HER Organizes An Uprising In The Stirring ‘Fight For You’ Video

The video for HER’s “Fight For You” is here. HER’s soulful Judas And The Black Messiah soundtrack single invokes the lasting legacy of the Black Panther Party, so it’s only right that the video does the same. Following a loose storyline, the video observes how the tragic cycle of state violence against Black Americans plays out across the decades, with a shooting in 1971 laying the foundation for an uprising HER and her father try to organize in 2021.

Using their shoe shop’s stature as a clear focal point of the community, HER delivers boots stamped “I am a revolutionary” to friends and family throughout the city, prompting former Panthers to remember their revolutionary calling. However, their activities attract the wrong kind of attention, causing the cycle to play out as it always has. Even then, hope is seen in a future generation that has already absorbed the lessons taught by the elder Panthers, proving that the system can kill a revolutionary but can’t kill the revolution.

HER previously performed the standout, Golden Globe- and Grammy-nominated track on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, while the Bay Area singer will also perform at the first-ever Black Music Collective pre-Grammy event highlighting the contributions of Black artists ahead of the main show on March 10. “Fight For You” also appears on the Oscars’ Best Original Song shortlist.

Kodak Black Responds To Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” Going Diamond

While Kodak Black’s new-found freedom has the rapper stirring things up in the rap game’s online space, not everything he’s spouting is to simply antagonize or instigate. The rapper has been in headlines the past twenty-four hours due to a seemingly light-hearted feud with Lil Baby, that quickly unraveled into what appears to be beef-proper with Pooh Shiesty, who had taken offense to Kodak’s comments about Baby.

Today, as the rapper continues to comment on Pooh Shiesty, he’s also offered a few words of praise to a female rapper who was recently bestowed a new honor. Cardi B went viral this morning after it was announced that “Bodak Yellow” broke a new record for the artist. “Bodak Yellow” was certified diamond by the RIAA, thus making Cardi B as the first female rapper to ever obtain a diamond-certified single.

In response to this milestone, Kodak Black offered a tweet to Cardi B, “Bodak Yellow Went Diamond Dam Right @iamcardib,” he wrote to New York native.

This is relevant to Kodak because the song’s title infamously takes inspiration from Kodak Yellow. “I named it ‘Bodak Yellow’ cause the flow of the song, it will remind you of a song that Kodak Black did called ‘No Flockin,” Cardi explained to Genius in 2017.

Congrats to Cardi B on the success of “Bodak Yellow”! You can catch her performing at the Grammys this coming weekend.

Yung Bleu Flexes Benefits Of “The Drake Stimulus Package”

The “Drake Stimulus Package,” as it is often called, has proven to be a lucrative investment for many up-and-coming rappers. Though a guest verse from Drizzy doesn’t always guarantee sustained longevity, it will almost certainly guarantee, at the bare minimum, short-term financial gain. For Yung Bleu, who was already doing well prior to connecting with Drake on “You’re Mines Still,” the benefits of the collaborations were notable all the same.

In fact, the artist recently took a moment to share a fun fact about his high-profile collab on Twitter. “Ain’t gone lie that Drake feature hits different,” he writes. “I done made like a couple million in like 3 months. It usually takes me a year to stack a million.” When one of his followers remarks that Bleu wouldn’t have made the money without Drake, the melodist makes sure to put the doubter in check. “I been making big money tho,” he retorts. “I just made it quicker.”

Given that “You’re Mines Still” currently holds an impressive twenty-six million views on YouTube alone, it’s not exactly surprising to hear that it’s been among Yung Bleu’s top earners. Curiously, the duet has yet to be certified gold or platinum by the RIAA, though it wouldn’t be surprising to see the time come shortly. It should also be noted that Drizzy and Bleu have apparently discussed the idea of a joint EP, though that has yet to be confirmed as anything beyond an idea.

Check out Bleu’s comments on his Drake collab below, and sound off if you’d like to hear further music from the “You’re Mines Still” duo.

Tearful Kim Kardashian Possibly Previewing Kanye Divorce In “KUWTK” Trailer

Keeping Up With Kardashians series finale is bound to show bits and pieces of Kim Kardashian’s divorce from rapper Kanye West, and a recent teaser seemly hints at just that.

The show has reached its 20th and final season, and a new trailer shows a tearful Kim with a wad of tissues expressing she “feels like a f*cking loser.” On top of juggling law school, Kim filed for divorce in late February.

Around the time this was filmed, Kanye was in the spotlight for outlandish behavior, including running for President. There were public marital issues, Twitter outbursts, and an unfortunate bipolar episode that put Ye under major public scrutiny. It is only assumed that Kim’s emotional breakdown was caused by this series of stress-provoking events.

However, the trailer hinted at other exciting news for the Kardashian family. Model Kendall Jenner is shown expressing major interest in having kids, and soon too. Meanwhile, Khloe and Tristan debate having a second child via surrogacy, while considering their “unofficial” relationship.

Kris Jenner, the family’s mom-ager, was pictured working out the tricky details with her ex-lover Caitlyn Jenner, who had a hard time coming rekindling a relationship with her as seen in the past KUWTK seasons.

Scott Disick, Kourtney’s ex-boyfriend and father of their three children Penelope, Mason, and Reign, professed his love for Kourtney and admitted to wanting marriage despite the toxicity and constant tug-of-war that came with their relationship.

The KUWTK farewell season is set to premiere on March 18 and may be their most exciting season yet. Take a look below.

SZA Seemingly Responds To Fan Criticism: “I Hate It Here”

Last week, SZA’s supposed-fans bombarded her Twitter mentions and accidentally got her trending for apparently being a “liar.” A series of tweet threads containing articles and interview segments of SZA’s contradicting statements about such things as her age, the length of her hair, as well as sillier things, such as claiming to have never owned a television, but later posting a selfie with a TV. Another one alleged she painted her freckles, after stating her freckles were real.

However, after some slight detective work from the “Good Days” singer’s fans, a lot of these claims were “proven” false. As the jokes and investigative threads continued to spread like wildfire, SZA didn’t seem too happy about it, tweeting “I hate it here.”

While the tweet could be aimed at anything, the timing and energy of the tweet were just far too coincidental and popped up while fans were still getting a kick out of SZA’s “storytelling” habits. A few hours later, the “Hit Different” singer applied a little more pressure, still indirectly, albeit.

The singer tweeted “I’d be dead if I gave a f*ck.”

In other news, SZA released the visual for her platinum-selling single “Good Days,” which ended up being something directly out of one of the singer’s fantasies. It has been a few years, actually four in June, since SZA released her critically acclaimed album CTRL. In the meantime, she has been keeping fans occupied with collaborations with other artists, including Megan Thee Stallion on “Freaky Girls” and “Hit Different” with Ty Dolla $ign, not to mention interviewing Doja Cat for a futuristic issue of V Magazine.

Do you think SZA was responding to fan criticism? Let us know in the comments.

Benny The Butcher Bodies “Fire In The Booth”

Is anybody really surprised that Benny The Butcher has come through with a brand new dose of bars? With his Harry Fraud-produced The Plugs I Met 2 set to drop March 19th, Benny has reunited with Charlie Sloth to deliver some “Fire In The Booth” for the first time since he and Conway absolutely bodied the studio a little over one year ago. This time, Benny is handling things on the solo tip, spitting three-minutes worth of elite lyricism in what appears to be the first of two installments.

“Since they want to shine, I’m copping them gold caskets,” he raps, stringing together an impressive multisyllabic rhyme scheme. “Ya’ll lil bastards be so backwards, I’m old fashioned / had dope addicts plus my phone had coke traffic / I was good in more than one sport like Bo Jackson / Plugs 2 n***a!” While the track is only available on Apple Music at the moment, expect a full video to surface in the near future, as was the case with the Griselda freestyle.

Check out Benny’s new Fire In The Booth Freestyle now, and keep an eye out for The Plugs I Met 2 to drop on March 19th — while surpassing its acclaimed predecessor is no easy feat, if anyone is capable of such evolution, it’s the forefather of butchery himself.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Since they want to shine, I’m copping them gold caskets,
Ya’ll lil bastards be so backwards, I’m old fashioned
Had dope addicts plus my phone had coke traffic
I was good in more than one sport like Bo Jackson

The Weeknd Reacts To “Blinding Lights” Accomplishment On Hot 100

Even with the devastating circumstances that were 2020, The Weeknd still came out on top. The pandemic was released in spite of the pandemic and he had to push back tour dates roughly two years since initially planning them out. It didn’t stop the power of the project’s second single, “Blinding Lights” to reach the top of the charts and maintain a position in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 for an entire year, making him the first artist to ever reach this accomplishment.

During an interview with Billboard, he said it was his fans who deserve the credit for helping him reach this massive milestone in his decade-plus career. “After Hours was always meant to be a very personal project. It’s a story I had to tell,” The Weeknd said. “The fact I’ve been able to tell it with the world listening is incredible. This Billboard chart record is truly a result of the fans. I’m so humbled and forever grateful to them.”

The Weeknd’s recent success with the single arrives after his performance at the Super Bowl where he closed his set with the single. To date, “Blinding Lights” has 1.1B audio and video streams combined and 726K downloads sold across the U.S.

Even though the single wasn’t announced as a nominee for the Grammys, it looks like the award show’s Canadian equal has got it right. The Junos announced their nominees on March 9th, earning the song three nominations including Single Of The Year and Songwriter Of The Year.

Congrats to The Weeknd for his latest accomplishment.

The Weeknd’s ‘Blinding Lights’ Was The Best-Selling Song Of 2020

Next week marks one year since The Weeknd released his acclaimed album After Hours. Since then, the singer has had many accomplishments. He was invited to perform at the Super Bowl half time show, and even honored with his own day by Toronto’s mayor. Now, The Weeknd can claim another impressive achievement: “Blinding Lights” was officially the best-selling song of 2020.

According to a year-end report released by the International Federation Of The Phonographic Industry (IFPI), “Blinding Lights” sold more units globally than any other song last year. Coming behind him in second place is Tones And I with her 2019 track “Dance Monkey,” followed by Roddy Ricch’s “The Box,” Saint Jhn’s “Roses,” and Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now.”

While The Weeknd had the highest-performing song of the year, he wasn’t the best-selling artist. That title was recently given to BTS after they had a wildly successful year. The Weeknd did, however, come in at fourth place behind Drake and Taylor Swift.

News of the massive success of “Blinding Lights” arrives shortly after the song secured another feat. On Monday, “Blinding Lights” became the first single to ever spend a full year in the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “After Hours was always meant to be a very personal project. It’s a story I had to tell,” The Weeknd told Billboard about his chart victory. “The fact I’ve been able to tell it with the world listening is incredible. This Billboard chart record is truly a result of the fans. I’m so humbled and forever grateful to them.”

Quality Control Is Developing A Horror Series Based On A Comic

Quality Control has solidified its dominance over the rap game over the past three years thanks to the success of acts like City Girls, Duke Deuce, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty, and Migos, but the Atlanta-based label isn’t satisfied with just being hip-hop’s most successful label. Now, Coach and P have their sights set on Hollywood and won’t stop until they’ve tapped into every possible genre and form.

Not only do Lil Yachty and Migos have multiple projects coming down the pike, including Yachty’s heist comedy based on Uno and Quavo’s turn as a drug kingpin alongside Robert De Niro, but the label is also jumping into the horror genre soon, according to Deadline. The industry trade magazine reports Quality Control has partnered with Trioscope Studios in a co-production deal developing a TV series based on a graphic novel about the horrors of being Black in America.

Trioscope Studios is best known for its Netflix series The Liberator, a World War II drama using hybrid animation that blends CGI with live-action actors. The technique will be applied to QC’s upcoming series. The report doesn’t note exactly which horror comic will be adapted, but there’s no shortage of stories they could have chosen from, including The Ballad of Black Tom and The Box of Bones, while shows like HBO’s Lovecraft Country have proven that there’s certainly an appetite for more Black-focused horror-style work.
