Meyhem Lauren, DJ Muggs & Madlib Collide On “Fresh Out The Water”

Meyhem Lauren’s cooking up something serious these days. The Queens-bred rapper has delivered some incredible records in recent times, which felt like a strong comeback following a successful venture on television. The rapper joined Action Bronson on Fuck, That’s Delicious but that appeared to open the gates for more food-related ventures. His YouTube channel, for instance, finds him exploring some of his favorite recipes while adding his own twist to them.

However, he hasn’t forgotten about his fans, who are always here for new music. Last year, he emerged with his latest body of work, Black Vladimir. The album, a collaborative effort alongside Griselda go-to Daringer, brought included 15 songs in total while Meyhem collided with beastly MCs, like Westside Gunn, Conway, Flee Lord, and more. However, it looks like the late August project was a taste of what he has in store moving forward.

Meyhem Lauren – Fresh Out The Water ft. Madlib and DJ Muggs

While we saw with Meyhem Lauren could do when he locks in with one producer, his next project will have two legendary producers handling the beats. This week, he slid through with the first single off of his upcoming joint effort with Madlib and DJ Muggs, “Fresh Out The Water.” The hypnotic vocal sample and crispy drums are a fusion of Madlib and Muggs’ signature styles while Lauren doesn’t hold back. “The system tried to turn us to workers so they could jerk us/  Opponents look for open opportunities to merk us,” he raps on the record.

Though he hasn’t laid down a release date for the project, “Fresh Out The Water” is a promising sign of what’s to come. Madlib and Muggs have yet to work together on a project in the past, so it feels as though Meyhem Lauren has all the pieces in place for a strong Album Of The Year contender. We’ll keep you posted on any more information regarding the forthcoming project. For now, press play on the single above and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Dreamville’s Collaboration With Daily Paper Has Dropped

Dreamville Records has launched a new project in collaboration with Amsterdam-based fashion label Daily Paper. The resulting capsule, referred to as Dream Daily, is a seven-piece collection of university-style wear. Raeana Anaïs, the design director of Dreamville, describes the mission of this project to be “Dream Daily, and then put a plan into action to make those dreams come true.”

The record label, founded by J. Cole, has initiated another step into the fashion world with this collection. Reflecting on this new endeavor with Daily Paper, Dreamville partner Adam Roy stated, “we tell stories through music and equally they, with fashion. We’re excited about the opportunity to build something special with one of today’s foremost fashion collectives.” Daily Paper, which was created in 2008 by Abderrahmane Trabsini, Hussein Suleiman, and Jefferson Osei, is heavily inspired by the African heritage of the founders.

Dreamville X Daily Paper Pulls Inspo From The Classroom

For the release, photographer Olya Oleinic shot a yearbook-themed campaign starring “alumni” members of both Dreamville and the Daily Paper. Dream Daily is also heavily inspired by the University of Sankore, which is regarded as one of the world’s oldest educational institutions. The creative direction for Dream Daily is explained in a statement released on the fashion brand’s website: “With both brands starting their respective labels during their university years, we reimagine what a Daily Paper x Dreamville University would look like.” The brand also features a similarly styled video campaign, which also features the behind-the-scenes of the creation of Dream Daily.

Needless to say, the concept of Dream Daily emphasizes education. One of the more notable pieces from the capsule is the maroon and sandy-colored University Jacket. Featured on the jacked is an assortment of branded patches and a graphic depicting the Great Mosque of Djenné, which has both religious and cultural significance for the people of Mali. The collection also features a polo dress, a polo sweater, a coach jacket, sweatpants, a hoodie, and a t-shirt. Today (February 24th) marks the first day of Dreamville’s pop-up in NYC, located inside of the Daily Paper’s flagship store. De La Soul just shared a touching Instagram tribute to their fallen member David Jude Jolicoeur, better known as Dave, J.D. Dove, or Trugoy the Dove. Moreover, member Maseo penned a dedication on the group’s official Instagram page, along with a picture of them signing their first record deal with Tommy Boy. “Dave, thank you so much for being in my life,” Plug Three wrote. “Although you and I would argue like hell, we would both admit when we were wrong and totally come full circle and say, ‘I Love You.’ I want to truly thank you for having the birds eye view of our collective vision to be a group.”

“Before Trugoy The Dove, I met J.D. Dove aside being called Dave in 1985,” he continued. “I remember your mom calling you Dove, so you’ve always had wings. So go on and fly into the light, Merce and I will make sure your legacy is well preserved. ‘We Are De La Soul’ for life and after life, but obviously, it will never be the same. On one end I’m happy you no longer have to suffer the pain of your condition. On the other hand I’m extremely upset at the fact that you’re not here to celebrate and enjoy what we worked and fought so hard to achieve.”

The rappers dated years ago, but Rubi created tension when she accused DDG of letting Halle Bailey wear her clothing. The Little Mermaid star and DDG are happily in love these days, and instead of allowing Rubi’s comment to pass, he engaged in a back-and-forth on social media.

Bailey chimed in to say that everything was fine and wished everyone nothing but the best. However, DDG decided to go a different route, and soon, Rubi was sharing screenshots from her ex. He was quickly accused of attempting to step out on Bailey, but the controversy ended as quickly as it started.
