Lucky Daye Firmly Sticks The Landing On Ambitious “Algorithm”

“I chose ‘Algorithm’ because I wanted to highlight what R&B was in my own algorithm. Everything I’ve ever heard that sounded like R&B to me, whether it was soul or blues. I wanted to bring it to life in my own way. This album from beginning to end is different versions of what I feel R&B is. It’s everything that makes me. I wanted to become one with the algorithm and with the music”. That is what Lucky Daye had to say to Clash in regard to the creative process behind Algorithm. This is the third studio album from the now mainstay in the modern field of R&B. However, this project does not feel all that contemporary.

It seems like the Louisiana native was going for an old-school aesthetic. If that is true, then he absolutely crushed it in that aspect. Amplifying that are the sick guitar solos, thick drums, and extremely soulful vocals. Overall, Lucky Daye did not leave any stone unturned. That is something he emphasized when crafting Algorithm, as he expressed how meticulous he was, especially this time through. “We are actual musicians, we’re the technical, nerdy, and scientific music makers. I love working with people like that. I understand that some people are here to entertain us, but I like working with real musicians”. We are of the belief that this is Lucky’s strongest outing to date, as even though he takes more risks in all aspects, the results are rewarding for all of the senses.

Megan Thee Stallion Plays Mediator As Jonathan Wright Gets Into It With Her Security

Megan Thee Stallion’s new album MEGAN‘s release party in Los Angeles allegedly faced some scuffles throughout, according to a video reportedly obtained by TMZ Hip Hop. Moreover, apparently celebrity hair stylist Jonathan Wright got into it with Meg’s security guard Tom Lang at the event, as apparently Lang didn’t know who Wright was and refused to allow him access. Eventually, the Houston femcee stepped in and beckoned her bodyguard to let the stylist through, and they reportedly chopped it up over some drinks. At press time, it’s unclear what details of this are actually accurate or which of the two parties was the disrespectful instigator.

Elsewhere, though, Megan Thee Stallion seems to have a big hit on her hands with MEGAN, both off of the strength of previous singles and new spicy material. Some fans reacted wildly to some supposed Nicki Minaj disses on the album, whereas others focused more on the anime references or more personal lyrical matter. Either way, it seems like there’s plenty of content to enjoy no matter what you’re looking for in a rap project. We’ll see how it ages in the year and how it stacks up to what’s to come.

However, one particularly hot topic of discussion online is Megan Thee Stallion’s new MEGAN cut “Down Stairs DJ,” which she dedicated to her… self-love, let’s say. “Me, myself, and I, and a rose / Ebony, lezzy, XVideos / Big titty, blonde hair, Anna Nicole / Spicy Spanish hottie, nympho,” she raps on the cut. Of course, it’s not like Tina Snow ever shied away from raunchiness in her previous material, but this became a particularly detailed account, so to speak. In addition, it also prompted a lot of folks’ appreciation for this topical focus and the general themes of self-love, lewd or otherwise, on the new album.

Meanwhile, Megan Thee Stallion may have defended Jonathan Wright this time around, but she’s not as forgiving of others in her circle. She and her team want a lawsuit against her from a former photographer dismissed. That’s been another pretty contentious topic online concerning Meg, and one that’s still an unanswered question. We’ll see whether there’s another chapter to that saga.

Birdman & Lil Wayne Reunite To Celebrate Cash Money Anniversary At YouTube Gala

It’s no secret that Birdman and Lil Wayne have had their fair share of ups and downs, but recently, the duo linked up for YouTube’s annual Leaders & Legends Gala. The event took place in Los Angeles earlier this week, and Cash Money was honored with an award. Birdman accepted it just in time for Cash Money’s 30th anniversary, along with co-founder Ronald “Slim” Williams. Of course, several artists from the label’s roster were in attendance.

Mannie Fresh, Yo Gotti, Juvenile, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, and more joined the celebration. Birdman took to Instagram to share a fun photo from the evening, which shows him standing next to Weezy, Yo Gotti, and Mack Maine. “A movie @cashmoneyofficial #RICHGANG,” he captioned the post. “YMCMB [goat emoji] STUNNAMAN.”

The event took place just days before Cash Money is scheduled to get together for a performance at Essence Fest in New Orleans. Jeremih has been a major player figure in the R&B space for nearly a decade and a half. While he might not be as eager to release that much solo material anymore, he is back to remind folks why he is still a star. The way Jeremih is doing that is dropping a new single, “Wait On It”. However, he is not doing this by himself, as Bryson Tiller and Chris Brown are joining him for this single about being the sneaky link.

This is just the Chicago, Illinois native’s second solo release in the last year, with “Wait On It” superseding “Room”. That song also had two other guests, as Adekunle Gold and 2 Chainz were enlisted there. There is a slight chance that Jeremih is working toward a new album. If so, it would be the first since the 2022 rerelease of his mixtape, Late Nights With Jeremih. This single is also contributing to the strong years that Bryson Tiller and Chris Brown are having. The former is fresh off dropping his first studio album in four years, Bryson Tiller. The BET Awards aren’t the only awards show in town this week. Lil Baby just snagged songwriter of the year at the 2024 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards.

The “Drip Too hard” rapper, who’s real name is Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones, accepted the award at an exclusive event in Los Angeles on June 27.

Get this, when it comes to Lil Baby’s pen, he co-wrote three of ASCAP’s most performed songs of the year: “Forever” and “Heyy” from his chart-topping third studio album *It’s Only Me*, and “Freestyle” from his 2017 mixtape “Too Hard.” “It’s Only Me” reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and Top Rap Albums charts.

Outside of Lil Baby, other notable songwriters recognized at the 2024 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards include 21 Savage (“Good Good,” “Spin Bout U,” “Peaches & Eggplants,” “Rich Flex”), Lil Uzi Vert (“Just Wanna Rock”), Summer Walker (“Good Good,” “Karma”), Coco Jones (“ICU”), Smokie Norful (“I Still Have You”), and Tye Tribbett (“New”).

Offset And Gunna Throw A Fit (Or Two) In Their ‘Matrix’-Inspired ‘Style Rare’ Video

Offset and Gunna continue to display scintillating chemistry on their latest collaboration, the fashion-focused “Style Rare.” In the video, which is co-directed by Offset himself with Joshua “Mid Jordan” Farias, the two designer-minded rappers trade verses in front of a wall of screens in a white room in a scene reminiscent of the “Source” from the Matrix movies. Their all-black outfits keep the Matrix parallels going, although their dance scenes are a little slicker thanks to the women doing choreo instead of a cave full of barefoot refugees fist-pumping to techno.

The two rappers first linked up in March on Gunna’s “Prada Dem” from the YSL rapper’s then-forthcoming album, One Of Wun. Gunna is apparently returning the favor with “Style Rare,” which will presumably appear on Offset’s next solo album, which will follow 2023’s Set It Off. Intriguingly, Offset is so far the only Atlanta-based rapper to have collaborated with Gunna since he was released from Fulton County Jail after pleading guilty to racketeering charges.

Perhaps Offset’s own experiences being cut off from his former group, Migos, for a year, then losing bandmate Takeoff in a shooting, has given him a bit more perspective on the situation than some of their peers. Maybe he now thinks life’s too short to worry about adhering to “street code” when their rap careers have given so much more — and taken away a lot less.

ScHoolboy Q Couldn’t Believe Donald Trump & Joe Biden’s Golf Debate

Like most U.S. citizens last night (Thursday, June 27), ScHoolboy Q was in tears for two reasons while watching the Joe Biden and Donald Trump CNN debate, filmed in Atlanta. The first of which was due to the comically bizarre and ridiculous interactions between them, and the other owes itself to sadness over the state of our country. Specifically, Q joked about our last two Commanders In Chief comparing their golf games, and as a big fan of the sport, he’s probably got a lot more to say than this.

“THey talking bout golf im crying braH [crying-laughing emoji],” ScHoolboy Q tweeted out last night. “biden ain’t no 6 Handicap dawg. trump definitely cHeated during tHe club cHampionsHip [U.S. flag emoji].” “THis s**t Hilarious,” he added later, along with another tweet that responded to a fan’s reply quoting the following quote from Trump, one of two hip-hop-approval-seeking presidential candidates in 2024: “I’ve seen your swing, I know your swing.” “braH,” Q responded simply, preceding it with some more crying-laughing emojis for good measure. But how did an old white man and an older, somehow whiter man reach the topic of golf in their debate in the first place?

“I just won two club championships, not even senior,” Donald Trump said at one point of the 90-minute debate, attempting to prove how he’s still fit to take on a presidential role. “Two regular club championships. He challenged me to a golf match; he can’t hit a ball 50 yards.

“Look, I’d be happy to have a driving contest with him,” Joe Biden retorted. “I got my handicap, which when I was vice president, down to a six [he’s apparently actually an eight].
