Peso Pluma Shouts Out Gervonta Davis On His Newest Single

One of Mexico‘s biggest artists is finishing out 2024 with a celebratory type of track. Peso Pluma is here with “gervonta,” his first solo release since his massive double album, ÉXODO, which hit streaming back in June. On this near three-minute cut, the Zapopan native raps in his typical yelpy and growly delivery over a trumpet and guitar-led instrumental. While the entire song isn’t showing love to American boxing champion Gervonta Davis, Pluma does shout him out on the chorus.

Cryptocurrencies come my way / Front row watching Gervonta in Las Vegas / Shining, Swiss watch on my wrist / And on a private jet because time flies.” For a majority, he’s actually flexing his wealth and motion. “Girls in the jacuzzi, the guys with Uzis and SCARs / More private parties, Marca Registrada, my man / We party, molly and wax, tropical blew the coconut / Hooded up, hustling ovеr in Dubai.” So, why would Peso Pluma namedrop the athlete in the track? Well, according to Variety, he’s a massive fan of wrestling, boxing, and similar sports for a long time. In fact, his stage name actually translates to “featherweight,” a weight classification. He’s listed off some inspirations in his career like Ric Flair, for example. You can chec out “gervonta” with the YouTube audio link below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Pure damsel who likes to misbehave
And a brunette who doesn’t know how to act
Gloss and lipsticks, she’s high, lit a joint from the Fly
Like a fish in water, we’re all flying under the radar
An Italian who drives me around the city
In Al Capone mode, mob boss, and sightseeing in Japan

Roc Marciano & The Alchemist Share The First Look At Their Forthcoming Collab Tape With “Chopstick”

Roc Marciano started off 2024 with a bang, and now, he’s looking to leave with one to cap it off. According to Genius, the Long Island, New York native will be dropping another project this coming Friday, December 13. The Skeleton Key is the name, and it will boast a tight, 10-song tracklist. The underground legend shared the tracklist on his Instagram just moments ago, which you can view below. However, this isn’t a solo Roc project. Instead, it’s going to be another collab tape with The Alchemist. That means this will be a follow-up to their inaugural and successful joint effort, The Elephant Man’s Bones.

That hit in 2022 and multiple tracks from it remain some of Roc’s most popular releases to date. With that in mind, why not run it back? Well, we hopefully won’t have to wait long, but in case we do, they have shared the first single. It’s called “Chopstick,” and if this is how the tape is going to roughly sound, we are all ears. In typical Roc and Uncle Al fashion, the production falls into the boom bap category and it’s very grimy and menacing. There are several slick lines about fishing hooks, bookies, and Tems. If you want to hear them, check out the new music video which is also just landed not too long ago. There’s going to be no features, and all of the beats will be exclusively handled by Alchemist. To us, it sounds like we are in for a real treat in four days.

Life After TDE: Reason Returns With 2-Pack “I’ll Get Over It”

Newly independent recording artist Reason closes out 2024 with a return to rap in two new songs, packaged in a collection called I’ll Get Over It. “Sick N Tied” and “Brodie” showcase the artist’s impressive conscious raps while naturally expressing his emotions about past trials and tribulations. The new music foreshadows what we can expect from the West Coast star after departing Top Dawg Entertainment.

“Brodie” is the highlight of the two tracks, but “Sick N Tied” delivers a commercial impact. On “Brodie,” he thrills with slick talk about always being doubted but continuing to show and prove again and again, and he doesn’t owe anyone anything. About the money, Rez acknowledges his freedom and how much of a problem he plans to be for the rap game. The Carson, California native promised to unleash plenty of new music in a previous interview. It appears that TDE and the artist parted ways on good terms, as neither has spoken negatively about the other since June.

The new tracks are the first official releases by the former TDE artist since departing the label in June. He signed with the legendary label in 2017 and released three albums. Released in 2023, Porches was his last album with the label, which features TDE’s own SiR, Ray Vaughn, and Doechii. Reason continues to support all of the TDE acts on social media. The next chapter of his journey appears very promising.

Memphis’s Fayro Harshly Disses Three-6-Mafia In “Frayser Boy” & More On Double Album “Weight On It”

In a year of rap beef, one more joins the fray in Fayro and DJ Paul, Juicy J. The prominent Memphis recording artist addresses his issues with legendary natives Thrre-6-Mafia with a double album, led by the diss track “Frayser Boy.” Blending claims with his undeniable blend of catchy hooks and signature lingo, Fayro attracts attention using a vintage hip-hop war blueprint. Any hip-hop enthusiast will appreciate the depth and variety provided by regional collaborations and standout singles on the album.

The talk around “Frayser Boy” resulted in the popularity of other album cuts such as “Memories In Memphis,” “Uh Uh Uh,” and “Get You One.” Fay describes “Frayser Boy” as a statement. The controversial yet cocky and confident release tells the story of a real-life situation. The history between Fayro and Three-Six-Mafia remains unconfirmed outside of the two parties from Memphis. The emerging star has a lengthy resume, including various Memphis hip-hop legends such as Lil Whyte and Kia Shine. With a known diss to Triple 6, Weight On It was released to an anticipated audience.

Using hardcore, heartfelt, and comedic hip-hop, Fayro tells a story about growing up in Memphis. Throughout the two-disc drop, listeners are taken on an audible journey and provided with a sonic treat. His skill in fusing genres and styles has positioned the album as a regional classic. Three-6-Mafia have not commented on Fayro’s album yet, but as history would tell, the group is known to respond to any and all disses. Juicy J released a jazz album over the summer while DJ Paul has been busy with his solo career. In 2023, the legendary group suffered the loss of Gangsta Boo.

Quotable Lyrics:

Maybe it’s because I’m pressure

Foot on they neck like some Reeboks

From Greenbriar to High Park, I used to bump your album like, ‘this man hard’

Come to find out behind the scenes, you scamming artists with a chime card?

I don’t need an Oscar to play my part

Queen Naija Remembers The Fallen With New Collection “Straight Outta Heaven”

Queen Naija releases a three-song collection honoring those who have passed away, beautifully titled Straight Outta Heaven. The EP contains the previously released “Good Girls Finish Last,” which marked her return to the music scene after a brief hiatus. In Straight Outta Heaven, Queen Naija’s soulful voice shines as she reflects on the challenges and joys of raising her two sons. She candidly expresses the vulnerability of parenting, acknowledging the absence of a rulebook while affirming her unconditional love.

This heartfelt release follows Missing You, a tribute to her late friend and bodyguard Beast, and Good Girls Finish Last, which marked her return to the music scene after a brief hiatus. The track delves into the profound journey of motherhood, weaving together themes of love, hope, and divine connection. With Straight Outta Heaven, Queen Naija continues to prove why she’s one of the most compelling storytellers in music today.

“When I became pregnant with my second child, I worried about how to split my love in half,” she shared in the press release. “That’s something many mothers wrestle with. Straight Outta Heaven captures that emotion. There’s no guide to this #momlife—we’re all just trying our best.” Dubbed “the first soul star of the social media generation” by The New York Times, Queen Naija has built an impressive career. Her catalog boasts multiple RIAA certifications and over 6 billion global streams. In 2024, Naija celebrated the five-year anniversary of her double-platinum breakout hit, Medicine. The track was inspired by a breakup.

AzChike Makes His Solo Return With “Love Yo Weapons”

Kendrick Lamar helped put his fans and other hip-hop listeners on to some underappreciated West Coast talent on GNX. Lefty Gunplay, Dody6, Wallie the Sensei, and Hitta J3 are just a few. But there’s one in particular that we are focusing on today who wasn’t listed. AzChike is getting the HNHH spotlight shone on him this weekend thanks to “Love Yo Weapons.” It’s his newest single, and first solo release since May. The Los Angeles native really shined next to K. Dot on the eerie and intimidating “peekaboo,” trading some lines in an engaging performance. He’s equally so on this track, as he raps about the dangerous street life out West, life’s tests, and protecting your own.

Whether or not this lands on a project remains to be seen. AzChike has already dropped off three in 2024, including CHIZZLE, Spooky Summer, and Don’t Die Yet, with the latter being a collab tape with Low the Great. The production on “Love Yo Weapons” is another high-quality aspect of this track, though. It contains a woozy saxophone loop that pops in at various points throughout. Additionally, it’s got that West Coast bounce that you come to expect. If the effectiveness of this record is surprising to you, we want to remind you he’s been doing this for a while. He’s been in the business for about six years and has some solid cuts under his belt. Chike Different, his 2022 tape, features a great deal of his biggest songs. So, him getting the love from Lamar is great, but he would be doing just fine without the nod.

J Cole May Bring You To Tears With “2014 Forest Hills Drive” Bonus Track “Die Together”

The year didn’t get off to the strongest of starts for J Cole this year. However, the backend is a completely different story. Over these past couple of weeks, he’s been giving his fans some incredible stories through his Inevitable audio platform. They have very detailed accounts of the first few years of his career and the projects he dropped within that span. But what’s more is that he’s officially shared some music and mixtapes that have been coveted for so long. His first three mixtapes are out now on streaming, and so are some leftovers from the 2014 Forest Hills Drive era.

It’s all to commemorate the album’s 10-year anniversary, which will be on December 9. They were available on two exclusive (and now sold out) physical variants of the album which each had 2,014 units available. There are eight in total and four of them are finding their way onto YouTube thanks to customers receiving the blue alternate cover. “Home Soon,” “Die Together,” “Judgment Day,” and “Winter Wonderland” are in the first batch. The second is sticking out to fans and us the most thanks to its possible connection to 4 Your Eyez Only. He appears to rapping from the perspective of his late friend who refers to as James McMillian, Jr. It’s an amazing storytelling piece, and one that most likely inspired that project. Fair warning: this one may make you cry a little.

Quotable Lyrics:

I swear to God, I cry when I look in my daughter eye
I’m thinkin’ if I die tonight, I never taught her how to ride a bike
And how to fight if n****s clownin’ on her

Megan Thee Stallion Connects With Twice For Colorful K-pop Crossover “Strategy”

If you follow Megan The Stallion, you know how much of a fan she is of other cultures. That’s especially true when it comes to Japan. While K-pop super group TWICE hails from South Korea, the Houston rapper isn’t going to turn an opportunity to work with them because of that. That’s exactly what’s going on this weekend, as they have just dropped off “Strategy,” the opener and title track from TWICE’s 14th (!) mini album. If you aren’t familiar, they one of the most popular K-pop groups, with BLACKPINK and BTS maybe the only ones ahead of them.

They are known for songs like “What is Love?” “FANCY,” “The Feels,” and “I CAN’T STOP ME.” “Strategy” could very well join these tracks as one of their most beloved, though, because it’s extremely catchy. It’s got this cute charm and colorful personality about it that just works. The producers really made a winning instrumental by including various instruments and sound effects that are all perfectly placed in the mix. Also selling the record for us are the pre-chorus, chorus, and refrain. It’s a very empowering girl anthem about getting a man to fall of them under their own strategy. Megan also has a playful and animated verse on the backend that ties things together quite nicely. Once you hear, you will get addicted. Trust us, we are speaking from firsthand experience.

I got him pressed like he’s workin’ on his triceps (Hmm)
I’m a flirt, I’m a tease, they be hurt after me

Consequence, Rick Ross, Ghostface Killah, Jim Jones And 38 Spesh Drop “Blood Stain III”

Consequence has quietly been dropping great songs all year. “No Consequences” was a great collab with Kanye West, and “What Has America Done” saw the G.O.O.D. Music alum team up with Chuck D. “Blood Stain III” keeps his winning streak going. The difference here, though, is that Consequence is pulling out all the stops. He didn’t call upon one hip hop legend, but a whole roster of them to drop by and deliver stellar verses. Plus, one of the most infectious Kanye West beats in a minute.

Consequence handles the hook on “Blood Stain III,” but he relinquishes ground to his guests. Ghostface Killah kicks things off with an aggressive, punchline driven verse. He hasn’t lost a step, and Kanye even throws in a few RZA-esque punching effects to sell the Wu-Tang of it all. Rick Ross is the next rapper up, and he skates with a verse that’s slicker and more braggadocios than Ghost’s. Jim Jones is not a name you might have expected to see on a 2024 posse cut, but he acclimates well. He doesn’t rap so much as he talks ish over the beat, but it still sounds good. 38 Spesh closes out the guest verses, and he does his usual thing on the back end. Consequence wraps the song up himself, and delivers arguably the second best verse. Check this one out ASAP.

Lil Tjay And Polo G Get Contemplative On “Way Out The Hood II”

Lil Tjay and Polo G are a slept on duo. They have repeatedly shown that they have great chemistry together on songs like “Back to the Wall” and “Pop Out.” They have similar, sing-songy flows and rap styles, but are distinct enough to stand out from one another on a song. “Way Out the Hood II” is the latest instance of Lil Tjay and Polo G working together, and it’s one of their best releases yet. It’s the sequel to Tjay’s “Way Out the Hood” from October, and we’d argue he improved on the original.

“Way Out the Hood II” is just as somber as the first part. It’s basically the same instrumental, which isn’t a problem given how dramatic and affecting the piano keys buried in the mix are. Lil Tjay reflects on the horrors he’s witnessed growing up, and his desire to escape. It’s a highly personal song that could have been disrupted by a poorly chosen guest feature. Fortunately, Polo G’s aesthetic lines up perfectly with the song and its thematic focus. “I can tell you the truth, how it happened,” he rapped. “JIust hopped in the booth, started spazzin’. Me and Tjay in this Coupe, it’s an Aston. Remember I kept gettin’ news that was tragic.” Lil Tjay and Polo G give listeners a lot to think about. Maybe we will be lucky enough to get part three.
