The Big Red Boots Phenomenon

MSCHF, which is Mischief without the vowels, is an art collective based out of New York City. The collective has a long-standing history of trolling consumer culture, specifically by selling consumer goods. Known for such releases as the shoe collaboration with Lil Nas X, and the Nike Satan Shoes. Which allegedly were made with real human blood. As well as Jimmy Fallon’s Gobstomper sneakers last summer, which were, “designed to be destroyed.”  A few months later, they put out a medical boot. Why? The project was described as an homage to the fact that “industries with little to no regard for aesthetics designing objects for utilitarian purposes churn out bangers like no one else.”

To add to their long line of consumer products for consumerism’s sake they have released items such as a MSCHF defibrillator “to fix your literal broken heart.” As well as a collection of AI-generated foot pics. With the tagline “this foot does not exist.” The collective has even gone so far as to have made Birkenstocks out of Birkin Bags, sold a box of cereal containing one big Fruit Loop, and created an ATM leaderboard that tracks and ranks the checking account balance of anyone who uses it. As of December 2022, Diplo was No. 1 with $3,004,913.06.

The Big Red Boots Are Unveiled

On February 16th, the brand released its latest product. A shoe destined to go viral: MSCHF’s big red boots, aptly named the Big Red Boot. They are made of TPU rubber and an EVA mid-outsole and take design cues from a video game. A press release for the shoe read, “Cartoonishness is an abstraction that frees us from the constraints of reality,” the release continued, “If you kick someone in these boots, they go boing!” The artist collective known for its subversive creations, stated, “Big red boots are really not shaped like feet, but they are extremely shaped like boots.”

Each boot weighs about three and a half pounds bringing the total weight for the pair to a whopping seven pounds. Even more astounding than the weight of the boots, was the rollout of the shoes. Leading up to New York Fashion Week, they were spotted everywhere among a multitude of celebrities. From Instagram models and TikTok grandpas to the Barclays center during Coi Leray’s halftime show. Photos of artist Diplo emerged wearing the Big Red Boots at a Knicks game. They were even spotted on WWE’s Seth Rollins, as he kicked another wrestler in the face while wearing the Big Red Boots. Basketball player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander wore them to the arena before a game and even Janelle Monae wore them to shoot hoops.

Celebrities Set The Trend

Once NYFW began, the boots became the new “it” accessory. Not surprisingly of course. Brands typically give celebrities and models articles of specific clothing and/or accessories to wear, as a marketing technique. MSCHF was no different with their Big Red Boots. They were spotted by celebrities and street style stars all over Fashion Week. Street-style photographer Phil Oh captured them on various stars. American singer/songwriter Dorian Electra styled them with a graphic coat, and mini skirt to fully show the shoes and donned a matching beret. Model Sarah Snyder paired the boots with a glossy red skirt and white tights; TikTok star and model Wisdom Kaye decided to style them with athletic shorts. No matter how they were worn the statement boots were styled to be the focal point.

Though the boots are rather unusual and even more impractical to wear, it’s been quite interesting to see how quickly the world was taken by storm by them. Upon being released on the 16th of February, the Big Red Boots were sold out in minutes. Leading to the site crashing shortly thereafter. Upon selling out, they were then listed on resale sites ranging between $1,200 and $1,500. Almost quadruple the original selling price of $350. The debate on the shoes has been as interesting as the shoes themselves. Some say the brand, and specifically the boots, are a social experiment–slash–experiential art project. While many others still have said the real art is the whole spectacle of releasing such a shoe. The reaction to the boots, the reaction to that reaction, the realization that it’s not just about boots, and the simultaneous truth that they are, in fact, just boots.

What’s Next?

MSCHF as a collective seems to continuously roll out products that raise eyebrows. They have an interesting and complex understanding of how consumerism and over-saturation seemingly go hand in hand these days. This was made overtly apparent in the case of the Big Red Boots. While the MSCHF may appear cartoonish, the art collective is entirely serious about its release. In an interview with the New York Times, they rejected the idea that the boots were a joke. “It’s not a satire,” MSCHF said in a statement to The New York Times, after declining to be interviewed. “But what’s interesting is that we’re at a moment in time where it doesn’t have to be.”

Tink & Ty Dolla $ign Get Vulnerable On Sensual New Song, “Let Down My Guard”

If any woman in the R&B genre is coming with consistency, it’s undeniably Tink. This New Music Friday (February 24), the Chicago native came through with her second project in less than a year. Titled Thanks 4 Nothing, the 14-track effort finds the vocalist handling 12 titles on her own, though she still requests help from two male contemporaries – Yung Bleu and Ty Dolla $ign.

The former, who’s preparing to release his follow-up to last year’s TANTRA, shows out on “Stingy,” which has quickly emerged as a fan favourite. For the former’s part, he joined Tink on track seven, “Let Down My Guard,” which boasts plenty of the pair’s usual sensual lyrics. While they obviously had the vocals on lock, production from Hitmaka, Cardiak, and WU10 is what really takes the song to the next level.

Ty Dolla $ign and Tink Join Forces on “Let Down My Guard”

The chorus finds our two singers asking important questions to their potential lovers. “If I took you shoppin’ on the first day, would you love me? / If I showed my scars and told you stories ’bout the gunplay,” the 40-year-old starts of the collaboration. Tink follows with, “If I let you f*ck on the first night, baby, would you judge me? / If I wasn’t always legit, used to scam and move them thirties.”

Prior to sharing her fourth project in four years, the 27-year-old teased fans with singles like “Toxic” and “Fake Love.” Thus far, “Save Your Soul,” “Trust Issues,” and “Someone On You” appear to be favourites amongst fans.

Stream Tink and Ty Dolla $ign’s “Let Down My Guard” on Spotify or Apple Music below. Afterward, listen to the R&B diva’s Thanks 4 Nothing album if you haven’t already here. Make sure to check back later today (February 26) for more release recommendations on our weekly playlist update.

Quotable Lyrics:

If I took you shoppin’ on the first day, would you love me?
If I showed my scars and told you stories ’bout the gunplay
If I let down my guard, would you give a thug your heart?
If I let down my guard, would you let us fall apart?

Ice Cube’s Son O’Shea Jackson Jr. Takes Pride In Being A “Nepo Baby”

O’Shea Jackson Jr., son of the legendary Ice Cube, recently spoke on being a “nepo baby,” and actually taking pride in it. Moreover, the 32-year-old spoke on The Kelly Clarkson Show about the debate surrounding the term, which refers to celebrity children with successful Hollywood careers. Of course, Jackson Jr. is one of the many starts in the recently released Cocaine Bear film, which might approach cult status soon. If it doesn’t, at least it was a fun and Pusha T-cosigned movie to look back on. Regardless, O’Shea actually made his film debut portraying his father in the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton.

With that experience in mind, he says the label is like a “badge of honor” for him. “I’m forever grateful for everything my dad had to do to get me the opportunities that I have,” he expressed. “And if I were to run away from that or shy away from that in any way, in my eyes, that’s disrespectful to everything he had to go through. He didn’t work as hard as he did for me to not accept and appreciate it. So, I wear it as a badge of honor.

O’Shea Jackson Jr. Is A Proud Nepo Baby

“At the same time, the door can be open but you’ve gotta walk through,” he continued after calling his dad his hero. “You know, a lot of people, they have an idea of what I’m going to be before I get to any set because of their idea of what my dad is. They think I’m coming to set entitled or I feel like I need to have a ‘posse’ of 15-20 people with me… you know… straight rap stuff. But I’m here to work. I pride myself on my professionalism.”

While some will hate on nepo babies no matter what, O’Shea actually makes some valid points with his remarks. After all, being a nepo baby, in theory, is only as bad as you make it with your attitude towards others and sense of entitlement. Also, this isn’t the first time he’s spoken on it. In fact, he auditioned to play his father two years before getting the role and pointed out how he switched agencies as well. Overall, he spoke earnestly about expressing gratitude for the door his father opened up, and about it being up to him to truly succeed out of merit. Regardless of your take, check back in with HNHH for the latest on O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Ice Cube.

[WATCH] Hospital Fires Nurse Caught Slamming Newborn Baby In Viral Video

Screen Shot 2023 02 26 at 10.45.02 AM

A NY Hospital fired a nurse who was caught slamming a crying newborn baby into a bassinet in the NICU.
Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY terminated the nurse after a shocking video of the incident went viral.
“It was heartbreaking,” said baby Nikko’s mother, Consuelo Saravia. “I couldn’t stop crying, I couldn’t even sleep.”

2-day-old Nikko was in the Neonatal ICU for observation after receiving antibiotics. First-time father, Fidel Sinclair, went to see his son in the NICU and noticed him crying through a small opening in a curtain over the window.

When he began recording on his cellphone he captured a disturbing sight. A nurse grabbed baby Nikko, turned him around and slammed him face down into the bassinet.

“I don’t know, it just broke me,” said Fidel. “I didn’t know what to do.”

Fidel showed the video to Consuelo, who confronted the nurse.

Consuelo recalled the conversation: “I told her ‘I don’t want you to touch my child. You just slammed him.’ She said ‘Oh no, if you think I mishandled him or anything, I’m sorry.’”

Consuelo showed the video to other nurses and hospital administrators.

Catholic Health, which runs Good Samaritan, told NBC New York that immediate action was taken, including conducting an investigation and firing the individual involved.

“Additionally, we reported the individual to the Department of Health for further review. Keeping our patients safe remains our paramount concern.”

Fidel said he’s thankful he decided to go check on his son when he did.

“If it wasn’t for God who sent me to check on him we would have never seen any of that happen,” he said. “And It would have kept happening overnight not only to him but the other babies, too.”

He added: “I find it messed up that in a room like that they have all the curtains closed.”

Catholic Health defended the use of closed curtains in the NICU windows.

“It is standard procedure to have closed curtains in the neonatal ICU to provide privacy for the patients and their families.”

Suffolk Police say their Special Victims Unit is investigating while Baby Nikko is at home doing fine.

Asian Doll Doubles Down With “Let’s Do a Drill 2” Album

Asian Doll has been on a tear recently. Aged 26, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Drill” is coming off an eventful year in 2022. In July, she dropped her full-length album Let’s Do a Drill. The album was loaded with exciting features and undeniable bangers. Verses from Tay Money, Bandmanrill, Dougie B and more all meshed well with Asian’s ferocious sound. In less than a year, the project already has five songs that have eclipsed 100,000 streams on Spotify. In fact, her most popular track “No Exposing” is well on its way to 1 million plays with over 860,000.

However, with this success came a bit of turbulence. A few months later in November, Asian was arrested and denied bond. The reasons for her detainment have still not been disclosed. At the time, she was sentenced to 45 days in jail. But, she was released nearly a week later and got back to work. During that time, she put out her final solo single of the year titled “Come Outside.” Needless to say, Asian had tons of momentum heading into the new year.

Asian Doll Spins The Block

In the first month of 2023, Asian Doll got right to it. On Jan. 25, the Dallas, TX native announced her upcoming album Let’s Do a Drill 2. Dubbing it the “solo edition,” Doll was set to turn her stellar 2022 LP into an album series. Without any features, Let’s Do a Drill 2 came out on Feb. 24. The album contains 12 songs and spans only 30 minutes. Additionally, the LP includes its sole pre-released single “Come Outside.”

A few months ago, producer Hitmaka voiced his qualms about “pussy rap” via Twitter. “P*ssy rap was cool when it had shock value & was rare. Now it’s like every girl taking it there,” he said. Asian Doll did not take kindly to this, and responded with vigor. “I fell like why do n****s always worried bout what female rappers rap about?” she questioned. “N****s been rapping bout the same thing since rap was invented.. ladies rap for the ladies not for you n****s.”

So, with this new album, it’s clear who Asian’s target audience is: the ladies. But, all fans of drill should surely expect great things from Asian. With confident flows and innovative songwriting, Let’s Do a Drill 2 will surely impress just as much as the first rendition. Stream Asian Doll’s new album on Spotify or Apple Music below.

Young Thug’s YSL RICO Trial Will Reportedly Call 1,200 Potential Jurors

Young Thug’s RICO trial will reportedly call 1,200 potential jurors for evaluation, according to legal documents obtained by AllHipHop. While authorities arrested Thug and the rest of the YSL codefendants almost a year ago, the trial still isn’t underway. Moreover, it’s been subject to a lengthy and delayed jury selection process, which is no closer to completion after hundreds of participants. Furthermore, this selection process could take several more months, which only means more time behind bars in this high-profile case.

Still, the documents read as such: “The Jury Clerk shall send a sufficient number of subpoenas to result in the appearance of an additional 1200 prospective trial jurors: 300 on February 24, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.; 300 on March 17, 2023 at 9:30 AM; 300 on April 28, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.; and 300 on May 19, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. The prospective jurors will watch a pre-recorded reading of the indictment for this case and hear preliminary jury instructions from Chief Judge Glanville on these respective dates.” In addition, prospective jurors will have to answer a questionnaire from the court under oath and participate in “potential hardships” examinations, which aim to identify factors such as mental or physical disability.

Young Thug Trial Evaluating 1,200 Jurors

Meanwhile, Thugger’s list of witnesses includes accomplished music executives Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles. While his trial seems no closer to completion than it was months ago, at least he has people on his side. In the months left in the jury selection process, perhaps they’ll take advantage of the extra time to really think about what will go down- and how they’ll go about it. Meanwhile, many on social media and beyond are concerned for a witness’s life after an interrogation video leaked. Afterwards, many called the witness a rat and threatened his safety.

“This is a murder that’s about to take place with some very hot people,” they said in the leak. “And [inaudible] the stuff that I know right now should be able to help me get out my situation.” While it’s unclear whether this report refers to Lil Woody, if it’s not, that was another case of alleged snitching that many threatened. “It puts people’s lives in danger,” Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis stated. “My worst fear is that it is used as an intimidating tactic and people might be hurt.” Also, she wants Judge Glanville to open an investigation into the leak, which many believe might’ve come from the defense. However, defense attorney Keith Adams denied such claims, and pushed back on the D.A. wanting to restrict court access to the video. Regardless, stick around on HNHH for the latest on Young Thug and the YSL RICO case.

North West Imitates Kim Kardashian In Comedic Cooking TikTok: Watch

As the firstborn of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s four children, North West has had more time than any of her siblings to connect with her parent’s fans. Thanks to today’s digital age, the 9-year-old is a frequent flyer on TikTok (despite her father’s protests), where she recruits family members and friends to join her for comedic videos. Seeing as she has two creative icons as her parents, it only makes sense that the young girl loves to express herself through various outlets.

On Saturday (February 25), North and her mom’s joint account lit up with a five-part series of videos. Throughout the uploads, the content creator and her friend reveal their recipe for cooking homemade pasta, though it didn’t come without plenty of hilarious moments. In fact, Kardashian’s daughter even poked fun at her during one clip, imitating how the socialite would react to finding crumbs in her bed.

North West Channels Kim while Making Pasta for TikTok

The moment came during North’s third TikTok post yesterday. While preparing the pasta dough with her hands, she sprinkles some from high up in the air before yelling out, “It’s raining crumbs!” Immediately after, she reflects on how Kardashian would likely react to her antics. “My mum would hate to have this in bed, she’d be like, “Oh my gosh you put these crumby crumby crumbs in my bed, you can’t sleep in my bed!”

“Then I’d be like, ‘Oh I don’t want to sleep in your bed.’ She doesn’t like crumbs in her bed,” North went on to explain, still chefing away. By the end of their fifth video, the two young girls finally finished prepping their dough, which was seemingly put together without any adult help. The comment section on the account remains limited, but social media users are still talking about Kim’s daughter’s cheeky comments.

North Proves She’s Ice Spice’s Biggest Fan

Elsewhere on her TikTok page, North has been making waves with her various tributes to rising rapper Ice Spice. Earlier this month, the young entertainer revealed that her drawing skills are seriously on point while showing off a portrait of the Bronx baddie. Upon seeing the clip, the “Bikini Bottom” hitmaker praised her new friend for her hard work while returning the love.

Aside from her art, West has also been using Spice’s latest guest feature on PinkPantheress’ “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2” to soundtrack several of her posts. In the days after the rap diva responded to her drawing, she and Kardashian posted up in their beautiful home, lip-syncing along to the catchy new song. See for yourself below, and check back later for more pop culture news updates.
