Chloe Lends A Sultry Verse To A ‘Shemix’ Of Capella Grey’s ‘Gyalis’

Over the past year, New York singer Capella Grey’s 2021 single “Gyalis” has become a slow-burning, fan-favorite hit, rising to No. 38 on the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving a Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

It doesn’t look like the song will run out of gas anytime soon; after rising star Chloe offered her own take on the song for Instagram, today, Grey officially added her verse to a sultry “shemix” of the hit single, adding a feminine perspective to Grey’s indecisive single.

Responding to the wishy-washy vibe of the song’s original verse, Chloe flips the script, noting that she too has plenty of options when it comes to romance. Rather than putting up with a reluctant, possibly unfaithful paramour, she dismisses his affections to return to the streets. “I ain’t the bitch that you can lie to,” she asserts. “I ain’t the bitch you gonna cry to.”

Chloe’s covers have been one of the main drivers behind her rise to solo stardom, as she takes on versions of songs like Kanye West’s “24,” Minnie Riperton’s “Loving You,” and more. When she’s not performing covers, she has been using her social media to preview new songs from her upcoming solo debut album, Chloe.

Chloe Is Letting The Fans Pick Her Next Single From Three Snippets She Teased On Social Media

Chloe is extremely tuned-in to social media. She’s used her Instagram to soft launch each of her solo singles and show off her impressive vocal chops. It’s clear that she takes social buzz into consideration before making moves — although that usually means those moves defy criticism rather than cater to it. Now, she’s kicking that engagement up a notch, asking fans to help her choose her next single.

During a recent live stream on Instagram, the flourishing R&B singer played snippets of three potential singles to get fans’ feedback. “I have all of this music and I don’t know which one I should do next,” she explained during an introduction. The three tracks, “For The Night,” “Suprise,” and “Cheat Back,” tapped into a more downtempo, R&B-focused groove than her previous singles, the club-ready “Have Mercy” and “Treat Me.”

While fans fought it out in the comments — with Chloe keeping a running tally, noting that most of the responses demanded “For The Night” and “Surprise” — Chloe also played two more snippets: a collaboration with 6lack called “Cry For Me” and a portion of her collaboration with Fivio Foreign, “Hello.” Although it didn’t seem that anything was resolved during the Live, we now do have a better idea of what Chloe’s self-titled debut sounds like — and a growing appetite for the full project and its release date. Check out the recording of the Live session below.

Chloe Confirms That Her Debut Solo Album Will Be Self-Titled

Ever since Chloe Bailey dropped the video for her bedeviling, bootylicious debut solo single, “Have Mercy,” fans have waited on tenterhooks for more information on the solo album that she promised was sure to follow. While details on the overall project had been scant until now, in a new interview with Allure, she confirms the title at last. As befits a solo album from a performer who was until recently part of a sister act, it’ll be titled Chloe. She also shared some details of the writing process, which she previously said was “90 percent done.”

Speaking on how her writing process — which began in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdowns — has changed, she said, “Music saved me. I was at a low moment where I felt lost — like I didn’t have any sense of who I was.” This was, she admitted, a result of separation anxiety as her sibling and musical partner, Halle, was in London to film Disney’s live-action reboot of The Little Mermaid and couldn’t return to the States due to COVID restrictions. “In the beginning, you can tell that [the person] who is singing is like a bird with broken wings. As time went on, you can hear me finding my strength and confidence. I didn’t want to lose that story as I pieced the [songs] together.”

Since then, she has released both “Have Mercy” and its follow-up, the equally erotic “Treat Me,” and said that the album was influenced by artists such as Imogen Heap and Kelis. Meanwhile, she’s remained busy; with at least four screen roles, including one in a project Donald Glover has been shooting for Amazon co-starring Snowfall‘s Damson Idris and Dominique Fishback from Judas And The Black Messiah. When Chloe will have time to also promote an album in all of this is beyond me but that’s why she’s the star and I’m just writing about her.

Fivio Foreign Just Wants A ‘Hello’ From The Love Interest In His New Video With Chloe And KayCyy

While drill rap is primarily known for its rugged tales of late-night shootouts and nods to New York’s apparently flourishing gang culture, occasionally it can be a little more down-to-earth. In Fivio Foreign’s video for “Hello,” from his debut album, B.I.B.L.E., he turns the drill sound downright romantic, requesting a little attention from a romantic interest alongside rising singers Chloe and KayCyy.

Naturally, each of the singers gets some screen time of their own as well, but the overall narrative remains fixed on FIvie and his pursuit of an attractive woman at a party. Meanwhile, Chloe’s verse traipses the line between deft rapping and mellifluous singing, and KayCyy ties things up with a bow at the end with a lilting, melodic rap.

B.I.B.L.E. debuted at No. 9 on the US Billboard 200 chart in April behind 29,000 album-equivalent units. Its release was fueled by lead single, “City of Gods,” which was produced by Kanye West and featured Alicia Keys, and peaked at No. 46 on the Hot 100. The album also included appearances from ASAP Rocky, Coi Leray, DJ Khaled, Lil Yachty, Lil Tjay, Polo G, Quavo, and more.

Chloe Shows Off Her Vocals And Presents A New Point Of View In Her Cover Of Capella Grey’s ‘Gyalis’

In addition to making her solo debut with the bouncy “Have Mercy,” Chloe Bailey’s 2021 year was filled with impressive covers of songs by a wide array of artists. She took on Adele’s “Easy On Me,” Silk Sonic’s “Leave The Door Open,” Cardi B’s “Be Careful, Rihanna’s “Love On The Brain,” Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good,” and Drake’s “Marvin’s Room.” Fresh off releasing her second single as a solo artist, that being the provocative “Treat Me,” Chloe has found time to treat her fans to another cover. This time she takes on Capella Grey’s 2021 summer hit “Gyalis.”

Chloe’s rendition of “Gyalis” is a bit more than a cover and she remixes the song a bit so that it can be sung from a female’s point of view. While the original song’s lyrics read, “Fake like she asleep / Swear she tried to stay the whole week / I’m like “Oh, nah, she gotta go”, uh / Ask me her name, I swear I don’t even f*ckin’ know,” Chloe gives her side in the matter on the cover.

“He’s tryna fake like he asleep / Thought I didn’t hear him come in, please,” Chloe sings. “I’m like, ‘Oh nah, he gotta go’ / See you again? Oh no, baby that’s not what I want.”

Capella Grey showed love towards Chloe’s cover of “Gyalis” by reposting the video on his own Instagram page.
