Roddy Ricch Delivers A Sultry Dose Of Reassurance To His Partner On ‘Late At Night’

Roddy Ricch released his debut album, Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial at the end of 2019, and the year that followed from the Compton rapper proved that the project’s title was a real-life sentiment for him. Roddy’s appearances in the public were limited, and unlike the crop of trap artists he calls contemporaries, he opted to keep his musical releases limited as well. Since Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial, we’ve only received a handful of features from the Compton native. The dry spell ends tonight as Roddy returns with his latest single, “Late At Night.”

The new song finds Roddy extending his and Mustard’s list of strong rapper-producer collaborations. “Late At Night” fits in the laid-back and uniquely romantic side of the rapper’s catalog, a section that also features fan favorites from Roddy like “High Fashion” and “Bacc Seat,” the former which was also produced by Mustard. “Late At Night” arrives with a video that sees Roddy return home in hopes of recording new music, but he’s quickly distracted by a mysterious Ferris wheel that appears in his backyard. He boards the carnival ride and ends up at a throwback party that leads to a “Thriller”-esque ending.

Back in August, Roddy told fans during an Instagram livestream that his sophomore album would arrive “soon as f*ck.” While ten months is pushing the limits of the word “soon,” even the way the music industry uses it, that time frame seems more appropriate now than it did back in August. As for a name, Roddy’s next project is reportedly titled Love Is Barely Real Anymore, which appears to be the rapper’s own acronym for L.I.B.R.A., his astrology sign.

Roddy Ricch Announces The Release Date For His Return To Music

After taking over early 2020 with his breakout Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial single “The Box” and contributing a verse to DaBaby’s Grammy-nominated, No. 1 hit single “Rockstar,” Compton rapper Roddy Ricch spent much of the past year lying low as he worked on the follow-up to his debut album. Aside from popping up in a few interviews to call the upcoming release a “masterpiece” and say it was coming “soon as f*ck” (a relative qualifier if ever there was one), there hasn’t been much information about the new project.

That changed today with Roddy’s return to social media. Posting a brand new photo to his recently-cleared Instagram, Roddy finally offered the first indication that his sophomore album may well be on the way. Scrolling through a couple of slides, you’ll see what is presumably the single cover for a new song titled “Late At Night,” while the caption reads “6/4 freaky friday.” While there still isn’t much other information about the upcoming release, it’s certainly nice to know that the Compton native has new music on the way. To hear some of his guest features over the past few months, check out 42 Dugg’s “4 Da Gang” video, DJ Khaled’s “Body In Motion” video, and Birdman’s “Stunnaman,” on which the Cash Money CEO also reunites with Lil Wayne.

Birdman And Lil Wayne Add To Their Long List Of Collaborations With ‘Stunnaman’ Featuring Roddy Ricch

Birdman and Lil Wayne were once an inseparable duo in the hip-hop world. From the early Cash Money days of the late 1990s and early 2000s to the eventual Young Money days of the early 2010s, the Louisiana rappers were side by side through it all. Things would go left from 2014 to 2018 as Wayne and Birdman engaged in a lengthy battle over the delayed release of the former’s album, Tha Carter V. While the matter was settled in court, their relationship didn’t so much return to what it once was. That could change as the pair joined forces for a new track.

The rappers re-sparked their chemistry on “Stunnaman” with Roddy Ricch. It’s the first track Birdman and Lil Wayne have worked on together since 2019’s “Ride Dat” which also featured Juvenile. Today’s new track is a boastful effort that sees each rapper laying confident verses of their own. The single also proves that Birdman and Wayne haven’t let their past differences stop them from making good music together.

As for Roddy Ricch, the track is the latest guest feature that the Compton rapper has delivered as he recently joined DJ Khaled for “Body In Motion” with Lil Baby and Bryson Tiller and 42 Dugg on “4 Da Gang.”

DJ Khaled, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, And Bryson Tiller Throw A Party On A Yacht In Their Video For ‘Body Motion’

DJ Khaled released this 12th album, Khaled Khaled, two weeks ago, but he’s already released six videos from it. They include “Sorry Not Sorry” with Jay-Z and Nas, “We Going Crazy” with HER and Migos, “Let It Go” with Justin Bieber and 21 Savage, and more. For his latest, “Body in Motion,” he connects with Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, and Bryson Tiller for a lively video that shows the quartet having the time of their lives while partying on a yacht with a sizeable cast of women.

The new video arrives as each of the song’s guest acts continue work on forthcoming projects. Lil Baby is set to release his joint project, Voice Of The Heroes, with Lil Durk in the coming weeks. The duo planned to drop it on May 28 but decided to push it back out of respect for DMX, whose posthumous album, Exodus, will be released that day. Roddy Ricch is currently hard at work on his sophomore album, which is rumored to be titled Love Is Barely Real Anymore, while Bryson Tiller will release his long-awaited album, Serenity, at some point in the coming months.
