The Music Videos That Showcase The Genius Of Dave Meyers

Dave Meyers music videos

Dave Meyers has consistently pushed the boundaries of music video artistry throughout his career, collaborating with a diverse range of musicians and bringing his visionary, audacious approach to each link-up. His extensive portfolio spans multiple genres, showcasing his ability to adapt and innovate while maintaining a signature style and finesse.

Though he began his career working with major film companies, his true passion is in music. His work reflects his deep understanding of its impact, combining cutting-edge ideas with a keen sense of appreciation for the art form. Whether crafting futuristic environments, implementing intricate choreography, or crafting surreal visuals, Meyers’ work remains a testament to his pioneering spirit, allowing the visual experience of music to stand as an art in itself.

Take a look at our list of the most lauded Meyers masterpieces to see if your favorites made the cut. (Spoiler: The video he directed for Little Simz’s “Gorilla,” which was picked up a Sound + Vision award for Best Short Form Video, is included.) And also note, Meyers has directed hundreds of videos and we could easily list dozens more, from Billie Eilish and Harry Styles to Sabrina Carpenter and Coldplay.

Missy Elliott – “Get Ur Freak On”

In the first of what would be many collabs with the one and only Missy Elliott, the 2001 cultural staple features exactly what you’d expect from both creatives — visually stunning, boundary-pushing work. “Get Ur Freak On” features a dark, dank setting with porcelain, gargoyle-like figures that eerily watch as Missy and her army-clad dancers groove to Timbaland’s legendary, bhangra-influenced beat. The video’s out-of-this-world distinctiveness would eventually become a core attribute of future Meyers-Missy joints, such as “One Minute Man,” “Work It,” and “Lose Control,” to name a few.

Outkast – “B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)”

Renowned for its eye-popping effects and technicolor chaos, Meyers’ work with Outkast on their Stankonia hit “B.O.B” is an exact reflection of the frenetic, futuristic energy the song purveys. The video’s high-octane choreography and experimental editing techniques immerse viewers in a tornado of vivid imagery and rapid-fire sequences. These hallmarks don’t only enhance the song’s intensity — they highlight both the director and the ATLiens’ bold, creative approaches to their art.

Aaliyah – “More Than A Woman”

Aaliyah’s style effortlessly bridged then-current trends with forward-thinking flair, making each of her projects both timeless and ahead of their time. Meyers’ presentation of her edgy yet elegant aesthetic through his directorial work in “More Than A Woman” underscored just how much more the ingenue had to offer. Stylized set design and superior visual angles — coupled with Aaliyah’s captivating and cool delivery — demonstrate her immense potential. The video was released shortly after the superstar’s tragic death in August 2001, and it left a lasting impression of what could have been.

Usher – “U Remind Me”

Boundaries between reality and fantasy blur seamlessly within Usher’s “U Remind Me.” The 2001 video introduces a bevy of women who echo the faces of Mr. Raymond’s past flings. A standout appearance by his then-longtime love, Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas of TLC fame, creates a poignant link between his personal history and the narrative. The vibrant orange and red backdrop sets a dramatic stage for Usher’s now-iconic solo sequence, where his athleticism and smooth swagger are on full display. This combination of intimate reflection and daring visual style highlights Meyers’ unique ability to intertwine personal connection with artistic imagination, making “U Remind Me” a memorable testament both to Usher’s charm and the power of visionary direction.

Travis Scott – “Sicko Mode”

Throughout Meyers’ work in “Sicko Mode” alongside co-director Travis Scott, viewers are immediately greeted by a vibrant and surreal world that harbors a subtly apocalyptic undertone beneath its colorful veneer — which is perfectly reflective of Scott’s signature branding. Shot in La Flame’s hometown of Houston, the visual swiftly transitions through a whirlwind of scenes, allowing Meyers’ trademark rapid editing style to truly take center stage. The “rager” energy is palpable as Travis Scott and the song’s featured artist Drake oscillate between bizarre scenarios. Each moment bursts with offbeat creativity that bolsters the track’s dynamic intensity — as well as what both artists often bring to the table.

Kendrick Lamar – “Humble”

K. Dot’s “Humble” visual — much like the artist himself — implements a raw, bombastic style that marked a new chapter in his creative evolution. Meyers injects quirky, throwback angles and fisheye lenses into the video, combining old-school techniques with a modern twist. Set design, costumes, and motifs (such as a masterfully figurative callback to Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper) amplify the video’s themes, creating a contrast between opulence and humility. True to Lamar’s no-nonsense style, Meyers delivers a powerfully direct visual experience that perfectly complements the song’s uncompromising message.

N.E.R.D. – “She Wants To Move”

Meyers sets a strikingly bold tone that instantly captures your attention with “She Wants To Move,” thanks to N.E.R.D.’s floating, bopping heads. Outside of a magnetic dance performance from multi-hyphenate Alesha Dixon, the video’s literal interpretation of the lyrics (such as the imaginative depiction of “her ass is a spaceship I want to ride”) amplifies its creativity. The narrative unfolds with a woman fervently rushing to the dance floor, embodying an uninhibited refusal to be restrained in her self-expression through movement. Meyers’ direction expertly blends avant-garde visuals with energetic dance sequences, adding yet another compelling example of his genius.

Normani – “Motivation”

With Meyers at the helm, Normani’s breakout hit “Motivation” allowed her to step into the solo spotlight outside of Fifth Harmony. The video pays homage to the revolutionary music videos that influenced Normani’s own performance style, from Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time” to Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love.” Not only does “Motivation” celebrate the classics that shaped the dance world, it also marks a moment of cultural revival, as Normani’s envious moves and Meyers’ compelling visuals invite viewers to re-discover the joy of music videos as a moment. Thanks to its nostalgic references and electrifying energy, it beautifully bridges the past with the present, establishing Normani as a promising force on the pop scene, and adding another milestone to Meyers’ directorial resume.

Victoria Monét – “Alright”

Celebrated as a vibrant tribute to the past, present, and future of pop legacies, “Alright” captures the essence of the Jacksons’ recognizable style, while setting the scene for Victoria Monét‘s own star to rise. The video showcases her extraordinary dance abilities with standout choreography that has quickly inspired TikTok challenges, further cementing her as an exemplary talent. Meyers’ innovative camera work accentuates the intricate details of her performance, highlighting the unique qualities that put her above her contemporaries. Through a seamless blend of homage and contemporary edge, “Alright” effectively spotlights Monét’s burgeoning artistry and establishes her as a powerhouse.

Little Simz – “Gorilla”

The visual for Little Simz’s 2023 track “Gorilla” showcases a dazzling array of alternate versions of Simbi, each adorned in diverse outfits ranging from cowboy couture to baseball caps and suits. A secondary music video features an interactive, AI-powered catch powered by Microsoft, which highlights the evolution of technology, while allowing Simz and Meyers’ innovative visions to soar. (“Being able to translate my emotions into my art is a skill I’ve learned to develop over the years,” Simz says of her work with the tech giant.) Despite the cutting-edge technological backdrop, the focus remains firmly on the music, underscoring Simz’s artistic prowess.

Joe Budden Receives Barrage Of Backlash For Take On Tyla & Her Behavior At The VMAs

One of the most controversial talking heads in all of hip-hop is back at it again. Over the weekend, Joe Budden and the crew got to discussing the MTV VMAs that went down last Wednesday. The main focus during that portion of the podcast had to do with Tyla. Overall, there are some that feel she was acting snobby and standoffish throughout the entire program. For example, some were critiquing her for the way she was asking Lil Nas X and Halle Bailey to help her hold her award onstage.

This led to Armon Wiggins, a pretty big multi-media personality, to call out Tyla on social media. “Hey, I don’t think I like TYLA’s personality. I think someone needs to check her ’cause she doesn’t understand American culture AT ALL. She almost gives off entitled or uppity African vibes. I don’t know how to explain it, but it’s very off-putting, and it’s almost like she expects people to just fall at her feet”.

Joe Budden Felt Tyla Curved USHER In A Stuck-Up Manner

This quote sparked debate on Joe Budden’s show as he was in complete agreement, according to IOL. Apparently, he’s been feeling this way about the “Water” hitmaker, citing an incident at one of USHER’s past shows being the catalyst. In the resurfaced clip above, USHER appears to try and get Tyla to dance on him, but she subtly dodges that advance of assumed showmanship. Joe felt she should have done it out of respect because the R&B legend was trying to show her love by doing this all while dancing to “Water”. However, his panel of co-hosts was in total disagreement, mentioning that she’s in a relationship and didn’t want to disrespect her man. That really set him off, but also the rest of the internet as they were in complete disagreement. You can see those reactions above and below.

USHER Gives Big Sean His Blessing To Sample His Work In Wholesome Resurfaced Clip

Did you expect Big Sean to be sampling an USHER song at any point? To be honest, we didn’t. But he did just that on his new album, Better Me Than You. It occurs on the album’s attempt at a catchy hit with “Who You Are (Superstar)”, which is track five. It’s not such an obvious sample, but when you play the songs back-to-back, you can hear it a little more clearly. That USHER track we are referring to is “Superstar” off of one of the singer’s most successful records to date, Confessions.

However, instead of just getting clearance through other means, Sean decided to go right to the source to get his blessing. The Neighborhood Watch reshared the clip of USHER and the Detroit MC vibing to the demo from the latter’s IG account that centers around his website. With there currently being a lot of bitterness between artists in the industry, it’s nice to see two respective stars giving each other love like this. USHER was all in for Sean’s sample flip, as you can see in the video below.

Sean gave some extra context to the post, revealing that “Who You Are (Superstar)” had been in the works for a little bit. “This was like a year ago when the song was just the demo. I had to make sure it was appropriate to sample such a classic 🔥”, he said. Hopefully with this now out there, maybe we could get a collaboration between them?

What are your thoughts on USHER giving Big Sean approval to sample his work for the latter’s Better Me Than You? Were you aware that Sean utilized a song from the R&B legend? Is it crazy to think that USHER is that far into his career where others are sampling his music? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Big Sean and USHER. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Usher’s Recent ‘Past Present Future Tour’ Stop Featured A Full-On NSFW Strip Club Segment For All To Enjoy

Due to doctor ordered delays, Usher’s Past Present Future Tour didn’t start off on the right foot. However, the “Luckiest Man” singer has surely made up for hiccup.

Yesterday (September 6), during Usher’s first night in Brooklyn he brought a little piece of his seemingly second favorite hometown staple with him — strip clubs. While at the Barclays Center, Usher transferred the stage into his own mobile exotic peep show. Although this isn’t new by any means for Usher, just see his Las Vegas residency show, but this time he was along in his tantalizing quest.

Three leading ladies in their own right, Taraji P. Henson, Victoria Monét, and Yung Miami joined Usher for the sensual showcase. As the performer showed off her gymnast moves each lady threw money to show their mesmerized support (viewable here).

At one point, Victoria Monét even ever so slightly participated before allowing to professional to put it down (or up rather). Usher has a lot of tricks in his books but none quite like his featured supporting act.

Prior to the rated R demonstration, Usher took a moment to acknowledge his “SOS (Sex On Sight)” collaborator, Victoria’s breakout year. “We love you baby girl,” he said before paying her hit song “On My Mama” over the venue’s speakers (viewable here)

Usher’s Past Present Future Tour won’t officially wrap in the US until mid-November, so there’s no telling what else he has planned.

Victoria Monet & USHER Are Ready For Action On “SOS (Sex On Sight)”

Victoria Monet and USHER are really laying it down in a hot and heavy manner on their new single, “SOS (Sex on Sight)”. This track belongs to the former of the two artists and it’s one she’s been teasing for a little over a week. On the 20th, the Atlanta Georgia native would go on to announce the release date and title of the track on her Instagram in a brief video in which she also teased the beginning of the audio, too. Then, on August 22, Monet was creating quite a lot of buzz within her fan base, hinting that a feature would be on “SOS”.

““SOS” = SEX ON SIGHT!!! 😌 Who do you think the feature is? 👀 tag them”. Finally, a day later, USHER would go to be revealed as the guest artist, which marks their first collaboration together now. This song sees one of the current R&B stars work alongside a true legend of the genre in a cool mixture of eras. “SOS” shows that in the production department, especially, thanks to the slow-mo/sensual vibe. It feels like something from the early 2000s, but it has more modern touches, too. That can be attributed to the groovy and funky bass lines, shimmering synth passages, and celebratory horn sections. Monet has been in this sonic fixation on her past two projects, but it’s been working, and it is here on “SOS (Sex on Sight)”.

I need that SOS, sex on sight, baby, it’s urgent
Let me f*** up all your plans, come put this work in
‘Cause I think it’s about time we take this all the way

Doesn’t matter ’cause they both gon’ fit you perfect
And I’m ready, so don’t make me have to do this on my own

Victoria Monét joins Eddie Francis on Apple Music 1 to talk about her experience writing “SOS (Sex on Sight)” featuring Usher. They dive into the process of how this dream collaboration came to be and Victoria teases that more music from Usher is coming very soon.

The two also discuss Victoria’s very successful year, which included GRAMMYs, record-breaking success from her single “On My Mama,” and more. Victoria teases a deluxe version of JAGUAR II and a new era on the way.

When Francis asked Monet about the Usher collaboration, she mentioned another unreleased song that the two have together.

“It’s coming in the future. I don’t know when, but there’s another song,” Monet added. “So we were working together on that song. So he came by the studio to work more on that. And when he got there, I was working on SOS, but I just had the hook only. So he was like, “Let me hear what you’re working on.” I was like, “Okay.” Nervous. So I play it, and then after the hook goes off, he starts mumbling a melody. I was like, “Hmm.” And me and DJ Camper, the producer, looked at each other and we were like, “Do you want to just go in? Maybe just try some stuff?” So he goes in the booth and starts this rap part, and then he comes out and we write a few lyrics to that. And then he has to go, he’s like jet-setting somewhere else. And then he finishes his parts in Atlanta. We decide like… We were like, at one point, “Do we do both of these songs or do we have to choose one? What’s the protocol?” But it just felt so special and so organic so that we just were like, “Let’s rock with both.” Camper got his horn player on it. We just did final touches and everything, and here it is. So I’m excited.”

Victoria Monét And Usher’s Collaboration ‘SOS (Sex On Sight)’ Is Appropriately Seductive

After working with some of the biggest names in the music industry and thriving in the underground R&B scene, Victoria Monét had her mainstream breakthrough with her 2023 album, Jaguar II. The “On My Mama” singer won a bunch of Grammys (including Best New Artist), stole the show with a Michael Jackson homage at the 2024 BET Awards, and covered Usher at Coachella. Today, Monét released a new song with the R&B legend, “SOS (Sex On Sight),” which is just as seductive as you’d hope with that title.

You can listen above.

“’SOS (Sex On Sight)’ is about desire,” Monet said in a statement. “It’s about the urgency you feel when you need some love, physical touch and quality attention! Sometimes that desire can feel as urgent as being rescued from a natural disaster, or in this case rescued from your own sensual urges. Just like a storm, SOS summons and forewarns a lover of the rainfall that is to come and welcomes the beautiful relief from that desire. It feels romantic, playful, sultry and direct. Based in fantasy and the warmest tones of R&B. It feels timeless and we hope you enjoy the escape!”

“SOS (Sex On Sight)” is the first single from the deluxe edition of Jaguar II, which doesn’t have a release date yet.

Victoria Monét and Usher Release Highly Anticipated Single “SOS (Sex On Sight)”

Three-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Victoria Monét and global entertainment icon Usher have officially joined forces to release their highly anticipated single “SOS (Sex On Sight).” The track, out now via Lovett Music/RCA Records, marks the first collaboration between these two R&B powerhouses, following a series of public moments throughout the year.

Their partnership has been teased in the lead-up to this release, with Monét gifting Usher a Super Bowl leather jacket at his Las Vegas Residency, both artists leading wins at the NAACP Image Awards, and Monét’s viral performance with Teyana Taylor at the 2024 BET Awards, where they paid homage to Usher’s iconic 2005 “Bad Girl” performance during his Lifetime Achievement Tribute.

“SOS (Sex On Sight) is about desire. It’s about the urgency you feel when you need some love, physical touch and quality attention!

– Victoria Monét

Produced by Grammy-winning producer Camper, “SOS” is a sultry R&B track that showcases Monét’s songwriting prowess, featuring her signature wordplay and double entendres. Usher’s sensual verse complements Monét’s vocals, creating a flirtatious back-and-forth that leaves listeners eagerly anticipating what’s next. “SOS” is the first release from Monét’s forthcoming JAGUAR II Deluxe album, following her Grammy Award-winning JAGUAR II.
