Doodie Lo Talks Candid Relationship With Drugs On “Purple Nightmares”

For Doodie Lo, things have not been the greatest. The veteran MC from Illinois has been dealing with rehab and a defamation lawsuit that left him feeling suicidal. As for the first of the two personal issues, there was speculation as to why he was entered into a facility. According to Hip-Hop Lately it was because of drug problems that were heightened after the court battles with his ex FTN Bae. Thankfully, it seems that Doodie Lo is working his way back to making music as he is back with a new single, “Purple Nightmares.”

This could be a reference to the troubling year he had in 2023. He raps, “Sippin’ all that codeine, at night, I’m havin’ nightmares / Woke up in the middle of the night, my killer right there.” Luckily, his OTF crew mate Lil Durk was there for him during his time in need. He wound up paying him $110,000 to assist in his recovery.

YTB Fatt has been on the rise over the last several months. That is because he got started almost a year go today! Yes, in just this short amount of time, he is becoming one of the names you have to know from the Memphis area. Today, we are back to cover YTB Fatt’s latest single “Brazi Blue Cheese.”

Listening to his music, you are going to hear the clear influence of the city envelop his style. The deep and intimidating cadence is there, similar to artists like Key Glock, Yo Gotti, and Young Dolph. Production wise he likes to choose beats with the heavy piano keys atop rumbling bass and quick hi-hats. YTB is still discerning himself from the rest of stars down South, but he is well on his way.

“Brazi Blue Cheese” standout feature is the instrumental from klutchfrenchie and Coldblime. It is one the most fierce sounding beats we have heard all year so far. There is also a fun Super Mario Bros. coin collecting sound thrown in for some extra character. YTB does hold up his end of things though too with a catchy flow and some solid bars.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Brazi Blue Cheese,” by YTB Fatt? Is this one of his strongest tracks of his career, why or why not? ScHoolboy Q Is Feeling Himself On “THank God 4 Me”

One of the themes that seems to be very prevalent in ScHoolboy Q’s new album BLUE LIPS is celebration and growth. It makes sense for the California MC to be talking about this so much too. As most fans of hip-hop know, it had been five years almost since CrasH Talk. With all of that time in between albums, a person is most likely going to see a lot of change in their lives and with their approach to music as a whole.

ScHoolboy kind of spelled out for us what BLUE LIPS really means and the feelings he wanted to convey to the audience. He did so in the rollout over the past month giving us the definition of the phrase. One of the handful of descriptions included being “speechless, especially as the temporary result of shock or strong emotion.” It is safe to say that Q is left with “blue lips” with how far he has come as of late, and throughout his incredible career.

Listen To “THank God 4 Me” By ScHoolboy Q

One of the tracks he expresses these feelings on is “THank god 4 me.” This song is fantastic for a few reasons. One of which is the incredible, yet sudden beat switch. It goes from low-key and minimal, to head and trunk-knocking instantaneously. The lyrics in the second half fit the hype nature of the production with loads of brags. “Big watch, n****, it’s glossy / Quick flex, gotta get off me (Yeah) / Get back, n****, you awful.” It is not the most elaborate writing from Q, but its simple nature gets his point across effectively, making for a exciting listen through and through.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “THank god 4 me,” by ScHoolboy Q? Is this the best track from BLUE LIPS, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? MIKE & Tony Seltzer Pay Homage To UGK On New Single “Underground Kingz”: Stream

MIKE and Tony Seltzer had an incredibly prolific 2023, but it seems like they had no plans of slowing down this year. Moreover, they just dropped another collaborative single exclusively on YouTube paying homage to UGK with the new music video for “Underground Kingz.” They dropped the track “R&B” a couple of weeks ago, and this new visual’s description on the social media platform indicates that there’s more coming. The New Jersey native included the following message: “MIKE & Tony Seltzer – Pinball 3/06.” As such, it seems like we’re getting a full collab album from this duo in just a couple of days on Wednesday (March 6), which is very exciting.

Furthermore, this track definitely adds to that hype with a vibrant, sample-led, and fun beat that speeds up and slows down for a completely different instrumental. In fact, each part of “Underground Kingz” evokes a Bay Area or Detroit bounce to some fast-paced or slower degree, and is also reminiscent of UGK’s Southern roots and artistry. We’re not sure if MIKE and Tony Seltzer actually sampled them for this song, but either way, their tribute came through both sonically and lyrically. Speaking of which, the “Mayors A Cop” lyricist comes through with some really sharp bars here displaying his consistently and mindfully talented pen. On the other hand, the beatsmith cooks up an amazing and cohesive atmosphere for him to ride on.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer’s “Underground Kingz”: Stream & Watch The Music Video

Meanwhile, the links between these two collaborators are quite curious. MIKE, Wiki, and The Alchemist dropped the project Faith Is A Rock last year, and Tony Seltzer teamed up with Wiki for their 14K Figaro album, also from 2023. As if that wasn’t enough, MIKE dropped his 2023 album Burning Desire, and they’re all excellent listens. If you haven’t heard “Underground Kingz” yet, check it out above exclusively on YouTube with its accompanying music video. Also, peep some standout lines from the track below and let us know what you think about the record and whether you’re excited for Pinball down in the comments section. Iann Dior Is Fed Up With The Love Games On “House On Fire”

One of the lanes that iann dior thrives in the most is the heartbreak/break up songs. Most of that comes from the expertise in genres such as pop punk and emo rap, that the youngster from Puerto Rico has. That may be a strong description, especially with the fact that he has not been around that long. But, he really has developed those skills nicely over time. It shows tenfold on iann dior’s new song “House On Fire.”

This track can be found on his new EP BLIND. He dropped it over this past weekend and it contains five other songs. You may have heard this cut already, as it has been out for a couple of weeks. However, we unfortunately missed it during its release. But, after hearing it for the first time, it is a shame we did not post about it back then.

We gushed about it in our BLIND write-up and we felt it was worth covering on its own. Iann pens a track about a love that is expiring by the second as he grows tired of the love interest’s child-like games. “Let all the flames get higher
Take all your s*** and leave, I know you not missing me / So come set this house on fire
,” iann sings with a catchy melody. You can check out the fiery record above to see why we are so in love with it.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “House On Fire,” by iann dior? Is this the best track from BLIND, why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? Future Steals The Show On Meek Mill-led “Giving Chanel”

Meek Mill has been made fun of a ton lately as fans continue to put his sexuality in question. This is happening because of the rumors circling that him and Diddy were in a relationship. Trolls are also having a time of it, especially after Meek Mill shouted out Future on Twitter for his verse on “Giving Chanel.” This track can be found on the Philadelphia rapper’s latest EP.

HEATHENISM is Mill’s five-track project that released this past weekend. The only other feature to be found is Fivio Foreign on “Whatever I Want.” Future and Meek have been collaborators for years. Their working relationship dates back to 2013 when they, along with Fabolous worked on the Dreamchasers 3 cut “Money Ain’t No Issue.”

Listen To “Giving Chanel” By Meek Mill & Future

On this latest joint offering though, Future absolutely dominates “Giving Chanel.” His verse takes up the bulk of the runtime. However, he manages to be entertaining throughout his performance. Hendrix’s fast-paced flow is stank-face inducing and he adds some cool cadences as well. For example, when he rhymes words with long “e” sounds he really draws out the vowel sound. You can check out the HEATHENISM track above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Giving Chanel,” by Meek Mill and Future? Is this the best track from HEATHENISM why or why not? What is your favorite element of the song and why? ScHoolboy Q & Rico Nasty Go Ballistic On “Pop”

One of the trademark formulas that ScHoolboy Q has pretty much perfected up until this point is delivery gritty bangers. Just listen to tracks like “Gangsta” and “The Purge,” for example and you will see what we mean. BLUE LIPS has some variations of that style as well across the record. “Pop,” with its heavy percussion and nasty guitar riffs, are perfect complements to ScHoolboy Q and Rico Nasty’s aggressive lyrics and cadence.

When it comes to a majority of rap albums, you are almost always looking for a strong opener to reel you in. In essence, it sets up the rest of the listening experience. “Pop” passes with flying colors in that department, as Q and Rico have great chemistry on this cut. It in its simplest form, this song is all about violence and sending warning shots to anyone trying to step up to you.

Listen To “Pop” By ScHoolboy Q & Rico Nasty

While Rico does deliver a zany performance, her verse would have been even better if it was a tad longer. “I ain’t poppin’ my s***, I keep a spear / I’m fresh as a mint, I’m hard as cement / You can’t leave a dent, demolish him, finish him.” It has so much potential based on these opening lines, but for the amount of time she had, she did make the most of it. ScHoolboy Q recently ranked this as his best album in a series of tweets, and we might have to agree with him, even if it is too early to say.

Pharrell Williams & Miley Cyrus Team Up For “Doctor (Work It Out)”

While we’re only a few months into 2024, it’s already been a wildly successful year for Miley Cyrus. The multi-hyphenate secured her first two Grammy Awards last month for her hit song “Flowers,” which was honored as Record of the Year as well as Best Pop Solo Performance of 2023. Her LP Endless Summer Vacation was also nominated for various awards.

Now, the performer is back with yet another pop anthem, this time in collaboration with hip-hop and R&B mainstay Pharrell Williams. The duo dropped off their new single “Doctor (Work It Out)” late last week, and it’s already received a tremendous amount of praise from fans.

Miley Cyrus & Pharrell Revive Bangerz Era Track

At the time of writing, the song is in the top 10 of the U.S. iTunes chart. It’s also trending on YouTube, Spotify and more. It features powerful vocals and fun adlibs from Miley, and groovy, upbeat production from Pharrell. While Pharrell doesn’t contribute to the track vocally, fans can agree that his touch is woven throughout, and embodies his signature sound. The release is also accompanied by a playful accompanying music video, which sees Miley channel her inner Tina Turner, dancing along to the catchy single.

Fans first got a glimpse at the unedited version of “Doctor (Work It Out)” back in 2017. It was originally written amid Miley’s Bangerz era, and though various other Pharrell-produced tracks made the cut, got set aside. Pharrell teased the official release in January of this year at the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2024 Collection event in Paris. What do you think of Pharrell and Miley Cyrus’ new song? Will you be adding “Doctor (Work It Out)” to your playlist? Do you think they should collaborate again in the future? Tago’s “D.A.M.N” Is A Perfect Introductory Track To His Music

At the start of 2024 we started a new segment here at HNHH where we track down new talent hip-hop and/or adjacent artists and compile about three to four of them. We then give you a quick synopsis about them and the song that we feel is a great way to introduce them. We will have another listicle of that coming in a few weeks for March. But for this artist, we have to give credit to AllHipHop for this hidden gem. Today, Tago makes his website premiere with a new single called “D.A.M.N.” Tago hails from Dallas, Texas and his style is so colorful.

That is apparent from the track, but also its creatively shot music video. Tago brings a smooth and confident tone to the song. Which makes sense considering what the main message is for this cut. According to AllHipHop, “D.A.M.N.” is an acronym that stands for “Determined and Motivated N****.”

Marv Won, Fatt Father, & Elzhi Rap With Conviction On “Measuring Stick”

The thing about rappers who come from areas of steel mills and industrial factories is that you know you are going to get music that embodies that lifestyle. Aggressive and gritty hip-hop gives listeners a sense of power to conquer anything life throws at them. Which makes sense, considering how tough being a blue-collar worker can be on a day-to-day basis. One artist in this hardcore hip-hop lane that comes across as authentic is Marv Won. The Detroit native is tough as nails anytime he hops on a beat. Today, we are covering Marv Won’s collaboration with Fatt Father and Elzhi called “Measuring Stick.”

This is a braggadocious track about being at the top of the rap game and being the example of greatness everyone else needs to meet. Marv Won and Fatt Father work together quite often and do so with ease. The reason for that is because both are in a rap posse called Fat Killahz. It consists of them and Bang Belushi, as well as King Gordy.
