Teyana Taylor, AKA ‘Firefly,’ Wins Season 7 Of ‘The Masked Singer’

The Masked Singer, by design, is full of surprises, and naturally, that was true of yesterday’s season finale, too. The episode was a hot contest between the Prince, Firefly, and Ringmaster characters, with Firefly ultimately emerging as the victor. Sure enough, when Firefly was unmasked, it turned out to be Teyana Taylor.

In the finale’s opening round, Taylor covered Usher’s “Bad Girl” before singing Robin Thicke’s “Lost Without You” in the final round, a performance that led to her being crowned the champion.

Taylor didn’t just steamroll over a couple non-singers to claim the title, either. The runner-up was Hayley Orrantia (as Ringmaster), who’s best known for her role as Erica Goldberg on The Goldbergs, but was also a contestant on the first season of The X Factor and released her debut EP, The Way Out, in 2019. Third was Cheyenne Jackson (as Prince), an actor (you may know him from 30 Rock, Glee, or American Horror Story) and Broadway veteran who has multiple albums, including some Broadway cast recordings, to his name.

As for Taylor’s resume, she’s super accomplished. Her third and latest album, 2020’s The Album, was her first to crack that top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at No. 8. Her 2018 single “Gonna Love Me” was also a success, peaking at No. 10 on the Hot 100 and earning Platinum certification from the RIAA.

Check out Taylor’s performances from the season finale below. She also gave an interview following the big reveal, so find that below, too.

Teyana Taylor’s ‘Last Rose Petal 2’ Farewell Tour Gives Fans Another Chance To Say Their Goodbyes

At the end of 2020, Teyana Taylor announced her retirement from the music industry after airing out her frustrations with her label Def Jam. The announcement came after she released her third album The Album which stood as one of the better R&B projects in 2020. Some wondered if they would receive a chance to say goodbye to the beloved singer, and Teyana gave them that with The Last Rose Petal tour last fall. That tour came to a close at the end of November 2021 which insinuated that Teyana’s retirement would begin, but as we now know, that is not the case.

On Tuesday, Teyana announced that she will once again hit the road thanks to The Last Rose Petal 2 tour. In a post about the new tour, Teyana explained her decision to head out on the road again. “TLRP2 is for all the cities that I did not get to hit during part 1,” she wrote. “However If you see a city on part 2 that I already did in part 1 those cites are getting encores because the venues was not big enough to hold the amount of people that showed up.”

The Last Rose Part 2 tour will begin June 19 in Washington DC with the Something In The Water Festival. Almost two months later, things will resume with a show in Los Angeles and The Last Rose Part 2 tour will continue for a little over a month before coming to an end on September 8 in Paris.

You can check out the full list of dates in the post above. Tickets will go on sale this Friday 5/6 and they can be purchased here.

Kanye West And Teyana Taylor Rework A ‘K.T.S.E.’ Cut In A ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Outtake

In director Coodie’s comprehensive Kanye West-centered documentary, Jeen-Yuhs, viewers get an intimate look at Ye’s creative process. Through over 20 years of footage, fans see the work that went into his iconic albums, including The College Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation. In the Netflix documentary’s third and final part, titled “Act III: Awakening,” we see parts of the Wyoming sessions, which took place between 2017 and 2018, which resulted in the albums Ye, the Kid Cudi-collaborative Kids See Ghosts, and Teyana Taylor’s K.T.S.E.

In an outtake shared by Time, Ye and Taylor work on a song called “Cold Blooded,” which ultimately didn’t make the final tracklist of K.T.S.E. Unsatisfied with the sound of the song, Ye strips “Cold Blooded” of its original beat, then creates a new instrumental track in real-time.

Before making a name for himself as a rapper, Ye climbed the industry ladder producing tracks for Jay-Z, Ludacris, and Alicia Keys. In recent years, he’s worked behind the boards for artists like Christina Aguilera, Lil Nas X, and Pusha T.

With Jeen-Yuhs, we get a look at how some of Ye’s biggest songs and albums, both of his own and ones he produced for other artists, came to be.

Check out the outtake above.

it is unmistakeable that the Jeen-Yuhs documentary on Netflix that chronicles the life and times of Kanye West by friend and filmmaker Coodie over the past two decades is one of the most important pieces of visual Hip Hop history available to the public today.

Adding to the five hours of never seen before footage of Ye is the Time Magazine-exclusively released footage of West and G.O.O.D. Music signee Teyana Taylor in the studio in 2017 during Ye’s infamous Wyoming sessions. The two are shown working on an unreleased song titled “Cold Blooded” that didn’t make the final cut for Taylor’s K.T.S.E. album.

Taylor’s K.T.S.E. was recorded in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and was the ast of five albums completed there, including Pusha T’s Daytona, Kanye’s YeKids See Ghosts with Kid Cudi and Nas’ Nasir.
