Rappers Who Have Received Lengthy Prison Sentences

In the world of Hip Hop, it’s a sad truth that many rappers have been in prison. The narratives spun by Hip Hop artists often reflect the gritty realities of life in urban America. Moreover, throughout its history, the genre has served as a platform for artists to amplify their voices and share their experiences. However, amidst the glitz and glamor, there exists a darker underbelly.

Unfortunately, Hip Hop culture has a history of being accused of sometimes promoting crime. Many rappers have had to deal with the harsh realities of the criminal justice system, and spend time in prison. These sentences range from a few months to several decades depending on the gravity of the crime committed. In short, unfortunately, many rappers have been convicted of some serious crimes. Here’s a list of rappers who have received some of the longest sentences in prison.

C-Murder

In the mid-1990s, C-Murder rose to prominence as a member of the supergroup TRU. Despite achieving success, however, his career was overshadowed by legal troubles. The rapper’s involvement in a high-profile murder case ultimately led to the end of his musical career. In 2002, C-Murder was convicted of the second-degree murder of a 16-year-old fan at a nightclub in Louisiana. He was accused of pulling the trigger, leading to his arrest and subsequent trial. Following his trial, the rapper was sentenced to life in prison with no parole.

When YFN Lucci was accused of murder, assault, and racketeering in 2021, fans did not expect the rapper to turn himself in. However, surprising his devoted listeners, Lucci submitted himself to the authorities. Since then, he has been in jail, awaiting trial. After about three years in jail, his trial finally began. Lucci pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. Additionally, the plea deal he took saw prosecutors drop all other charges against him. While YFN Lucci was originally sentenced to 20 years in prison, it was subsequently reduced to 10 years. He has already served three years, and will soon be eligible for parole, according to his legal team.

Max B

Following his original sentence, Max B would have been one of the rappers to spend the longest time in prison. In 2009, he was arrested and charged in connection with a botched robbery that resulted in a homicide. Alongside his two accomplices, Max B was accused of planning and carrying out the robbery that led to the man’s death. Subsequently, he was found guilty of multiple charges and sentenced to 75 years in prison. However, in 2016, his sentence was reduced to 20 years after he pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

The legal battle between rappers Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion ultimately landed Lanez in prison. The case was heavily publicized, and stayed trending for years until Lanez was eventually sentenced in 2023. In August 2020, Megan Thee Stallion accused Tory Lanez of shooting her in the foot. Addressing the accusation through multiple songs, Lanez vehemently denied the shooting. The case dragged on for a while before a verdict was reached. Finally concluding the trial, on August 8, 2023, Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Big Lurch

Of all the rappers on this list, Big Lurch inarguably has the most horrific reason for being in prison. The rapper’s career was marred by a gruesome and tragic incident that led to his incarceration. In 2002, Big Lurch was arrested and charged with the brutal murder of Tynisha Ysais, his roommate. In detail, Ysais was found dead in her apartment with her chest torn open and parts of her lungs missing. Reportedly, Big Lurch was under the influence of PCP at the time of the murder. During the subsequent trial, the rapper’s defense argued that he was not in control of his actions because of the drugs. However, despite these claims, he was ultimately found guilty of murder. Big Lurch was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on November 7, 2003.

Tay-K

In 2016, Tay-K was involved in a home invasion robbery in Mansfield, Texas, during which Ethan Walker, a 21-year-old man, was fatally shot. Subsequently, Tay-K was arrested and charged with capital murder. While awaiting trial for his involvement in the home invasion, he was placed on house arrest. However, the rapper cut off his ankle monitor and fled to San Antonio, Texas. During his time on the run, Tay-K released “The Race.” The song detailed his experiences as a fugitive and quickly went viral. Subsequently, he was apprehended and sentenced to 55 years in prison.

AR-Ab

Philadelphia-based rapper AR-Ab was indicted on federal drug trafficking charges in 2019. Not many rappers have served time in prison for drugs as long as AR-Ab will. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison on April 15, 2021. Following his trial, the rapper was found guilty of multiple charges, including conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, and distribution of cocaine, among others.

Wack 100’s Newest Megan Thee Stallion Video Claims

The reason he states is that it’s recorded by a minor therefore, in his eyes, can’t be ruled admissible as evidence in court. Fans quickly took to the comments to correct him citing numerous other examples of how easy it would be for the video to make it’s way into evidence if it existed.

Wack 100 also took the opportunity in the new video to call out some people online. Mostly he took aim at all of those who are claiming that he’s lying about the existence of a video in the first place. Even years after the incident happened, the hip-hop world is still discussing the shooting incident between Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion. Others just came out with their takes on the case, though they were more often than not deeply uninformed by some of the blogs online spreading misinformation about the evidence.

The most recent is Fivio Foreign, who shared his thoughts on the shooting. “I wasn’t there and I’m no lawyer or scientist, but if someone said they got shot and there’s no hole in their body, they didn’t get shot. We all know that,” the rapper said during a recent interview. That sparked may in the comments to provide personal testimony refuting his claims and citing some of the actual evidence from the trial. Chris Brown Says “Free Tory Lanez” On Adin Ross Stream After Fivio Foreign Got Cooked For It

Tory Lanez is still a hot topic in the hip-hop universe, and his time in prison hasn’t lessened interest or scrutiny in his legal case. If you live under a rock, he is currently behind bars after being convicted of shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Moreover, one of his most staunch supporters is streamer Adin Ross, with whom he shares a personal friendship and with whom he’s streamed with in the past. Ross’ most recent music industry invitee, Chris Brown, chopped it up with him live, and they eventually got around to discussing the social media creator’s tendency of having rappers do freestyles.

Out of these examples, and if you’ve been paying attention, Tory Lanez was among the best of those, and certainly the most popular. “Tory had the cr*ziest one, bro. Cr*zy, bro,” Adin Ross responded to Chris Brown shouting out the Canadian artist’s off-the-dome skills. “He went cr*zy, free my boy, man.” “Free Tory in the f***ing chat, bro. Free Tory. He’s real as f**k,” Ross went on. “He literally called me randomly on my birthday and just said ‘Happy birthday, bro. I couldn’t forget.’ I was like, wow.” “That’s fire, though,” Breezy replied. “But that’s like two percent of artists right now. He a solid dude, I f**k with Tory.”

Chris Brown Praises Tory Lanez With Adin Ross: Watch

Furthermore, this follows another recent rap endorsement of Tory Lanez that backfired, for some people at least. Fivio Foreign proclaimed “Free Tory” as a reaction to Nicki Minaj’s new Megan Thee Stallion diss track, “Big Foot.” Hotties everywhere responded in kind, clowning his support by challenging him to actually prove it with more than just words. What they seem to imply is that the drill artist is just trying to use this as stepping stones, and won’t actually stand on business. Whether that’s actually a valid critique or perspective is up to your opinion.

Meawhile, even though Chris Brown likes Tory Lanez, he doesn’t have the same love for other MCs. Following a Paris Fashion Week interaction, he made it clear that he and Quavo are still at odds with each other. If you want to see a breakdown of their beef, you can find more on that with the link below. Otherwise, stick around on HNHH for more on Adin Ross and the latest updates on these artists.

Tory Lanez Gets Prison Visit From His Son

Tory Lanez is still fighting to reverse his legal case from behind bars, but at least unfruitful and unwarranted endeavors found balance with family. Moreover, TMZ reports that his six-year-old son Kai recently visited him in prison for two weekends straight after not being able to spend the holidays together at all. Their alleged source is Ceasar McDowell, a member of the rapper and singer’s legal team and CEO of Unite The People, who spoke to the publication. For those unaware, Lanez is currently at California Correctional Institution Tehachapi and is about four months into his 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot.

Furthermore, an undisclosed family member took Kai to the facility, and Tory Lanez spoke to his son right upfront, not from behind a glass wall. They reportedly sat at a table for about 4-5 hours on Saturday and Sunday on both weekends and played board games, drew, and got some vending machine snacks. It wasn’t quite the extravagant meal that the Canadian artist got for Christmas, but surely a memorable and enjoyable bite nonetheless, especially with the world’s most important company. Apparently, McDowell relayed that Tory loved seeing his son after no holiday time, despite the fact that they communicate frequently regardless of physical interactions.

In fact, Tory Lanez showed Kai to the world quite often during his court case, as he took him to trial on various occasions throughout 2022. We all know how it turned out, and no matter which side you fall on with that debate, it’s still quite relevant and important to discuss and evaluate. For example, one of the trial’s most prolific journalists, Meghann Cuniff, recently released merch inspired by Tory’s insults towards her. As such, we’ve seen how, as the factual legal case wrapped up, the court of public opinion remains open long after.

Meanwhile, a recently surfaced picture of him in prison shows him in good spirits. We’ll see if there are any more direct or indirect updates on the 31-year-old’s general state and legal status. At least family is never too far away. For more news on Tory Lanez, come back to HNHH.

Tory Lanez’s Insult To A Reporter During The Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Trial Inspired Her To Make Merch

After Tory Lanez was found guilty in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting trial, a legal reporter who covered it, Meghann Cuniff, has an interesting new business venture.

During Lanez’s September bail hearing, he had referred to Cuniff as a “googly-eyed b*tch,” which she is now using to her benefit and getting the last laugh: Cuniff announced that she’ll start accepting pre-orders for “Meghann Thee Reporter” and “Googly Eyed B*tch” merch later this week.

The logos were designed by Bryson “Boom” Paul, whom Cuniff had asked to design. Right now, there are three. One has an image of a courthouse, surrounded by the words “Legal affairs & trials / Meghann Cuniff.” The other two have a graphic of the outline of Cuniff’s face and glasses — with the googly-eyed one including her eyes in her glasses.

“I am very excited to unveil everything for you all!” Cuniff posted.

“Thank you to @meghanncuniff for reaching out and trusting me to create her logos as she ascends to a new level of notoriety in the media landscape,” Paul added in a separate post. “Congrats on the breakout 2023 and may the success continue in 2024. #meghanntheereporter.”

The items are currently available on Cuniff’s website, with options to purchase the logos on mugs, shirts, hoodies, and stickers.

Megan Thee Stallion is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Meghann Cuniff Drops Merch Inspired By Tory Lanez’s Insult To Her

It’s odd to say that a reporter had a “breakout year” much like a rapper would, but Meghann Cuniff defies all odds. Moreover, the reporter gained a lot of notoriety over the past two years thanks to her hard-working diligence and dedication while covering the Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez shooting case. In fact, she provoked the latter’s ire so much that he called her a “googly-eyed b***h,” a title that she’s happy to embrace as part of her brand. Another common title of the journalist’s is “Meghann Thee Reporter,” and we just got good news about how we can rep this moment in our everyday lives.

Furthermore, Meghann Cuniff just launched a new merch series with three logos referencing these names and her job. Bryson “Boom” Paul designed the logos, a fellow journalist who has also worked tirelessly to fairly, accurately, and clearly report on some of hip-hop’s biggest crime stories. The new pieces– comprised of either mugs, hoodies, shirts, and stickers with one of these logos– are available on the Southern California-based media figure’s website. Both reporters thanked each other for their help and for their work on social media, which is a heartening thing to see between two 9-to-5ers (and probably a whole lot more) in the media.

Meghann Cuniff Launches Merch Line

“Thank you to @meghanncuniff for reaching out and trusting me to create her logos as she ascends to a new level of notoriety in the media landscape,” Paul expressed on Twitter. “Congrats on the breakout 2023 and may the success continue in 2024. #meghanntheereporter.” “Thank you so much, Bryson!” Meghan Cuniff replied. “I am very excited to unveil everything for you all! I’ll start accepting pre-orders later this week for some MTR and GEB swag.”

Meanwhile, as for the Tory and Megan case, not much has happened as of late in the strictly legal sense of it all. Sure, some more gossip emerged surrounding her former bodyguard, but that’s mostly for the online narratives and rumor mills. Hopefully the words of “Boom” ring true and Cuniff continues to find great success in 2024. For more on Meghann Cuniff, Tory Lanez, and Megan Thee Stallion, come back to HNHH.

Katt Williams Thinks Either Megan Thee Stallion Or Tory Lanez Aren’t Being Truthful

Katt Williams has become the latest pop culture figure to throw their hat into the Tory Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion ring. Moreover, he recently sat down for an interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay, on which they discussed a wide range of controversial topics including Kanye West’s well-being. Given that the sports commentator found out the comedian has a take on everything, he couldn’t help but ask about this shooting case between the two rappers. After all, it’s easily one of the biggest crime stories not just within hip-hop, but across pop culture in the last few years. He didn’t pick a side here, though, instead focusing on the blame game at play and about how there’s some inherent lying here.

“It’s a difficult position,” Katt Williams began. “Because somebody’s not gonna tell the truth, and the truth has got to be told. In all circumstances, the truth has got to be told. So if you don’t wanna say she shot her, then you shot her. And that’s the end of that.” It’s unclear if he just used a pronoun wrong here or if he referred to Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former best friend. Either way, the Cincinnati, Ohio native simply took another drink from his glass and ended discussion there, not having much else to add.

Katt Williams Speaks On Tory Lanez & Megan Thee Stallion: Watch

Elsewhere during this talk, Katt Williams also made fun of Chris Tucker’s friendship with Michale Jackson and his alleged connection to Jeffrey Epstein. “[Chris Tucker] don’t smoke weed like that,” he remarked. “He’s in the church. He was Michael Jackson’s best friend. Michael Jackson called him ‘Christmas.’ You ever met a man that gave you a little nickname like that?” Still, the 52-year-old called Tucker one of the “great people” in comedy, but lamented that “the Chris Tucker we got now is the Epstein Island Chris Tucker.”

Meanwhile, he also took shots at Diddy and a whole lot more during this conversation. People are already throwing in their reactions to all this as the Megan and Tory case continues to develop and evolve. While it mostly ended, clearly a lot of fallout slipped out to talk through. With that in mind, log back into HNHH for the latest news and updates on Katt Williams, Tory Lanez, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Top 23 of 2023: Meg Vs. Tory Trial Takes Over Headlines

Megan The Stallion, Tory Lanez

Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez‘s trial has secured a position at No. 2  on SOHH’s Top 23 of 2023 list. The trial involving the two chart-topping rappers was among the most talked-about ever.

2. Meg Vs. Tory

Tory Gets 10-Year Sentence

On September 14, 2023, the appeal of singer Tory Lanez was denied, and he was officially sentenced to 10 years in prison on August 8, 2023, in connection with the July 2020 shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion.

The Canadian artist is now serving his sentence at the North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, where he is expected to spend three to six months before moving to a permanent facility for the remainder of his sentence.

Before his 10-year sentencing, the “Hurt Me” artist allegedly turned down a possible shorter sentencing before being sentenced to a decade in prison. Lanez allegedly rejected a 4-year plea deal and instead proceeded with the trial.

Who Did It Then?

According to recent revelations, Tory Lanez’s bodyguard, Jaquan Smith, alleged that Megan’s ex-best friend, Kelsey Harris, was in possession of the gun during the shooting incident. Despite Lanez being found guilty of shooting Megan, Smith claimed to have witnessed Harris holding the weapon, leading to Lanez’s attempt to disarm her.

Following Smith’s claims, Megan responded and “firmly denied” Kelsey’s involvement in the shooting and continued to state that Lanez was the culprit in the shooting.

5. Queen Bey’s ‘Renaissance’ Era

In a year filled with unforgettable moments, Beyoncé claimed her rightful place in the top 5 as she dominated 2023 with her “Renaissance” era, showcasing her artistic brilliance and cultural impact throughout the year.
