A Timeline Of The Beef Between Cardi B And BIA

2024 is clearly hip-hop’s year of beef. Ice Spice and Latto, Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, Drake and Kendrick Lamar — this year has so far been full of friction among some of rap’s top performers, and there are no signs as yet that rappers as a collective will find any fraction of chill anytime soon.

The latest acts to join the fracas are Cardi B and BIA, who spent the weekend trading shots in what appears to be the latest iteration of 2024’s Rap Beef-ocalypse. Here’s a timeline of their beef, so you can get caught up and explain to your friends, family, and co-workers just what the heck is going on.

July 2023: BIA Releases “Fallback”

Like most feuds in hip-hop, this one started off seemingly innocently enough. “Fallback” wouldn’t be considered a diss track by most — in fact, in the second verse, BIA specifically says, “I’m havin’ no beef, these bitches won’t say my name” — but in hindsight, it’s the song fans point to as the lit fuse for everything that came after.

March 2024: Cardi B Drops “Like What (Freestyle)”

Here’s where things begin to get spicy. Fans noticed that Cardi’s first single of 2024 interpolated Missy Elliott’s 1999 hit “She’s A Bitch” — the same song that BIA sampled on “Fallback.” Now, this wouldn’t normally be notable — lots of hip-hop songs sample the same classics (for instance, Bob James’ “Nautilus” is one of, if not the most-sampled song in hip-hop) — but for Twitter stans, this was tantamount to a declaration of war. Cardi’s combative rhymes on the track certainly helped the perception along for fans who look for hidden meaning in well-established hip-hop tropes.

However, where once upon a time, those conspiracy theories were confined to the insides of superfans’ heads, these days, those fans have direct access to the artists themselves. Alerted to the similarities between their songs, BIA subtweeted Cardi with a string of woozy face emojis. Cardi herself appeared to respond with a tweet of her own, writing, “Bitches make a fool of themselves every single time.”

May 2024: Cardi B Appears To Directly Diss BIA On GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be” Remix

Cardi seemingly delivered on her promise to “show ya something when I release this song” on the remix of her frequent collaborators GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion’s new single “Wanna Be.”

“Guess I’m a teacher since you wanna sub me / She did what? Had no idea / Thought she was on the shelf, Ikea / Hope she talk like that when I see her / B*tch, please, don’t nobody wanna be ya,” Cardi rhymes in her verse, with the final two words strong resembling the pronunciation of BIA’s name. Meanwhile, her reference to being “on the shelf” seemingly takes a dig at BIA’s relative lack of chart success since her breakout 2020 single “Whole Lotta Money,” which was a viral hit on TikTok and climbed to the No. 16 on the Hot 100. Since then, only “London” with J. Cole has reached the Hot 100, peaking at No. 62.

June 2024: BIA Claps Back With “Sue Meee”

Absolutely no ambiguity here. BIA goes in on Cardi in her new track released on Sunday. In the song, BIA accuses Cardi of the usual shortcomings (seriously, can y’all find some new stuff to talk about? YAWN.), including the rumors that she and her husband Offset spent the duration of their marriage cheating on each other and that she uses ghostwriters. “Do I beef with you or do I beef with Pardi?” she taunts on the song-ending bridge. “You been scrapping projects since 2019.”

The song’s title, meanwhile, came from an Instagram Live stream in which Cardi threatened legal action against BIA for insinuating she’d ripped off “Fallback” for “Like What.” In the caption of an Instagram post teasing the track, though, BIA wrote, “Sue me? That’s not hip hop 😂.”

We’ll see if Cardi responds either way; she noted after her confrontation with Nicki Minaj in 2019 that beef is “bad for business.” But if it inspires her to finally get around to dropping that long-awaited follow-up to Invasion Of Privacy, I can’t say it’d be completely bad.

What Did BIA Say About Cardi B On Her Diss Song ‘Sue Meee?’

The next track-for-track rap beef is on the grill. Cardi B and BIA’s once subtle online dust ups have now become full-on diss records.

On May 31, Cardi B took the first direct shots on GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be” remix. Today (June 2), after teasing a snippet on Instagram Live, BIA dropped the official audio to her response record, “Sue Meee?,” despite Cardi B’s threat of legal action.

So, what exactly did BIA say on the record? Continue below for more information.

What Did BIA Say About Cardi B On Her Diss Song “Sue Meee?”

Before BIA even rapped, she subtly shaded Cardi with stock audio, referring to Cardi B previously recording and sharing private telephone conversations online, reportedly including their exchange.

In the record’s opening, BIA, claimed that Cardi cheated on her husband Offset, speculated about her alleged gang affiliation, and subtly mentioned her best friend Star Brim.

“You a f*ck girl I see right through yah / Put it on your gang that they didn’t f*ck you in / Put it on your name since you so gangsta like your f*cking friends / Put it on your hubby since you love lying on your f*cking vows / I write all my verses I can do this sh*t for hours”

Then, BIA clowned Cardi for staying with her husband after he supposedly had sex with another woman in their shared home. She also attempted to poked fun at Cardi for allegedly out earning Offset.

“I’ll be damned if I let a n**** f*ck a b*tch inside my house / Your money long and you split that / Your n**** saying, ‘That’s ours’”

Next, BIA take aim at Cardi’s past cosmetic procedures and self-esteem while naming dropping her children, daughter Kulture and son Wave (who she shares with Offset).

“Put it on God that you ain’t change your face to mine / I’ll get on your ass hoe I don’t have to waste no time / Say you love yourself, but you won’t put that on your kids / All that surgery and how your body look so mid / Thought your ass was for the culture (Kulture) / You just trying to ride the wave (Wave) / You should be home with your kids ’cause you speak like second grade”

Lastly, she referenced Cardi B using outside songwriters such as Pardison Fontaine to allegedly write her biggest records.

“C-A-R-D, cry on IG / Catch another ‘tude ’cause she couldn’t catch a beat / Do I beef with you are beef with Pardi (Pardison Fontaine) / You been scrapping projects since 2019 / Weak ass b*tch

BIA Disses Cardi B On New Single “SUE MEEE?”

2024 might be the year of rap beef when we look back at it, something that BIA is aiming to prove with her latest release. Moreover, she just dropped a diss track against Cardi B titled, “SUE MEEE?,” whose title refers to how Cardi threatened to sue the Massachusetts MC for spreading rumors that she cheated on her partner Offset when she previewed the diss. While it’s reductive to compare this to the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef, the instrumental sounds too much like the one on “Like That” to avoid this connection for too long. Fortunately, thanks to fiery flows, a coolly confident delivery, and some sharp wordplay, this new song lives up to that expectation for the most part.

Furthermore, there’s no telling whether this will reach the highs or lows of other rap beefs this year, but it definitely kicked off with a bang. Fans are reacting wildly to “SUE MEEE?” and breaking down the history between Cardi B and BIA, the veracity of their claims, and the bars themselves. The consensus seems mostly positive from neutrals, although there’s obviously a lot of clowning and mocking due to their differences in status and popularity. It’s not as David versus Goliath as some folks make it out to be, but it still might be a relevant factor if Bardi chooses to clap back with a dedicated response on wax.

If you want to catch up with this tension, we’d recommend checking out Cardi B’s recent remix of “Wanna Be” by Megan Thee Stallion and GloRilla, which ignited this BIA beef after some subliminal shots. Before BIA Dropped Her Diss Aimed At Cardi B And The Rapper Hinted At Taking Legal Action

There’s a whole lotta drama online between Cardi B and BIA. For well over a year, the pair has exchanged subtle jabs online. On May 31, their tension was officially transferred to wax.

Cardi B fired off at BIA in her guest verse on GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion’sWanna Be” remix. Today (June 2), BIA responded with a track of her own, “Sue Meee.” The night before its release, BIA teased a shady unreleased song on Instagram Live.

Shortly after gaining wind of BIA’s lines, Cardi B took to her page to clap back and even threatened to take legal action over BIA’s accusations of adultery and supposedly spreading a fake sex tape.

“I’m a sue you and you got to come with receipts,” Cardi said. “And not social media receipts, court receipts. I will get every little f*cking red penny that you ever f*cking make b*tch. Every money that you make off your publishing. So find something safe to do.”

BIA laughed off Cardi’s legal plan in the caption of her upload. “Sue me,” she wrote. “That’s not hip hop 😂.”

Cardi B claimed that BIA took to her private Instagram page to post a story, saying she isn’t afraid to face litigation: “Good luck you think I’m Tasha K.”

“Girl. Ask Tasha K. She couldn’t even lie on my p*ssy,” replied Cardi.

Cardi B Threatens To Sue BIA Over Diss Track: Fans React To “SUE MEEE?”

Rap beef feels like a hydra in 2024: one gets cut off, and about three more emerge to take its place in the conversation. Moreover, Cardi B and BIA officially entered the “on wax” portion of their once-rumored and now-apparent beef, as the latter launched the “SUE MEEE?” diss track against the former. The online consensus seems quite positive, as many had praise for the Massachusetts MC’s wordplay and flows, but others were too busy clowning or defending Bardi or expressing that the cut could’ve gone harder. Either way, the “Like That”-reminiscent beat and personal shots definitely set this diss in the pantheon of this year’s feuds.

Furthermore, this all came up because of fans thinking that Cardi B started to bite BIA’s style, a sentiment that the latter seemed in full agreement with. Of course, when it comes to influence and inspiration, not every single artist gets the proper credit that they deserve. But it’s also true that references don’t always indicate full biting, and that this is a pretty vague and up-to-interpretation debacle. No matter which side you fall on there, fans have a lot to say on the matter that could sway you to the other side.

BIA’s “SUE MEEE?” Diss Track Against Cardi B: Listen

Then, things got particularly heated when Cardi B seemed to diss BIA on the “Wanna Be” remix, a cut originally by GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion. The REALLY HER spitter seemed to mock Cardi in response online, and now it’s more clear than ever that she really took this as a big dig. It’s always a tough call with subliminals, especially when the previous “evidence” of beef was just some social media speculation. Sadly, this happens to femcees far too often, but this time around, there was a lot of truth behind it. Check out some reactions to “SUE MEEE?” down below.

Fans React To The Diss

Right now, in the aftermath of this diss track, Cardi B and BIA apparently had a “very nasty” phone call about their differences. Cardi threatened to sue her for spreading rumors that the Bronx rapper cheated on her partner Offset, which some fans thought was a step too far in rap beef. Only time will tell whether Bardi will respond with a track of her own. So move over, Kendrick Lamar and Drake: it’s time for the ladies to compete for a title.

BIA Subtly Responds To Cardi B’s Jabs On GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Wanna Be’ Remix

Just when you thought the wave of rap feuds were over, another duo has reentered the fray. Cardi B and BIA’s ongoing beef is sizzling.

After several subliminal online spats, yesterday (May 31) Cardi B took to the booth with a direct jab at BIA via her verse on GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be” remix.

Following the track’s release, it appears BIA subtly responded to the call on. “B*itches is wack,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “B*tches is trash. I should hang b*tches right over my knee, the way I be puttin’ my belt to the ass 😂😂😂.”

Days before, it seems that BIA shaded Cardi B over her use of songwriters on her records. “The quality of features I have, shows how much of a fan I am of real writers ✍🏽,” she wrote.

Read Cardi B’s lines on “Wanna Be” remix directed at BIA below.

“Guess I’m a teacher since you wanna sub me / She did one had no idea / Thought she was on the shelf Ikea / Hope she talk like that when I see her / B*tch please don’t nobody wanna be her (BIA) / Cheap lookin’ ass ho, weak lookin’ ass ho / Great Value me lookin’ ass ho / Girl, these bitches be pussy
Delete every tweet lookin’ ass ho”

The much-anticipated Cardi B-featuring remix of “Wanna Be” is here, and on the track, she’s out for blood.

Did Cardi B Diss BIA On GloRilla And Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be” Remix?

Towards the end of Cardi’s song-opening verse, she raps, “Guess I’m a teacher since you wanna sub me / She did what? Had no idea / Thought she was on the shelf, Ikea / Hope she talk like that when I see her / B*tch, please, don’t nobody wanna be ya.”

The beef between Cardi and BIA seemingly started earlier this year, after Cardi released “Like What (Freestyle).” The song samples Missy Elliott’s 1999 single “She’s A B*tch,” as does BIA’s 2023 song “Fallback.” Some online pointed out the similarity and BIA subtly stoked the flames by acknowledging it. Shortly after, Cardi tweeted, “B*tches make a fool of themselves every single time [crying laughing emoji].. ima show ya something when I release this song tho.”

As for what Cardi’s saying on the “Wanna Be” remix, the line about being “on the shelf” is seemingly a dig at BIA’s relative lack of chart success despite having been active as a rapper for over a decade, with three singles hitting the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Also, when Cardi says “don’t nobody wanna be ya,” it would appear that “be ya” is meant to be a reference to BIA.

Cardi B Seemingly Disses BIA On “Wanna Be” Remix, BIA Responds With Mockery

Looks like there might be another beef on watch for 2024, as Cardi B seemingly took a shot at BIA on her remix of GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be.” “Guess I’m a teacher since you wanna sub me / She did what? Had no idea / Thought she was on the shelf, IKEA / Hope she talk like that when I see her / B***h please, don’t nobody wanna be ya,” she rappped on the cut. The Bronx MC had previously warned her that she wanted to “show her something” after they traded some subliminal shots online or on wax. The Medford, Massachusetts rapper chose to respond first via Twitter, quoting some of Bardi’s on-and-off-again boo’s Offset’s bars.

“ION SEE THE CAP I GO RAY CHARLES BLIND,” BIA supposedly responded to Cardi B in a seemingly since-deleted tweet, quoting the former Migo and Gunna’s “Prada Dem.” She also roped in an iffy quote from the couple’s song “Clout” which also seeks to discredit Cardi and dismiss her shots. “B***HS IS WACK,” the 32-year-old expressed. “B***HS IS TRASH. I SHOULD HANG B***HS RIGHT OVER MY KNEE, THE WAY I BE PUTTIN MY BELT TO THEY A**.” Looks like a main point of contention between them or their fanbases is Bardi allegedly stealing her style.

Cardi B Disses BIA

Then, when a fan asked BIA to save this negative energy against Cardi B for the booth, she was quick to flaunt her skills and seemingly issue a challenge. “B***h you don’t want me in the booth I’m REALLY like that,” she wrote. In addition, the “I’M THAT B***H” spitter shared a video of battle rapper Yoshi G dissing Cardi, even though it doesn’t really look like the bar landed in that instance. Either way, it seems like there’s a lot of potential sore spots and avenues for this to go through, and we wonder what else could happen for rap beef in 2024. We’d rather things stay civil and friendly, but if there’s a battle, there’s a battle.

BIA’s Responses

I didn’t switch up on anybody because I don’t know Cardi in real life,” BIA said of Cardi B last year when rumors spread that a collab caused issues. “I’ve never met Cardi, we’ve never had a conversation. Like, I don’t have no issues with her, it’s all love, but I don’t know her.”

BIA Hints At JID Feature On Her Upcoming Single “Lights Out”

BIA has been building an excellent career. She signed to Pharrell’s label in 2014, and since then, she’s landed coveted collabs with the likes of Kali Uchis and J Balvin. The remix to her 2021 single, “Whole Lotta Money,” featured a fun verse from Nicki Minaj and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. BIA is the real deal, which is why fans are so excited about the possibility of collaborating with another established talent: JID. She posted a video of her and JID conversing, and now the world desperately wants them to link up on a song.

BIA posted the video on May 28. The singer is on the set of a music video with a green screen. She’s talking with makeup artists about the set up of a particular shot, and who else but JID wanders into the frame. The rapper is impressed with what he sees, calling it “fire.” BIA then gives him a hug before she hits her mark. The video is brief, but it definitely seems like BIA is teasing JID’s involvement in her new song. She announced the release of her single “Lights Out” on June 7. The general consensus (or hope) is that JID will be featured on it. He’s even listed on the song’s Genius page.

BIA has aimed to get the focus back on her music since the social media controversy that went down in April. The singer was accused of lying about her lineage. Fans began to question her ethnic background, which led to her firing back with proof. “U still don’t know the difference between race and ethnicity,” she tweeted at a user. “B*tch pick up a book. It’s called Afro Latina stupid.” She also dragged those who tried to suggest she was not Black. “Are you really that slow,” she asked. “How did biracial ppl even get here? Do you know what Puerto Rican are? African Taino and European. There are Jamaican Indians you f*ckin idiot pick up a book.”

JID, meanwhile, is riding a critical high. His last release, The Forever Story, was hailed by many as the best album of 2023. He’s teased a collaborative project with Metro Boomin, and he told People that he wants to get involved in filmmaking. “Like I can recall a lot of situations that meant a lot to me and were pivotal in my journey,” he told the outlet. “I’ll do that. And I’ll probably put it in the form of a movie, too. I’m big into directing and all of that stuff… I want to make sure I tap into that before my time is.”

Do BIA And Cardi B Have Beef?

bia

Cardi B’s seven-year tenure at the top of the rap world has been marked by her propensity for making hits, but also by a LOT of rap beef. In addition to the most well-known feud — her currently simmering discord with “Mrs. Petty” Nicki MInaj — Cardi has been embroiled in numerous other beefs with rappers like City Girls, Cuban Doll, Joe Budden (who barely counts as a rapper these days), and more.

With the release of Cardi’s new single “Like What (Freestyle),” fans are sure she has another name to add to her ever-expanding list: Boston rapper BIA, who’s best known for her standout 2021 single “Whole Lotta Money” and collaborations with J. Cole and Nicki Minaj. So… do BIA and Cardi B have beef and why do some fans insist this is the case?

It all started — as these things so often do these days — on Twitter, where a fan noted the similarities between “Like What” and BIA’s 2023 track “Fallback.” Both songs sample Missy Elliott’s 1999 single “She’s A Bitch,” and since so many fans on social media live in bubbles of their own making (not to mention The Algorithm), it makes sense they wouldn’t realize how many hip-hop songs share the same samples.

In any case, BIA replied to the tweet with a string of woozy face emojis, following up on her public feed with a laughing “Yall are sick.”

A few hours later, Cardi wrote, “Bitches make a fool of themselves every single time 😂.. ima show ya something when I release this song tho.”

Now, not one iota of this looks like beef to me, but Stan Twitter owns a block on the corner of “Wishful Thinking” and Delulu Blvd. For what it’s worth, pretty much every Nicki Minaj collaborator seems to have to sign a NATO-style mutual offense treaty to earn their way into Mrs. Petty’s good graces. If BIA really does have it out for Cardi, it’d make three of the five guest rappers on the Queen Mix of “Super Freaky Girls” to come after the “Bodak Yellow” rapper since the song’s release. I guess Nicki was really hurt when Megan Thee Stallion seemingly switched sides, but that’s a whole other post.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
