Lecrae Jumps On Kendrick Lamar’s “Watch The Party Die” After Shoutout

Lecrae has jumped on Kendrick Lamar’s “Watch the Party Die” after being referenced on the original track. In a post on Instagram on Saturday night, the Christian rapper shared an audio clip of him rapping over the beat. Instead of a pair of black Air Force 1 shoes, he used a white pair for the artwork. “Welp.. this is what Lecrae would do,” he captioned the post.

On Lamar’s version of the track, he raps: “Sometimes I wonder what Lecrae would do / F*ck these n****s up or show ’em just what prayer do?” Crae first responded to the shout-out by writing on X (formerly Twitter) by writing: “Love you Dot….Always here. [praying hands emoji].”

Every time I get bored of his fitting in/safe rap, he drops something atomic and brings me back in again. I hope the next project is more of this. More realness to show why he bothers either way Jesus in the first place.” Another user writes: “Bro. The song, which fans have dubbed “Watch the Party Die,” sees him pick apart the music industry and modern culture. At different points, he even namedrops Christian rappers Lecrae and Dee-1, applauding them for their character.

“Sometimes I wonder what Lecrae would do / F*ck these n***as up or show ’em just what prayer do?” he rhymes towards the end of the song. “I want to be empathetic, my heart like Dee-1 / But I would—,” he spits at another point, omitting an apparent threat. Of course, Dee-1 and Lecrae wasted no time and quickly took to Twitter/X to share their reactions to the shoutout.

“Love you Dot…. Always here,” Lecrae wrote simply alongside a prayer emoji. Dee-1 shared an old photo of him and Kendrick, thanking him for mentioning him and delivering a hopeful remark about the future. “I appreciate the shoutout brother. @kendricklamar [heart emoji] More than you’ll ever know. A shift is happening. The time is now! [prayer emoji].” As expected, Dee-1 and Lecrae are far from the only ones to share their reactions to Kendrick’s new song recently.

Shortly after it dropped, for example, DJ Akademiks took to his comments section with a brief but telling message. “No no noooo,” he wrote. Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign took over Korea’s Goyang Stadium with their Vultures 2 listening experience last night, and as expected, are making headlines for various bizarre moments. For one, Ye dedicated his track “I Wonder” to Drake, which led to some debate. While some fans thought this was meant as a diss, others suspect he was simply using Drizzy’s name for clout. It wasn’t the only confusing part of the evening, however.

At one point in the show, Ye also gave Joe Budden a shoutout during “24,” following it up with “God’s not finished.” Obviously, there’s room for interpretation here, though most believe he was calling Budden out for criticizing him. Either way, it doesn’t look like the podcaster took the apparent jab too seriously, as evidenced by his reaction.

He began by performing his own rendition of the moment. “Korean n****s was like, ‘the f*ck you talkin’ bout?’” he added with a laugh. Clearly, he’s not looking for any smoke from Ye, though the same can’t be said for Yung Miami.
