2 Chainz And Lil Wayne Tease “Long Story Short” From “Welcome 2 ColleGrove”

One of the most anticipated releases of 2023 is about to drop next week. On Friday, November 17, 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne are going to be releasing their sequel to their 2016 collaborative record, COLLEGROVE. It is crazy to think that it has been seven years since that album came out. But, the wait is nearly over and we are absolutely stoked to see what these two legends have to offer. It is clear that they still have plenty left in the tank. Lil Wayne has especially been on a tear as of late. He has come out with a precursor project with Tha Fix Before The VI.

Additionally, his feature game has been insane as well. “Brand New,” “Big Dog,” and “Never Die,” are just a few terrific examples of Weezy going back to his roots with his clever one-liners. Now, he and 2 Chainz are looking to bring that same energy and wordplay to Welcome 2 Collegrove. We already got “Presha” not too long ago and now we have one more coming on Friday, November 10.

However, there looks to be one more rapper on it. Genius says it features another trap legend, Juicy J. Of course, this trio has given us classics in the past like, “Bandz A Make Her Dance.” Tity Boi dropped a teaser trailer for the accompanying music video, including some of Wayne’s bars.

What are your initial thoughts on 2 Chainz teasing this new song, “Long Story Short,” with Lil Wayne and Juicy J? Will this be the best track on Welcome 2 ColleGrove? The Welcome 2 Collegrove album isn’t the first collaboration between Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, as the longtime friends have connected on several projects in and outside of the booth. During their appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Chainz revealed that their bond goes deeper than just music.

“Uh…Wayne wanted cannabis,” admitted 2 Chainz. Wayne added on, saying, “And so every time I would go to Atlanta, and I wanted to speak about that one thing, I would always call [2 Chainz] to talk about that.”

Lil Wayne Name-Drops Devin Booker In ‘Phresha,’ His And 2 Chainz’s First Single From ‘Welcome 2 ColleGrove’

2 Chainz and Lil Wayne are true to their word. Earlier this week, Wayne shared on his Discord channel that “Presha” would arrive ahead of his and 2 Chainz’s performance on the October 20 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that night. And earlier in October, 2 Chainz reportedly let it slip, “Me and Wayne’s album drops next month. This is a full-circle moment.” (2 Chainz also told The Source that it would “be coming out before the year’s over with.”)

Right on cue, “Presha” is here this morning (October 20), and Welcome 2 ColleGrove will arrive on November 17. The album’s release date was confirmed via press release, which also relayed, “ColleGrove is a portmanteau of Chainz’s hometown, College Park, Georgia, and Wayne’s hometown, Hollygrove, Louisiana.” Their original ColleGrove collaborative album dropped all the way back in March 2016 — peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

The bar is set high for Welcome 2 ColleGrove from jump in “Presha,” as the single starts with someone yelling, “Yoooo! This sh*t is un-believ-able!” The beat drops — an infectious juxtaposition of high-pitched whistling and thumping bass — and 2 Chainz raps, “Yeah, we cookin’ now / You know this sh*t presha ’cause they lookin’ out / Say, ‘Look out for me,’ but they wasn’t lookin’ out / Got your sh*t together, suki, suki now.”

About halfway through, Lil Wayne hops on the track and delivers his bars in his signature frenetic flow. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wayne verse without a clever sports reference: “Smokin’ dope, you can smell the boogers / Break your nose like Devin Booker.”

Watch the “Presha” lyric video above.

Welcome 2 ColleGrove is out 11/17 via Def Jam Recordings. Find more information here.

HNHH, as well as a lot of other publications, have been calling the album ColleGrove 2. However, if you check out the Genius page for the album, it appears that the official name for it is Welcome to ColleGrove.

For now, there are only two features, but they are heavy hitters. Benny The Butcher looks to be appearing on the track, “La La La.” Then, Ty Dolla $ign will most likely be providing the hook on “New One.”

I’m on that treble, I’m on her level
