Saweetie, the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated “it-girl,” turns up the holiday magic with the release of her enchanting new music video for “I Want You This Christmas,” out now via Warner Records. The visually stunning clip finds Saweetie in a winter wonderland, dazzling in a couture black gown atop icy glaciers, with a nostalgic nineties-inspired filter adding warmth to the festive vibes.
The video arrives as her single “Is It The Way” continues to climb, reaching the Top 5 at urban radio and amassing over 5 million streams. Saweetie’s holiday two-pack, Dear Big Santa, promises even more ICY cheer, cementing her place as a seasonal star blending love, glamour, and holiday spirit.
On this week’s episode of Call Her Daddy, Alex Cooper sits down with millennial rapper Saweetie, who opens up about her current approach to relationships, the craziest way she caught a partner cheating on her, when you should keep gifts from an ex and why she might be done dating rappers. She also discusses her love of hot Cheetos, the time she was renting rooms from Craigslist, coding on Myspace, and her new music.
The Cali rapper talks about how she is perceived by the public, saying, “I would say in the earlier on in my career, I would say, I would just disassociate myself from Saweetie ’cause there’s Diamonté and there’s Saweetie. I’m like, “Okay, if y’all knew Diamonté, to know me is to love me.” She adds, “Y’all wouldn’t be doing all this shitty stuff to me. So, at first, it was disassociation, but now I’m just so at peace with just who I am. I’m like, “God knows my heart,” and as long as God knows my heart, there’s no problem.”
When it comes to dating, Saweetie jokes that her only companion is her career. “I am seeing somebody….Their name starts with a C… Do you want to know their name?…My career, girl.” She goes on to say, “I just feel like I’m at a really special time in my career and I just have all these ideas and I want to channel my energy in a way where I feel like I can make the steps to where I see myself going and you know, I’m just really happy right now. I’m happy where my life is heading, so I’m dating my career.”

P-Lo gathers a roster of who’s who Bay Area rap stars to spread some holiday cheer in the new track “Player’s Holiday ‘25.” For the revamped song with a Hyphy touch, he grabs G-Eazy, Kamiyah, LaRussell, Larry June, thuy, and YMTK to spread some thizz. The anthem supports the NBA’s upcoming All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. P-Lo partners with the Golden State Warriors to create the star-studded track.
The anthem is from a forthcoming album. David Kelly of Golden State Entertainment chose P-Lo to oversee the album based on his longstanding relationship with the organization. “When we set out to create Golden State Entertainment, we wanted to work with artists who represent Bay Area culture but can also do so on a national and global scale,” Kelly told Billboard. “P-Lo fits that perfectly. He has a massive following in the Bay. He’s a rapper, producer and someone we’ve worked with before. His connections with other artists, like Saweetie, G-Eazy, Larry June and Kamaiyah, allow us to create a project like ‘Players Holiday’ that we can tie into a global platform like the NBA All-Star Game. It’s the perfect match for what we want to do.”
The posse cut is inspired by the 1999 T.W.D.Y. original. The original’s music video features Bay Area legends Too Short, Mac Mall, and E-40 throwing a yacht party to celebrate the fictitious holiday. The track sampled the Bill Withers classic, “Lovely Day.” Larry June delivers the song’s best verse among a group of thizz-tributed lines.
The holiday season is the most magical time of the year for a lot of people. They love celebrating and getting in the spirit as soon as Halloween is in its waning moments. Decorations inside and out start to get put up, wish lists are made, and family time is spent as much as possible. Musicians do help in getting people in the right mindset, as carols and other iconic compositions are always on the radio or ringing throughout stores of all kinds. Overall, the really help spread that holiday cheer and set the vibes right for the next two months. California rapper Saweetie is looking to assist with that, as she is here with her Dear Big Santa EP.
Unless there’s someone we’ve missed, she looks to be the first in the genre to be releasing holiday tunes. These are her first Christmas songs of her career too, and they are naughty and nice. “I Want You This Christmas” is the cutesier and cuddlier record, as she sings and raps about treating her man right. However, “Big Santa” is the complete opposite. The are numerous sexual innuendos peppered throughout the song, such as “Put me on your wishlist, I know you wanna have me / I got a big bow on my body, unwrap me / Might be a little naughty, but you know I keep it classy (Mwah).” No matter where you fall on Santa’s list, Saweetie’s got you covered with an ideal anthem this Christmas.
“I Want You This Christmas” & “Big Santa” – Saweetie
Quotable Lyrics From “Big Santa”:
Better than any gift is you wrapped up beside me With you here like this Mm-mhm, underneath the tree No holidays is lonely With you next to me Oh-oh, I’m falling like the sno-ow
Over the decades, Halloween’s meaning has changed drastically. Today, the holiday is largely about expressing creativity. For entertainers like Heidi Klum and Janelle Monáe, that sometimes means hours of prosthetic and special effects makeup. But they aren’t the only celebrities that take the day especially seriously.

The holiday season just got a boost as Grammy-nominated rapper and style icon Saweetie drops Dear Big Santa, a new holiday-themed 2-pack release via Warner Records. Known for her hit-making flair and signature ICY attitude, Saweetie’s latest release delivers sultry vibes and high-energy beats, adding her twist to seasonal celebrations.
In this festive duo, “I Want You This Christmas” offers a smooth slow jam, showcasing Saweetie’s melodic side—perfect for cozying up by the fire. Conversely, “Big Santa” turns up the holiday spirit with playful lyrics and a bass-driven beat, promising a fresh, hip-hop-infused take on holiday anthems.
This release caps off a massive 2024 for Saweetie with chart-topping hits like “NANi” and memorable performances, solidifying her spot as a multi-talented star.
Saweetie may be known for being one of the biggest proponents of Halloween festivities, but it looks like she’s got her eye on another holiday tonight. Instead of frights and fears, she’s bringing Christmas cheer with a double single release consisting of “Big Santa” and “I Want You This Christmas.” To be honest, she deserves props for holding off so long; you just know her Filipino side was ready to put up that Christmas tree on September 1st.
“Big Santa” is her turnt-up, post-hyphy version of “Santa Baby,” listing off all the presents she wants her jolly fellow to bring down the chimney this year. While noting she’s already got Birkins, she suggests a trip to Aspen or, of course, some additions to her ever-growing diamond collection. She is the Icy Queen, after all.
Meanwhile, “I Want You This Christmas” is a more mellow affair, opening with a soulful sample and an airy beat, over which she proves that she’s just as good at giving as receiving (despite its title). She shows off her double-time flow and some of her vocals, promising her affection is “better than any gifts.”
2024 saw Saweetie pick up her output, sharing fan favorite singles like “Nani” and “Is It The Way.” She’s turning out to be very generous this year.
You can listen to “Big Santa” and “I Want You This Christmas” above.
Saweetie is a woman of many talents. Over the weekend, she joined the women of the San Diego State University Diamonds dance squad during the homecoming game as they performed a routine to “My Type.”
Last month, Saweetie delivered her latest single, “IS IT THE WAY,” released via Warner Records. The track, which samples Jill Scott’s classic “The Way,” highlights Saweetie’s signature empowering verses, celebrating individuality and strength. Dedicated to women around the globe, “IS IT THE WAY” embraces the ICY Girl mentality that Saweetie has become known for.
The accompanying music video, directed by Tajana Tokyo, takes fans on a cinematic journey through the streets of London. With a sleek, icy-blue aesthetic, the visuals capture Saweetie’s bold fashion choices and unapologetic energy. Every scene exudes confidence, making it clear that this release begins an exciting new chapter for the artist.
Saweetie’s return comes after a whirlwind summer, and with “IS IT THE WAY,” she invites listeners into her world, blending personal style with a message of empowerment.
The last few years have seen a rise in rappers making more direct interpolations of older songs. Saweetie’s latest single, “Is It The Way,” samples Jill Scott’s classic neo-soul track “The Way,” from her 2001 debut album Who Is Jill Scott? She flips it drastically, turning it from a mid-tempo flirty love letter to a much more overtly raunchy track with a trap beat. She talks about her authenticity, her physical attractiveness, and sex. That is Saweetie’s M.O., and it has been since she debuted.
LL Cool J recently tapped Saweetie for his Q-Tip-produced comeback album, The FORCE. The track, “Proclivities,” is another raunchy cut that does not deal much in innuendo. Generally speaking, Saweetie is not one for metaphors, which is clear on this new single as well. In August, Saweetie made headlines for her roller-coaster relationship with YG. The two of them reportedly got into an altercation that necessitated police involvement to break up. Soon after, YG heavily implied that Saweetie cheated on him in an Instagram post (posting a lion and a cheetah emoji on his story, seemingly referring to her as a “lying cheater”), though the Compton rapper denied that was the case. The status of their relationship at this point is unclear. Based on their history, it does not seem that this song is about YG, to say the least. Perhaps they could both stand to learn something from Jill Scott’s music. Stream “Is It The Way” below.
Is it the way I handle business? (My business) Authentic with no gimmicks (Ooh) They talkin’, but I live it (Yeah) I get up back and flip it (Uh-huh) Singapore, Dubai, the only time you catch me trippin’, yeah (Pew) Ain’t no way (Yeah) Just ’cause I’m a player, baby, that don’t mean I play (Play) I know you a hater, see it written on your face (Face)
Say what you want to about Saweetie’s stop-and-start album rollout, but the Bay Area bombshell has been on a roll lately. After the UGK-inspired “Richtivities” rebooted the rollout, “Nani” has become a sleeper hit, landing placement in a number of high-profile syncs, while her feature on LL Cool J’s “Proclivities” gave her the co-sign from a hip-hop legend. She returns to her 808s-and-soul-samples bag — her most effective mode, in this writer’s opinion — for “Is It The Way.” Pairing a trunk-rattling Texas beat with a loop from Jill Scott’s 2001 hit “The Way,” Saweetie contemplates all the attention she gets while combining the best parts of her last two singles.
In the video accompanying the song, Saweetie struts the streets of London, causing all the British boys’ heads to turn in her haute couture looks, which include a truly stupendous pair of heels and Union Jack-bearing short shorts that just scream “Spice Girls.” The whole video is a throwback to the British R&B invasion of the early 2000s (think Craig David’s “Fill Me In”), which could provide a fruitful new avenue for the particular form of millennial nostalgia that Saweetie has embraced throughout her career. The trendsetter has been making a solid push for a comeback, and with a few more tracks like this, the turnaround could truly be just around the corner.
