Travis Scott Goes After “UTOPIA” Tour Production Company For $100 Million

Travis Scott might have had an incredibly successful tour for his 2023 album UTOPIA, but one particular aspect left him fuming. He launched a $100 million lawsuit against Wyoming-based production company Show Motion Engineering (SME) for allegedly damaging his brand and causing significant financial losses. Specifically, La Flame and his legal team allege that SME did not deliver on their promise to make the rapper a custom stage set for his 2023 tour for the aforementioned album, and also claimed that they exploited his image and name without his permission. His company XX Global backed up his claims that SME breached their stage contract based on a $1.5 million commission.

According to court documents reportedly obtained by AllHipHop, the Nike collaborator accused SME of failing to build the stage for an inspection, which the contract apparently ordered before the transfer of any final payment. As such, Travis Scott’s team did not send future payments through, which led SME to hold the set hostage and lead to its inability of use for the 2023 UTOPIA tour. Not only that, but the lawsuit also alleges that SME added insult to injury by failing to deliver the stage and using the Houston MC’s brand for profit.

Furthermore, this includes SME’s allegedly unauthorized use of Travis Scott’s likeness, name, and past concerts as promo material for the company’s website, including designs copyrighted by XX Global. As such, the “CIRCUS MAXIMUS” multi-hyphenate alleges that SME tried to improve their reputation and seek out prospective clients by using this material without permission.

“The aforementioned acts, among others…were done intentionally or with a conscious disregard of [Travis Scott’s] rights, and with the intent to vex, injure or annoy [Scott] such as to constitute oppression, fraud, or malice, thus entitling [Scott] to exemplary and punitive damages in an amount appropriate to punish or set an example of Defendants, and each of them, and to deter such conduct in the future,” Scott’s attorney Edwin F. McPherson reportedly stated. As for damages, the 2025 Coachella designer wants $5 million in direct copyright infringement losses and approximately $10 million that represent profits that SME allegedly benefitted from their marketing with the copyrighted designs. Finally, for the alleged violation of his publicity rights and the misuse of his image and name, he wants SME to cough up $100 million.

Travis Scott’s Aiming For Second Highest Grossing Rap Tour In History

Last year, Travis Scott released his new album UTOPIA. The project was his first in 5 years dating back to his 2018 smash hit ASTROWORLD. With how much fervor there was for new music from the “SICKO MODE” rapper it’s no surprise that there was equal demand to see him perform live. Following the album’s release he took off on the Circus Maximus tour which shares its name with a song from the album and the short film that accompanied its release. Since then he’s been churning away on tour shows and racking up an incredibly impressive total gross.

With the addition of new dates in the European leg of the tour, Travis Scott could now be embarking on one of the highest-selling tours in rap history. According to TouringData, the 61 shows he’s playing on tour are now expected to sell a total of 1.1 million tickets. That’s predicted to make for a total gross somewhere in the $130-140 million range. They also report that those numbers would make for the second highest-grossing rap tours ever. Just last year Drake set the record for highest-grossing tour by a rapper with his It’s All A Blur tour which featured opening appearances from Sexyy Red, J. Cole, and 21 Savage.

Travis Scott And Playboi Carti’s ‘Fe!n’ Video Is Every Rager’s Deepest, Dark, And Dizzying Fantasy

Yesterday (March 30), Travis Scott made his long-awaited return to Saturday Night Live.

Although the “KPop” rapper didn’t appear in any of the evening’s sketches, he did treat the audience to two performances of tracks from his latest album, Utopia (“My Eyes” and “Fe!n” featuring Playboi Carti). With all attention on him, he figured it would be the perfect time to share the official visual of the project’s most popular track.

So, over on Scott’s YouTube channel, he shared his Gabriel Moses-directed video for “Fe!n.” The cinematic visual features Scott and Carti in the shadows of a black room as he spirals around the varying parts of himself, making for an exciting watch. Scott’s dramatic rotation and lively response make the video a visual representation of every rager’s deepest dark and dizzying fantasy brought to film.

Scott’s live performance style for the track has received mixed reviews. Rapper-turned-podcaster Joe Budden outright bashed his 2024 Grammys rendition. “Get the f*ck off the stage,” he shouted during an episode of his namesake podcast.

However, supporters have made “Fe!n” Scott’s mandatory repeat track during his live shows. On the Utopia Tour, the Oklahoma crowd made him perform the song ten times.

Travis Scott On “SNL”: La Flame Taps Playboi Carti, Performs “MY EYES,” And Acts In Music Video Skit

There was doubt as to whether Travis Scott could make a comeback from his disastrous Astroworld Festival in 2021 or not, but landing a gig as the musical performer on Saturday Night Live is a strong indication that he’s recovering well. Yesterday (March 30), the father of two boldly made his presence felt in New York City, where he brought two popular songs from his latest LP, UTOPIA, to the stage. For his solo appearance, Scott gave us a mellow rendition of “MY EYES,” complete with trippy visuals.

Later, to celebrate the debut of his new music video, La Flame brought out Playboi Carti to perform “FE!N,” which has become a crowd favourite at his live shows. The crowd was pleased to see the “Magnolia” artist in his element alongside Scott, not to mention watching the Houston native let his creativity flow freely after restraining it and laying low for so long. Interestingly, the “SICKO MODE” hitmaker is now requesting that he be removed from any outstanding Astroworld Festival lawsuits, as he wasn’t overseeing the security of the event.

Besides performing, it’s also tradition for SNL musical guests to get in on the acting fun too. Scott happily partook, appearing in a music video skit with host Ramy Youssef that sees them channelling their inner Lonely Island, as Entertainment Weekly points out. Their spoof track, “Please Don’t Destroy – We Got Too High” sees the actors pouring their anxious feelings into the song, even using some of Trav’s signature voice-altering techniques.
