King Von Resorts To “Robberies” On New Posthumous Single

While people continue to speak on the legal issues that King Von was wrapped up in before his tragic passing, his musical legacy speaks louder than any headline could. With more new music presumably on the way, we have a new posthumous single from the Chicago MC with “Robberies.” Moreover, the track once again proves how talented and vivid of a storyteller he is in his tracks about street life and hardships. Of course, the beat here doesn’t slouch, and turns the narrative into a banging and engaging song that locks listeners in to his bars. Overall, this is an exciting look at the future of his musical output, which hopefully is treated with respect, consideration, and his family’s wishes in mind.

To start with the instrumental (courtesy of ATL Jacob), menacing and high-pitched strings form an intoxicating triplet pattern to lead the melody on “Robberies.” By the time the drums kick in, the track already entranced you, and King Von’s voice rings through in the production in a way that makes the drums hit even harder. Sure, it’s not the most progressive or evolutionary instrumental, but extra bells and whistles could’ve easily dampened the narrative at hand. As such, it’s exactly the kind of beat that the What It Means To Be King rhymer floats on with ease, and that compliments the rough yet delicate nature of his bars.

King Von’s “Robberies”: Stream

Lyrically, he focuses on having to resort to robbery to make a buck for himself amid an eviction notice. With that in mind, he represents the struggle behind his criminal activity in a way that paints it as a means to an end and not a particularly enjoyable or desired experience. Also, King Von’s verse goes from robbing somebody to that person eventually running up on him, making for a clean and satisfying circular narrative despite its dark content. Still, let us know how you felt about “Robberies” in the comments or find it on your preferred streaming service if you haven’t checked it out already. Quotable Lyrics
I gotta go, don’t be wastin’ my time in here (Uh-uh)
I grab the bag out the back, it was full of the pack of that finest ex*tic, man
Then I let him go and got back on the road (Uh-huh)
Heard him whisper, “Boy, I’m gonna find your a**” (Man, what?)

Young Thug’s New Album Contains Has Hostile Snitching Bars

Last night, Young Thug surprise-released his new album Business Is Business. Given his current legal situation, which has been unfolding in the public eye for over a year, he had a lot to address. For rap fans, one of the biggest curiosities was whether or not Thugger would directly mention Gunna, whose alleged snitching saw him released from prison earlier this year. Other rappers, most recently Lil Durk and Lil Baby, have used their music to take shots at Gunna. Turns out Young Thug does address snitches on the record’s 13th track “Jonesboro.” Even then, it’s unclear whether the lyrics are specifically about Gunna.

Young Thug on the track makes his thoughts on snitches pretty clear. “N*ggas told and he was my homie, I can’t miss him, Ain’t nobody feel him,” the lyrics read. For many fans, this was as scorching an indictment of Gunna’s actions as Young Thug could possibly make. But the more fans dug into things the less clear the intention of the lyrics became. Many online are claiming that the track was written and recorded before Young Thug was ever even locked up. If that’s the case it’s unclear who the lyrics are about but they couldn’t be Gunna. Still, including the song and lyrics on the album could still have been some kind of veiled statement in itself.

Young Thug Calls Out Snitches

Young Thug’s new album is a major event in hip-hop. Not just because of the major storylines it arrives in the midst of, but also the talent involved in it. Superstars like Drake, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert all make appearances in the tracklist. The album also features nearly wall-to-wall production from Metro Boomin’ who’s had a busy 2023 of his own.

Business Is Business is Young Thug’s first new album since 2021’s Punk. Less than a year after that album’s release, Young Thug and Gunna were both picked up on RICO charges alongside 26 others in the reported YSL gang. Do you think the lyrics on Young Thug’s new album are taking shots at Gunna for snitching? Let us know in the comment section below.

Tory Lanez, G Herbo, Pressa & Drakeo The Ruler Appear On Toronto’s Top5 New Album “Pedro Activated”

There isn’t another rapper this year who had as eventful of an album rollout at Top5. The Toronto rapper is currently locked up as he awaits trial for first-degree murder. Still, even while incarcerated, he’s managed to rattle the music industry. Just a week ago, he claimed responsibility for jacking DJ Drama’s chain during a club appearance in Toronto. Still, his charges nor his antics have hindered his reach in the music industry, especially as he built anticipation for his next project.

This morning, Top5 finally came through with his latest album, Pedro Activated, released through GGG, 6ixbuzz Ent., and Create Music Group. The 16-song effort is stacked to the brim with features from some of the hottest names in hip-hop. G Herbo helps open up the project, “21 Questions” while the late Drakeo The Ruler posthumously appears on “Your Homie.” Then, he has features from artists like PGF Nuk, Asian Doll, Chinese Kitty, Tory Lanez, and more.

Drake Follows Toronto Raptors Rookie On Instagram After Shout Out At NBA Draft

It was a big night for Gradey Dick. The combo forward/guard out of Kansas, who is considered one of the best shooters in the class, was picked 13th overall by the Raptors during the 2023 NBA Draft.

Furthermore, Dick was one of the biggest personalities at the draft. He rocked up to New York in a dazzling red suit inspired by Wizard of Oz. Meanwhile, his eccentric and hilarious TikTok account was going viral through the draft proceedings.

However, all Dick wanted after being drafted was to get a follow on Instagram from Drake. Additionally, Dick said his eventual goal was to become besties with the Toronto rapper. Well, it appears that Dick got at least one of those wishes on draft night.

Drake Follows Gradey Dick On Instagram

Soon after making his bold statements to the media, Dick found that his wish had been answered. In Instagram videos reshared by TMZ, Dick showed off his new Instagram follow – @champagnepapi, aka Drake.

“Come on! Champagne Papiii!” Dick was heard yelling excitedly backstage after discovering that Drizzy had given him that all-important follow. The next step is to get a Gradey Dick jersey into the rapper’s hands. “I need him to wear my jersey. That’s my priority,” Dick had said at his press conference.

Obviously, Drake is one of the most prominent Raptors fans around. However, he has often been blamed for the team’s failures, with many people dubbing the Raptors’ recent lack of success the Drake Curse. However, with new coach Darko Rajaković at the helm, maybe the Drake Curse can become a Drake Blessing.

However, Instagram follows are not the only reason people are talking about Toronto’s foremost rapper. One of Drake’s unreleased songs somehow made its way into the hands of a DJ at a nightclub in Houston.

Area 29, located in Westwood in southwest Houston, treated fans to a reportedly unreleased track from Drizzy earlier this week. Footage from inside the club was shared by Our Generation Music on Instagram. However, fans in the comments were not blown away by the song. Furthermore, others felt that Drake came off as “sassy.”

In other news surrounding Drake releases, the rapper appeared to confirm that he would be featuring on Business Is Business, the upcoming album from Young Thug. In fact, Drake appears twice on the album, featuring on “Parade On Cleveland” and “Oh U Went”.

YNW Melly Asked His Mom To Buy Him A Legal Gun, Prosecution Claims In Ongoing Trial

YNW Melly’s double murder trial has been playing out for the better part of June, and so far, we’ve seen plenty of interesting twists and turns in the case. The accused killer has been making plenty of headlines with his antics, from appearing to pray before jurors entered the courtroom to being criticized for smiling from ear to ear and letting his personality shine through during some of the proceedings. In the beginning, many lawyers chiming in on the case shared the opinion that Melly could potentially beat his charges due to the prosecution’s near-impossible job proving him guilty.

However, new evidence has seemingly turned things around, as alleged text messages between the Florida native and his mother, Jamie King, have been presented as evidence against him. In the video below, the prosecution presents screenshots of messages sent by Melly both ahead of and following the homicides, using his consistent speech pattern to prove their validity. “Listen I [don’t] care about any of this but you [and] I have not posted anything about Sak,” King wrote to her son about one his alleged victims prior to his death. “He jumping what his sister started, making posts about me.”

Prosecution Presents Troubling Evidence Against YNW Melly

More screenshots shown later in the video find Melly asking his mother to “Get [him] a Glock ASAP,” as well as sending her his location around the time the crimes took place in 2018. “Like go now,” YNW urged her. “Ok, what’s wrong? I got your .45,” she wrote back. “I just don’t want no illegal gun. Well dats not illegal,” the recording artist responded.

“But I rather have a Glock 40 or 19,” other alleged messages from Melly read. Shortly after the seven-minute mark, Melly’s defense attorneys attempt to object, however, the judge allowed the prosecution to continue. Now that these receipts have entered the chat, social media commentators are starting to think things might not go in his favour.

Snoop Dogg Scores His First Diamond Single, “California Gurls”

13 years after its release, this West Coast pop anthem just made history for the two artists that released it. Moreover, Snoop Dogg just earned his first-ever Diamond-certified single by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), “California Gurls” with Katy Perry. Not only that, but the singer also reached a huge milestone by becoming the female artist with the most Diamond hits according to the RIAA. For those unaware, a Diamond certification from the association means that the release in question sold at least 10 million equivalent units. As such, it’s clear that this song is still in rotation, whether it’s people feeling nostalgia for it or discovering it for the first time.

Of course, high acclaim and success is nothing new for Tha Doggfather. While this specific instance is an example of commercial success, the Long Beach MC has garnered loads of respect. For example, he recently revealed that James Brown told him he was the hardest-working artist in the industry. Furthermore, Snoop Dogg transcended the hip-hop genre when it came to his star power, something that his many partnerships, pop crossovers, and more endeavors continue to prove.

“California Gurls,” Snoop Dogg’s First Diamond Song

“California Gurls” was the first single for Katy Perry’s third album, 2010’s Teenage Dream. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts and remained at No. 1 for six consecutive weeks. However, interestingly enough, the Snoop Dogg collab idea came from another successful rap crossover hit. According to the “Electric” hitmaker, she was inspired by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys’ fellow city-honoring hit, “Empire State Of Mind.” Still, the reasons behind that inspiration were as competitive as they were admiring.

“When I came up with the idea of ‘California Gurls,’ it was because I was a little bit jealous of all the love that was given to the East Coast,” she revealed to MTV in 2010. “I thought for sure Tupac was rolling in his grave, and the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson was totally upset.” Furthermore, she said it was “perfect timing” for a Cali hit. Wwho better to tap than one of the kings of West Coast hip-hop? For more news and the latest updates on Snoop Dogg, log back into HNHH.

Stormzy Locks In With Fredo On “Toxic Trait”

Stormzy remains a leading figure in the UK rap scene, although he’s shown that he’s much more than an MC. Since his debut album, Gang Signs & Prayers, his appreciation for gospel and soul music have trickled through his catalog but none more than on 2022’s This Is What I Mean. The majority of the project found Stormz’ in a plaintive space but fans hoped that he’d come through with some bangers.

It seems that he listened to the fans and slid through with some new heat this week. The rapper came through with the release of his new single, “Toxic Trait” ft. Fredo. Produced by Dave Santan, who recently dropped off his joint project with Central Cee, Stormzy and Fredo deliver a blistering banger that finds them showcasing their lyrical tenacity on wax. Hopefully, it signals that a follow-up to This Is What I Mean come soon.

Stormzy & Fredo Deliver A Banger

A large part of the record revolves around Stormzy’s growth throughout his career. Emerging into the rap game in his early 20s, he recently reflected on his maturity as he approaches his 30s. “There’s a difference between doing music at 22 and when you’re about to turn 30,” Stormzy recently told Dazed Magazine. “It’s the kind of peace and stability and stillness you can only get from maturity. You lose all the nervous shivers and the anxiety; you shake it off because now you’re a grown man coming into your skin.”

As for Fredo, the UK rapper came through with a few new records this year including “Everybody Knows.” His last album Scorpion dropped in 2022 and he also came through with a couple of features. Dave, on the other hand, is getting deeper into his production bag. Along with collaborating with Central Cee on Split Decision, he also contributed to the majority of the production on the project. Press play on Stormzy’s new single above and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Juice WRLD And Cordae’s ‘Doomsday’ Video Puts Deepfake Technology To Mind-Bending Good Use

Generally, I find all the deepfakes and AI use in music today — especially when it comes to deceased artists’ posthumous releases — ethically iffy, if not downright creepy. I’m willing to make an exception for Lyrical Lemonade’s off-the-wall “Doomsday” collab between Juice WRLD and Cordae, though. For one, Juice and Cordae were very tight in real life, and for another, both were extremely close with director Cole Bennett, who was instrumental to both of their careers.

But mostly, it’s because the project came out super tight, which is something you can’t always say for similar works. In this case, we get another opportunity to hear both young rappers at the respective heights of their game — something they got too few chances to give us while Juice was alive — as well as to hear Juice really rapping. Also, the deepfake effect in the video is used in a creative way, allowing Cordae to perform for the both of them as he morphs back and forth between his own face and Juice’s.

Eminem, whose song “Role Model” is sampled here, even makes an appearance at the beginning of the video and his association with Cordae and Juice is just enough to make you wonder whether it’s more digital trickery, or really the man himself showing love to the younger rappers (and Cole, who directed his “Godzilla” video).

Check out the “Doomsday” video above.

Cordae is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
