Meanwhile, ScHoolboy Q recently explained why his next LP took quite a while to materialize. “This is our life, like me talking about our situations,” he said on the BACKONFIGG podcast. “You know, the s**t we done been through, homies we done lost to the system or to the streets. Like, me talkin’ about my mama’s trauma from her own brothers. You can’t compare that to somebody that won an NBA championship.

“When it comes to music, I don’t look at it as like, ‘Oh, you have to drop every year,’” he went on. “I’m like, no, your favorite rapper has to drop every year because he needs chili. I do what I want because I move off peace, I move off my experiences. As a[n] artist, if I bring nothing to the table that comes from my life, I don’t feel I should put it out.” For more news and the latest updates on ScHoolboy Q, log back into HNHH.

ScHoolboy Q Doesn’t Drop An Album Every Year For This Reason

Among the many incredible MCs that came up in the early 2010s, ScHoolboy Q is certainly one of the most well-respected among his peers. Moreover, his illustrious career has markers of conceptual excellence, hard-hitting aggression, impressive lyrical displays, and a commitment to only dropping when he feels like he has to. During a recent interview with the BACKONFIGG podcast, the TDE MC revealed why he doesn’t drop an album every year and why he’s slowed down on his releases. That will most likely change soon, as he’s been teasing the prompt arrival of his next project this year. While shouting out his contemporaries’ trajectory (Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, Danny Brown, and Mac Miller), the L.A. rapper explained how none of them treated hip-hop like a sport to dominate.

“This is our life, like me talking about our situations,” ScHoolboy Q expressed to the co-hosts. “You know, the s**t we done been through, homies we done lost to the system or to the streets. Like me talkin’ about my mama trauma from her own brothers. You can’t compare that to somebody that won an NBA championship.”

ScHoolboy Q Opens Up On How His Personal Experiences Impact His Artistic Process

“When it comes to music, I don’t look at it as like, ‘Oh, you have to drop every year,’” ScHoolboy Q continued. “I’m like, no, your favorite rapper has to drop every year because he needs chilli. I do what I want because I move off peace, I move off my experiences. As a[n] artist, if I bring nothing to the table that comes from my life, I don’t feel I should put it out.” Overall, it’s a very respectable and understandable perspective from one of the West Coast’s biggest musical voices in the 2010s and beyond.

Meanwhile, amid song previews and here-and-there comments on his next release, the 36-year-old is building up a lot of steam. With these thoughts in mind, fans expect this new phase to be a powerful and intent-driven effort from the artist. We’ll have to wait and see exactly how that drive and determination pans out. ScHoolboy Q Is Gearing Up For Exciting New Music Soon

Los Angeles, California’s own ScHoolboy Q has left fans starving for new material ever since CrasH Talk back in 2019. The only solo music we have from Q is the 2022 single “Soccer Dad” in 2022. A fun but hard-hitting track featuring a cool drum loop and sample, it is the rapper at his finest. Unfortunately, we have not heard much from the “Collard Greens” artist. That is until recently, over the past couple of months.

Back in June, Q and his team put out some updates on a new album coming, “very very soon,” and shortly after that, a video clip began to circle on Twitter. It features the likes of labelmates Ab-SoulIsaiah Rashad and SiR going berzerk behind the turntables to the new unreleased music. It sounds fantastic and we hope to hear it in the form of a single or on the forthcoming record. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and ScHoolboy Q is teasing his fans relentlessly once again.

Schoolboy Q Said He’s ‘Actually Not’ Joking About His Album Arriving Soon And It’s In The Mixing Process

Schoolboy Q seems to have confirmed that he’s finishing up on a new album that fans will be able to hear soon enough. He retweeted a video of the Back On Figg podcast hosts revealing that they were working with him on the record.

“We been in the mixing process of Schoolboy Q’s album. That sh*t is coming very very soon,” the podcast hosts said. “The album sounding fire. We just now letting y’all know. Schoolboy Q And Jay Rock’s Returns And Doechii’s Debut Album Are On TDE’s Album Release Schedule For 2023

Kendrick Lamar might have completed his Top Dawg Entertainment record deal, but TDE isn’t done yet. If anything, it looks like the Southern California-based label will be doubling down on its remaining roster and increasing its album release cadence this year. Top Dawg himself revealed as much today on Twitter during a fan Q&A that found him addressing everything from a potential Black Hippy project to which of the label’s artists have tours planned this year.

When one fan asked which albums are on the docket, Top Dawg reeled off a list including new acquisitions like Doechii, Ray Vaughn, and Reason, as well as longtime mainstays Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, and Zacari. However, he also mentioned a condition that needs to be met: “if everybody do their part,” he wrote. “when they turn them in I will release em.”

We’ve seen that process take upwards of four years — just look at Ab-Soul’s last project, as well as Isaiah Rashad’s and SZA’s — but even so, that gives TDE fans plenty to look forward to in 2023. Some of the roster’s newer additions could use the extra exposure and momentum from a potential compilation, while the veteran members’ fans have been waiting a while to hear from them (Jay Rock’s last album, Redemption, was in 2018; Q’s was 2019’s Crash Talk).
