Rhino Announces 30th Anniversary Edition Of Tina Turner’s ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’

unnamed 26

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Tina Turner’s What’s Love Got To Do With It, a brand new suite of special edition albums are to be released on April 26. The 4CD/1DVD boxed set will include the original album remastered on CD1, with CD2 featuring a collection of edits, remixes and acapella. CD3 and CD4 features Turner’s live show at the Blockbuster Pavilion in 1993 remastered, which can also be watched on the DVD along with three music videos. The boxed set also includes a poster and a 24-page booklet. Additional album formats include a 1-LP and 2-CD and is available to stream digitally. Pre-order here.

Originally released on June 15, 1993, What’s Love Got To Do With It was a commercial and critical success. The album was the soundtrack for the Tina Turner biographical film of the same name and reached No.1 in the UK, also making the top 10 in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Canada, and the top 20 in the US. The album went on to be a platinum record across the world, including the US, UK and Switzerland. It was a collection of songs, some of which were re-recorded from Turner’s ‘Ike & Tina Turner’ period, including “A Fool In Love,” as well as five brand new songs, one of which – “I Don’t Wanna Fight” – became a top 10 hit in both the US and UK. The album also includes Turner’s version of The Trammps’ disco classic “Disco Inferno,” a song she had often performed live in concert in the late 70s but never previously recorded in the studio. Two tracks from her 1984 breakthrough solo album Private Dancer are also included – the title track and a different re-mixed version of “I Might Have Been Queen.”

Turner has sold over 200 million records and has had 10 UK top 10 hit singles and nine UK top 10 albums and was the first female artist to have a top 40 hit in six consecutive decades in the UK. Her albums combined are 20x platinum in the UK and 9x platinum in the US whilst also achieving huge sales throughout the rest of the world. She has won eight Grammy® Awards and has been nominated for 25. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame® in 1991 and has stars on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and St. Louis Walk of Fame. Her 1988 Break Every Rule tour broke the world record for the largest paying audience at a solo concert, with 184,000 at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro, and Rolling Stone Magazine named her No.17 on the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and No.63 on the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.

The Grammys In Memoriam Included A Tony Bennett Duet, A Call For Ceasefire, And A Stunning Tina Turner Tribute

The Grammys’ In Memoriam tribute for 2024 was necessarily a rough time, as so many legends passed away since early 2023, including Sinead O’Connor, Tina Turner, and more. The segment saw Stevie Wonder deliver a simulated duet of “For Once In My Life” with Tony Bennett, as well as “The Best Is Yet To Come.” Then Annie Lennox covered Sinead O’Connor’s Prince-penned “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

Fittingly, Lennox used the moment to call for a ceasefire in West Asia (commonly called the Middle East) in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palenstine over the Gaza Strip. It was a fitting moment because O’Connor notably used her platform to make passionate political statements, including criticizing the Catholic church. She took a lot of punishment from the media and the public for her positions, finding vindication years later.

Meanwhile, there were spoken tributes to Clarence Avant, the “Godfather of Black Music,” form Lenny Kravitz, and Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock & Roll, by Oprah Winfrey. Meanwhile, Jon Batiste performed Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “Optimistic” for the former, while Fantasia Barrino performed “Proud Mary” for the latter, decked out in a classic Turner look. Fantasia even left the stage to dance with the audience, including Dua Lipa.

Beyonce Won’t Perform At This Weekends Grammys, Despite Rumors

Beyonce fans just got some pretty disappointing news. All week, rumors have swirled that she could join the already announced cast of performers for this weekend’s Grammys. Foreign news agencies spread reports that Beyonce would be performing a tribute to the late Tina Turner. It sounds like the kind of thing that very well could happen given the Grammys history with tributing legendary figures in music and Beyonce’s continued critical and commercial success.

But earlier today the rumors were officially confirmed to be false. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to a representative for the “BREAK MY SOUL” hitmaker. They officially confirmed that the superstar will not be taking the Grammy stage this year. It comes just a few days after Taylor Swift went through a similar process. Following rumors that she could be performing during this year’s ceremony a representative officially confirmed that she isn’t. But fans hoping to watch the show will still get plenty of high-profile artists to watch. Burna Boy, 21 Savage, Luke Combs, Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Dua Lipa, Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlisle, Travis Scott, Olivia Rodrigo, SZA, and U2 are all set to take the stage.

Beyonce’s Tina Turner Grammy Tribute Rumors Aren’t True

Earlier this week, footage of Beyonce seemingly shooting a music video leaked online. The clip of her in front of a green screen reignited fan’s hope that her 2022 album Renaissance would eventually get some kind of visuals. Calls for visuals have been coming from fans for months and Bey has only really addressed it once. Last year, during a tour stop she told fans “you are the visuals” seemingly implying that they didn’t exist.

Many fans took her word for that but the newly leaked video has them reconsidering. Bey could always have been working on visuals for something else entirely. What do you think of rumors about Beyonce’s potential Grammy performance not being true? Whose performance are you most excited to see during this year’s show? Let us know in the comment section below.

Will Beyoncé Perform A Tina Turner Tribute At The Grammys?

The Grammys are rapidly approaching, and with the award show comes an opportunity to not only honor the standout acts of the years, but to also acknowledge the ones we lost. Last year, a true legend, Tina Turner, passed, leaving behind an indelible legacy which still resonates today in the works of artists like Beyoncé.

Perhaps that’s why the Grammys have selected Beyoncé to honor Tina Turner with a performance at this year’s awards. Beyoncé had already previously paid tribute to the late Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll during her Renaissance Tour last year, singing Turner’s 1966 song “River Deep – Mountain High.”

Beyoncé is not only a great choice because of the obvious Turner influences that run through her electrifying stage shows, but also because she is the most-awarded artist in Grammys history, bar none. Although many agree she was snubbed at the 2023 show for Album of the Year, she still surpassed every other name in the show’s history with her wins for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Best Dance Recording for “Break My Soul,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic Off The Sofa,” and Best R&B Song for “Cuff It”

This year’s awards are scheduled for Sunday, February 4 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Crypto.com Arena (aka Staples Center) in Los Angeles, California. Trevor Noah will once again host, and even more icons will receive Lifetime Achievement Awards, including the Clark Sisters, N.W.A., and Donna Summer.

Tina Turner’s saga began in the rhythm-and-blues clubs of the 1950s, where her unparalleled energy and vocal prowess quickly set her apart. Her partnership with Ike Turner was a catalyst for her initial fame, but her solo career cemented her status as a global icon. Albums like Private Dancer and Break Every Rule broke barriers and set records, earning her multiple Grammy Awards and the title “Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Turner’s music, infused with a spirit of defiance and liberation, resonates as a symbol of empowerment.

Patti LaBelle delivered a tribute to Tina Turner during the 2023 BET Awards, but there was one issue, she forgot some of the words.

During the live performance of “Simply The Best,” LaBelle forgot some of the words, stating she could not read the teleprompter that had them.

“Oh Lord…..what if I can’t see the words,” LaBelle said during the tribute. “I’m trying y’all!”

A BET spokesperson released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter after the show:

“It was an extraordinary privilege to celebrate the life and legacy of Ms. Tina Turner at BET Awards 2023. Having the incomparable Ms. Patti LaBelle on our stage honoring one of her contemporaries was an equal privilege. Due to the crowd’s enthusiasm, the teleprompter was obstructed, obscuring Ms. LaBelle’s view of the lyrics. Nonetheless, we couldn’t be more grateful to Ms. LaBelle for lending her incredible talent to this moment.”

Which is confirmed below.

Chloe Bailey Honors Tina Turner On Juneteenth

Chloe Bailey of Chloe x Halle fame was one of the artists who graced the stage on Monday for CNN’s Juneteenth Celebration. During her set, she paid tribute to one of the legends we lost recently, Tina Turner. Chloe performed a stunning rendition of “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and the fans erupted into supportive cheering. “Rest in power to the great Tina Turner,” Chloe said with arms outstretched. “This one’s for you. I love you.”

The 24-year-old singer-songwriter was performing without her sister and duo counterpart, Halle Bailey, who is no doubt still doing plenty of press for her The Little Mermaid remake. While Halle plays Ariel, Chloe Bailey channeled her inner Turner with a red-and-gold dress with long fringes on the arms. And despite not being an exact replica of the late great singer — many fans picked up on too much vibrato from Bailey, even asking for Kelly Rowland to do the tribute instead — she still rocked the stage at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

Chloe Bailey — And More — Pay Respect To A Queen

CNN’s “Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom” was a major platform to show the world how much the music industry loved Tina Turner. Not only did Chloe Bailey headline the tribute, but Vice President Kamala Harris also spoke at the event, talking about the “ongoing fight” for freedom. Other musical artists who performed included Miguel, Nelly, Charlie Wilson, Kirk Franklin, and Mike Phillips. Questlove and Adam Blackstone were the musical directors behind the show. Chloe Bailey and Nelly performed “Dilemma” together as well.

Chloe Bailey is just one of many musicians devastated by the loss of a generational talent. Tina Turner passed away in late May at the age of 83. Her contributions to the music world will never be forgotten. This show is a testament to that. For Chloe, this was a chance to showcase her vocal range. Taking on one of the greatest’s songs is difficult as it is. However, she provided the same confidence Tina would have had, making this Juneteenth celebration one for the record books.

Beyonce Performs “River Deep — Mountain High” In Tribute Of Tina Turner At London Concert

Over the past week, friends, fans, and peers have paid tribute to the late Tina Turner, who died on May 24th, 2023 at the age of 83. Turner’s understated impact opened the gates for musicians and artists of all backgrounds, including megastars like Beyonce Knowles. As Beyoncé hit the stage in London on Monday night, she stunned fans with an incredible tribute to the Queen Of Rock N’ Roll. During her performance, Bey delivered a rendition of Ike and Tina Turner’s 1966 collaborative hit, “River Deep – Mountain High.”

Bey’s stripped-down rendition of Ike and Tina’s hit left fans in tears. However, it wasn’t the first time Beyonce paid tribute since Tina’s tragic passing last week. During her concert in Paris last week, Beyoncé paused the show at the Stade De France to honor the icon. “I just want to take a second and honor Tina Turner,” she told the crowd. “If you’re a fan of mine, you’re a fan of Tina Turner. I wouldn’t be on this stage without Tina Turner, so I want you guys to just scream, so she can feel your love. I feel so blessed that I was allowed to witness her brilliance.”

Beyonce Honors Tina Turner

In addition to performing her tribute at Monday’s London concert and paying homage in Paris, Beyonce also penned a heartfelt tribute to Turner on her website. “My beloved queen. I love you endlessly,” Bey wrote. “I’m so grateful for your inspiration, and all the ways you have paved the way. You are strength and resilience. You are the epitome of power and passion. We are all so fortunate to have witnessed your kindness and beautiful spirit that will forever remain. Thank you for all you have done.

The two shared the stage on previous occasions, including at the 2008 Grammy Awards. The two stars performed “Proud Mary” together while three years prior, Bey dished a solo rendition of the record. We could imagine that Bey will continue to honor Tina Turner in different capacities throughout the Renaissance World Tour. Bey has three more nights in London before heading off to Barcelona.

Blue Ivy’s Second London Cameo

Along with her tribute to Tina Turner, Beyonce also brought out Blue Ivy for her second cameo during Renaissance’s five-night stay in London. Once again, Blue Ivy proves that she got it from her momma as she led the choreography. Check out a snippet of her appearance above.
