Pusha T Essential Songs

With his sharp and unashamed look at street life, Pusha T, born Terrence Thornton, has left an unforgettable legacy in hip hop. From his earlier days as half of Clipse up to his celebrated solo career, Pusha T provides a guide on how to tell stories through music. He is the epitome of authentic rap. For those who have been following his journey and are interested in knowing more about him, these are the five most essential songs that best portray what Pusha T is all about.

Further, he has maintained a remarkable industry identity over time by being flexible but still sticking to his true self. Pusha T’s path represents both himself and the broader story of street life, showing its complexities, struggles, and glory. These tracks offer insight into Pusha T’s life, illustrating how much he has grown as an artist.

1. Grindin’ (With Clipse) (2002)

Pusha T and Malice, known together as Clipse, shot to the upper echelons of hip-hop stardom with their hit single “Grindin’.” Coming out in 2002, this breakout song from their first album, entitled Lord Willin’, became a classic thanks to its unmistakable beat. The song’s stripped-down production by The Neptunes perfectly complements Pusha T’s grimy rhymes about the daily hustle.

“Grindin’” also had an instant impact that was felt across the board, and it only served to cement Clipse’s position within rap. Pusha T’s bold delivery, along with his ability to tell stories, connected powerfully with his listeners. To date, this remains one of his trademark songs. It captures who he was when he just started out rapping, telling us more about how talented he is lyrically speaking.

2. “Numbers On The Boards” (2013)

In his debut album, My Name Is My Name, Pusha T demonstrated through the track “Numbers on the Boards” that he is a highly skilled solo rap artist. The 2013 song served as an introductory single for My Name Is My Name. To be more precise, it was marked by an unconventional rhythm and a very simple approach to the production. This was also represented a perfect background for Pusha T’s clever wordplay.

Here, Pusha T showed more of his potential as a solo artist amidst a crowded field. He rapped confidently, which signaled his preparedness to face adversities in the music industry without assistance from anyone else. Fans still love “Numbers on the Boards” because it shows what Pusha T intended to achieve with his art while also showcasing how good he is lyrically, even though you cannot see him.

3. “Nosetalgia” (With Kendrick Lamar) (2013)

Pusha T’s and Kendrick Lamar’s “Nosetalgia” is an autobiographical jam that takes minds deep into the recesses of their souls. It was released in 2013 as a part of My Name Is My Name, with both artists taking turns to describe what they went through on the streets during childhood. The verses from Pusha T have an unfiltered quality that stands out against the equally graphical narration from Lamar.

Moreover, Push and Lamar’s collaboration on “Nosetalgia” demonstrates the meaning of being a lyricist who paints vivid pictures. Both rappers’ experiences interweave this track, providing a thought-provoking piece that touches people’s hearts. With songs like this, Pusha T has proved his skill at telling excellent stories in music. It further makes him one of hip-hop’s most respected rappers.

4. “If You Know You Know” (2018)

“If You Know You Know” opens Pusha T’s 2018 album DAYTONA with a bold declaration of self-assurance. Kanye West’s minimalist production provides a stark yet powerful backdrop for Pusha T’s incisive lyrics. This track also sets the tone for the rest of the album, showcasing his ability to deliver concise, impactful storytelling with every bar.

The song quickly became a fan favorite, celebrated for its clever wordplay and unapologetic swagger. “If You Know You Know” encapsulates Pusha T’s mastery of his craft, reaffirming his status as one of hip hop’s elite. This track is a powerful introduction to DAYTONA, highlighting Pusha T’s lyrical dexterity and unwavering self-belief.

5. “The Story Of Adidon” (2018)

“The Story of Adidon” is one of the most talked-about tracks in Pusha T’s career. It was aimed squarely at his long-time rival, Drake. Released in 2018, this diss track features Pusha T delivering unflinching lyrics that delve into Drake’s personal life and career. The song’s impact was immediate and widespread, reigniting their feud and capturing hip-hop’s attention.

The intensity and boldness of “The Story of Adidon” highlight Pusha T’s fearless approach to his craft. The track’s confrontation and unfiltered bars demonstrate his willingness to tackle controversial subjects head-on. This song remains significant in Pusha T’s discography, showcasing his lyrical prowess and uncompromising attitude.

SosMula Impersonates A Maniacal Villain On “SLEEZY BASTARD (SLASHER PT. 1)”

SosMula possesses maybe the most unique mic presence in the world of hip-hop. His raspy and high pitch cadence closely resembles that of a cartoon villain. That is not really a slight, as it perfectly matches the subgenre of rap that he has been thriving in for the last several years. His roots in the horrorcore/metal trap run deep, as most of his career has centered around the work he has with ZillaKami. This seemingly inseparable pairing unfortunately felt it was time to go solo after dropping their 2023 tape, My Bloody America. But things are still looking good for SosMula, as he now has another single out called “SLEEZY BASTARD (SLASHER PT. 1)”.

Interestingly, the Brazilian-American rapper put out the second entry in this two-track series first a few weeks ago. This looks to be the second single for SLEEZE RELIGION, his first solo album since 2 HIGH 2 DIE in 2022. While SosMula does do a great job of being entertaining and animated on “SLEEZY BASTARD”, we cannot help but notice the flows which are similar to 6ix9ine’s on “GUMMO”. Verse number two is definitely where we hear it the most but let us know what you think. As of now, there is no official release date for this project, but Genius predicts it will drop in July.

Turk Blasts BG For Dissing His Absence At Cash Money Reunion

You probably have noticed that there’s a storm brewing within Cash Money and the Hot Boys specifically, as the collective seems a bit fractured. Moreover, Birdman hosted a label reunion at the Essence Festival recently, but not only did Lil Wayne have a solo set instead of performing alongside his crew, but Turk of the Hot Boys was not present at all. He said he wouldn’t go and cited business issues as his reasoning, something that B.G. was not happy with at all. He blasted his group mate on social media, and now that we have a response from Turk, we can understand what’s going on a little better… emphasis on “little.”

It’s only one n***a ain’t in this b***h, you heard me?” B.G. expressed on Instagram Live, seemingly addressing Turk’s absence at the reunion. “He brought that on his self, you heard me? N***a did a bunch of h*e s**t and can’t take it back. He gotta fault his self for not being here. I know there’s gonna be a lot of people that’s like, ‘Oh, well, such and such, whoop de whoop.’ The n***a know what he did last summer. And I’ma just leave it like that.”

Turk & BG Diss Each Other Online

“You n***as want that s**t to come together because you n***as f***ed up outchea,” Turk clapped back online. “I ain’t f***ed up outchea. I’m blessed and highly favored by God. Y’all got me f***ed up. I’ll say f**k a Hot Boys tour, n***a. Disrespect won’t be tolerated, n***a. I don’t give a f**k who a n***a is. Ain’t no Big I’s or Lil U’s over me, mane. B.G. better sit his motherf***ing a** down somewhere, man. That n***a don’t run s**t round here, not with me.

“He might run that s**t with you n***as, he don’t run that s**t with me,” Turk continued against B.G. “He ain’t doing nothing but running his motherf***ing mouth. Them wack a** raps, man. That s**t wack, n***a. All you n***as d**k-riding around here, man. That s**t wack. That’s why the n***a gotta play all these motherf***ing games. He tryna get some time off motherf***ing [clout].”

50 Cent Shades Rick Ross to Fans At Canadian Concert: “I can’t believe what y’all did”

image

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson made a stop in Canada on Saturday, July 6, where he performed and celebrated his 49th birthday. The now viral video of his performance surfaced on Monday, July 8, showing the rapper making light of Rick Ross’ recent altercation at Vancouver’s Ignite Festival. I mean we know Fiddy just can’t help himself when it comes to shading his ops.

“I can’t believe what y’all did to Rick Ross. You f**ked him up,” 50 Cent joked with the audience, pretending to spot the attacker in the crowd. “Who was it, you did it? There he go right there!… Who said Canada was soft? Who said that sh*t?”

50 Cent posted a brief Instagram clip on Sunday, July 7, referencing Ross’ situation. The “Power” mogul expressed his appreciation for his Canadian fans, saying, “They f**k with me out here. They beat Rick Ross the f**k up.” The video also featured Uncle Murda, who chimed in with, “We’re going to Canada, and we ain’t them other ni**as, you heard.”

Rick Ross in damage control mode, recently addressed the attack by Canadian goons in a humorous Instagram Story on Thursday, July 4. The “Biggest Bawse” recounted the incident, denying that he was punched in the face.

“Let me tell you something: When the first dude stepped up to Rozay—the little short fat one that looked like Bam Bam Bigelow from wrestling—when he stepped up… I squat down to his eyes and I said, ‘Boy, if I hit you, you gon see everything you ate for the last few days.’ His balls dropped out of his a**, he never said another word, he never did nothing he was a straight busta. Then the ni**a behind him said, ‘I KNOW MMAyyyyyye.’ And then I got hit with a drink. I’m still convinced ain’t no ni**a punch me.”

Okay …

ICYMI, the altercation occurred at Vancouver’s Ignite Music Festival on Sunday, June 30, after Ross ended his set by playing Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” As Rozay left the stage, a group of Drake fans confronted him and his team, leading to a brawl. Video footage captured one of the men hitting Ross, prompting his bodyguards and entourage to intervene.

And of course 50 Cent seized the moment. And that he did. Sold out show from the looks of it, on his birthday no less. Winning.

NCAA Removes Cannabis from Banned List of Drugs in Postseason Play for Some Athletes

image

The NCAA, the premier authority in intercollegiate sports, has announced the removal of marijuana and cannabis products from the list of banned substances for college football’s postseason and all Division I championships.

“The NCAA drug testing program is intended to focus on integrity of competition, and cannabis products do not provide a competitive advantage,” stated Josh Whitman, chair of NCAA’s Division I Council and the athletic director at the University of Illinois. “The council’s focus is on policies centered on student-athlete health and well-being rather than punishment for cannabis use.”

Here are some key points from the new measure:

As of Tuesday, the NCAA no longer classifies marijuana and cannabis products as banned substances for Division I championships and postseason football.

Removing cannabinoids from the banned drug list separates it from other substances like stimulants, anabolic steroids, narcotics, diuretics, drug masking agents, and growth hormones.

This decision follows the NCAA’s Committee on Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports’ recommendation to remove cannabinoids from the banned substance list across all three NCAA divisions.

In a 2023 survey, approximately 26% of student-athletes reported cannabis use.

“We know that the previous cannabinoid policies and sanctions were not an effective deterrent to cannabinoid use,” said Deena Casiero, the vice chair of the committee and head team physician at UConn, in November. “We should be focusing on student-athletes who have or are at risk for cannabis use disorder. Randomly testing at NCAA championships is not the best way to identify or help student-athletes with use issues. The best way is to encourage schools to educate and test within an established harm-reduction strategy in their local spaces.”

Unsurprisingly, this policy change also aligns with recent federal and state actions regarding cannabis.

Last month, President Joe Biden officially moved to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous substance, marking a significant shift in the nation’s drug policy. Additionally, earlier this month, Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced over 175,000 pardons for marijuana convictions, one of the largest acts of cannabis clemency in the country.

Get this, these changes come after the NCAA conducted a study on student-athlete substance use, surveying over 23,000 student-athletes nationwide.

Here’s more data: The study revealed an increase in cannabis use among student-athletes, with 26% reporting use, up from 22% in 2013 and 25% in 2017. Cannabis use was found to be highest in men’s sports, at the Division III level, and among athletes at schools where cannabis is legal for recreational and medicinal use. However, cannabis use among student-athletes remains lower compared to the general undergraduate population, which is around 40% according to other surveys cited by the NCAA.

Score a win for Cannabis proponents but critics will sure to have a say. Let’s see how it unfolds.

ScHoolboy Q Holds “Groovy Tony / Eddie Kane” In High Regard & We See Why: Revisiting It Eight Years Later

The aggressive nature of gangsta rap and hardcore hip-hop is something that ScHoolboy Q embodies. Of course, growing up in California helps, as he was around that style of genre growing up. Over the course of his frankly underrated career, Q has not just copied and pasted these subsets for the modern fan. He has truly formed a unique approach since getting his feet wet in the music industry over a decade ago. His third studio album Oxymoron saw him take that West Coast sound and make it slightly more accessible for fans with songs like “Collard Greens” and Studio”. But ScHoolboy Q’s now eight-year-old project Blank Face LP took a more innovative step, and “Groovy Tony / Eddie Kane” is a prime example of his creative genius.

While the instrumental on the previous album single did/does not turn reinvent the wheel per se, it still absolutely bangs. The eerie whispers of “Blank Face” play really nicely with the ghostly tones, dirty drums, and Q’s animated flows. If you remember, the single version was just the “Groovy Tony” side and there was no feature. While the track did not necessarily require the latter to succeed, the addition of Jadakiss was pure genius. His trademark cadence fits snuggly without ruining the momentum. On the “Eddie Kane” half, the raspy and soulful singing from Dem Jointz, along with the even darker production take things to another level. ScHoolboy Q views this song as one his favorites from Blank Face LP and so do we without a doubt.

Yungeen Ace Avoids Gun Charges After Foolio’s Alleged Killer Accuses Him Of Placing The Hit

As a pretty big problem seems to form for Yungeen Ace (real name Keyanta Bullard), he’s getting rid of another headache in the legal system to clear his to-do list up. Moreover, per Action News Jax, prosecutors abandoned the gun charges case against him on July 3, which stemmed from an April arrest this year. “E-Traces were completed for the firearms but provided no evidence to associate the firearms with Bullard,” prosecutors expressed. “Bullard’s phone was recovered, but after review, a search warrant was not sought. […] Bullard’s DNA was taken pursuant to a search warrant and was compared against the firearms, but [the Florida Department of Law Enforcement] reported that the firearms failed to demonstrate a sufficient amount of DNA for processing.”

However, Yungeen Ace has bigger fish to fry now, as his rival Foolio’s alleged killer recently claimed that Ace paid him $10K to murder him. “On everything I love, on the dead homies, I put it on everything, on my soul, on my kid, n***a: I’m the one that smacked Julio Foolio that night when he got dropped at his birthday celebration,” the unidentified individual said in a video posted to social media. “I ain’t gonna show my face or give my identity away or nothing like that, but you know, I did that. There was money on his head.

“I rock with Ace and them boys, ATK,” Foolio’s alleged killer went on about Yungeen Ace. “I be in Jacksonville heavy. If you know, you know. I handled that because Ace had that money on his head, Ace had them put that 10K up. Told me to slide, told me to smack Foolio because he got tired of that n***a running his mouth, playing all the time, you feel me?

“It is what it is, bruh,” Yungeen Ace’s alleged affiliate concluded. “A n***a don’t give a f**k. About that money, anybody can get it. Foolio had it coming to him, so I don’t really feel sorry. A lot of people feel that it was on some gang s**t. It ain’t even really all that. Ace put that bread up and whoever wanted to take it, took it, so I took that. Rest in peace, Foolio.”

Drake Has New Music Coming Soon, DJ Akademiks Alleges

Drake has had it pretty rough as of late. Overall, this is thanks to his recent beef with none other than Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick came through with some kill shots throughout the feud, and most fans believe he won. As for Drizzy, he has been left to deliver some not-so-great features. For instance, “Wah Gwan Delilah” and “U MY EVERYTHING” weren’t great. Not to mention, his Camilla Cabello features did not have the impact most were expecting.

This has led some to believe that the Drake stimulus package no longer exists. Furthermore, there are some who are a bit worried about whether or not Drizzy has what it takes to come back from his recent loss. However, it seems like his good friend DJ Akademiks is here to dispel some of those myths. In a recent stream for his fans, Akademiks came out and said that new Drake music is, indeed, on the way. Moreover, he noted that the music is fire.
