Tyla Recruits Gunna And Skillibeng For Flashy New “Jump” Music Video

Last year, Tyla seemingly became an R&B superstar overnight. It arrived on the back of her song “Water” which dropped last year and slowly crept up the Hot 100. Eventually the song became a total smash hit peaking at number 3 on the chart. The song has racked up more than 600 million streams on Spotify alone and even got a remix with Travis Scott late last year. She followed that up with her self-titled debut album earlier this year, for which she recruited a couple of high profile features.

Two of those features also showed up in her newest video for the song “Jump.” Gunna and Skillibeng both feature on the track, which has rocketed up to her second most-streamed song on Spotify. They’re also present in the video which is shot in a variety of locations within Tyla’s native Johannesburg. It also features shots of Skillibeng from his own hometown of Kingston, Jamaica. The video was directed by NABIL and has already racked up more than 600k views in just its first few hours while hitting YouTube’s trending page. Earlier this year, Tyla canceled a world tour she had previously announced for 2024. In a statement released alongside the announcement of the cancelation. she cited health issues that prevented her from following through on the tour. Since then, however, that explanation has stuck with fans and they bring it up regularly. The R&B star has been spotted partying all over the world in recent months and doesn’t look particularly encumbered in her new music video. That’s led to some fans speculating that there could be alternate reasons for the tour’s canceling.

Cardi B Celebrates Having 4 Songs With More Than A Billion Streams On Spotify

Collecting over a billion streams on Spotify is an incredible achievement. Thousands of songs are uploaded to the platform every day and only a small fraction of them ever have a chance to get close to the impressive milestone. That’s why its so stunning when some of the biggest artists around pull off the massive achievement multiple times. That’s the case with Cardi B who lands two of her own songs and two high profile featured appearances on the list of songs with over 1 billion streams. She recently stopped by Spotify’s Billionaires Club series to reflect on all four of the songs.

Each of her billion stream songs is a collaboration, though two of them are her own tracks. “I Like It” landed on her debut album Invasion Of Privacy back in 2018. The song became an absolute smash hit after the album dropped and featured memorable performances from Bad Bunny and J Balvin. A few years later she dropped “WAP” her sexually charged crossover with Megan Thee Stallion. Both songs have comfortably surpassed 1 billion streams. She’s also credited for two smash hits she features on. The first is Maroon 5’s 2018 smash hit “Girls Like You.” The second is DJ Snake’s “Taki Taki” which also features Selena Gomez and Ozuna. Fans were hoping that 2024 would be the year Cardi released a full new album worth of songs that could potentially hit 1 billion streams. Ice Spice Is Flashier Then Ever Before In New “Gimmie A Light” Music Video

Ice Spice’s Y2K era is fully underway. After she kicked off the new album with the release of “Think U The Sh*t” earlier this year the second single has finally arrived. Much like its predecessor it was also teased on social media for weeks in the lead-up to its eventual release. After teasing the title, lyrics, and even a snippet of the song with fans she shared a teaser for the music video earlier this week. Now the video is out in full and fans are unpacking the various different highly stylized scenes it deploys throughout.

The video is self-directed with Ice Spice taking over the role herself alongside two collaborators. Though it’s a short overall video matching the songs barely two-minute runtime she manages to fit a lot into it. She makes use of the pink Range Rover which was also used to promote the song earlier this week. The car makes multiple appearances as she drives it around smoking out the window and later shows off her twerking skills in the backseat. In another scene she hits a packed club with her signature long-hair look and a pink bodysuit. Check out the stylish visuals for the song below.

Later this year Ice Spice will release her debut album Y2K. The NY rapper has experienced a meteoric rise to fame on the back of her Like..? EP and collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and Pink pantheress. She’s achieved an incredibly impressive amount of fame for someone who hasn’t even released a debut album yet. That’s why fans were so excited for her new era, though both of the singles so far have been met with mixed reviews by certain parts of her fanbase.

Megan Thee Stallion Drops Flurry Of Bars On “I Think I Love Her Freestyle”

Megan Thee Stallion is looking to put her stamp on her self-proclaimed “Megan May” with a new freestyle called “I Think I Love Her.” This off-the-dome session was just uploaded on the Texas rapper’s various social media platforms. The track, standing at 1:43 sees her spit with great proficiency as she brags over the grimy guitar-backed instrumental. If the beat sounds familiar at all, that is because Gucci Mane made a song of the same name on his 2015 mixtape Wilt Chamberlain (Pt.5).

However, we talked about this Guwop classic much sooner. In fact, it was back in January of this year when Erica Banks, a fellow Texas femcee, spit some bars on “I Think I Love Em (Freestyle).” The remix did well for the “Buss It” rapper, and now its Megan’s turn. This aggressive cut is also a pretty big deal for the Hotties, as this is a long overdue return of #MeganMonday.

21 Savage Finally Meets Nardwuar For An Interview

Nardwuar The Human Serviette has added to his legendary roster with a new interview in Vancouver with 21 Savage, who just kicked off his American Dream tour in the city earlier this week. Of course, it was a pretty chill, wholesome, and interesting interview that saw the rapper go down memory lane with a whole lot of “How do you know that?” answers. Moreover, the two talked about the history behind some of the Atlanta MC’s beats, his London background and that of his mother, what’s next for him on the trek, and his first-ever show in the A.

Overall, it was a nice interview to watch as usual, and a nice cool-down moment amid absolute warfare in the hip-hop game. Kendrick Lamar just name-dropped 21 Savage as one of the Atlanta artists that Drake is “colonizing” on his latest diss track in their battle, “Not Like Us.” As such, a lot of people reacted comically to this in the interview’s YouTube comments section and on social media, remarking how he’s just having fun and keeping busy while his Her Loss partner is on the battlefield. Some even joked that 21 is the mole, and that Nardwuar is the one that has been feeding both sides all that information.

Jokes aside, though, we’ve actually seen 21 Savage living his best life these days amid a busy tour schedule, such as singing on Instagram again and showing some love to Ayra Starr. It’s unclear whether he or other name-dropped artists on either side will chime into this beef, especially in his specific case as he’s on tour right now and probably wouldn’t want to have any part in it. It’s not like they should in the first place, but it’s an interesting parallel since Drake was on tour when Kendrick Lamar dropped “Like That” and only responded after. But that’s enough speculation… we’re not Nardwuar, after all.

Meanwhile, speaking of the “Jimmy Cooks” duo, Drake and 21 Savage recently appeared in the city of Chicago’s lawsuit against Glock, with that track specifically seeing mention as an example of prolific references to the gun brand in media. Probably not the association that they expected, but here we are. It doesn’t affect either MC in any way, but it does go to show the very tangible and unignored reach that they have. It also shows how folks will only question these references when they’re not in an entertainment or capitalistic context… but that’s another story.

Cardi B Reacts To Controversial NSFW 20 vs. 1 Episode

Cardi B is no stranger to taking to social media to react to just about anything going on in the world. Most recently she jumped on her Instagram live and while there she shared her reaction to a controversial episode of the YouTube show 20 vs. 1. The shows format focuses on just one guy facing up against 20 girls in a variety of social challenges. In a recent episode they had a particularly NSFW incident that caught the attention of a lot of people online. Eventually the buzz got loud enough that it reached Cardi.

In the clip, she seems to take issue with the actions at hand. In the same kind of rambling, hilarious tone that fans have become accustomed to she explains why she can’t stand by the actions in the video. “I want better for you” she says specifically of J.P, the rapper who plays the roll of the 1 in the video. In the comments, fans largely agree with her take on the episode. “People not being afraid of STD scare me real bad” one of the top comments reads. “Let’s definitely bring back S shaming bc yall got men out here thinking every woman is easy & don’t deserve basic respect” another comment agrees. Willow Performs A Career-Spanning Setlist In New Tiny Desk Concert

The NPR Tiny Desk has served as a unqiue stage for many rappers and singers to show off their skills. Artists like Tyler, The Creator, Mac Miller, and Anderson .Paak have all made memorable appearances behind the titular desk. There’s been an extremely impressive roster of bands and artists to play behind the desk over the years. During the COVID-19 pandemic they even creatively shifted the series to memorable at-home additions from artists like Young Thug and Clipping. Now, R&B darling Willow is the latest to take the iconic stage.

For her performance she dipped back into her discography and delivered a career-spanning set. She played a trio of songs set to land on her upcoming album including “Symptom Of Life,” “Run,” and “Big Feelings.” In between, she dipped into her 2022 album COPINGMECHANISM for the song “Split.” After that she went all the way back to her 2015 debut album ARDIPITHECUS for a special performance of the fan-favorite “Wait A Minute.” She did it all with the help of a lively four piece band. The video is already racking up hundreds of thousands of views and is currently trending on YouTube.

Willow is gearing up to release a new album later this year. “symptom of life” isn’t the only song she’s shared from the project so far. Last year she dropped “alone” back in November which has racked up more than 3 million streams on Spotify. Just last month she dropped “b i g f e e l i n g s” which is well on its way to matching those numbers with nearly 1.5 million streams in less than a month.

2023 was the first year since 2018 that Willow didn’t drop a new studio album following three solo releases and her collaborative project THE ANXIETY. Kendrick Lamar Rakes In Impressive Number Of Plays On “Euphoria” Just 24 Hours Later

The beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake has seemingly closed its first chapter after the Compton superstar dropped “euphoria” out of nowhere. It caught the entire hip-hop community off guard, and it left everyone scrambling to react and break down the bars. Both Dot and Drizzy’s stans alike have been staunchly supporting their guys over who is on top, and it has been great to see the competitive fervor once again. Currently, the response to “Push Ups” and “Taylor Made Freestyle is only on YouTube right now. Still, even with the minimal release and promotion, “euphoria” has racked up a ton streams for Kendrick Lamar.

In a recent Instagram post from thehiphopwolf, the account revealed that the track had brought in around 7.7 million plays in just 24 hours. In fact, that number has increased by about 300,000 at the time of writing, bringing the new total to 8.1 million. For comparison, Drake’s “Push Ups” has over 6.4 million views, and that hit YouTube officially almost two weeks ago. However, it still sits number eight on trending for music.

But “euphoria” has Kendrick at number one on trending overall, so in that aspect, he is winning. Then, on the other hand, Drake does have the streaming advantage by default. It has over 40 million plays on Spotify and debuted at number 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Ice Spice And Cash Cobain Take Over A Chinese Restaurant In The Music Video For “Fisherrr”

Ice Spice is still a relatively new artist but she’s developing a knack for good visuals quickly. She’s already dazzled fans with the music videos for songs like “Barbie World” and “Deli” and she doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon in her new era. That includes the new remix she did with Cash Cobain of his viral TikTok hit “Fisherrr.” Despite her remix leaking earlier this week it was officially released overnight and fans gravitated to it quickly. Earlier today the song got an official music video and it’s getting similar treatment from fans.

In the visuals for the song, Spice and Cobain are hanging out in an NYC Chinese restaurant. The visuals include the pair rapping from a busy kitchen, ordering takeout, and even some hilarious food shots in line with Spice’s lyrics. Those shots are intercut with the pair rapping in other places like the backseat of a car or in the street with a vintage film look. The video has well over 20k views after just an hour with many more likely to follow. Check out the brand new visuals below.

While the new single is clicking with a lot of fans, it hasn’t been without some backlash. Much of that has spawned from the allegedly AI-generated album cover, which a fan pointed out online. AI is a hot-button issue among musicians right now who are worried about having their voices stolen and reproduced without their consent by artificial learning. Consequently, that’s probably why Spice quickly apologized for the move in a quote tweet. She also seemingly tried to save face by claiming that she didn’t actually know it was AI-generated until it was pointed out by fans.

In the past year, De La Soul have returned to the rap world in a major way. After a long drought of new material they finally were able to make much of their collection available on streaming services for the first time. This allowed an entire generation of new rap fans to get into their music and sparked newfound interest in the legendary trio. De La Soul’s comeback continued last month when they got some good news about one of their classic albums. The rap trio’s critically acclaimed 1989 debut 3 Feet High And Rising was officially added to the Grammy Hall of Fame earlier this month. It was joined by yet another iconic rap debut, Mr. Lauryn Hill’s first solo album The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill.
