Young Thug, Juelz Santana, French Montana, And Other Rappers Referenced In YNW Melly Murder Trial

It’s been another busy day as updates continue to flow in from the YNW Melly double murder trial. Law & Crime reporter Bryson “Boom” Paul previously confirmed that one of the prosecution’s witnesses, Detective Danny Polo, will be removing the court-sanctioned ski mask he wore during last week’s testimony to protect his identity. Since taking off the face covering, the undercover officer has name-dropped several noteworthy rappers, including Juelz Santana and French Montana.

In one of Paul’s tweets, he shared that Polo stated that Santana is “a blood gang member.” At the time, the detective was reading a requested text message from a GBK gang member. He’s known as “Goon,” and he was reaching out to Melly’s shared phone with one of his alleged victims. Elsewhere in the same text, French Montana’s name is mentioned. However, Danny made it clear in today’s testimony that he’s unsure if the “Unforgettable” artist is gang-affiliated or not.

Detective Danny Polo’s Testimony Mentions Several Rappers During YNW Melly Trial

In another tweet approximately 30 minutes later, Paul referenced other messages sent to Melly and the late YNW SakChaser’s joint phone. Goon and an affiliate named Hurk were contacting the two young men, name-dropping other known rappers like Young Thug, Boosie Badazz, Quando Rondo, and JGreen in their texts. Interestingly, nearly every name on the list has been involved in legal trouble of their own lately, from the 40-year-old’s federal arrest earlier this month to Quando’s alleged affiliation with the Rollin’ 60s being outed during his arrest.

Speaking of Young Thug, the YSL rapper remains behind bars amid his RICO trial. Still, he managed to drop an impressive album in the form of BUSINESS IS BUSINESS this past Friday (June 23). Based on today’s first week sales projections, it’s expected to chart at No. 1 – if it can beat out the latest project from country star Morgan Wallen. YNW Melly Update: Undercover Detective Will Remove Ski Mask For Testimony, Judge Rules

It’s Monday once again, and while most of the world is back at their 9-5, YNW Melly is back in court for his double murder trial. Proceedings officially began earlier this month in Broward County, several years after the young rapper turned himself into the police. Things initially seemed to be going in Melly’s favour, however, evidence submitted last week shows alleged texts between the 23-year-old and his mother, Jamie King, in which he asked her to bring him a gun around the time of YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser’s deaths.

Detective Danny Polo, who’s incredibly familiar with Melly’s case, took the stand ahead of the weekend as a witness for the prosecution. At the time, he donned a court-sanctioned ski mask to help conceal his identity out of concern for his family. However, according to Law & Crime, one of the jury members expressed an issue with this in a note to Judge John Murphy III. When court resumed this morning (June 26), correspondent Bryson “Boom” Paul shared on Twitter that Polo will be removing his mask for the remainder of his testimony.

YNW Melly’s Trial Resumes Today

Since Judge Murphy’s ruling, the defense has hardly made objections, though Melly’s attorney did speak out when what sounds like his voice was played in an audio recording of a phone call. According to Polo’s testimony, he believes that the Florida native was being recruited by two separate G-Shine Bloods gang members.

While listening to the call, the undercover detective shared that he’s “listened to hours of Melly’s music, watched music videos, and listened to jail phone calls,” making him one of the strongest witnesses we’ve seen take the stand so far.

YNW Melly Asked His Mom To Buy Him A Legal Gun, Prosecution Claims In Ongoing Trial

YNW Melly’s double murder trial has been playing out for the better part of June, and so far, we’ve seen plenty of interesting twists and turns in the case. The accused killer has been making plenty of headlines with his antics, from appearing to pray before jurors entered the courtroom to being criticized for smiling from ear to ear and letting his personality shine through during some of the proceedings. In the beginning, many lawyers chiming in on the case shared the opinion that Melly could potentially beat his charges due to the prosecution’s near-impossible job proving him guilty.

However, new evidence has seemingly turned things around, as alleged text messages between the Florida native and his mother, Jamie King, have been presented as evidence against him. In the video below, the prosecution presents screenshots of messages sent by Melly both ahead of and following the homicides, using his consistent speech pattern to prove their validity. “Listen I [don’t] care about any of this but you [and] I have not posted anything about Sak,” King wrote to her son about one his alleged victims prior to his death. “He jumping what his sister started, making posts about me.”

Prosecution Presents Troubling Evidence Against YNW Melly

More screenshots shown later in the video find Melly asking his mother to “Get [him] a Glock ASAP,” as well as sending her his location around the time the crimes took place in 2018. “Like go now,” YNW urged her. “Ok, what’s wrong? I got your .45,” she wrote back. “I just don’t want no illegal gun. Well dats not illegal,” the recording artist responded.

“But I rather have a Glock 40 or 19,” other alleged messages from Melly read. Shortly after the seven-minute mark, Melly’s defense attorneys attempt to object, however, the judge allowed the prosecution to continue. Now that these receipts have entered the chat, social media commentators are starting to think things might not go in his favour.

2022 Mugshot Of YNW Melly’s Attorney Surfaces Online

Screen Shot 2023 06 22 at 11.25.22 AM

Less than a week after YNW Melly’s lawyer made headlines during his double murder trial for her “Evil Plans and Stuff” notebook, but now her mugshot has gone viral during the highly publicized, media crazed case.

Raven Liberty, the attorney for Jamell Demons aka YNW Melly in his livestreamed, double homicide trial, has her own mugshot circulating around the internet from a 2022 arrest in Miami for battery. Liberty, 48, was ordered to pay $1500 in that case to have all charges dropped.

Liberty is also known for helping Kodak Black in several of his legal battles, including the 2021 assault and battery case, where Black received 18 months in that case, but violated probation and received 46 months before being granted clemency by President Trump in 2022.

YNW Melly Trial: Sick Juror Replaced By Alternate

Everyone in the fields of hip-hop culture and crime is keeping a close eye on the YNW Melly double murder trial. Moreover, small developments in the case could end up having big consequences, as the most recent events display in a seemingly small but crucial way. Furthermore, journalist Bryson “Boom” Paul reported that the court replaced a sick juror with an alternate individual on Thursday (June 22). As such, this could potentially impact the trial depending on whether or not the new juror will interpret the case in the same way that the original one would. Regardless, at least it was a potentially speed bump in the proceedings that the court was able to sidestep swiftly.

In addition, changes like these could also have big implications considering a recent decision on the integrity of the case. On Tuesday (June 20), Judge Murphy III denied YNW Melly’s defense team’s motion for a mistrial, and the case continued as planned. For those unaware, the rapper’s attorneys believed evidence presented by the state to be prejudicial and therefore improper. In other words, this evidence did not further the facts of the case, in the defense’s eyes, but rather placed a bias on their client that could unrightfully impact the verdict.

Ill Juror Gets Replacement In YNW Melly Case: Report

Still, there seems to be a lot to still go through in this trial, especially with the contention present regarding the mistrial. Since that decision, a few other updates from the courtroom proved interesting to the public- with one in particular being favorable for YNW Melly. During Wednesday’s proceedings (June 21), the court maintained that prosecutors committed a discovery violation. Apparently, as a result of not disclosing an additional forensics report, the court will now bar certain information from being brought forth as evidence.

Of course, it’s unclear whether said evidence would have acted in the Florida native’s favor at the end of the day. That being said, it being a part of the case built by the prosecution likely couldn’t have spelled out good news for him. With that in mind, stay logged into HNHH for the latest news, updates, and viral moments from the YNW Melly trial.

YNW Melly’s Murder Trial Stress Gave His Mother A Heart Attack, She Claims

YNW Melly’s ongoing double-murder trial has brought forth plenty of interesting revelations so far. It seems the proceedings have been particularly difficult on the mothers involved, especially those of the two victims – YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. Of course, there’s also the mother of Melly’s ex-girlfriend. She was brought to the stand as a witness for the prosecution last week. During her testimony, the woman made it abundantly clear that she and her daughter have felt as though they’re being threatened by law enforcement.

While that news was upsetting to hear, it dulls in comparison to claims from Melly’s own mother. She apparently suffered a heart attack due to her stress. Jamie King, who’s been in the courtroom regularly, used an Instagram Story to express her feelings earlier this week. “I’m deleting this app. I can’t be crying and making myself upset because of a lying clout chaser who won’t even show his face in court but care so much,” she vented over a black screen. “I had one heart attack already because of stress,” King added.

“I refuse to let this kill me, I try to be peaceful and respectful to all of you. I pray for everyone because I know it’s the right thing to do ❤️‍🩹,” King’s rant ended. Today (June 20), Melly is back in Broward County court as his trial resumes. As previously reported, he’s the first person facing new state laws that require a minimum 8-4 vote by a jury to convict with the death penalty.

In terms of other recent updates on the YNW Melly double-murder trial, the 23-year-old was officially denied a mistrial following the defense’s motion on his behalf. Regardless of this loss, attorney Bradford Cohen, who previously represented Melly, has shared his opinion that the prosecution will likely have a hard time proving that the accused killer is guilty for a number of reasons. YNW Melly’s Gained Almost 800K Spotify Monthly Listeners Since Trial Started

The double murder trial of YNW Melly has netted him a lot of extra numbers on streaming platforms. Whether his supporters returned to his music, other tuned in out of morbid interest, or unfamiliar folks just wanted to know who this rapper is, the Florida native’s music got a huge popularity boost. Moreover, his Spotify monthly listeners reportedly went up by 8.2% since his trial started on Monday, June 12. This reflects an additional 794,119 new listeners, adding to a total of 10,468,061 as of Monday, June 19. Of course, those metrics are bound to keep rising as the trial goes on.

Furthermore, we previously reported that he racked up two and a half million Spotify streams within the trial’s first 24 hours alone. Not only that, but these metrics are all using only one streaming platform’s data to measure them. If you crunch the numbers on sites like Apple Music or YouTube, surely there might be a similarly notable increase. Even though the trial has had no shortage of controversy so far, that’s only making people more curious to check out YNW Melly’s music.

YNW Melly Nabs Hundreds Of Thousands Of New Listeners

In fact, a particular ruling in court might motivate people even more to listen to the 24-year-old’s work guilt-free. Last week, Judge John Murphy III rejected the “Murder On My Mind” music video as proposed evidence in the trial. This is due to, according to the judge, the video not furthering the case’s pursuit of fact in the murders of YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. However, it would create a bias against YNW Melly due to the video and song’s content, in a way that does not actually prove or pose any relevance to the deaths in question. For this reason, it was denied a place in the courtroom as a part of the prosecution’s argument.

Meanwhile, said attempts at presenting improper evidence in the court’s eyes resulted in the “223’s” MC’s attorney motioning for a mistrial. The defense accused evidence and testimonies of being prejudicial and painting a negative light in a way irrelevant to the charges. As such, the mistrial request will be the main topic discussed when trial resumes tomorrow (Tuesday, June 20). If accepted, that doesn’t make him free just yet, but it does suggest that this will be a much harder case than the state probably thought.
