SZA Promises To Release “More” Music Before The End Of 2024

SZA had a rollercoaster of a Friday. She delayed the release of LANA (SOS Deluxe) at the last possible minute. She dropped the album roughly 12 hours later than expected, but it was worth the wait. The new deluxe edition came with an entire album’s worth of material, including a Kendrick Lamar feature. It was enough to satiate any hardcore SZA fan. The most exciting part of the singer’s rollout, though, is that she isn’t done. She got on Twitter the evening she dropped and claimed that she has more music on deck for 2024.

It may be surprising, the idea of new music after it took SZA two years to drop LANA (SOS Deluxe), but that is what the singer is promising. She told fans that “new treats” were on the way, and added that TDE label boss Punch has given her the green light. “Punch gave the go ahead to purge and drop all songs,” SZA wrote in a separate tweet. “More things are on the way.” You wouldn’t be judged for thinking SZA is merely hyping up new material, and won’t actually drop before the end of the year. We’ve seen it before, and in the case of Playboi Carti, we’re still seeing it. But SZA provided even more info on songs to come.

SZA Will Drop Again On Christmas Or New Year’s Eve

SZA posted a screenshot of a text conversation between her and Punch. “King being kind n finna let me purge it all,” she tweeted. “Yes I’m secretly begging for more than this lmao everybody say thank you.” It certainly does seem like the singer is pushing for more songs to see the light of day. The screenshot has SZA referencing specific songs by name. She asks Punch if she can drop songs called “PSA,” “Take You Down” and “Open Arms.” The TDE boss responded by issuing a slight delay. He told the singer to wait a week or so before dropping again.

“I think we should def let this breath for a week at least,” Punch asserted. “Give it to them for New Year’s or Christmas.” Punch has been pretty communicative with both SZA and the fans during the LANA (SOS Deluxe) rollout. He claimed it was his fault the album was delayed by half a day. He did, however, make a joke about SZA after she posted the text screenshot. Punch quote tweeted the singer and wrote: “Aiight. Somebody get her phone.”

For youth, brands like Converse and True Religion donated gifts, while the Los Angeles Rams hosted a co-ed football clinic. Adults benefited from a job fair in partnership with HACLA and local organizations, creating pathways for reentry and employment.

Kendrick Lamar & SZA Highlight Yet Another Successful TDE Holiday Concert & Toy Drive

Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) took over Nickerson Gardens in Watts for their 11th annual holiday concert and toy drive on Thursday, December 12. And this year was bigger than ever. Celebrating 20 years in the game, the label that gave us Kendrick Lamar, SZA, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and more, brought holiday vibes and hip-hop greatness to the heart of Los Angeles. Day one of the two-day event was all about the music. Fans rolled in deep, packing the Nickerson Gardens Public Housing Projects to catch live performances from TDE’s stacked roster. HotNewHipHop was in attendance to capture all the action of the highly-anticipated concert.

The TDE label, founded by Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, who grew up in Nickerson Gardens alongside Jay Rock, has always been about more than music. Furthermore, this tradition has become a cornerstone for TDE, showing their dedication to uplifting the community they came from. Although the event faced a slight delay in starting due to crowd control challenges, the energy among attendees remained high. Fans were still eager and appreciative of the opportunity to witness such an extraordinary lineup of performances right in their own neighborhood. As local West Coast artists took the stage to warm up the crowd with energetic sets, more attendees continued to stream in, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The night began with a smooth and soulful vibe, thanks to TDE’s R&B gem, SiR. He took the stage to perform fan favorites like “John Redcorn” and “Hair Down,” captivating the crowd with his silky vocals and undeniable charisma. SiR’s set was the perfect warm-up, giving fans a moment to sway and sing before the energy turned all the way up.

Isaiah Rashad Had The Bass Blasting

Isaiah Rashad delivered a bass-heavy set that pulsed through the crowd, making the energy quite literally almost tangible. Opening up with one of his hit songs “Wats Wrong,” the Chattanooga rapper gave fans a set filled with his signature smooth flow and reflective lyrics. He also performed his collab song with SiR, “Karma,” while the two were on stage together. Isaiah’s ability to command the stage while staying true to his introspective style showcased why he remains a fan favorite within the TDE roster.

SZA Steals The Spotlight

When SZA stepped on stage, the crowd erupted in cheers. As one of the label’s biggest stars, her presence alone was enough to send fans into a frenzy. She came out in a furry pink coat and delivered an unforgettable set. She performed hits from her critically acclaimed album SOS, including “Snooze,” and “Kill Bill.” Her voice floated effortlessly over the night’s cloudy sky, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere as the audience sang every lyric back to her. SZA’s ability to connect with her fans was undeniable, and her performance was one of the night’s standout moments.

However, the ultimate moment of the night came when Kendrick Lamar hit the stage. “Are you ready to see Kendrick Lamar?” SZA asked the crowd before introducing him on stage. True to her word, there was no drawn-out wait—he appeared moments later, delivering on the excitement she had built up.

Kendrick Lamar Performs “Humble”

The moment everyone had waited for arrived when Kendrick Lamar took the stage. The Compton legend, known for his rare public appearances, delivered a performance that had the entire crowd locked in. With the buzz surrounding his recently released and well-received album GNX, along with the announcement of his upcoming tour, anticipation was high as fans eagerly waited to see which tracks he’d bring to the stage. His set included fan favorites like “HUMBLE.” and “squabble up,” two high-energy tracks that the audience rapped along to word for word. In a powerful display of community and connection, Kendrick invited local kids to join him on stage during “squabble up.” The sight of children standing beside one of hip-hop’s greatest icons was a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the event: unity, celebration, and giving back.

TDE’s Ab-Soul joined Kendrick on stage for “Squabble Up,” sparking excitement among fans who began speculating about a potential Black Hippy reunion—a group that also includes Jay Rock and ScHoolboy Q. The collaboration brought an added layer of nostalgia and significance to the track, which pays homage to West Coast culture and Los Angeles in particular. From its distinctive slang and dance moves to the visuals in the “squabble up” music video, the song stands out as a celebration of L.A.’s vibrant identity.

Surprise Appearance From GloRilla

Just when fans thought the night couldn’t get any better, GloRilla came out as a surprise performer. She performed her hit “TGIF” to roaring applause. She also debuted a new orange, tiger-striped hairstyle. Her presence added a fresh and unexpected twist to the night, proving TDE’s ability to deliver unforgettable surprises.

Doechii Closes Out The Night With “Nissan Altima”

After an incredible series of performances, TDE’s own Doechii brought the evening to a triumphant close. She, of course, performed one of her crowd pleasers, “Nissan Altima.” Her high-energy delivery and commanding stage presence truly kept the crowd hyped until the very last moment. Doechii’s dynamic performance served as the perfect finale, ensuring that the night ended on a high note. Notably, the only TDE artist who didn’t perform was ScHoolboy Q, for reasons unknown.

From Kendrick’s iconic set to GloRilla’s surprise appearance and Doechii’s show-stopping closing act, the TDE holiday concert was a perfect blend of community, nostalgia, and hip-hop excellence. Moreover, the evening proved to be about giving back to the community. Day two of the community giveback takes place on Friday, December 13 at the same location.

Ray Vaughn Finally Announces First Project With TDE And Delivers Isaiah Rashad-Assisted Single “East Chatt”

Ray Vaughn is going to help round out what’s been a very strong year for the TDE imprint with an upcoming EP. Not to be greedy or ungrateful, but it’s about damn time! We say that out of excitement though, as the Long Beach, California native has been highly impressive this year. Him, Doechii, and Devin Malik have all been showing that the label is good hands going forward and we ecstatic for what Ray’s going to bring. The extended play will be called The Good, The Bad, & The Dollar Menu, but there’s no release date yet. On top of that, the tracklist remains a mystery as well. However, the latter fact doesn’t surprise us at all because there are a lot of great songs to include on it.

Some of those include collaborations with Pusha T and SiR and terrific solo performances. You can throw “Black Jesus” and “Supposed To Die” into the latter category. According to the press release, The Good, The Bad, & The Dollar Menu is going to be a holistic listening experience. “The EP will showcase the various experiences Ray has encountered through his adolescence, journey as an artist, to his eventual signing with TDE.” While we wait on what should be a personal project, Ray Vaughn is feeding into those themes with his newest offering from it, “EAST CHATT.” It’s another collaborative effort with TDE veteran Isaiah Rashad and a mellow one at that. Rashad kicks the track off with his signature hazy delivery before Vaughn comes in with a passionate verse about his upbringing and successes he’s achieved. You can stream the song below with the music video link.

Kal Banx & Isaiah Rashad Connect & Kickback On Mellow “Sunstory”

If you don’t know who Kal Banx is, you may want to do your homework on the TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) producer. He’s been behind some of the best singles and projects over the last several years. 2024 has especially been a strong year for the steady veteran, though. Banx has his prints all over Doechii’s excellent breakout mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal. ScHoolboy Q got some assistance from him on BLUE LIPS. But don’t think he’s only favoring his label mates. Banx produced Denzel Curry’s “Walkin,” several Baby Keem tracks from DIE FOR MY B****, as well a few from Dreamville’s Revenge Of The Dreamers III.

However, the hitmaker has spent most of his time in the industry lending a hand to other MCs. But it seems like Kal Banx is getting ready to drop his first solo project because he’s back with “Sunstory.” This record comes just a few weeks after the release of “HOP OUT CHO FEELINS” with Smino and Buddy. If you have heard that, it’s a pretty lowkey trunk-knocker with crisp bass and melodic performances. The same goes for “Sunstory,” which features the most chill MC on the TDE label, Isaiah Rashad. These tracks are very cohesive sonically, the cover artworks are almost identical, which means an album has to be on the horizon… right?

Kendrick Lamar Breaks Instagram Silence To Praise TDE Star Doechii

Doechii is having a moment. The TDE rapper dropped one of the most acclaimed albums of the year, Alligator Bites Never Heal, in August. She’s since become the most buzzed-about artist on the label, which is saying a lot for a roster packed with generational talent. Doechii has been making music for a minute, but Alligator Bites has truly been her coming out party. And Kendrick Lamar, of all people, has taken notice. The mysterious member of the Big Three broke his social media silence to heap praise on Doechii via Instagram.

The K. Dot embargo was lifted on October 17. The Compton rapper posted a screenshot of Doechii’s album along with an alligator emoji. It was the caption that came with the emoji, however, that turned heads. Lamar dubbed Doechii “the hardest out” period. For a rapper who has dominated the game in 2024, that’s quite the praise. It’s also further proof that Lamar is a TDE supporter through and through, despite no longer being on the label.

Doechii Dubbed Lamar ‘The Greatest’ In Return

Doechii returned the praise to Kendrick Lamar on her own Instagram profile. She reposted Dot’s caption and added: “Thank you Dot, you the greatest.” The exchange may seem like a moderate deal on its face, but it’s a big deal based on Doechii’s previous comments. The TDE signee went on The Joe Budden Pod and admitted that Lamar is at the top of her dream collaborator list. Budden asked if she expected a Dot guest verse for her album, given the TDE connection, but she clarified that she did not expect anything. She also claimed that wants to refine her artistry further before working with a rapper of Lamar’s level.

“That’s the goal,” Doechii explained. “Eventually I’m gonna ask Top [Dawg] if he could ask Kendrick, or ask Kendrick myself and see what comes from that. But I’ma be real. I don’t think I have the record right now for that opportunity. I think I would have to come a certain way and I don’t think I’m ready for that.” Lamar’s co-sign is certainly a step in the right direction when it comes to locking up a feature from the rapper in the future. We can only hope we don’t have to wait to long to hear Dot and Doechii team up.

Is Kendrick Lamar Dropping Soon? Latest Hint Out Of TDE May Have Given Us An Answer

Excitement for Kendrick Lamar’s next studio album is reaching new heights on social media after TDE affiliate Devin Malik’s latest post. Malik confirmed that a new project from Lamar is in the works on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night. Throughout the years, he’s worked with ScHoolboy Q and Isaiah Rashad while also making an appearance at the recent Pop Out concert.

“Mood cause new k dot album otwwww,” he captioned a clip of himself on stage next to Lamar at The Pop Out. Fans had excited reactions to the announcement. “Ome on naw. Don’t play, man… You know we trying to wait patiently for it to drop…” one user replied to Malik. Another wrote back: “Nahhhh this is messed up if you playing with us. Need that sh*t yesterday.”

Malik isn’t the first TDE affiliate to hint at a new album from Lamar in recent months. Terrace Martin, who has collaborated with Lamar on numerous occasions, teased a new album from the rapper on Instagram Live, earlier this year. “Aye, let me tell y’all the records I’m excited for. I’m excited for YG’s album, I’m excited for Mustard’s album. I’m excited for a lot of people, but there’s two albums. I’m going crazy, I can’t wait ’til they drop,” he began. “Roddy Ricch album and whenever Kendrick drops his album, I’m excited for those two. Those two Compton artists is like, I’m excited. So much sh*t bubbling, you know?”

Devin Malik Teases Kendrick Lamar’s Next Move

Rumors about a new album for Lamar come as he prepares for a headlining set at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show. Additionally, there’s been rumors floating that he plans to embark on a stadium tour afterward. Be on the lookout for further updates on Kendrick Lamar on HotNewHipHop.

Playboi Carti Laughs At Adin Ross After Streamer Gets Mocked By Hitta J3

Playboi Carti is really keeping fans on their toes. The rapper spent years in silence. He rarely posted on social media, and never, ever released music. All that has changed in the last month. Playboi Carti has dropped two (!) singles, including a collab with The Weeknd. He’s regularly promoting his album on IG and Twitter. And he’s even taking time out of his day to make fun of Kick streamer Adin Ross. Ross has been making headlines as of late for beefing with L.A. artists, and Carti decided to get in on the fun.

The Adin Ross vs. L.A. saga started on September 26. The streamer called out a Kendrick Lamar affiliate for claiming he wasn’t welcome on the West Coast due to his friendship with Drake. Ross proceeded to deny these claims, and threatened to sue the alleged affiliate. Ross also posted a video in which he said he would have security physically assault him. The tension boiled over the following day. Hitta J3, an L.A. rapper who claims to be a Kendrick Lamar affiliate, mocked Adin Ross via Instagram Stories. He brought up the incident in which Playboi Carti went on Ross’ stream, then left after six minutes and proceeded to dip with $2 million of the streamer’s money.

Playboi Carti Had An Infamous Appearance On A Ross Stream

“No wonder Carti didn’t take your podcast serious,” Hitta J3 wrote. “You n**gas be kids with some fame & let it get to yall head Adin.” It was a pretty devastating diss. Playboi Carti’s involvement only made it hit harder. The rapper decided to repost Hitta’s post on his own IG timeline and included a laughing emoji. It clearly struck him as funny that Ross is still getting made fun for an incident that happened in February. It is pretty obvious that Playboi Carti doesn’t have a lot of respect for Ross as a tastemaker.

The rapper has mostly stayed out of the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar battle, and while he didn’t tip his hand either way, this dig against Ross is the closest we’ve seen to him picking a side. Playboi Carti wasn’t the only artist who dissed Adin Ross on Friday. Smac TDE went online and claimed that he was annoyed by Ross’ tough talk. He claimed to have been a fan of the streamer in the past, but vowed to mace and attack Adin Ross’ security if he ever saw him in L.A.

Taylor Swift Fuels New Music Rumors By Linking Up With TDE Producer Sounwave

Taylor Swift does not stop. She’s been one of the hardest-working musicians of the 2020s. Between her new albums and the re-recording of her old albums, it’s any wonder she has time to tour. Things seemed to have cooled down after the less-than-stellar reaction to her last album, though. Swift hasn’t hinted at any new music, or announced re-recording plans. Her longtime producer, however, started cranking the rumor mill on September 18. Jack Antonoff posted a series of photos on Instagram, and one of them featured TDE producer Sounwave.

The black-and-white photo dump sees Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff and Sounwave occupying the same studio space. Sounwave is alone in his photo, but the background make it clear as day that he was at the sessions being documented. The only real clue that fans have regarding the session is a time stamp with the date December 21, 2023 in the corner. This is a crucial piece of information. Taylor Swift dropped her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, in April. It would be easy to dismiss the photo of Sounwave as being from the Poets sessions, but the producer is not listed anywhere on the album’s credits.

Taylor Swift Worked With Sounwave On “Midnights”

The music that Taylor Swift and Sounwave made in December has not yet seen the light of day, which is why Swifties think there’s a new release around the corner. Jack Antonoff is very much a partner in crime when it comes to giving the fans clues. His posts are often teases of what’s to come, so the chances of a Sounwave photo meaning nothing are low. Besides, Sounwave has an established working relationship with both Antonoff and Swift. The TDE producer is part of the supergroup Red Hearse alongside Sam Dew and Antonoff. He’s also produced smash hits on multiple Taylor Swift songs dating back to 2019.

Sounwave is credited as a producer on Taylor Swift’s “Lover Boy.” His biggest contribution to the Swift catalog came in 2022, though. He is all over the pop star’s album Midnights, co-producing singles like “Lavender Haze” and “Karma.” This collaborative dynamic proved to be a two way street in 2024. The TDE veteran produced Kendrick Lamar’s diss song “616 In LA,” and he enlisted none other than Jack Antonoff to help him out. Given that Lamar’s opponent, Drake, had previously referenced Swift on the “Taylor Made Freestyle,” the link up seemed just as intentional as Antonoff’s new Instagram post.
