Rolling Loud Cancels Its 2023 New York Festival For ‘Logistical Factors’

Rolling Loud is pulling the plug on its New York event this year after being unable to pull together the necessary elements to ensure a full, safe festival experience. The organizers shared a statement on Instagram, explaining that “due to logistical factors beyond our control, Rolling Loud will not return to New York in 2023.”

While the statement doesn’t go into details, it does promise that the festival will return when it’s more feasible to do so, while encouraging fans to attend the Miami festival in July. Although Rolling Loud New York was one of the festival’s most notable events in 2021 and 2022, it was also the one most plagued by outside interference, as NYPD blocked a number of local acts from taking the stage amid Mayor Eric Adams’ intifada against drill music, and rappers like ASAP Rocky, Playboi Carti, and 21 Savage had their sets cut short or canceled altogether.

Fortunately, Rolling Loud continues to expand internationally, with events planned this year in Germany, Portugal, Thailand, and The Netherlands. Perhaps they’re just stretched thin for the time being, but hopefully, they’ll be able to come back better than ever next year. You can see the statement and the social media post announcement below.

NEW YORK
FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS, WE’VE MADE SOME LEGENDARY MOMENTS HAPPEN IN QUEENS.
WE SAW THE BEGINNING OF THE KING VAMP ERA, TRAVIS POWER THROUGH HIS FULL SET THROUGH THE PAIN, CARTI AND UZI REUNITING ON STAGE, NICKI, 50 CENT, AND ASAP ROCKY PUTTING ON ICONIC HEADLINING PERFORMANCES IN THEIR HOMETOWN, JUICE WRLD’S FINAL FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE, AND MANY, MANY MORE MOMENTS.

SADLY, DUE TO LOGISTICAL FACTORS BEYOND OUR CONTROL, ROLLING LOUD WILL NOT RETURN TO NEW YORK IN 2023.

BUT DON’T WORRY, THIS ISN’T “GOODBYE.” MORE LIKE “SEE YOU LATER.” WE’LL BE BACK IN NEW YORK WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT.
IN THE MEANTIME, WE INVITE ALL OF OUR NEW YORK FANS TO MEET US IN MIAMI JULY 21-23 FOR OUR BIGGEST, BEST FESTIVAL OF THE YEAR.

+ LOVE YOU ALL! ROLLING LOUD FOREVER. + +

The festival streets are getting spicy. The Rolling Loud team noticed Wireless Festival used content from Rolling Loud festivals to promote their own. In response, Rolling Loud hit social media with an invoice, billing them for “Video footage assistance for promotional use and for festival reviving.”

Ken Carson, Lil Durk, Playboi Carti, and Travis Scott are specifically mentioned in the invoice, and a glance at Wireless Fest’s social media accounts confirms the allegedly “stolen” material.

Wireless is accused of using video from Travis’ cameo appearance at Future’s Rolling Loud Miami 2022 performance in their TikTok and Tweet promoting Travis Scott’s upcoming performance. Lil Durk’s performance at Rolling Loud Miami 2022 is featured in videos for his future performance on IG Reel and TikTok.

Think Rolling Loud is owed a bag? Sound off below.

Toosii Gave The List Of His Favorite Songs At Rolling Loud, And There’s No Surprise As To Who Made The Cut

Toosii is one of the newest rappers dominating social media. Even if you aren’t familiar with his music, you should know his name thanks to Drake’s 2020 track, “Toosie Slide.” Since then, the Syracuse, New York native has dropped his debut studio album, Poetic Pain, and a string of singles, including “Sapiosexual” (watch his UPROXX Sessions performance of the song here).

In a creative industry, it is only natural to pull inspiration from those acts around you. But, when Uproxx’s Cherise Johnson caught up with the entertainer at Rolling Loud California, he wasn’t shy about sharing his unwavering obsession with his own music. When asked about his favorite songs, he named only his past releases instead of naming other musicians. You should expect nothing else from the rapper.

Atop the list is his song, “Favorite Song.” During his performance, the song was clearly beloved by his concertgoing fans as well. Originally released in mid-February, “Favorite Song” debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Rap songs and No. 17 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs charts. Last week (March 4), the song debuted at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Also on the list are his songs “Love Is…” and “Head Over Hills.” Watch the full video above.

2023 Rolling Loud: The Best Performances

The Hollywood Park Grounds in California hosted the largest Hip-Hop festival in the world, Rolling Loud, this past week from March 3-5. The festival was headlined by Playboi Carti, Travis Scott, and Future with Lil Wayne as a special guest. The anticipation for this year’s event was high, as this was the first performance by Travis Scott since his Astroworld concert incident in November of 2021.

Travis Scott

Scott did not disappoint, as his performance on Day 2 of Rolling Loud was one of the highlights of the weekend. The crowd was electric as Scott began his set with “Hold That Heat” and proceeded to play hits such as “Butterfly Effect”, “Way Back”, and “Antidote”. Scott even dug into his mixtape bag, as he performed “Mamacita” from his 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo.

As Scott ended his set with “Sicko Mode”, the sound was cut off abruptly and a message flashed on the screen wishing the audience a good night and safe return home. However, Scott continued rapping while only the house monitors gave off sound. Despite the sudden ending to Scott’s performance, the Rolling Loud audience was overwhelmed with excitement to see the Houston rapper back on stage.

Lil Wayne

Another highlight of the festival was Lil Wayne, as though he was featured as a “special guest”, he performed on his own stage at the same time as Scott. Wayne appeared on stage rocking a pink fur coat as he performed “Blunt Blowin’” with a live drummer. He exclaimed that he was at Rolling Loud on behalf of Young Money Records to a huge ovation from the crowd.

The rapper also brought 2 Chainz on stage to perform their collaborative songs “Rich as Fuck”, “Duffle Bag Boy” and “Watch Out.” However, the surprises were not done there as Nicki Minaj, Wayne’s long time friend and associate, joined Weezy on stage. Minaj and Wayne performed hits that have spanned the last decade such as “Bed Rock”, “Chun-Li”, and “Truffle Butter”. Both Wayne and Minaj showed why they have been on top of the rap game for so long, with Wayne performing around thirty songs, all of which are hits. Wayne finished his set with his classic song “A Milli”.

Playboi Carti

Playboi Carti’s set was cut short due to a rowdy crowd. According to Rolling Loud security, fans of the Atlanta rapper hurdled over the barricades by the stage only three songs into Carti’s set and the “Magnolia” rapper was escorted from the stage and forced to stop performing. After a thirty minute delay, Carti was able to finish his set with his song “Location” from his first, “Self-Titled” album.

Ice Spice

The show also featured a performance from New York rapper Ice Spice to great fan-fare. Over the past few months, Ice Spice has exponentially grown in popularity due to the success of songs such as “Munch” and “Bikini Bottom”. While Ice Spice is relatively new to the Hip-Hop world, her confidence and swagger on stage made for an incredible act. Spice even performed her recently released song “Boy’s a Liar pt. 2” with Pink Pantheress for the first time.

Destroy Lonely

An additional newcomer who showed off their star potential at Rolling Loud was Destroy Lonely. Lonely, an Atlanta rapper signed to Playboi Carti’s “Opium” label, began his set with “If Looks Could Kill”, a song he released only days before on March 3rd. However, an unofficial leak of the song surfaced the internet months before, so its live debut was one of the highlights of the entire festival for many members of the audience. Lonely arrived on stage in all black, a now trademarked look of the “Opium” label, and the crowd showed its mark of approval for Lonely throughout his entire set, as they sang along to the majority of his songs. Lonely also performed hits such as “Neverever”, “VTMNTSCOAT”, and “Bane” and ended his set with probably his most popular song “NOSTYLIST”.

Lil Uzi Vert

Along with many relative newcomers, fan favorites of the Hip-Hop world such as Lil Uzi Vert also performed at the California show. Uzi entered on-stage in an all-red suit and a new hairstyle which was reminiscent of many punk-rockers from the late 1990’s to the early 2000’s. The Philadelphia native previewed three new songs during his set while also playing many of his hits such as “Money Longer”, “XO TOUR Llif3”, and “20 Min”.

However, the highlight of Uzi’s entire set was his performance of “Just Wanna Rock”. He even played it twice. While Lil Uzi Vert’s last solo full-length album, “Eternal Atake” dates back to 2020, it is apparent that fans around the world are eager for more from the Philadelphia rapper.

Lil Baby

A staple of Rolling Loud, Lil Baby, also performed at the California show, and as per usual, his set was one of the standouts from the entire event. The Atlanta rapper has cemented himself as one of the most popular artists in the country over the past few years and his performance here showed why that is the case. Baby began his set with a cover of his song with Drake, “Wants and Needs”. The rapper then displayed just how many hits he has accrued over the past five years as he played songs such as “We Paid”, “Drip Too Hard”, and “Pure Cocaine”. He finished his set with “Freestyle”, which was obviously a crowd favorite, as the entirety of Hollywood Park Grounds rapped alongside Baby word for word.

Rolling Loud 2023 provided all Hip-Hop fans in attendance an incredible weekend, as the hottest rappers of today all arrived with the intention of giving California a show they would not forget. Rolling Loud showed why they are the largest Hip-Hop festival in the world as both upcoming artists and icons of the industry took the stage in Hollywood Park Grounds. The next Rolling Loud event will take place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida on July 21st of this year.

Crowd Chants “F*ck Hailey” During Justin Bieber’s Rolling Loud Appearance

Fans chanted “Fuck Hailey” during Justin Bieber’s surprise performance with Don Toliver at Rolling Loud, earlier this week. The incident comes amid ongoing drama between Hailey and Justin’s ex, Selena Gomez. Neither Justin nor Hailey has commented on hearing the chants from the show.

The Rolling Loud appearance comes just days after Selena Gomez called on fans to respect the mental health of others and “be kinder.” “Thank you and love you all so much. I’m deeply grateful for each and every one of you humans. You make me unbelievably happy,” she wrote on TikTok over the weekend. “Please, please be kinder and consider others mental health. My heart has been heavy and I only want good for everyone. All my love.”

As for how they’ve been handling it, a source for Us Weekly says that Justin’s been supportive of his wife throughout the drama. “Justin has been an amazing support system for Hailey throughout all this. He knows how happy Hailey felt after she and Selena made amends and thought they had put this all behind them,” the source said. They added that Hailey’s “been leaning on Justin and knows he has her back no matter what. Their marriage is stronger than ever, and it’s challenging times like this that only strengthen their bond.”

Last month, Gomez admitted that she was considering quitting social media and wanting to take a break from the spotlight. “I’m very happy. I’m so blessed. I have the best friends, the best fans in the whole world and I just couldn’t be happier. I’m good,” Gomez said at the time. “I love the way I am I don’t care, I’m big, I’m not, I don’t care. I love who I am. And yeah, I’m gonna be taking a second from social media, because this is a little silly, and I’m 30, I’m too old for this, so…but I love you guys so much! And I will see you guys sooner than later, I just… I’m just gonna just take a break from everything.”

City Girls’ Awkward Rolling Loud Interviewer Responds To Backlash: “I STILL GOT PAID”

Rolling Loud California is over for another season, but the internet isn’t quite done talking about the hip-hop festival yet. Praise is continuing to pour in for 23-year-old Ice Spice, who brought in one of the biggest audiences of the weekend for her set, and plenty of other female artists showed their stuff too. Among them were Nicki Minaj, who made a surprise visit during Lil Wayne’s stage time, and the City Girls, who debuted a new song while they were performing.

“Piñata” is the title of the unreleased single. We have no official premiere date as of now. Still, Yung Miami previously said that new music from her and JT is coming sometime this spring and/or summer. As they put on a show, rapping old favourites from their discography, as well as more recent arrivals, the City Girls reminded audiences exactly why they love them. From their curve-hugging, coordinated outfits to the sheer excitement of securing the bag at Rolling Loud beside their best friend, the partners in rhyme looked as though nothing could ruin their mood last weekend.

City Girls Take Rolling Loud California 2023

Unfortunately, that energy didn’t last long. At one point during the festival, Caresha and Jatavia spoke with media personality Tamera Kissen, and needless to say, the interview was nothing short of unprofessional. In a clip that’s been circulating online, the host and Yung Miami go back and forth about previously linking up at an event while JT awkwardly watches on. By the time the City Girls start answering questions, things only become more embarrassing to take in.

“Did you know it’s the 50th day of hip-hop today?” Kissed asked. “No,” the REVOLT podcast host responded. “Me neither, they told me to talk about it,” the host said, obnoxiously laughing. Shortly after, she began pressing the City Girls for details on when they “last let a broke dude hit,” among other uncomfortable topics. As the video continues to circulate online, plenty of backlash is pouring in for the interviewer. At the same time, the “Twerkulator” artists are hearing praise for pushing through the weird moment.

Tamera Kissen Responds to Backlash

On her Twitter page, Kissen has had plenty to say about her chat with the City Girls. “The community really don’t f*ck with you if you ain’t full Black, let’s just be honest,” she vented online. In response, another user wrote, “No baby, it was just a really bad interview. Like… horrific. Nothing to do with race, learn and grow.” Not letting the haters get her down, the 28-year-old continued to rant about the situation in another series of tweets.

“Some FYI: When footage is raw and unedited like that and people throw things at you last min as an interviewer it’s because someone on the job doesn’t want you to do good. Nothing I haven’t dealt [with] before,” she began. “Shit really ain’t that serious. The girls that don’t like me all look the saaaaaaaaaame.” Kissen went on to compare the industry to being back in high school before reminding followers that “at the end of the day, [SHE] STILL GOT PAID.” Let us know what you thought of the City Girls’ awkward Rolling Loud interview below, and check back later for more pop culture news.
