Wiz Khalifa Weighs In On J Cole’s Legacy After Kendrick Lamar Apology

Wiz Khalifa dropped by Club Shay Shay to discuss the current state of hip hop. He’s an established star, following the same meteoric rise and subsequent transition to stoner celebrity as Snoop Dogg. It can be easy to forget, however, that Wiz Khalifa came up during the same blog rap era that produced the likes of Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J Cole. He may no longer be as relevant as the “Big Three,” but he’s uniquely qualified to speak on their careers. This qualification is what made his opinion on J Cole so interesting.

Shannon Sharpe asked Wiz Khalifa how he felt about Cole’s apology. The Dreamville veteran infamously took down his diss against Kendrick Lamar, and deemed it the “wackest sh*t” of his career. Wiz was not expecting the question, but he gave a measured response. He admitted that, as a rapper, he wasn’t very into what J Cole did. “In hip hop, according to the rules,” Wiz Khalifa posited. “Nah, hell nah. You’re not supposed to do that.” However, the Pittsburgh legend felt that what J Cole did was the smart move on a human level. “In real life, you can take back some sh*t that you said,” he admitted.

Wiz Khalifa Dubbed J Cole The “Bigger Man”

Wiz Khalifa also felt J Cole proved himself to be the “bigger person” by apologizing. “It takes a bigger man to actually be like, ‘I don’t want no problems,’” he explained. “In real life, I f*ck with it… I’ll let other people do the hip hop thing.” Wiz Khalifa falls into the majority of rappers when it comes to assessing J Cole’s apology. While it was generally frowned upon at the time, Cole’s decision to apologize has since been praised for being a mature decision. Charlamagne Tha God was someone who initially clowned J Cole but subsequently changed his tune. “I’m a spiritual being living a human existence has nothing but respect for what J. Cole did,” he said.

Wiz Khalifa also weighed in on the third person in the “Big Three” discussion, Drake. He was asked what he thought about the 6 God’s motions against UMG and Spotify. Without missing a beat, the rapper said that Drake has always been the same person. “Naw, it sounds like a Drake move to me,” he quipped. Wiz did praise the rapper’s business acumen, though. “He’s a musician and a businessman in my eyes,” the rapper added. “I mean it’s a smart thing to do.”

Wiz Khalifa Throws Some Shade At Drake For His “Not Like Us” Petitions

It’s no secret how most of the hip-hop world and fans alike are feeling about Drake right now. It really is a “20 V 1,” as almost everyone is completely against him for filing two pre-action petitions. They both involve UMG, as well as Spotify and iHeartRadio, and he’s accusing them of artificially boosting play of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” Most of the damage is looking to be done to UMG though, as Drake is also accusing them of defamation for allowing the diss track to drop. As you all are aware by now, Lamar throws some pedophilic allegations his way on it.

After filing the first petition to New York and the other to Texas last month, there are now hearing dates for both. According to XXL, his court date involving Spotify and UMG will take place next year on January 16 at the New York Supreme Court. As for the defamation issue, that hearing date is much sooner. In fact, it’s coming up on December 19. It’s worth noting that none of these have gone to the extent of a lawsuit just yet, as Drake and his legal reps are still trying to gather more information to back his claims.

Wiz Khalifa Gets Fans To Laugh At His Sly Drake Diss

Regardless of how you want to classify them, though, the response to them has been not so nice, as we said. Most of the attention has shifted to Jay-Z’s recent allegations as of late, but the topic is still very much a hot one. So, it comes as no surprise that Shannon Sharpe recently spoke about it on his Club Shay Shay platform. He did so with Wiz Khalifa, his latest guest on the show.

Overall, he’s not shocked that Drake would do such a thing. In interview, he recognizes that he’s a musician and a businessman, and a smart one at that. He especially feels that way in terms of the latter, saying, “If he’s not in the public eye winning musically, he’s going to get a win wherever he can. I mean it’s just the smart thing to do… [Drake] is playing it exactly how he’s supposed to.” However, people are clipping one part of that conversation and running with it. They are of the belief that Wiz Khalifa actually disses Drake instead. It happens when Sharpe asks if Wiz believes he took it to far by suing Lamar. To that, he said, “Nah it sound like a Drake move to me.” You can take it how you want, but we disagree slightly.

Here, Wiz Khalifa embraces the reggae sounds to create a truly immersive and intoxicating listening experience. He does have two pretty substantial verses on the track. Wiz Khalifa Snaps At Man Throwing Money At Him During Performance

Wiz Khalifa is one of the chillest guys in hip hop. It’s part of his persona. The rapper is always smoked out and happy. Well, for the most part. Fans got to see a rare instance of “Black and Yellow” get frustrated at a recent concert. He was performing in Thailand before a sold out crowd, but things took an odd turn, it seems, when a concertgoer decided to make it rain. Wiz Khalifa was visibly thrown off by the decision, and made it clear that he was not a fan of what this fan chose to do.

Wiz was performing during an afterparty for Rolling Loud Thailand at Club 808. TMZ obtained footage of the rapper performing his aforementioned hit, “Black and Yellow,” before addressing the crowd. “I wanna show love to everybody in here,” he explained. “But there’s one person that I need to talk to.” Wiz Khalifa proceeded to single out the fan who had been throwing dollar bills during his set. “This guy right here,” he asserted. “Stop throwing money on the stage. I’m not no stripper dawg. Stop throwing money on the stage.” The camera then pans to the fan in question, who nods in agreement.

Wiz Khalifa Told Fans He’s “Not A Dancer”

“Keep your money,” Wiz Khalifa added. “It’s your money.” The rapper then motioned to the employees of the club and requested that the money be collected from the floor and given back to the fan in question. “Give it back to him,” he added. “Give all his money back to him. You can throw it at a girl, you can throw it at the homies, do not throw money at me.” Wiz Khalifa tripled down at this point, sensing that he wasn’t getting through the way he intended. “Please, I’m asking you,” he explained. “This is a request. I’m not a dancer, you throw money at dancers.” The audience showed their support for the Pittsburgh rapper by cheering him on.

Wiz Khalifa seemed to fall back and mellow out following the interaction. He picked up where the show left off, and proceeded to delight the rest of the concertgoers with a performance of “We Dem Boyz.” Wiz Khalifa recently sold his sprawling Washington County home in Pittsburgh. CBS News reports the rapper sold the estate for $1.3 million after purchasing it in 2012 for $900K. The superstar rapper also welcomed a daughter with girlfriend Aimee Aguilar in July.

Wiz Khalifa is known for being rather cool guy. In fact, the “See You Again” rapper’s only issues (at least on the legal front) are connected to his love of marijuana.

According to Wiz, he get his chill demeanor from his mother. Over the weekend, one fan managed to from Wiz from his cloud of zen. While performing at a Rolling Loud Thailand after party held at Club 808 in Pattaya, an attendee ticked Wiz off by throwing money on stage. Although he is a fan of exotic clubs, he didn’t appreciate the gesture and was sure to verbalize it.

In a video captured by an attendee (viewable here), Wiz Khalifa reprimanded the assailant. “Stop throwing money on the stage,” he said. “I’m not a stripper, dog. Quit throwing money on the stage.”

The attendee can be heard apologizing for his actions. But it seems he had already been warned based on Wiz’s follow-up statement. “I’ve already told you once,” he said. “I’m not a dancer. If you don’t know I’m Wiz Khalifa.”

Wiz Khalifa Continues Rollout For “Kush + Orange Juice 2” With Don Toliver-Assisted “Hide It”

Wiz Khalifa’s mixtape catalog is held in high regard and one of the reasons why is thanks to his 2010 release, Kush & Orange Juice. It remains as one of the most popular of the last decade and for good reason. It helped put the Pittsburgh native into the limelight and it’s really shaped him into the artist we know and love all of these years after it. Fairly soon, Wiz will be reviving it to some degree in the form of a sequel project, Kush + Orange Juice 2. There’s some speculation that it will arrive sometime in November, but there’s no release date set in stone.

If it does come out before the end of the year, it will be his second LP of 2024. Wiz came through sort of out of nowhere in late July with Wiz Owens. However, there was an indicator that this was a part of his lowkey plans to drop twice. That phase two is now officially Kush + OJ 2, as we already have received “Khalifa’s Home.” Now, he’s back to drop off another offering, this time with a feature. Him and Don Toliver have collaborated once before, with 2019’s “Back Up” being that other occasion. Fans were fairly lukewarm on “Khalifa’s Home,” as some felt he was straying away from what he does best. But “Hide It” may regain some of those skeptics as it a weed-smoking jam if we’ve ever heard one. It’s wavy, melodic, and catchy, and one that Khalifa’s fan base will appreciate.

Wiz Khalifa Was Indicted For Illegal Drug Use At A Romanian Music Festival

If you plan on booking Wiz Khalifa for your festival, you can’t possibly be surprised when he inevitably lights up a doobie onstage, to the delight of his very empathetic fans.

You can, however, arrest him for it, apparently. The Pittsburgh rapper was picked up by police after performing at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinești, Romania. While the arrest was just after the performance back on July 13th, he was just recently indicted, according to XXL, which conveyed a report from Romanian news outlet Romania-Insider.

Romanian authorities decided to indict Wiz for illicit drug use, as marijuana is illegal in Romania. If convicted, he could be sentenced to anywhere from a few months to two years in prison, and be ordered to pay a fine. This makes his promise to return to Romania shortly after his release a lot less likely. “I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote on Twitter at the time. “They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time.”

A statement released by Romanian police in July read: “Investigations revealed that during a performance at a music festival in the Costinești resort, Constanța County, he possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis (a risk drug) and consumed another quantity of cannabis on stage in the form of a hand-rolled cigarette.”
