DJ Khaled Recalls Nearly Losing His Mansion Amid Financial Woes

DJ Khaled says he nearly lost his mansion in Miami in the mid-2010s while investing too much capital into his We The Best company. In doing so, he found himself struggling to make rent payments on the property. He recalled the tough period during a new interview with Rolling Stone.

“I remember I had like a month to come up with this [large] amount of money. I kept saying, ‘There’s no way in the world that we worked this much this far and we don’t have nothing to show for it.’ I changed that right away,” he recalled. “I was like, ‘Yo, if I want a family, I got to get my shit right.’ And I gambled on myself. I always bet on myself from day one. But I tripled down that day.”

Elsewhere in his conversation with the outlet, he discussed his upcoming album, Til Next Time. He says that the name is in reference to a transition he’ll be making into TV and film. “I’m treating it like it’s my last album. But it’s not a goodbye,” he said. “You’re going to start seeing and hearing about all these new things that I’m doing. I’m going to be doing more TV and film. We taking over the TV and film. That’s what Til Next Time is — it’s like, I’m going to give you an incredible album, but also while I’m giving you that incredible album, you’re going to see all these big new moves that I’m doing and new categories that we going to take over.”

In that vein, Khaled is currently producing a documentary on Shyne’s life. The rapper-turned-politican previously revealed that he’s heard Khaled’s Til Next Time and described it as a “masterpiece” on Instagram. Be on the lookout for further updates on Khaled’s new album on HotNewHipHop.

Will Drake Be On DJ Khaled’s New Album ‘Til Next Time?’

The hip-hop side of the music industry is about to get very busy soon. A slew of rap’s biggest names, from Drake to DJ Khaled to Nicki Minaj, are plotting to release new albums in the fourth quarter of 2023 (or early in 2024) and many of them have been so productive that they’re all featured on each others’ upcoming projects.

Nicki Minaj confirmed that she’s appearing on Drake’s For All The Dogs while expressing her hope that he’ll do the same for her Pink Friday 2. Meanwhile, DJ Khaled, whose albums are always star-studded events, recently revealed that his new album, Til Next Time, is going to have not just one, but two appearances from The Boy.

As you can see from the video clip above, DJ Khaled seems pretty excited about having two Drake features on his next album. He even holds up a sign announcing the features as he accompanies Drake through the tunnel of an arena.

It’s sweet that Khaled still gets so excited about working with Drake, especially after the duo has racked up such an impressive collection of collaborations over the past decade-plus. While “I’m On One” marks the beginning of their musical relationship, more recently, they’ve teamed up on “Staying Alive,” “Popstar,” and “To The Max,” while they’ve made a habit of semi-trolling each other on social media.

Last November, Drake gave DJ Khaled four luxury toilets for his birthday, while this June, Khaled’s hype video for Drake’s poetry book turned into an inadvertent burn when he noted it was “a sentence.”

DJ Khaled wants y’all to know: THE DRAKE VOCALS ARE IN. With a new album loading, Khaled revealed Drake has two features on Til Next Time.

“Ayo Drake fan hub, you know I got two Drakes in the can,” Khaled said. “Mixed. Mastered. You know I got two Drakes, two Champagne Papi’s on my album. You know that right? The album’s Til Next Time.”

With the kind of blockbuster announcement only he can deliver, DJ Khaled is set to return with his anxiously awaited 14th full-length LP, TIL NEXT TIME, marking the most anticipated hip-hop event of 2023. This release is the first offering from his newly minted partnership, We The Best Music Group/Def Jam Recordings.

The album’s massive first single, “SUPPOSED TO BE LOVED,” has already taken the music scene by storm, featuring a powerhouse collaboration with superstar artists Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert. The track is now streaming across all platforms.

Khaled’s announcement sent shockwaves through the internet, accompanied by a powerhouse trailer starring not only the artist himself but also his sons, Asahd and Aalam Tuck Khaled, as well as his Queen Nicole Tuck Khaled. DJ Khaled Confirms Drake Will Make 2 Appearances On His Upcoming Album

DJ Khaled says that he’s secured two Drake features for his next studio album. He revealed what he’s got in store during a recent live stream on Instagram. The news comes following the release of the project’s first single, “Supposed To Be Loved,” featuring Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert.

Til Next Time will be Khaled’s first studio album since his partnership with Def Jam. Under the deal, Khaled serves as the global creative consultant to both Def Jam and UMG. “This new chapter marks a special time for me,” Khaled said of the move in February. “The energy at this point in my career is at an all-time high, and I’m grateful to Sir Lucian Grainge for allowing me to join his empire at this stage in my journey. Together, we will achieve even greater heights and take it to the next level. I feel blessed and so inspired with renewed energy. Khaled has yet to provide further details on Til Next Time, but described it as coming soon during an announcement, last week. It will be his first studio album since 2021’s God Did. That project helped notch Khaled five nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, including for Best Rap Album, Song of the Year, and Best Rap Song. DJ Khaled can’t stop working. Yesterday (August 10), the prolific DJ and producer announced his 14th album, Til Next Time, which will arrive as part of a new partnership between Khaled’s We The Best Music and Def Jam Recordings. Tonight, Khaled has shared the first single from the album, “Supposed To Be Loved.”

On “Supposed To Be Loved,” Khaled is joined by melodic rappers Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert, who lean into their vocal stylings as they seek to spoil their ladies.

“I’m tryna love you like you ‘posed to be loved / She know I’m a thug, she don’t treat me like no rapper / See you comin’ up, I can make that shit faster,” sing Future and Lil Baby on the song’s catchy earworm of a chorus.

Over the years, Khaled has proven that he’s pretty much guaranteed to drop a contender for the song of summer. Though “Supposed To Be Loved” arrives rather late in the summer, Khaled holds up his track record.

There is no way you can still watch DJ Khaled’s over-the-top social media videos and come away thinking he isn’t in on the joke. If you do, then the trailer for his next album, Til Next Time will hopefully finally relieve you of that mistaken notion. As ridiculous as his social media videos can get, he goes even bigger here, tapping his current obsession with golf and combining it with his usual motivational volubility.

He not only chips in an exceptional shot from fairway, but then he also smacks a drive completely off the course and around the globe, proving he’s got a sense of humor about all this. He’s joined on the links by his two sons, who look to have a firm handle on the basics. The trailer clocks in at around four minutes, reflecting his maximalist production tendencies, while the beat playing in the background promises an epic, cinematic bent to his next project.

According to a press release, the Til Next Time is Khaled’s first album under his joint venture with Def Jam, and its first single, “Supposed To Be Loved” featuring Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert, is dropping this Friday, August 11.
