Playboi Carti Drops Box Set Pre-Orders Instead Of Music And Fans Are Mad

He really had fans going there for a second. Playboi Carti set the music world on fire for a couple hours on September 12. He dropped a link teasing a major announcement at 9:30 pm ET. Immediately, the fans went wild with theories. Is Playboi Carti finally dropping a single? Could he be dropping a release date for the new album? Maybe even the album itself! The possibilities were endless. Then 9:30 rolled around, and we discovered what the announcement was.

Playboi Carti decided to release box sets to accompany his unreleased album. Well, scratch that. He released pre-order links for the box sets for the unreleased album. One of them comes with a hoodie, another comes with a t-short, the last one with a hat. All three pieces of clothing have the logo for his upcoming album, MUSIC, emblazoned on them. It’s not a bad thing in a vacuum, but Playboi Carti had everybody scrambling for something big. The hype leading up to the announcement did not meet the announcement itself. Fans were not happy.

Playboi Carti Teased An Impending Release Date

The meme machine was swift and efficient. Carti fans fired up the old standbys, like comps of bricked shots and that one image of the guy applying clown makeup in the mirror. “F*ck you playboi carti and ur mysterious sh*t we all know ur just sum normal a*s mf fake as f*ck,” wrote one particularly angry Twitter user. Others were less aggressive, and simply tired of being given the runaround. “Playboi Carti. We are tired,” another user tweeted. “We are sick of this. Please give us what we want.”

There is some silver lining to be gleaned from the pre-order drop. Well, sort of. Playboi Carti issued a statement confirming that the release date for the album will be “announced soon.” An announcement for the announcement. Like we said, sort of. These days, it seems like folks on the internet can turn just about anything into a controversy. Case in point: During Tyla’s acceptance speech at last night’s MTV VMAs, she made a simple, relatable request that commenters on Twitter (never calling it “X”) twisted into a case of… bullying(?) one of the two presenters, fellow singer Halle Bailey. While being presented the moon person for Best Afrobeats, she expressed surprise at the weight of the statuette, joking, “I’m not strong enough!”

Offering the moon person to Lil Nas X, who was presenting alongside Halle, Tyla asked, “Can you hold it for me?” Twitter promptly lit up with accusations that she wanted Halle to hold it for her (although Nas was the one who ended up taking it). “Halle said baby I am NOT the help,” wrote one commentewrote one commenter Hold your own award boo. Tyla tried it.” Another added, “Halle tried handing her the cards & she brushed her off but expected her to hold her award.”

Tyla herself, though, wasn’t having any of it, shutting down such speculation with an astute observation: “Y’all make everything weird… I was not asking my girl Halle… We just girls.” She also offered those detractors some friendly advice: “STFU I WON A VMAAAA.”

Ever since her single “Water” became a ubiquitous hit, Tyla has become something of a lightning rod for manufactured controversy. In a recent interview with the Breakfast Club, she was asked a question about her coloured identity — which she had specifically asked them not to do — and before that, she was criticized for taking a photo with Representative Nancy Pelosi by fans who disagreed with Pelosi’s policies (if they even know what those polices are).

Earlier this week, Taylor Swift took to Instagram to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States. She penned a lengthy message about Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, explaining how she feels as though their values align with hers. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” she wrote. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”

Swift’s post prompted a response from Elon Musk, who took the opportunity to shoot his shot. “Fine, Taylor, you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” he said. For obvious reasons, most social media users found his Tweet extremely creepy, including Azealia Banks.

Pharrell Wished Chad Hugo ‘The Absolute Best,’ Despite The Neptunes No Longer Speaking

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Pharrell Williams confirmed that he and his former production partner Chad Hugo, with whom he’d collaborated as The Neptunes throughout the late ’90s and 2000s, are no longer on speaking terms after Hugo filed a lawsuit against him over the use of their group name.

When asked about the status of their relationship, Pharrell replied only, “I always wish him the absolute best.” Pressed about whether the two are on speaking terms, he admitted, “No. But I love him, and I always wish him the absolute best, and I’m very grateful for our time together.”

The Neptunes collectively produced dozens of hits throughout their tenure as a hotly demanded duo, working with Beyoncé, Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Ludacris, Nelly, Snoop Dogg, and more. The duo also formed two-thirds of the experimental rock trio N.E.R.D. with Shay Haley, producing five albums from 2001 to 2017.

Hugo sued Williams in April after Pharrell allegedly filed for trademarks for the Neptunes’ name without including his former partner. Chad’s attorneys said this violated their standing agreement to split the group’s profits 50/50, while Pharrell’s reps argued that they had attempted to contact Hugo several times with no success.

Despite not speaking to Pharrell, Chad’s voice will be heard in Pharrell’s animated biopic, Piece By Piece, which uses documentary interviews with collaborators like Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar, who weren’t informed of its animated nature.

Big Sean is a humble guy. He brags a lot in his raps, but he’s generally considered to be one of the coolest rappers of his generation when it comes to personability. He’s deferential to the people who inspired him, even when they aren’t reciprocating (i.e. Kanye West). Sean has always held Eminem in high regard, especially given their shared hometown of Detroit. Big Sean and Em collaborated on the single “Tobey” earlier this year, and the former made it clear that it was a huge deal for him.

Big Sean talked about the collaboration on the VMA’s red carpet. Eminem performed at the event, and Sean Don took the time to give the Detroit legend his flowers. “I’m happy to be a part of that album as well. For sure, for sure,” he told Billboard. Sean also revealed that The Slim Shady LP was the first album he ever bought. He idolized Eminem, and felt that working on The Death of Slim Shady was a nice bit of symmetry for him personally. “It was the first album I bought from Costco with my birthday money,” the rapper recalled. “That was way back. To be on The Death of Slim Shady was a full-circle moment.”

Big Sean Claims The Slim Shady LP Was His First CD

A lot has changed in the 25 years since The Slim Shady LP dropped. Sean has had a stellar career, one that Eminem himself has praised. Em cited Big Sean, alongside J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, as the artists who inspire him to keep rapping in 2022. “What I hyper-focus on is people like Kendrick Lamar, Joyner Lucas, J. Cole and Big Sean,” he told People Magazine. “Watching them and how the f*ck they’re doing their sh*t. Because they’re also focused on being the best rappers.”

Big Sean also talked about the reception to his own album at the VMAs. Better Me Than You has not performed as well as the rapper’s previous releases. Well, that’s putting it mildly. It garnered the lowest selling first week sales of his entire career, at just 22K. Despite this disappointing stat, Big Sean remains steadfast in the album’s quality. “Its a fire a*s album,” he told VMA reporters. “Slightly being a little slept on to me but you know the fans is locked in.”

One of the posts claimed that her team had “devastating news” about the personality, and the other revealed that she was in the ICU. Of course, some fans were immediately suspicious, as her death has been faked in the past. Despite this, whoever’s running her X account insists their claims are legit. They shut down a community note claiming that her health scare was a hoax today.

“This community note is by a random kid, the note is extremely immoral and hateful,” Lil Tay’s account wrote. “Especially as Lil Tay is dealing with a life-threatening emergency.” They went on to retweet a supportive post from one fan, who said Lil Tay hinted at having a condition in a merch drop a few months ago.

Diddy Files Emergency Motion To Dismiss $100 Million Lawsuit

Diddy is trying to avoid paying $100 million to Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith. The disgraced mogul was recently ordered to pay the plaintiff over claims of sexual assault dating back to 1997. It looks as though he’s trying to find a legal workaround, however. TMZ reported that Diddy filed an emergency motion to get the Cardello-Smith’s lawsuit thrown, thereby nullifying the payment. The reasoning? He claims that he was never technically served the lawsuit by Cardello-Smith or his legal team.

Per TMZ, Diddy asserts that he was not aware of the lawsuit until media outlets reached out to him for comment. The mogul is also claiming that the statute of limitations has expired, since Cardello-Smith never served him in the first place. The outlet notes that Diddy’s motion would effectively kill two birds with one stone if effective. It would mean the Bad Boy founder doesn’t have to pay $100 million. It would also mean that he could deny all accusations made against him. For context, Cardello-Smith claims that Diddy spiked his drink at a party, and when he woke up, the latter joked about having had assaulted him.

Diddy Allegedly Assaulted The Plaintiff In 1997

This is not the first attempt that Diddy has made to discredit Cardello-Smith’s claims. The producer’s legal team pointed to Cardello-Smith’s criminal record and personal history as a means of discrediting his lawsuit. “The man who filed it is a convicted rapist,” Diddy’s legal team noted in a statement. “Who is lying about all of the allegations in the lawsuit.” It’s likely that Diddy is trying to get out of his financial obligation to Cardello-Smith before he’s required to make his first payment. According to the court, he will have to pay the convict $10 million a month starting in October.

Diddy has more legal problems around the corner. Dawn Richards, a former member of the girl group Danity Kane, sued the mogul for sexual assault and battery on September 10. The singer claimed that Diddy assaulted her, deprived her of sleep, and refused to pay her what she was owed. Furthermore, Richards asserts that she witnessed the Bad Boy founder assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, in many instances.
