Lil Tjay’s Attorney Addresses Gang Indictment Rumors

Yesterday, rumors that Lil Tjay was named in a federal gang indictment began to spread like wildfire. It was reported that he and roughly 20 others were accused of being members of the $laughtery Gang, and allegedly responsible for 14 shootings in the Bronx. Footage of authorities raiding what was referred to as a “criminal commune” in a Bronx apartment also surfaced online. The raid resulted in eight arrests.

Of course, these rumors had fans concerned, but Lil Tjay’s legal counsel recently took to social media to shut them down. Yesterday, the performer’s attorney Dawn Florio shared a statement regarding the rumors, confirming that they’re not true. “We are aware of several news outlets that have shared false information regarding his legal matters, and we wish to address these inaccuracies,” the statement begins.

“We urge all media outlets to exercise caution and ensure proper due diligence before publishing speculative or unfounded claims. Reporting inaccurate information not only damages reputations but misleads the public,” it continues. “At this time, we will not be offering further comment on the situation.” While Lil Tjay’s supporters are certainly relieved now that this has been cleared up, some others may not be. Amid rumors that he was named in the indictment, 6ix9ine hopped online to share what many think was a response.

The post in question was a simple black screen on his Instagram Story, flooded with laughing emojis. Lil Tjay just gifted 6ix9ine’s ex-girlfriend a chain shortly after their breakup, which could explain the animosity. Rod Wave Previews Drake Collab: “GOAT”

Fans of Rod Wave are probably pretty familiar with his love of Drake, and their musical similarities are easy to identify. They both can deliver soulful vocals over melancholy atmospheres, and they’ve had some chances to link up in the past. Now, it seems like those opportunities finally manifested themselves into something concrete. Moreover, Wave recently previewed a new song with the 6ix God on his Instagram Story, captioning it with a goat emoji and a turtle emoji. The Toronto superstar flows mellowly over a drill-inspired instrumental and croons about even best friends having to end sometimes. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Before we get ahead of ourselves, though, do we really need to tie these lyrics into the great rap beef of 2024 yet again? We don’t think so. Beyond that, it’s just exciting to see these two artists work together in their new eras, as it seems like this might land on Rod Wave’s next album. As for Drake, this new tease indicates that he’s still putting in a lot of work for the rest of the year, so we’ll see what other updates emerge on that. After all, OVO die-hards apparently have a PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album to look forward to from The Boy.

Everybody else, I done met them, I done worked with them. It might change over time, but Ed Sheeran and Drake, I got to f**k with Drake. I know bro super busy. That s**t would be crazy. IDK Raps With Confidence & Hunger On “KiCKIN”

IDK is someone you can predict to be unpredictable. He can rap and sing and he’s always messing around with sonics. However, for this newest album roll out, the Maryland artist is taking a more contemporary approach. The production styles thus far have been very crisp and clean with the current sound palette being a mix of trap and boom-bap. “DENiM” got the ball rolling, and it had a nice appearance from Joey Bada$$. Then we got to hear IDK work with one of the biggest producers and ATL spitters of this generation on “TiFFANY”. The unofficial duo of Turbo and Gunna proved to pair nicely with the lead MC.

Now, for the third record, IDK is riding solo on “KiCKIN”. Again, though, he’s rapping over some more familiar trap soundscapes, with a nice change-up with chimes which is pleasant on the ears. As far as the lyrical content goes, IDK is giving you lots of brags and chants of “Can’t touch this, can’t touch this, can’t touch this“. Additionally, there’s some charismatic bars sprinkled in like, “They see what I’m whippin’, they pullin’ me over / They ask what I’m doin’, like Yachty and Ian, I’m thuggin’“. Eminem Brings On WESTSIDE BOOGIE & GRIP For A “Shady Edition” Of “Fuel”

WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP are two names on Eminem’s Shady Records that have shown off just how gifted they are. Both have great lyrical abilities and those are on full display on “Fuel – Shady Edition”. If you heard the original version of The Death of Slim Shady, you would remember that Eminem and JID shared the song of the same name. Overall, it’s one of the biggest highlights, if not the biggest, for us on the album.

At first, the debate was purely between who had the stronger verse on the inaugural “Fuel”. Some were even dubbing JID the winner and labeling it the best guest appearance of the year. Now, that back-and-forth has to be extended to just which version is more complete. WESTSIDE BOOGIE and GRIP make the most of their time on this tweaked track, rapping with elite proficiency about being counted out but never out for the count. Of course, sticking to “Fuel” “tradition”, Em’s got more bars for Diddy. We are also messing with the slightly darker and more low-key production switch-up too. In the end, we need some more listens, but the “Shady Edition” is giving the original a run for its money.

Playboi Carti and Adin Ross have a pretty complicated relationship these days. This is because of their disastrous livestream from back in February that allegedly cost the streamer $2 million for just about ten minutes of very limited conversation with the Atlanta creative. Since then, Ross hasn’t been very pro-Carti. That being said, feelings change over time, and the new hype behind his I AM MUSIC album rollout could change this dynamic somewhat. Moreover, the Kick giant’s reaction to the new track “ALL RED” shows that he can separate his personal experiences with the artist from his enjoyment of the music itself.

“Nah, this s**t hard, though,” Adin Ross said at one point of his recent livestream, and Playboi Carti even responded to this via his Instagram account. “@adinross YOU AINT GOT TO LIKE ME BUT I RESPECT YOU KEEPING IT REAL ABOUT MY MUSIC SOME S**T JUST UNDENIABLE,” he captioned a post of a screenshot of Ross’ stream. Carti’s new track wasn’t as well received by everyone, though, but the social media personality’s short words on the subject actually sum up the general consensus quite well.

However, “ALL RED” also resulted in some legitimate confusion, albeit mostly critical comparisons. Fans couldn’t tell whether or not this was a new Playboi Carti song or a new Future track, pointing out the vocal and flow similarities between both rappers. Carti’s usually someone who pulls from his own unique arsenal of voices, but this deep-voiced experimentation might be his riskiest vocal move yet. Either way, there are plenty of other fans who love this style and how it’s evolved from early displays like “FE!N.” Actually, it’s wild to think how little time it took for this to become a trademark sound in the King Vamp catalog.

Nevertheless, if you still feel like he sounds like Future, we understand. Regardless, Adin Ross’ reaction to “ALL RED” shows that things don’t always have to stay personal, resulting in mutual respect. Elsewhere, Playboi Carti also hyped up more collaborations with Kanye West on I AM MUSIC (or just MUSIC? We’ll find out…). There’s a lot to express excitement over these days, so let’s just be patient for what’s to come.

Talib Kweli Teams Up With Producer J. Rawls For “The Confidence Of Knowing”

Talib Kweli is a legend in the hip-hop game thanks to his wide range of talents and ability to work with so many different artists. The Black Star and Reflection Eternal affiliate has been pretty active over the last two years in terms of singles and projects and this weekend he’s continuing that trend. Talib Kweli has just dropped off The Confidence Of Knowing, which is being advertised as album number 10.

However, he’s not releasing this 13-song effort alone, though. Columbus, Ohio underground producer J. Rawls is here too. Here, he’s tasked with laying down East Coast beats on every cut and there’s a nice mixture of sounds to be had. Of course, on top of that, Talib is bringing some food for thought and clever bars like these on one of the lead singles, “Native Sons”. “Bragging about material objects with people starving, bruh / And that’s why the phrase “eat the rich” is so popular / Please, these elitists can never defeat the populace“. There’s also some solid guests on the docket. IDK, Rass Kass, Blu, Planet Asia, and Jimetta Rose are a few of the multi-talented sidekicks. Overall, there’s a lot to like and Talib is showing that he’s still got more than enough juice for the 2020’s decade.

Babyface Ray Keeps It Real & Chill On “The Kid That Did”

Babyface Ray might not be a rapper that’s on everyone’s radar, but to us, he’s really making a nice statement with The Kid That Did. This is the Detroit, Michigan native’s latest project and it comes on the heels of 2023’s Summer’s Mine. In terms of singles, it was led by quite a few. The roll out began back in March with “Money On My Mind” and “Shy Kid”. Then, things would continue a couple of months later with a July two-pack of “Ghetto Boyz” and “Rubberband Man”.

Finally, Babyface Ray would wrap things up with “Count Money” and then Wavy Navy University on Monday. Overall, we feel that the laid-back veteran is sounding perhaps better than he ever has. Throughout the 20 songs here, he’s dropping some simple yet effective lyrical gems, keeping things real with the listener. Furthermore, the production is excellent and that helps when you have stars like Boi-1da, DJ ESCO, and Pooh Beatz in the fold. It’s wavy and crisp and it also feels kind of fresh while also paying some respects to the sounds that have been created in the blue-collar city. There’s a lot of standout tracks, with some our favorites being the Veeze-assisted “Wavy Navy University” and “Watching My Page”.
