everybody in my DM saying I should not celebrate Fourth of July if I love my Black people. But I don’t really know the meaning of Fourth of July. I always thought it was some war shit. I need to be educated on the Fourth of July, bro. Because I’ve been celebrating the Fourth of July in the hood with fireworks since I was born. If I’m celebrating some wrong shit, I need to be educated.”

Snoop Dogg Educates Boosie Badazz On 4th Of July

Boosie captioned his post, “HOW IM A [SELL] OUT? I ACTUALLY DONT KNOW‼ ALL I KNOW IS FIREWORKS.” However, Snoop Dogg came into the comment section to provide a brief history lesson for Boosie Badazz. “It’s ya oppresses freedom celebration we weren’t free yet and that’s why call me Nefew I’ll game u up,” Snoop Dogg wrote in the comment section. He added, “Juneteenth is our holiday of last free slaves.”

Boosie Badazz wasn’t the only rapper who celebrated 4th Of July. Michael Rubin hosted his annual party in the Hamptons where hip-hop’s A-Listers joined in on the festivities. Jay-Z and Beyonce attended, along with Meek Mill, Lil Baby, and more. Additionally, Kim Kardashian, Lori Harvey, and more also came through to party at Rubin’s event. Boosie didn’t necessarily have the same level of star-studded guests but he certainly enjoyed his time with his family.

Chloe Bailey Shows Off Her Tina Turner-Inspired Juneteenth Fit

Over the weekend, Chloe Bailey joined Nelly at CNN’s Juneteenth Celebration. The pair teamed up to perform Nelly’s duet “Dilemma” with videos of the performance going viral afterward. Despite some people’s reservations about Chloe’s performance one thing everyone seemed to love was her outfit. Today she dropped an Instagram post showing off the multiple pictures of her outfit and videos of the event.

The fit wasn’t the only part of her post paying tribute to Tina Turner. The perfectly placed caption reads “what’s love got to do with it?” paying tribute to one of the singer’s most well-known tunes. As fans digested videos of her performance with Nelly last night some took issue with Chloe’s apparent over-singing. Viewers left comments like “Kelly wasn’t free? bc this wasn’t the time for all that extra opera singing.” That one in particular references Kelly Rowland, the original singer alongside Nelly in the song Chloe stepped in to perform.

Chloe Bailey Shows Off Tina Tribute Outfit

In March of this year, Chloe dropped her first solo album In Pieces. The record sported features from Chris Brown, Missy Elliott, and Future but largely received mixed reviews from critics. Many pointed out the similarities between Chloe’s sound and that of her mentor Beyonce. Fans also had plenty to say when the record only sold $10k in its first week and only managed to debut at #119 on the Billboard 200. The album followed three previous albums she made with her sister Halle as a part of their Halle x Chloe duo. Halle has kept pretty busy herself taking on the starring role in Disney’s new live-action The Little Mermaid reboot.

Last month Chloe Bailey appeared on The Jason Lee Show. During the podcast, she talked about multiple hot topics fans were curious about. Those topics included her debut album, her relationship to Gunna, and Beyonce’s influence over her work. She also just recently finished the final leg of her In Pieces tour playing her debut album. It was her first-ever headlining tour as a solo artist. What do you think of Chloe’s Tina Turned-inspired Juneteenth outfit? Let us know in the comment section below.

Chloe Bailey Honors Tina Turner On Juneteenth

Chloe Bailey of Chloe x Halle fame was one of the artists who graced the stage on Monday for CNN’s Juneteenth Celebration. During her set, she paid tribute to one of the legends we lost recently, Tina Turner. Chloe performed a stunning rendition of “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and the fans erupted into supportive cheering. “Rest in power to the great Tina Turner,” Chloe said with arms outstretched. “This one’s for you. I love you.”

The 24-year-old singer-songwriter was performing without her sister and duo counterpart, Halle Bailey, who is no doubt still doing plenty of press for her The Little Mermaid remake. While Halle plays Ariel, Chloe Bailey channeled her inner Turner with a red-and-gold dress with long fringes on the arms. And despite not being an exact replica of the late great singer — many fans picked up on too much vibrato from Bailey, even asking for Kelly Rowland to do the tribute instead — she still rocked the stage at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

Chloe Bailey — And More — Pay Respect To A Queen

CNN’s “Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom” was a major platform to show the world how much the music industry loved Tina Turner. Not only did Chloe Bailey headline the tribute, but Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke at the event, talking about the “ongoing fight” for freedom. Other musical artists who performed included Miguel, Nelly, Charlie Wilson, Kirk Franklin, and Mike Phillips. Questlove and Adam Blackstone were the musical directors behind the show. Chloe Bailey and Nelly performed “Dilemma” together as well.

Chloe Bailey is just one of many musicians devastated by the loss of a generational talent. Tina Turner passed away in late May at the age of 83. Her contributions to the music world will never be forgotten. This show is a testament to that. For Chloe, this was a chance to showcase her vocal range. Taking on one of the greatest’s songs is difficult as it is. However, she provided the same confidence Tina would have had, making this Juneteenth celebration one for the record books.

Chloe Bailey And Nelly Perform Together At Juneteenth Show

Yesterday, CNN celebrated Juneteenth and their festivities had some high-profile guests involved. Nelly was there to perform his song “Dilemma” which was originally a duet with Kelly Rowland. In place of Rowland, Chloe Bailey stepped up and took the stage alongside Nelly. The pair took the stage at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles last night with the help of a live band.

When videos of the performance made it to the internet, fans were divided. Many pointed out that Chloe Bailey may have overdone her performance on the track. Comments under a repost of the video included quotes like “Kelly wasn’t free? bc this wasn’t the time for all that extra opera singing.” Other commenters came to Chloe’s defense saying her style of singing paid tribute to classic black vocalists. “She sounds fine people need to check the hate at the door. This was black music celebration and she is paying tribute leave her tf alone,” one commenter said.

Chloe’s Controversial Singing

Earlier this year, Chloe Bailey dropped her first solo album. The project sports high-profile features from both R&B and hip-hop including Chris Brown, Missy Elliott, and Future. The project drew some ire from various critics for sounding extremely similar to Beyonce. Fans on social media also had a bit of a field day when the album only sold 10k in its first week. That was enough sales for a #119 debut on the Billboard 200. It comes after she released three albums as a duo alongside her sister in Chloe x Halle.

Last month Chloe Bailey appeared on The Jason Lee Show. During the podcast, she talked about a number of things fans were interested in hearing. Topics included her debut album, her relationship to Gunna, and Beyonce’s influence over her work. She also just recently finished the final leg of her In Pieces tour playing her debut album. It was her first-ever headlining tour as a solo artist. What do you think of Chloe’s singing during her Juneteenth performance with Nelly? Let us know in the comment section below.

Jazmine Sullivan Set Canceled At Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival After Stampedes

Many in Los Angeles were excited to see Jazmine Sullivan and other performers like Wale and Too $hort for the Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival hosted by Amazon Music Live. However, when it came to the R&B star’s set in particular, something happened that made them cancel it. It’s unclear what it was at the moment, as this is a developing story. Still, testimonies on social media indicate that multiple crowd stampedes caused disruption at the festival and prompted either Jazmine, her team, or organizers to call things off. Some were unaware of what happened while attending, while others said that a shooting went down.

In addition, many who were watching the performances via livestream expressed confusion online, as Amazon Music apparently simply said that the event was over. Of course, given the early nature of this news and reports, take these with a grain of salt as more information emerges. Regardless, fan testimonies are particularly scary to hear, as it seemed like a potentially dangerous development in what was otherwise a beautiful and joyous celebration. Fans of the acclaimed singer who weren’t present gave their complaints, but the focus quickly shifted to people on the ground.

Jazmine Sullivan’s Message To Fans After Show Cancellation

Jazmine Sullivan Leimert Park Juneteenth

In fact, Jazmine Sullivan herself came through with a message for fans on her Instagram Story. “I hope everyone made it home to their loved ones tonight!” the 36-year-old Heaux Tales star wrote. “I’m so disappointed we couldn’t come together and celebrate Juneteenth! If you’re still at the park please leave. The show is cancelled,” she concluded with a crying emoji. While she didn’t hint at the reason behind the cancellation, the fact she expressed hope that everyone got home safe confirms what fans are saying online.

On that note, some fans gave testimonies of there being a shooting that caused these stampedes, while other news outlets don’t mention it. In fact, others online are calling it misinformation and stating that there was poor crowd control and two shoving incidents. No matter what happened, hopefully everyone made it home safe. Beyonce Honors Black Designers For Juneteenth, Fans React

Beyonce is easily one of the biggest artists in the entire world. Overall, she is one of the best-selling artists of our generation. Moreover, she has won a whole slew of Grammys, and she continues to rack up accolades. Now, she is currently on the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR which is currently overseas. Over the weekend, Beyonce did two shows in Amsterdam which is located in the Netherlands. Both of these shows were immense as she showed off a plethora of incredible outfits that had social media very excited.

As it turns out, every single one of these outfits was from black designers. Unfortunately, black designers have been under-represented in the fashion industry for a very long time. However, Beyonce and others are trying to make sure that this is no longer the case. The megastar even took to Instagram last night, where she subsequently revealed that her collaborations with black designers were for Juneteenth. Juneteenth takes place today, and Beyonce wanted to take the occasion to celebrate black fashion and design.

Beyonce Takes To Amsterdam

“In honor of Juneteenth, everything I wore for RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR tonight was created exclusively by Black designers,” she wrote on the social media platform. Although this was an amazing idea, Beyonce is catching some flack for it. This is due to the fact that she didn’t tag the designers in the post. While the outfits are incredible, her fans still don’t know who designed these garments. “But I’m confused why you didn’t write the designers or at least tag them, our social media manager is not doing their due diligence with this one queen,” one person wrote. “Why aren’t they tagged?” asked another.

Hopefully, the artist revises her post and gives these designers their proper shoutouts. After all, Beyonce looked amazing, and a lot of it had to do with these stunning fashion pieces. Let us know what you thought of the looks, down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for more news from around the music world.

Major League Soccer Celebrates Juneteenth with ‘The Seeds We Plant. The Flowers We Share’ Initiative

Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced its annual Juneteenth initiative for 2023, titled “The Seeds We Plant. The Flowers We Share.” Inspired by the artwork of renowned Black artist Gianni Lee, the initiative aims to commemorate Juneteenth and highlight the significant contributions of Black Americans.

The Juneteenth programs are a collaborative effort between MLS, clubs, and Black Players for Change (BPC), an independent organization comprising Black MLS players, coaches, and staff dedicated to promoting racial equality in soccer and society.

MLS and BPC partnered with acclaimed photographer and founder of Charcoal Pitch F.C., Mel D. Cole, to bring the initiative to life. Cole, serving as the creative lead for the Juneteenth campaign, enlisted the talents of Gianni Lee to design the collectible jerseys for 2023, centered around the theme of “The Seeds We Plant. The Flowers We Share.”

A total of 29 unique jerseys representing each MLS club will be autographed by players and auctioned off. The funds raised from the auctions will be donated to organizations positively impacting the Black community in each club’s local market. A commemorative patch has also been created to complement the collectible jerseys, symbolizing unity and solidarity.

Fans eager to support the cause will have the opportunity to bid on the collectible jerseys at MLSauctions.com. Moreover, patches and numbers can be purchased through the Black Players For Change website, allowing fans to further engage with and contribute to the initiative.

“Juneteenth is a holiday that gives us a chance to reflect on our history, and appreciate the progress we have made,” said Earl Edwards Jr., President, Black Players For Change. “Black Players for Change was established to generate change within the MLS, and it’s local communities. Since our inception, we have been working closely with MLS toaccomplish our goals, and the Juneteenth jersey is another example of the incredible work we have been able to do together. With the addition of Mel D. Cole, and Gianni Lee, to this year’s collaboration, we were able to take our Juneteenth celebrations to new heights and I look forward to fans seeing the final jersey.”

“When I was asked to partner up my agency Charcoal Pitch F.C with MLS for their 2023 Juneteenth campaign it was a no brainer for me,” said Mel D. Cole. “The values of Juneteenth and my agency go hand in hand; without being free there is no me! My agency tried hard to ensure that Black folks were truly represented throughout the entire process of this campaign; from getting super talented artist Gianni Lee on board toensuring that we hired people to work behind the scenes who not only are the best at their respected jobs but understood what Juneteenth meant to them and the world.”

“Storytelling is undeniably one of the most influential modes of communication. Just like seeds, stories have the ability to propagate and disseminate information in the absence of modern technology,” said Gianni Lee. “Collaborating with MLS I was solely dedicated to exploring that concept through a Soccer jersey. By incorporating my “blue hand” motif, I aimed to narrate the tale of African cultural unity in the diaspora and illustrate how it continues to flourish, akin to a plant, within the fabric of American society each passing day. “

Through “The Seeds We Plant. The Flowers We Share” initiative, MLS continues its commitment to raising awareness about Juneteenth and fostering positive change within the Black community, both on and off the soccer field.
