Earlier this year a pretty unpredictable beef emerged. Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def was asked a somewhat loaded question about Drake during an appearance on a podcast. But his answer didn’t necessarily sit right with people. He claimed that the music Drake makes is closer to pop than actual rap. He justified the claim by saying that it’s the kind of music you hear while shopping. The comments weren’t exactly hateful towards Drake, but they still rubbed a lot of his fans and even some other rappers the wrong way.

NLE Choppa was one of the first high-profile rappers to come to Drake’s defense. That was before Drizzy himself responded, first with a clip from an old Method Man interview discussing rap being about the culture. He doubled down on his response a few days later when he took to his Instagram story to call Bey a “crackhead.” Bey caught even more flack later when he performed during a Paris Fashion Week show. It also debuted two songs in the top 10 of the Hot 100, “redrum” and “nee-nah” with Travis Scott and Metro Boomin. “redrum” landed in the top 5 and is expected to remain in the top 10 in its second week.

In a sort of victory lap for the new album, Savage appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s show Club Shay Shay. The show was already a point of controversy earlier this year when Katt Williams appeared. He used it as a platform to deliver some truly unhinged stories that quickly went viral. By comparison, 21 is much more focused but that doesn’t mean he didn’t make some viral waves of his own. Most recently fans are discussing his comments about being friends with Drake. Last year, Lil Nas X announced a new documentary following him on his first-ever world tour. The project is called Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero and some fans have already gotten the chance to see it. The visuals for “Bachelor” were teased ahead of time as a major event and they didn’t disappoint. Danny Brown Drops New Stop-Motion Animated Video For “Y.B.P”

Danny Brown has a long history of incredibly creative music videos. For his Atrocity Exhibition standout “Ain’t It Funny” he recruited Jonah Hill to direct a surreal video stylized to look like a fake sitcom. In the video for his song “Best Life,” he follows the lives of various different people through a literal fish-eye lens. But in the third video from his new album Quaranta, he may have delivered one of his strangest outings yet.

Earlier today he unleashed the new video for his song “Y.B.P” featuring Bruiser Wolf. The video is directed by Edem Wornoo & William Child and deploys unique-looking stop-motion animation. In the video itself, stop-motion versions of Danny and Wolf rap their lines while the story of an unpredictable robbery unfolds around them. The video escalates in intensity concluding on a wild police chase that ends in a car accident. 21 Savage Shares First Trailer For His Upcoming Biopic

Overnight, 21 Savage confirmed some rumors that had been swirling around for weeks. The rumors stated that he was working on an autobiographical film telling his life story and they turned out to be true. He shared a movie poster announcing American Dream: The 21 Savage Story. Alongside the poster, he also made the reveal that Donald Glover and Stranger Things alum Caleb McLaughlin were included in the project.

Now just a few hours later, Savage shared a trailer for the upcoming film on YouTube. The trailer shows off some of the events the film is expected to cover. It goes all the way back to Savage’s youth detailing the story of how he arrived at rap music. The trailer concludes with the scene where he, played by Donald Glover, chooses his rap name 21 Savage. Much of the trailer seems to deal with his controversial arrest by ICE that shocked fans in 2019. Numerous scenes shown in the trailer take place in an interrogation room.
