The Weeknd Announces Release Date For New Single “Dancing In The Flames”

The Weeknd loves to be cryptic. It’s been a foundational element of his persona since he broke out in 2011. The pop star has kept it going strong with the rollout for his upcoming album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. There’s been teaser videos, cryptic messages, and now we finally have a proper single. Well, at least, a release date for a proper single. The Weeknd took to social media on September 9 to unveil the title and release date for his lead single, “Dancing In the Flames.” And it’s sooner than you’d think.

The Weeknd broke the news to excited fans via Instagam. He posted the artwork for “Dancing In the Flames,” which is, of course, very dramatic. The teasers for Hurry Up Tomorrow suggest a lot of deep reflection and emotional examination. Liberation, and perhaps even growth, seem to be themes hinted at in the promo rollout. “Dancing In the Flames” is no different. The Weeknd is posited in the lower left hand corner, adorned in sunglasses. Meanwhile, a bright orange, sun-like object is in the top right, shining on him. The release date? Friday, September 13. That’s right, fans will get to hear the first phase of the new Weeknd era in less than a week.

The Weeknd’s Comeback Single Is Out This Friday

The Weeknd is known for having a tight grip on his rollouts. Unfortunately, Hurry Up Tomorrow has not gone according to plan, so far. The album was reportedly leaked online on Sunday, September 8. It was widely theorized that the leak came as a result of pre-order vinyls being shipped. Not only were songs leaked online, but the entire tracklist was as well. Assuming the leaks are accurate, Hurry Up Tomorrow will include a lone guest appearances from Coldplay.

The single that has since been announced, however, “Dancing In the Flames,” was not on leaked vinyl tracklist. This could be mean numerous things. For one, the vinyl leaks that made their way online could be fake. It wouldn’t be the first time a high profile release fell victim to clout-chasers online. It could also mean The Weeknd made tweaks to the tracklist if the leak was indeed legitimate. Big Sean had to deal with a similar situation when his album Better Me Than You leaked online weeks before its release. We hope The Weeknd manages to sell better, though.

The Weeknd Unveiled His ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Album’s Hauntingly Vulnerable Cover Art

The question surrounding whether The Weeknd would release a new album has been answered. After weeks of cryptic posts and videos online, the “Blinding Lights” singer confirmed that a new project was in the works.

Last week, he released the forthcoming body of work’s title, Hurry Tomorrow. Today (September 7), The Weeknd unveiled Hurry Tomorrow‘s official album cover.

Hurry Tomorrow follows in line with The Weeknd’s past portrait style cover art (2015’s Beauty Behind The Madness, 2016’s Starboy, 2020’s After Hours, and 2022’s Dawn FM). The hauntingly vulnerable graphic features The Weeknd makes piercing eye contact with the lens. Without the designer buds or special effects makeup, viewers are drawn into The Weeknd’s emotional facial expression and glossed over eyes.

Users online seemed to enjoy the image’s rawness.

“I like. It’s very Weeknd,” wrote one user.

“Exciting times ahead! The Weeknd’s album cover always sets the tone for the music. Can’t wait to see what “Hurry Up Tomorrow” brings,” chimed one user.

Others found themselves aroused by the cover art.

“Is this a safe place,” asked one user.

“He is so fine,” added another.

The release date for Hurry Up Tomorrow hasn’t been shared yet. However, The Weeknd did post the pre-save link. Find more information here.

The Weeknd Unveils Album Cover For “Hurry Up Tomorrow”

We are almost at the finish line, and as bittersweet as it is, it looks like The Weeknd will close out his trilogy – and moniker – with a bang. Moreover, he just unveiled the official album cover art for his new upcoming LP, Hurry Up Tomorrow. Much like its predecessors, After Hours and Dawn FM, it’s an image of the Canadian superstar’s face, but this one is much more “normal” and rudimentary compared to the blood-soaked and aged portraits of the aforementioned projects, respectively. As such, fans couldn’t be more excited to hear how these themes will wrap up with this third and final piece of the puzzle.

Furthermore, this adds to other Hurry Up Tomorrow details that The Weeknd shared with Billboard Brazil in their interview before his shows in the country this weekend. One of them is that he actually composed the “central song” of this new record in São Paulo. Abel Tesfaye also called something “Frankenstein,” and it’s a bit unclear if this is a nickname for the album as a whole or for this “central song” that the article mentions. Either way, this nickname indicates a fusion of a lot of different genres and sonic styles that still maintains a core and unmistakeable identity at its root.

The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow Cover Art

In addition, even though The Weeknd’s website doesn’t indicate a release date for this new album, we do have some hints as to when Hurry Up Tomorrow will come out. Well, we have one hint, to be honest. This is because of the physical pre-orders that he put up for this new LP, in addition to a pre-save option for digital streaming platforms. In the pre-order item description, it doesn’t indicate any release date. However, it does say that the physical copies will ship near the release date, which will apparently be no later than six months from today (Saturday, September 7). Hopefully he doesn’t take cues from his potential future collaborator Playboi Carti and actually drops the album.

Jokes aside, this rollout and piece-by-piece hype construction is very different to the Atlanta MC’s situation. Either way, we can’t wait to see what The Weeknd brings us next, especially with this artwork in mind. Will we get a more raw, simple, vulnerable, and definitive album building off of his mysterious, emotional, and trippy journey so far? Or can we not even fathom what’s in store right now? We can’t even tell which is the more exciting option.

The Weeknd Reveals Exciting Details About His Upcoming Album “Hurry Up Tomorrow”

A new interview with Billboard Brazil has shed light on The Weeknd’s upcoming show in São Paulo, his love of his Brazilian fanbase, mental health, and much more. But one of the most exciting parts of the conversation was the details that he spread around the piece about his next album, Hurry Up Tomorrow. This will not only close out Abel’s 2020s trilogy as the follow-up to After Hours and Dawn FM, but it will also apparently retire The Weeknd moniker as a creative project with one last hurrah. With all this excitement around this next full-length in mind, it’s no wonder that every little breadcrumb is leaving fans starving for more.

Furthermore, the first big detail to note is that The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow has a “central song,” according to Billboard. He apparently nicknamed it “Frankenstein” for how its sonic fusions didn’t take away from the essence of the record (although that might refer to HUT as a whole). The Canadian superstar reportedly composed it during his last São Paulo concert visit last October. Since then, he’s not only dropped a few collaborations, but his teases towards another Playboi Carti link-up and more have really energized fans’ excitement.

However, the most important revelation about Hurry Up Tomorrow was about the mind-state that The Weeknd created it in. “There is always pressure to surpass my last project,” he expressed. “Growth is important. Sometimes it may not be what people want to hear from me at the moment, but, when the body of work is complete, I hope they can appreciate what I have been trying to achieve. I have been working on this discography for a long time. It was all planned.”

Meanwhile, The Weeknd also spoke on his remarks about facing “the abyss” shortly after announcing this year’s Brazil visit. “It can mean many things,” he shared. “For me, it is something very specific,” he says in the interview, in a mysterious mood. “I faced it long enough. Most of the time, I overcame it. But I work on it every day. I hope that [my music] helps others face and overcome the abyss, too.” From what this all indicates, Hurry Up Tomorrow will be a deeply cathartic, vividly creative, and bittersweet experience. We’ll take ten copies, please.

The Weeknd Finally Reveals The Title Of His Upcoming Album With An Eerie New Video

The Weeknd has been teasing a new album for months now, and he just dropped the biggest breadcrumb yet.

A video The Weeknd shared today (September 4) features scrolling text set to eerie music. The text reads:

“Yesterday was fourteen years ago…

We held our breath, falling into a shimmering sea in the after hours of the night…

Attempted to cleanse the wounds with melodies and lights, a bulletproof bandage to shield what lies beneath.

In a place where the seasons never changed, where time ceased to exist. But therein lays the problem.

Today has felt like an endless spin. I keep distorting the truth, immune to the dizziness, numb to the nausea. What lies beneath — screams in silence.

I look in the mirror and feel both old and new, stuck in limbo and unable to move. I still haven’t faced myself.

More songs could help, but what do I have left to say? Woe is me in my gilded cage, right?

The very thing that once made me invincible failed me on the world stage. A new trauma surfaced, opening floodgates.

A new path awaits.

When today ends, I’ll discover who I am.

Hurry Up Tomorrow.”

That last bit was written in gigantic letters, and since the post is captioned “ALBUM TITLE,” the name is the album appears to be Hurry Up Tomorrow.

A press release confirms that, also noting that the album “represents the creative apex of the [trilogy] project, serving as the third and final chapter crafted with existential and self-referential themes as seen with the latest visionary teasers that have set fans ablaze with anticipation for this concluding installment.”

Now, we wait for news of a release date or a new single.

Playboi Carti & The Weeknd’s FaceTime Sparks Excitement Amongst Fans

Overall, Playboi Carti and The Weeknd do not share a lot in common, at least musically speaking. However, they put a lot of people on to what they can do a track together last summer. The two respective superstars, and pop legend Madonna, all united for “Popular”. The 80s synth-pop/pop rap track was one of the first soundtrack cuts for Abel Tesfaye’s HBO exclusive TV show, The Idol. Sadly, the program turned out to be a major flop, but the single did not. For how cooky the track came across at its inception, it did a respectable job on the charts, peaking and debuting at 43 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In this case, it was more of a grower, as it is now certified platinum as of June 20, 2024. Furthermore, it also made its way onto the deluxe version of The Weeknd’s The Highlights compilation record. Finally, “Popular” sits at nearly 900 million streams, good enough for the fifth spot on his most popular on Spotify. Since the release of this single, it seems that The Weeknd and Playboi Carti are pretty good buddies. For example, the label head iced out the Dawn FM creator with some custom XO/Opium iced out jewelry.

Do You Need Another Collab Between Playboi Carti & The Weeknd?

Now, it seems that they are furthering that friendship after a recent FaceTime according to Kurrco. In a frankly odd but funny screenshot, Abel is holding a lit lighter with smiles for miles. Then, there’s Carti who is looking more and more like Kanye West by the second. In fact, some fans were quick to point that out. “You mean Kanye and weekend?”, one X user hilariously questions. However, this repost also led some fans to hope for more music from this new tandem in the future. “NEED A COLLAB”, another excitedly types. “Carti and weeknd the duo we never thought we needed”. Hopefully, that does turn out to be the case. Both artists have records in the works so maybe we will see them together a track when those eventually drop.

What are your thoughts on Playboi Carti and The Weeknd talking to each other on FaceTime? Do you think a new collaboration is coming soon? Is “Popular” still in your rotation? Who do you think will drop their new album first? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Playboi Carti and The Weeknd. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Drake Unveils Even More Archival ‘100 Gigs’ Content, Featuring Kanye West, The Weeknd, And Plenty More

Drake came through with a surprise earlier this month when he unveiled 100gigs.org, a website that hosted a bunch of previously unreleased material from the rapper. It turns out that wasn’t a one-and-done thing, as Drake has just added a second wave of content to the site.

As Billboard notes, the site was updated on August 25. Among the new content is some Kanye West-related clips from OVO Fest in 2013. In one video, Drake says, “I’m the biggest Ye fan, period. Sometimes I feel like I can’t like it because I gotta go against it. But that sh*t tonight was almost therapeutic.”

Kanye also says in a clip, “Me and Hov wouldn’t have made Watch The Throne if this n**** wasn’t putting pressure on us like that. So I just want to pay my respect.”

There’s also a 2014 video of Drake talking with YG and Mustard, with Drake saying over the phone, “I’m ’bout to send you a verse I did on this beat that Mustard sent me for you. […] I’m just about to record the sh*t and I’ma send it to you. Just get Future to email it and I’ll send you the verse in 30 minutes. […] I’ma send you the sh*t and let’s turn up the summer, I’m ready.”

Times have certainly changed, as Mustard now has no interest in working with “strange guy” Drake.
