BossMan Dlow Debuts A Different Flow On “The Biggest Pt. 2”

BossMan Dlow has been racking up the achievements like the Infinity Stones in 2024. He’s a XXL Freshman, a BET “Best New Artist” nominee, and he’s racked plaques on plaques very early on. He’s accomplished all of this by adopting the off-kilter style of the Florida hip-hop scene with some pretty unique flows. There has been some chatter, however, regarding his approach to each record. There is a saying that goes, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” But hardcore music fans always appreciate when artists take risks and step outside of their comfort zones.

BossMan Dlow is doing that to some extent on his newest release, “The Biggest Pt. 2.” Topically, the Florida rapper isn’t straying away from what he knows. Those focal points include brags, money, women, and violence. However, the changes are coming on the technical side. Dlow is matching the tempo of the beat more on this cut and getting playful at times with his delivery. That’s especially the case on the first verse during the bars that are below. Given the title, “The Biggest Pt. 2” is a sequel track. The first of these songs landed on BossMan’s 2022 debut project, Too Slippery. The “Get In With Me” hitmaker is also apparently in “album mode,” — via his IG Story– so it looks like we got another LP inbound.

Playboi Carti Needs To Choose Between Secrecy & Superstardom Before It’s Too Late

Despite what the rabid, terminally online, and obsessive nature of Playboi Carti fans suggests, he is not music’s only mystery. It’s been four years since his highly influential classic, Whole Lotta Red. In the meantime, the wait for its follow-up has been exhausting, chaotic, often exciting, frequently disappointing, but always fervent. A huge run of non-streaming singles poised 2024 as the Atlanta creative’s year, which itself followed multiple canceled tours, massive festival performances, tease after snippet after announcement after delay, and bare-minimum social media engagement up until some more frequent activity this year. As you can tell, it’s been a vicious cycle that both shrouds Carti in mystery and allows him to benefit from massive industry moves or get a bag whenever he feels like it. To be fair, you can say this about many artists today, so don’t think we’re singling out the Opium boss just to hate.

But his frequent collaborator The Weeknd knew this self-eating snake better than most. Abel Tesfaye’s rise in the early 2010s was wholly mysterious. People didn’t even know his face, while sheer Internet buzz opened the big label rooms and star-studded studio sessions. By 2015, the XO cofounder was a trailblazer capitalizing on his emerging pop appeal through his die-hard following’s ever-rewarded support. Today, he’s arguably the biggest artist in the world. Frank Ocean also knew this cycle, but his approach to his mystique runs opposite to Abel’s. The former Odd Future crooner was at a similar crossroads and instead doubled down on his mystery to make his trajectory all the more legendary… and infamous for its current flatline. Nevertheless, both artists did what Playboi Carti has yet to prove: they made a choice.

Why Is Playboi Carti Moving Like This?

https://twitter.com/Kurrco/status/1858545824906830298

Frank Ocean and The Weeknd chose between secrecy and superstardom, and Playboi Carti still can’t seem to find his perfect balance. Of course, the dry spell of releases since Blonde doesn’t automatically make Frank an underground gem, and Abel certainly keeps his moves under wraps to reserve a bit of his sauce for some likes or brand deals. But the Die Lit rager seems to lose control of his ship every once in a while, whereas his soulful contemporaries position even their most mainstream or frustratingly silent movements as careful, intentional, and well-planned. There are a few different examples of this from 2024. After zero streaming support for fan favorites like “H00DBYAIR” or “Different Day,” “All Red” came out like a damp thud more than a big bang, pretty much sounding like Future as opposed to the icy and smoky IG drops that already captivated the vamps.

Playboi Carti is the premier set of any festival he attends, but when it comes to his Opium tours, their abrupt and unexplained cancelations don’t seem to respect their attendees’ time, financial commitments, or patience. He posts a lot sometimes and is all love with fans, but rarely says much and has a few cases of alleged abhorrent behavior. In the minds of fans, Carti’s probably holed up in a cave somewhere making hard rage with the lights off but he’s actually popping out for Camila Cabello collabs, scamming Adin Ross (no judgment call there), and getting bags for ComplexCon and Camp Flog Gnaw this past weekend. At the end of the day, none of this would be worth mentioning if he addressed it fully or not at all. But this “best of both worlds” approach feels raw, messy, but still visceral at best, and manipulatively fabricated at worst.

Carti Loves Flying Close To The Sun

https://twitter.com/Kurrco/status/1858424618236912096

All this reminds us of Playboi Carti’s closest 2020s collaborator: Kanye West. We all know how hectic and unsatisfying Ye rollouts can be, and he also communicates through more secluded channels while enjoying his exorbitant fame. They share behavioral patterns, like posting DMs with associates and benefitting from “leaks” for more hype. Yet, as the VULTURES series, Donda 2, and the meager “All Red” proves, shadowy anticipation can flop. Glorifying these releases contradicts the counterculture they initially communicated, disappointing mainstream and cult fans for completely different reasons.

Winning that trust back takes time. There was a similarly secretive and electric fable around Whole Lotta Red bolstered by leaks and singles that weren’t the album’s eventual sound. Then it dropped, and many booed. But years passed, and eventually, Playboi Carti fans recognized it as an innovation from the underground to a mainstream stage. Now, “Different Day” is basically a year old, and we’ve heard “EVILJ0RDAN” to death.

It seems like Playboi Carti forces himself to reinvent his sound multiple times with each new album cycle because the preceding build-up is already old news by the time it drops. That’s a really enticing approach artistically, but it leaves a lot of missed opportunities in its wake. Those unfulfilled chances might be horrible music industry logistics and politics, or completely by his design. We hope King Vamp can overcome that in the former’s case. This new era is amazing; don’t get it twisted. But if the latter interpretation is true, and he keeps raising his ceiling higher than he can reach, then he knows his cult status and low efforts will get him paid superstar money either way. Wish we hadn’t solved that mystery…

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre’s “Missionary” Is Already Receiving High Praise Weeks Before Release

“Rap game’s OGs about to remind us what greatness sounds like! 🎤👊🙌” That is one fan’s reaction to some recent teasers of Missionary, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s second album together. It’s the long-awaited follow-up to their first effort Doggystyle. Overall, it’s definitely been a long time coming. But these two legends reuniting for another project this deep into the careers is extremely worth wait. Speaking of which, that’s the current mood surrounding it, with many already anticipating this to be one of the best of the year.

It’s pretty incredible how much positive reception it’s getting, especially since it’s still weeks away from dropping. To remind everyone, Missionary will arrive on streaming on December 13. We can attribute the early buzz to Snoop sharing some sneak peeks of the record on Instagram (via AllHipHop). They come from the duo’s recent appearance on Drink Champs. There are some crazy samples that people are discovering from the clips, but you really can’t expect anything less from Dr. Dre. Some include Sly & the Family Stone’s “Thank You” and The Police’s “Message in a Bottle.”

Wizkid Drops Off A Rhythmic Vibe With “Kese (Dance)”

One of the modern fixtures in African music is back with a new vibe and it’s extremely intoxicating. We are of course talking about Wizkid, who has a new single out this week, “Kese (Dance).” The title is what you will be doing plenty of once you press play on this and it’s more of a loose party anthem compared to its counterpart. That would be “Piece of My Heart” featuring Brent Faiyaz, which is a more multi-faceted listening experience. It’s certainly got some groove to it, but it’s more lowkey and features a break in the action halfway through and becomes an alternative R&B ballad.

Conversely, “Kese (Dance)” is a nonstop Afrobeats bop. On the three minute single, Wizkid is just looking to have a good time and dance the night away. “Blow some trees, make me feel alright / I no fit lie, man, I’m wasted / And I’m feeling reckless,” he effortlessly croons. Both of these are tracks are here for an exciting reason, as Wizkid is getting ready to drop his sixth studio album next Friday, November 22. Morayo, which means “I see joy,” will be his first project since 2022’s More Love, Less Ego. Check out “Kese (Dance)” in the meantime, with the link below.

Lil Nas X Is Moving With A Sense Of Urgency On “Light Again!”

You can nitpick Lil Nas X all you want, but if there’s one thing that you can’t deny is his ability to make infectious hits. The Georgia rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer has shown that time and time again with songs like “INDUSTRY BABY,” “MONTERO,” and of course, “Old Town Road.” Even though it’s been a little bit since we have heard from him, he hasn’t lost his Midas touch. We say that because pretty soon, Lil Nas X should be able to add “LIGHT AGAIN!” to that stacked list of chart-toppers. This is one of his singles that will find a home on his upcoming sophomore album, DREAMBOY. The Georgia native has been teasing this new era for a little bit now and it’s inching closer to becoming reality.

Based on the promotion and some of the things that Nas X has said online, it seems like he just wants to find himself again and release the material he wants to. Sure, the expectations are going to remain fierce, but hearing “LIGHT AGAIN!” he sounds eager, urgent, but also more carefree in some ways. “Back ends, booked up, look up / I’m flyin’, yeah, I’m free now, see now / Society’s tie on me released now / F*** crazy, I’m finna go senile,” he raps. The track has a grand presence to it with thumping drums and the overall swelling build-ups throughout. It’s more of an EDM/pop/dance blend, but the hip-hop elements are still there. Nas X looks to be teasing a more explorative sonic direction with DREAMBOY. as well and we are ready for the ride to come.

Lil Baby Wants To Give His Girl Everything And Then Some On “Insecurities”

Lil Baby is promising his hungry fans a special run going forward, and that includes a new album. The Quality Control signee and Georgia native did so via a fiery Instagram post, writing, “Ain’t It Crazy How They Tryna Play Me Like I Ain’t The One 😤😤!!! It’s That Time! I Would Say Again But This Run Will Be Totally Different!! I Had The Darkest Period Of My Life These Last Two Years But I Stayed Down And Overcame That S*** 🙏🏾 Now I’m Back To Fu*cin S*** Up As Usual…, Sincerely Wham!! WHAM (Who Hard As Me) currently doesn’t have a release date, but Genius is expecting it to be a 2025 project. To formally kick off the rollout, Lil Baby came back today with two singles, “5AM” and “Insecurities.”

In this post, we are focusing on the latter, and this one sees the hitmaker showing his mushier side. He details his strong affection for a woman he’s with. She seems to really be special because Lil Baby’s is willing to shove aside her imperfections. He’s spoiling her with material things, but also with his actions out of the goodness of his heart. Produced by Wheezy, CuBeatz, Klimperboy, KB, Juko, and Macshooter, the track features a nice guitar loop and some pretty piano keys the dance in and out the instrumental. It’s a catchy tune for sure and it’s a solid start for the future album.

Lil Baby Promises Fans A “Totally Different” Big Run Amid New Music Teases

Lil Baby is coming through with a new album and a wild run soon, or at least, that’s what he’s teasing a lot towards. He recently dropped off the new single “5AM” and spent a lot of time as of late hinting at what’s to come, most recently through a new Instagram post this week. “Ain’t It Crazy How They Tryna Play Me Like I Ain’t The One!!!” the Atlanta MC captioned the post. “It’s That Time! I Would Say Again But This Run Will Be Totally Different!! I Had The Darkest Period Of My Life These Last Two Years But I Stayed Down And Overcame That S**t Now I’m Back To F***in S**t Up As Usual… Sincerely Wham!! Who Hard As Me Let’s Gooooooo.”

Furthermore, Lil Baby also enlisted some of his favorite collaborators to make magic together, which is exciting for a few different reasons. First off, he linked up with Future and Travis Scott in the studio, which is always a treat to see. But fans especially generated hype because they also cooked up with none other than Young Thug, who just got out of jail about two weeks ago.

In fact, Young Thug also teased a Lil Baby collab as one of his first post-YSL RICO trial statements, which also caused a stir online. It led to the now-prevalent theory that Thugger and Gunna are at odds, since Wham was one of the rappers who supposedly subliminally dissed Wunna following his plea deal. Thanks to Thug’s recent tweet-and-delete, that seems more likely than ever. So there’s a lot on our plate these days when it comes to anticipated new music, and plenty of people involved in that hype.

Lil Baby is at the forefront these days, previewing new album tracks at recent concerts and collaborating with a lot of stars. Whether or not it’s with Young Thug, Travis Scott, Future, all three, or just by himself, fans are very interested to hear what’s in store. Maybe this is the calm before a stormy comeback or it’s a false forecast. Either way, we won’t know until it lands, so we’re crossing our fingers for some heat.

Brother Ali Previews 2025 Album With Five-Track “Satisfied Soul EP”

Brother Ali has shown time and time again why he’s maintained such a long and prosperous career. The Madison, Wisconsin born rapper, activist, and community leader is getting to prove that pretty soon, specifically on February 14, 2025. That is the release date of Brother Ali’s next endeavor, Satisfied Soul. It’s available for pre-save on Apple Music and it’s going to consist of 17 tracks. Additionally, some other information we have available, courtesy of Stereogum, is that the album will be mostly produced by Ant. if you aren’t familiar with him, he’s known for his time as the other half of Minnesota hip-hop duo, Atmosphere. He works alongside fellow underground MC Slug. They are still going as well and have been since the late 90s.

Ali has always been one to muse and speak honestly about the issues existing in the world. In addition, he also manages to effectively communicate with his audience about emotions and philosophical questions. That’s helped by his voice, which always commands attention thanks how booming it is and how articulate he can be. It makes you want to think and question things he talks about, so the listener is always reaping the benefits when they truly try to understand what he’s conveying. Folks were surely have a lot to take out of these five tracks that are out to promote the album. Something that has our interest, outside of the uplifting and contemplative messages is the production. There’s a diverse set of live instrumentation and it’s put together well. Check out Ali’s new EP with the links below.

Eric Bellinger Is Lovestruck On “Feelings Never Die”

Eric Bellinger is back in his fans’ ears once again and it’s with a new romantic cut, “Feelings Never Die.” The single is here to hold his supporters over until his next album, It’ll All Make Sense Later, which drops November 22. A perfect collection of 15 tracks will make up the tape, and so far, two of them are now out. Prior to “Feelings Never Die,” the Norwalk, California R&B talent put out “Special” alongside Jamaican dancehall singer, Konshens. Based on the neon green, baby blue, dark blue, and purple cover, as well as the sounds on these tracks, it seems Eric’s shooting for more of a mellow and tropical vibe.

Overall, we have to say that we like the direction that this future album is going in. “Feelings Never Die” takes up after its predecessor in some ways with watery keys, rhythmic drums, and airy background vocals. The melodies on this track are also irresistible and it’s easy to sing and groove to. Eric’s vocals are also as smooth and as effortless as ever. He’s struck with a severe love bug on the track, as he can’t push his feelings down for a woman that he’s had on his mind for what sounds like a while. It’s a sweet track and it’s got us pumped for the album.

Mario Promises You’ll Be “Glad You Came” On His Latest Single

One of the biggest voices of the R&B genre of this generation is another weekend closer to making a major return. That act is Maryland singer and songwriter Mario, and he’s going to be dropping his sixth studio album on December 13. Glad You Came is the title and it will be out through New Citizen/Epic Records. 13 songs will make up the tracklist and making this extra exciting is that another icon in the songwriting space is helping him with this comeback release. James Fauntleroy, who has credits for artists such as Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, and JAY-Z, will be that guy. Even though we are only two tracks in, him and Mario’s synergy in the studio is translating well.

The melodies and instrumentals are so buttery smooth and easy to groove too. On top of that, it’s got this nostalgic tinge to it. Overall, you can really hear the passion that him and his right-hand man are pouring into this effort, and we cannot wait for the final product. Before we get out hands on that, Mario is back with a second single, “Glad You Came.” The title track follows the lead-off hitter “Space,” which saw the crooner revisit a past love interest. In a way, this one feels like a pseudo sequel cut due to Mario promising this woman that she’s going to be happy with them rekindling the flame that was put out. On top of the excellent continuation of the story, Mario’s vocals are stunning and effortless again. Check it out below and see if you’re vibing with it as much as we do.
