Partway through their hit “Empire State Of Mind,” Lil Mama ran onstage, despite Beyonce’s attempts to hold her back. For a few moments, she danced along, and even hit a final pose with the duo. This earned the “Lip Gloss” MC quite a bit of backlash, as countless outlets put her on blast for the incident in the following days.

During a recent appearance on The Jay Hill Podcast, Lil Mama reflected on the infamous stage-crashing, revealing that it took a serious toll on her mental health. She recalled receiving a call from Tyrese, who asked about her impromptu appearance, the morning after the awards show. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning, as the moment soon became one of the hottest subjects of debate from the awards show.

Lil Mama Reveals Stage-Crashing Fallout Made Her “Depressed”

“I had to deal with Ed Lover on the radio in the morning, Wendy Williams, Angie Martinez, who talked to JAY, and he was just like, ‘Yeah, you know. I didn’t like it.’ He was so angry and I was just trying my best to do everything I could do. After a while, I was like, ‘Forgive yourself, bro. Move forward,’” she explained. “Bro, I was hurt. I was depressed. I was like, ‘Yo, what’s going on?’ And then you got everybody telling you, ‘You’re doing bad.’ People pointing at you, like, ‘What did you do?’”

Usher Admits His Bootylicious Dance Moves Featuring Nicki Minaj’s Butt At The 2014 VMAs Were Inappropriate

Above all else, Usher Raymond IV is a showman. The “Ruin” singer’s memorizing capabilities have been on full display in the last few years alone. Just look at the clips circulating from his record-setting My Way Residency in Las Vegas. But sometimes he’s so caught in the theatrics, he could overstep a few boundaries. Although Usher doesn’t find anything wrong with his passionate embrace of Alicia Keys during the Superbowl LVIII Halftime Show, he has voiced some regret over another performance.

On February 19, while chatting with Power 105.1 FM’s The Breakfast Club, Usher admitted that he crossed the line when he slapped Nicki Minaj’s butt back at the VMAs over a decade ago. As the pair performed their 2014 song “She Came To Give It To You,” off Usher’s album Hard II Love, he went overboard as he attempted to make Minaj’s derrière a focal point of the set.

“That was Jamaican culture,” he said. “So you gotta go to Jamaica. That was just a moment that was fun. By the way, it was me playing my bass, so I probably would’ve bumped my shoulder or my hand, but I had my bass in my hand, and I was playing, so I kind of bopped off her body a little bit. If you go back and look at the video, you’ll understand because I did it there for the first time. That was a little bit of Jamaican culture.”

Initially, Usher didn’t appear to be apologetic, but he eventually noticed the flaws in his actions. “I think I was reaching a bit when I smacked her, though,” he said. “I shouldn’t have smacked her butt. I shouldn’t have did that.”

On stage, Minaj visibly showed that she did not appreciate being inappropriately touched in that manner. Instead of making a scene during the performance, she took it to the booth taking a few jabs at him on her 2020 song, “Trollz” with 6ix9ine.

SZA Is The Latest Performer Announced For The 2024 Grammys Ceremony

Music’s biggest night is nearly here. As the industry’s heavyweights prepare for the 2024 Grammys, fans eagerly await more details about the ceremony. On January 29, the Recording Academy revealed that the evening’s performers list has grown yet again.

Via a post on X (formerly Twitter), it’s been revealed that “Kill Bill” singer SZA will perform. “You don’t want to snooze and miss this moment!” wrote the organization. “Watch SZA at the 66th Grammys on February 4 at 8 p.m. Eastern / 5 p.m. Pacific on CBS.”

As SZA is the evening’s most nominated act, her participation makes sense. Appearing at the Grammys carries significant meaning for SZA. During an interview with Rolling Stone, her manager and label head, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, reportedly pulled her scheduled performance at the 2023 MTV VMAs over feeling underappreciated.

Over the weekend, the news was shared that Joni Mitchell would make her Grammy performance debut at this year’s ceremony. Other musicians set to take the stage at the 2024 Grammys include Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Travis Scott, Luke Combs, and Burna Boy.

Megan Thee Stallion says that she’s starting a new chapter in her life, one absent of social media. She discussed the feeling of being in a “fresh space” during an interview with ET published on Tuesday. The discussion comes after she performed alongside Cardi B at the MTV Video Music Awards to showcase their new collaboration, “Bongos.”

“I feel like I’m in such a fresh space, like everything about me is new,” Megan told the outlet. “My attitude, my vibe. I feel like I’m starting a new chapter in my life. I think I’ve just gone through so much and I’m at a point where I don’t care about a lot of stuff. I’m just so comfortable with myself. I’m like, ‘OK, at this point, girl, what’s the worst thing that can happen?’ I’m just into taking risks right now.”

Megan went on to say that being off social media, she hasn’t been taking inspiration from anybody because she’s got “no clue” what’s going on. “I don’t have any inspiration from anybody out right now [because] I feel like as an artist, you see other artists doing things and it’s like, ‘Oh my god, I got to keep up,’” she added. “I have no clue what anybody’s doing, so the music that I been making, it feels good to me.” Megan also says that her lack of an online presence meant she didn’t even know about the rumored drama between herself and Justin Timberlake.

Either way, Megan says she’s reached a place where she is truly in love with herself. “I always like to think of myself as a confident person, I always [act] that I didn’t care about much, I was nonchalant, but it took me to go through things where so many people were talking about me constantly, to where I had to realize, ‘OK, maybe you’re not as nonchalant and carefree as you thought you were,’” she admitted. “So, I had to take a step back [and] reevaluate myself. I had to get in a comfortable position with myself, and now I genuinely can say that I’m in love with Megan. I’m in love with Megan Thee Stallion.”

As Page Six reports, the gossip has only escalated since Bailey stepped out for the MTV VMAs earlier this week. “Halle stayed away from the pink carpet so she would not be photographed, and when she was inside, she was very mindful in the way she gave hugs, and who she gave them to,” an insider alleged to the outlet. “She would keep her distance when someone got too close, and she gave out more handshakes than her [usual] enduring embraces,” they added. Both Halle and her older sister, Chloe, took to the stage together to introduce Maneskin’s performance and posed for photos with other famous faces throughout the evening.

Regardless if she’s with child or not, Halle Bailey recently confirmed that her debut solo EP will be arriving on streamers before 2023 is up. Her first single, “Angel,” was a massive success. This past weekend’s 2023 MTV VMAs were full of surprises, like Madonna’s 34-year-old commercial and supposed beef between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake (which was quickly debunked). The most surprising element of the evening for Ice Spice appears to be herself, as she was shocked about how her body looked in a photo she saw.

Recently, Ice Spice shared a photo of herself and Taylor Swift hugging at the VMAs, and in the picture, both artists are shown from the side. Ice Spice was apparently surprised to see how her profile looked as she tweeted, “damn i aint kno i was that thick hold on.” The post has proven to be popular, as it’s been seen over 35 million times on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Ice Spice had a good night at the VMAs. She won the Best New Artist award and had three other nominations: Push Performance Of The Year for “Princess Diana” and two nods in Song Of The Summer, for her and Nicki Minaj’s Barbie movie song “Barbie World” and her and Swift’s “Karma.” Her and Ben Affleck’s new Dunkin’ commercial also debuted during the broadcast.

We do not need to overthink what happened at Tuesday’s (September 12) 2023 MTV Video Music Awards: Saweetie is great, and teleprompters are not.

Saweetie hosted the VMAs pre-show and was a presenter during MTV’s broadcast. Saweetie stuttered while tossing the pre-show to a commercial break, as posted by a fan account on X (formerly known as Twitter). In the time between that understandable mishap and Saweetie’s reappearance during the 2023 MTV VMAs to introduce a performance from Stray Kids, some people roasted her online.

“Hey, what’s up, y’all? It’s me again,” Saweetie said (as shown in a clip posted to X by BET). “And y’all better stop making my little stutter video go viral. I see what you’re doin’. Anyways, let’s try it again!”

Saweetie has been teasing her debut album, Pretty B*tch Music, for at least two years. In March, she explained the album’s ongoing delay to E! News.

“I feel like a debut album is not something you just put out,” Saweetie said. “It’s not something you play with. I’m a Cancer, so I like to overthink sometimes, but I think you have to be really careful with that, and I take my art really serious.”

Selena Gomez can relate. Gomez, sitting next to her “Calm Down” collaborator Rema, did not appear pleased when Chris Brown was announced as a nominee for Best R&B. Video of her reaction circulated (and is still circulating) online, and she later wrote on her since-expired Instagram Story, “I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love.”

SZA’s Sizzles In White Dress As She Thanks MTV For Her Latest Award

SZA has been keeping busy as of late. Just last week the R&B songstress announced that an extended version of her fantastic record, SOS, will be out before the end of 2023. The album is doing massive numbers with songs like “Kill Bill,” “Snooze,” “Open Arms,” “Good Days,” and plenty of others. The singing queen made this news public at one of her shows in New York City. She shouted out to the crowd, “The deluxe is like a whole nother album. It’s called LANA. It’s 7-10 songs. And it’ll be out this fall!” While there is no release date for it, we cannot wait for that to come out in the near future.

On top of that, the artist also got tied into an awkward situation with streamer Kai Cenat. Offset was giving the young buck some pointers on how to get her attention and that did not bode well. SZA wound up blocking Cenat on Instagram, which resulted in a tragic but funny reaction. Now, she is killing it by taking home some hardware at the 2023 MTV VMAs the other night. The hitmaker nabbed the Best R&B award for her song “Shirt” off of SOS.

Twerking has become some a regular practice in what would otherwise be inappropriate situations as it was when reality show regular Sukihana got down on all fours on the red carpet at this year’s VMA and started her rump shake routine. Suki posted a video of her twerk, captioning, “My first @vmas y’all knew who I was when y’all invited me #sukihana #vmas.” 

The problem arose when former “Flavor of Love” star Deelishis criticized Suki’s booty bounce on the red carpet, commenting on her video, “Too many outdoor shoes been on the carpet buttercup.” Sukihana replied to Deelishis, saying, “Girl, you was sleeping with Flavor [Flav} you ain’t scared of nothing.” Sukihana reposted her comment with the caption, “Ate her up.”

Slaying sisters and superior singers Chloe Bailey and Halle Balley know how to dress for any event. They could make sweatpants and oversized t-shirts look like the hottest trend in the fashion industry. While they would never pull up to an award show wearing that, both of them stunned once again. The VMAs last night brought out a ton of stars. Offset was there to support his girl, Cardi B, for her “Bongos” performance.” Another was Justin Timberlake. However, Halle and Chloe were there having a great time it seems with no drama, for now. The two were in attendance to enjoy the festivities and to hand out some trophies to some lucky artists.
