ASAP ROCKY
Rihanna Recalls When She And ASAP Rocky Took A Road Trip With A ‘Janky’ Walmart Grill
Rihanna’s Vogue story is a gift that keeps on giving. In addition to describing how she changed up her album recording process, she also revealed some fun details about her relationship with ASAP Rocky. In one of her yarns, she detailed a road trip that the couple took near the start of their relationship in 2020 that involved a road trip, tye-die T-shirts, and a “little janky grill I bought from Walmart.” The stories showed how, despite her recently becoming a billionaire, Rihanna and Rocky have focused on keeping their pairing down to earth.
“I love the simple things but also the grand adventures,” she said. “There’s no pretentious, ‘my-brand-your-brand’ bulls*t; it’s just us living. I just feel like I can do any part of life by his side.”
Rihanna also said that the rapper had to pass the mom test, something that not all of her exes have been able to do. After bringing Rocky to Barbados for the holidays in 2020, she said he won mom’s approval. “My mother has a really good read on people,” she said. “She observes first, and then she’ll move slowly. I guess I’m like that too. There are some guys that I’ve dated that she won’t even look at to this day. But she was charmed by him from the jump.”
As for that “janky grill,” which she says they used to cook all their food on that road trip, she still has it, and says “it works like nobody’s business.”

In addition to finishing up his album, Fivio lent his voice to a new song on Kanye’s Donda 2, as well as collaborating with both Nicki Minaj and City Girls on “We Go Up” and “Top Notch,” respectively.

ASAP Rocky Doesn’t Think Will Smith’s Slap Was ‘Targeted At Chris Rock’
While most of the rappers who have weighed in on the Will Smith Oscars slap either empathized or found it funny (seriously, there are so many jokes), there’s at least one who did not. New father-to-be ASAP Rocky, dropping by controversial quote factory Drink Champs, was asked for his take on the slap, which found Smith leaving some fresh prints (heyo) on the face of Chris Rock over a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.
“I’m a fan of Will, Jada, Chris, all of them,” Rocky replied. “They OGs. I think it’s unfortunate that, like, he emasculated another Black man in front of all them people like that. But I do think that, like, it’s some built-up shit that probably wasn’t really targeted at Chris Rock. I don’t know. … Like what you said, it seems like it’s more than just a G.I. Jane joke.”
Well, he’s certainly right about things being built up. For one thing, Jada has suffered alopecia, an immune disorder that causes hair to fall out in patches. This is why she keeps her head shaved, a look that drew the comparison to the titular character from Demi Moore’s 1997 woman-in-the-military film (it probably doesn’t help that the movie was pretty bad and roundly rebuked on its release). In the preceding years, the Smiths have been a lightning rod for criticism and ridicule as a result of their rumored open marriage and the press run for Will’s memoir. A lot of quotes were taken out of context and used to demean and mock the man, who we know has social media and uses it often. In addition to the way people have talked about his kids, it probably is safe to say he’s had just about enough of the jokes.
Smith later apologized for the slap and faces possible disciplinary measures up to and including expulsion from The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences.
A$AP Rocky Is Cool As Hell, But His New Whisky Is A Massive Miss
Celebrity whisk(e)y is nothing new. There are tons of brands out there that borrow varying levels of influence from their heavy-hitting celebrity partners. Some bottles feel like a celeb simply slapped their names on a bottle (called white labeling) and cashed a check, while other famous folks really dive into the distilling and aging processes.
Unfortunately, A$AP Rocky’s new whisky brand falls squarely in the “cash grab” end of the spectrum. That’s not to say he’s totally hands off — it’s tough to discern exactly how involved he is — but it is to say that his new spirit… isn’t great.
Rocky’s new whisky — which dropped this week and is shipping out in April — is all about “disruptive packaging” and “contemporary consumer” vibes. You know, boilerplate PR messaging. While it’s never a good sign when those buzzwords are all over a press release for a whisky, there was some hope for this one. A$AP Rocky has a great eye for design, has been pushing hip-hop culture in new directions, and made a splash when he got behind Courvoisier Cognac a few years ago. He knows booze and the design of the bottle is eye-catching, which shows he’s thinking outside the box in a very standardized industry.
There are also two plastic cups attached to the bottle for easy drinking — which is also “disruptive.” Though, to be honest, probably not needed or as cool as someone at the brand seems to think they are. We digress! For now, let’s dive into what is actually in the bottle and see if it’s worth tracking down.

Mercer + Prince Blended Canadian Whisky by A$AP Rocky
ABV: 40%
Average Price: $32 (Pre-order)
The Whisky:
The juice in the bottle is a four-year-old Canadian whisky with an unpublished mash bill. The whisky, made in Ontario, rests in ex-bourbon barrels for those four years before it’s vatted and refilled into Mizunara casks from Japan for a final (short) maturation. That whisky is then proofed all the way down to 80 proof and bottled.
Tasting Notes:
There’s a hint of warm apple pie on the nose with a touch of brown spices and tart apple filling that gives way to a dark Caro Syrup. That ultra-sweet syrup drives the palate with the spice and apple disappearing from the taste, leaving you feeling like you just put a spoonful of brown sugar that was dipped in “whisky” in your mouth. There’s an echo of brown spice near the end and maybe a hint of green apple peels (I’m being super generous), but it’s the brown sugar/corn syrup that drives the short and watery finish towards a mostly blank conclusion.
The Bottle:
I’m not sure what to make of these plastic cups on the top and bottom of the bottle. It’s neat for about five seconds then you realize you’re drinking cheap and overly sweet whisky out of a plastic cup that’s not helping the flavor at all. Plus, you need to clean out the cups before you put them back on the bottle. Otherwise, there’ll be a sticky mess.
This really feels like it was a good idea when it came out of someone’s mouth and then not really thought all the way through. There’s no way these plastic cups aren’t going straight in the trash or, worse, just thrown on the street in the liquor store parking lot.
Bottom Line:
Between the overly sweet vibe of this whisky and the portable whisky cups, this really feels like it’s marketed towards high school kids. It’s so sweet that it’s hard to find any redeeming quality here. It’s the first bottle in years that I’ll likely just pour down the drain and then put in two different recycling garbage cans (thanks for the extra work, Rocky!). Then, to be honest, I’ll probably never think about this bottle again.
Ranking:
50/100 — This is a total fail.
Nigo And Lil Uzi Vert Go Chain Shopping In Their Boastful ‘Heavy’ Video
Lil Uzi Vert and Nigo take an expensive shopping trip in the video for “Heavy,” from the BAPE designer’s new album, I Know Nigo. They’re joined by ASAP Rocky, who also appears on the album on the songs “Arya” and “Lost And Found Freestyle,” and accompanies them into Jacob & Co. after joining Uzi for some dismissive trash talk outside the store. “Y’all just started getting fly,” Uzi sneers. “Y’all n****s just started coming outside, too,” Rocky confirms. The rest of the video is a blur of bling, with Rocky and Uzi stunting aside a stoic, masked Nigo.
I Know Nigo, which dropped on Friday, March 25, is the DJ’s first solo album since 2005’s Nigo Presents: Return Of The Ape Sounds. Co-executive produced by Nigo’s longtime friend Pharrell Williams (a Bathing Ape early adopter since the late ’90s), the album also features contributions from frequent collaborators Clipse, Gunna, ASAP Ferg, Kid Cudi, the late Pop Smoke, Tyler The Creator, and Nigo’s own hip-hop group, Teriyaki Boyz, who last released an album in 2009 with Serious Japanese.
