Danny Brown Drops New Stop-Motion Animated Video For “Y.B.P”

Danny Brown has a long history of incredibly creative music videos. For his Atrocity Exhibition standout “Ain’t It Funny” he recruited Jonah Hill to direct a surreal video stylized to look like a fake sitcom. In the video for his song “Best Life,” he follows the lives of various different people through a literal fish-eye lens. But in the third video from his new album Quaranta, he may have delivered one of his strangest outings yet.

Earlier today he unleashed the new video for his song “Y.B.P” featuring Bruiser Wolf. The video is directed by Edem Wornoo & William Child and deploys unique-looking stop-motion animation. In the video itself, stop-motion versions of Danny and Wolf rap their lines while the story of an unpredictable robbery unfolds around them. The video escalates in intensity concluding on a wild police chase that ends in a car accident. In the comments, fans show out praise for Danny’s new music and the unique artistic direction of the visuals in his new era. Check out the newly released video in full below.

Danny Brown Announces Seventh Studio Album ‘Quaranta’ and Drops New Single “Tantor”

Danny Brown Announces Seventh Studio Album 'Quaranta' and Drops New Single "Tantor"

Danny Brown has unveiled exciting news for his fans. His seventh studio album, “Quaranta,” is scheduled for release via Warp Records on Nov. 17, 2023. To give fans a taste of what’s to come, he has dropped a head-knocking single and a captivating music video titled “Tantor.”

Produced by the talented beatsmith, The Alchemist, “Tantor” showcases Danny Brown’s sonic mastery. His distinctive and punchy vocals cut through an electrifyingly hardcore and industrial instrumental. The accompanying music video, directed by *UNCANNY, takes viewers on a journey across Los Angeles as Brown wears a bionic costume that blurs the lines between humanity and technology.

The video incorporates animated clips and skillful editing, transforming Danny Brown into a “cyborg with vocal cords,” as he proudly proclaims within the electrifying song. “Tantor” is a thrilling return to solo music for Danny Brown, promising a powerful and innovative album with “Quaranta” on the horizon.

Danny Brown Announced The Release Date For His Album ‘Quaranta’ And Shared Its Tracklist

Danny Brown’s sixth studio album, Quaranta, finally has a release date. Brown has been teasing the album for over a year, giving Uproxx its title in our 2021 interview about his Red Bull Soundclash with Rico Nasty. Since then, he’s released one solo song, “Winter,” but has focused most of his energy on his and Jpegmafia’s joint project Scaring The Hoes.

Today, though, he returned focus to Quaranta, announcing its release date, revealing its tracklist, and sharing the video for its single, “Tantor.” In the video for “Tantor,” Danny terrorizes Los Angeles in a homemade robot suit, spitting his signature unhinged punchlines over a thrashing rock guitar loop. The first true taste of Quaranta certainly suggests a return to the Danny Brown of old after his 2019 release, U Know What I’m Sayin?, got introspective.

Of course, in real life, Danny Brown’s a whole new man after entering treatment for alcohol addiction, an experience he called humbling. It doesn’t appear he’s changed too much musically, though, keeping his trademark humor and love for off-kilter production.

Watch the “Tantor” video above.

Danny Brown’s “Quaranta” Album Finally Dropping In November: Details

The last time we heard a solo album from 42-year-old Danny Brown was in 2019 when he dropped off Uknowhatimsayin¿. Since then, hip-hop heads have been eager to hear more from the Texas-based creative, who’s been hinting at his upcoming LP, Quaranta for some time now. Today (October 17), a release date of November 17 was finally confirmed, along with the arrival of Brown’s “Tantor” single and an Uncanny-directed visual featuring an eye-catching futuristic cyborg suit.

Earlier this year, the “Grown Up” recording artist completed a stint in rehab that’s seemingly changed his outlook on many things in life. As a result, it’s likely we’ll be introduced to a new version of Brown through his latest body of work. Pitchfork notes that he’s described Quaranta (meaning “40” in Italian) as a “spiritual bookend” to his 2011 effort, XXX, which arrived on his 30th birthday.

Danny Brown Blames Record Label & Management For Holding Back “Quaranta”

We really haven’t lacked any new music from Danny Brown in the four years since releasing Uknowhatimsayin? He pushed several releases under the Bruiser Brigade umbrella that he also feature on while recently teaming up with JPEGMAFIA for their joint project, Scaring The Hoes: Vol. 1. Still, fans are awaiting Quaranta, an album intended to serve as a spiritual successor to 2011’s XXX. Unfortunately, it appears that there’s a lack of urgency surrounding its release.

During the latest episode of the Danny Brown Show podcast, the Detroit native revealed that he already turned Quaranta in to his label, Warped Records, though they, nor his management, have provided him with a detailed outline of the album’s release schedule. “Y’all gotta understand, me working with Warped – I don’t know with Warped and my management, man. I turned my album in two years ago” he explained.

Danny Brown Says He’s Still Working On “Quaranta”

Though Danny revealed that he handed in the album, the lack of urgency to release it has him tinkering and working on it further. “I will say, we’re still working on the album and shit’s getting doper but at this point, man, it’s like where’s the urgency?” he said. The Atrocity Exhibition rapper wanted his fans to reach out to Warped Records and Dart Parker, who he says deserves the majority of the blame for the album’s delay, with the hashtags #FreeDanny and #FreeQuaranta.

“At this point, it’s like shit, just put the Peggy album out. Y’all bullshittin’. Why y’all holdin’ me up for? The album been done, been out, so I almost feel like they shelved my shit,” Danny Brown continued. “‘Cause that’s what happens a lot of times. They shelf my shit and don’t wanna tell me.” At this point, Danny encouraged his fans to leave Dart Parker’s social media in shambles in an attempt to get Quaranta an official release date.

Danny Calls Out Warped Records

Danny also alleged that Warped Records is now upset with him over the release of Scaring The Hoes: Vol. 1 since it didn’t actually release through their imprints. “They all hating about this Peggy shit because… they ain’t got nothin’ to do with this,” he continued. Danny explained that they intentionally held up Quaranta to prevent the release of his joint album with JPEGMAFIA, comparing his situation to Lil Wayne’s ahead of Tha Carter III.
