Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle, and young Broadway actor Chase Infiniti were also added to the cast, which already included Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall. Licorice Pizza co-producers Sara Murphy and Adam Somner are again co-producing here along with Thomas, who also wrote the script.
Taylor’s other recent films include Hulu’s White Men Can’t Jump remake with Jack Harlow and the crticially acclaimed A Thousand And One, which holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 85% audience score. It looks like she’s certainly receiving the recognition in acting that she felt she wasn’t getting in music, which is both heartening (yay for recognition) and disappointing (she should have been praised before this).
Meanwhile, Alana and her sisters spent most of last year enjoying their leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour. Unfortunately, Haim has also had to face an unfair share of musical criticism, repeatedly refuting misogynistic claims that they don’t play their instruments live. Fortunately, no one can say Alana isn’t acting for herself when she appears in the film, which is already in production.
Regina Hall is starting 2024 off with a bang. As first reported by Deadline, she will be starring alongside Oscar Winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn in an upcoming untitled film directed by Academy Award-nominated director Paul Thomas Anderson.
Although the film’s premise is unknown at this point, this is bound to be a huge artistic and commercial project with this announced package.
Production is set for this year in California from a screenplay written by Anderson. On deck to produce are Sara Murphy and Adam Somner, best known as Anderson’s producing partners from his critically acclaimed 2021 feature, Licorice Pizza.
Deadline did say, “We have learned that it is a contemporary setting and it is the most commercial one PTA has attempted, with commensurate budget. “
Even with this A-list topline, the project is being positioned as an ensemble cast with more big names to come. Hall most recently was on Peacock’s The Best Man: The Final Chapters, a franchise she has been a part of since the first feature installment directed by Malcolm D. Lee. The actress was also in the much-acclaimed Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul. Expect to see Hall broaden her talents in the upcoming Searchlight rock opera film Odessa. Here, she’ll play opposite Kelvin Harrison Jr., Murray Bartlett, and Sadie Sink.
Regina Hall has long been a top star in the entertainment industry, captivating fans of all ages with her effervescent energy and tremendous talent. Though she is best known for her comedic roles, her versatility confirms her excellence in both comedy and drama. The Washington, D.C. native studied English literature, then earned a Master’s degree in journalism from New York University.
Tragically, the sudden death of her father propelled her to pursue her passion for acting. Her impressive start was on Fox’s New York Undercover in 1997, then reached iconic status with the launch of the popular movie franchise Scary Movie. As time passed, she adopted multiple roles showcasing her capability to transcend comedic and dramatic stereotypes. The Academy Awards selected Hall as one of the three hosts for 2022, along with Wanda Sykes and Amy Schumer. Here is a glance at some of Regina Hall’s funniest performances.
1. The Best Man (1999)
Hall wasn’t a child star or had any experience in the acting world. Then, near her 30th birthday, she snatched her role as a stripper. The film was a high-spirited drama about college friends who reunited for a wedding. Hall’s Candy was a tiny part, but the actress radiated that immediate spark of charisma. The sequel was made over a decade later. It granted Hall a more substantial presence, playing a school headmaster carrying her past. A performer rarely nails it the first time. Yet, Hall nailed it on both occasions – returning triumphantly for the festive sequel.
2. Girls Trip (2017)
Regina Hall leads the cast of Girls Trip, a summer blockbuster that pays homage to female friendship. Her co-stars, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Tiffany Haddish, join her in New Orleans for the Essence Music Festival. Hall further anchors the movie with her hilarious comedy, powerful drama, and captivating presence. Haddish, Smith, and Latifah also extend their brilliance to make this one of the year’s finest films.
3. Think Like A Man (2012)
In the early 2000s, Hall worked diligently in Hollywood, featuring in Scary Movie and undertaking unbilled roles in movies such as Law Abiding Citizen and Death at a Funeral. Her hard graft eventually paid off in 2012 when she was cast in the star-studded movie Think Like a Man. Adapted from Steve Harvey’s renowned tome about relationships, this entertaining movie follows four men coming to terms with their partners using his advice against them. Starring Taraji P. Henson, Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart (in one of the most iconic roles of his career), and Gabrielle Union, this critically-acclaimed film indeed delights viewers. Exuding charisma and comedy, Regina Hall plays a lovable single mom connected to a ‘mama’s boy,’ standing out among the rest of the talented cast.
4. About Last Night (2014)
Starring Kevin Hart, Regina Hall, and Michael Ealy, the 2014 romantic comedy About Last Night is ideal for an enjoyable night with someone special. Boasting all the classic elements of the genre with plenty of lighthearted moments and laughter, the film follows Bernie (Hart) and Denny (Ealy), two salesmen and best friends who embark on a double date with Bernie’s fling (Hall) and her friend (Joy Bryant). As sparks fly between them, it soon becomes evident that this is no ordinary evening. Treat your special someone to this heartwarming rom-com – you won’t regret it.
5. Support The Girls (2018)
Regina Hall shines as Lisa, an unwavering manager of Double Whammies. This is a restaurant reminiscent of the well-known chain Hooter’s. Unceasingly fighting for her female colleagues against exploitation and objectification, Lisa faces continual retaliation from her boss. In Support the Girls, the staff’s arrangement of a car wash fundraiser puts Lisa’s resourcefulness to the test, resulting in a complex mess. Highly lauded with Hall receiving the unprecedented New York Critics Circle Award for Best Actress, this moving, captivating comedy merits every moment of your attention.
6. People Places Things (2015)
Regina Hall blossomed into the lauded indie dramedy actor we know today with her role in the Sundance film featuring Jermaine Clement. She embodied a recently divorced graphic novelist’s love interest, who just so happened to be the single mother of one of his art students. Hall radiates charm while also venturing into more thoughtful territory as she deals with her grief and Clement’s relationship with his ex. While this wasn’t quite a leading role for her yet, she still showcased her ability to tackle parts outside of an ensemble cast.
7. Little (2019)
Jordan (Regina Hall), a boss known for her abrasive demeanor, learns the hard way after a kid with a magic wand turns her back into a youngster. Hall delivers comedic lines with an undeniable force, despite mainly being featured at the start and end of the movie. In every moment that she appears onscreen, it’s clear that Jordan takes no prisoners in her unyielding and outspoken nature. Marsai Martin fills in as the younger version of Jordan, displaying the same level of wit and sass as Hall.
8. The Best Man Holiday (2013)
On their way to the holidays, a group of old college pals reunites again. Revisiting the beloved characters from The Best Man fourteen years later, viewers will witness them in more refined states as they grapple with new tensions, rivalries, and laughs. The joyous Christmas movie even received a nomination at the NAACP Awards, highlighting the power of successfully executing sequels. Hall returns as Candace, Julian’s spouse, inciting a dramatic conflict.
It’s been 6 years since Girls Trip hit theaters, and fans are eager to see the sequel. However, they may not be as eager to see it as Regina Hall. Hall recently did an interview with PEOPLE about her partnership with Jameson Irish Whiskey. Her partnership comes just in time for St. Patrick’s day. However, in the interview, Girls Trip inevitably came up. She says the film’s long-awaited sequel was initially delayed because the cast and crew of the film were “busy.” “So then,” she continued, “when you lock in the time — when you’re like, ‘Oh, we can do it now’ — [the COVID-19] pandemic comes. And then it’s like, ‘Well, we’ve got to wait.’”
Hall insists that people were waiting for things to calm down professionally before the pandemic hit. Then, they would do a sequel “if it made sense.” She added, “Because that whole film is about friendship and celebration.” The hit comedy film starred Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffany Haddish with Hall as four college friends. The quad travels to New Orleans for Essence Music Festival to reignite their friendship years after they graduated.
Regina Hall For “Girls Trip”
Tracy Oliver, the film’s co-screenwriter, told Variety at the Sundance Film Festival in January that the upcoming sequel will take place in Ghana during the Afrochella music festival. Hall says that she found this out “in real-time with everyone else.” When discussing it, Hall said she’s assuming that will be fun. She said, “I’m excited to see the girls again and to make something hopefully that the fans love.” She added, “I think the biggest thing is we had so much fun making the first one, and I just look forward to just having that kind of fun again and that audiences will hopefully love it as well.” Additionally, Hall says that one of the complications that COVID-19 caused is that “You can’t have a film that interactive in the middle of a pandemic. It’s about being out and about. So I think that kind of changed it too.”
Furthermore, Will Packer, producer of Girls Trip, announced that the sequel was in the works during an appearance on Good Morning America last January. Packer told Good Morning America host, Michael Strahan, “Can’t we all use a post-pandemic trip, my friend? I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway. We are absolutely in the stages, the ladies are in, I just talked to the director.”
Girls Trip 2 is officially happening. Producers Tracy Oliver and Will Packer confirmed the sequel would include the original cast, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall, and Tiffany Haddish. Girls Trip 2 with the entire “flossy posse” is officially underway. According to the writer, director, and producer Tracey Oliver, the film will include the […]

In some circles, Atlanta rap group Crime Mob‘s 2004 hit “Knuck If You Buck” goes beyond just being a cultural touchstone. As Charlamagne Tha God recently put it during an interview with Regina Hall about her new movie Honk For Jesus, it’s damn near a “Negro spiritual.” The song came up in the course of the conversation because Hall’s character quotes it in the movie, leading to Hall admitting that she hadn’t heard it before she had to learn the lyrics for one of the film’s awkward-funny gags. This naturally led to some consternation among the Breakfast Club crew, prompting Hall to defend herself.
“I’m highly disappointed that you and Sterling K. Brown had to learn the words to the Negro spiritual, ‘Knuck If You Buck,’” Charlamagne joked. “You’re Black, Regina Hall!” Hall chuckled as she agreed, “It’s embarrassing! That’s what I found out!” She goes on to explain that she was in LA, not her hometown, DC, when the song came out (“It was in LA too!” CTG protests), and that it was a club hit, which is why she didn’t hear it. As she self-deprecatingly jests, “The club days ended so early for me.” When Charlamagne notes that the song is “18 years old,” Hall replies, “It was over by then!” She also explains how it took her a few days to learn Princess’ rhymes (the best part, as acknowledged by the interview crew), and laughed that Issa Rae would be disappointed in her, too.
Regina Hall talks about how she and costar Sterling K. Brown never heard “Knuck if you buck” until she had to recite it in her latest film “Honk for Jesus” on @peacockTVpic.twitter.com/11qYAAL2iy
At least, for Regina’s sake, she proved she remembers the lyrics to Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up” and Lil Jon’s “Get Low,” or she would have been in danger of getting her Black Card revoked. You can check out the full interview up top.
Regina Hall has been quite active since we saw her co-hosting the 2022 Oscars. Her latest project is the comedy/satire Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul, (Sept. 2 on Peacock), which premieres in theaters this weekend. The 51-year-old comedian, plays Trinitie Childs, the first lady of a megachurch, who’s husband is Sterling K. Brown, who plays pastor Lee-Curtis Childs. Hall’s character supports her husband and the church as they rebrand after being involved in a scandal that upsets their congregation.
The famed actor and director who is known for her roles in Black Monday, Girls Trip, the Best Man and cult classic Scary Movie franchise recently partnered with CÎROC for #CIROCStands for Black Businesses at the 20th annual Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival. A mission that highlights effort and ongoing commitment to celebrate the powerful voices and people within the Black community that are depicting excellence and igniting change.
The DC native and Me Time (Aug. 26 on Netflix), cast member who also stars in the limited series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters (Dec. 22 on Peacock), spoke with Kim SoMajor of The Source and dished on her new partnership with #CIROCStands, having ownership in Hollywood, starting her production company Rh Negative and more.
What sparked you to take on your latest film project, “Honk for Jesus. Save YourSoul.”
I really enjoyed the script when I read it and then I met with Adamma and Adanne and although they were young, I had seen their short film and knew they had a vision for what they had in mind. I hadn’t worked with Sterling before so when he joined, I was excited to work with him and couldn’t imagine creating these characters with anyone else.
What’s your role and intention set to accomplish with your partnership with CÎROC?
As a Black woman, I of course support female, Black owned businesses which is part of why I appreciate what #CIROCStands is accomplishing for the community. It’s that shared mission that drew me to them. Being at Martha’s Vineyard and being on a panel with such amazing women was truly inspiring. There’s such a rich history and roots in the culture there and I loved celebrating that!
How does the association align with everything that you’re doing as a businesswoman?
Like #CIROCStands, I believe it’s important to highlight people of different backgrounds. There are smart, talented people from varied pasts and to find them and give them a space to create and tell really good stories is part of why I was inspired to start producing.
As a business owner, starting Rh Negative production company- What has been adefinitive moment for you that reaffirmed that you made the right move in launching?
Producing is a process that involves many people and I love the sense of collaboration involved in developing a project from beginning to end. It brings me joy every time I’m able to facilitate the success of a project and enable other people’s dreams coming true.
With your production company, you are providing an opportunity for many creatives. How important is it for black women to have ownership in Hollywood or entertainment ingeneral?
We live in a diverse world and it’s important that diversity be seen on screen, which means it must exist behind the scenes. Everyone has different life experiences, and that varied history creates well-informed decisions that positively influence each project and inherently the industry as a whole.
How did you know that was the next move for you?
I’ve wanted to produce for several years. I felt like I had worked and gotten to a place where I had enough knowledge to be able to produce. It wasn’t an overnight thing, despite what people think, it took years, hard work, and a will for it to happen.
Can you share 5 tips on balancing asuccessful entrepreneurial lifestyle and home life of wellness?
More of a balance is always the goal, although it’s not always easy. I would say what helps me is good friends, an incredible team, fun, rest, and a quiet place where my imagination can roam.
What’s in store for you in the last quarter of 2022?
We’re of course excited for Honk for Jesus to be released and then we have TheBest Man coming out just in time for the holidays! Then a few other things that are soon to be announced. I work with two organizations called Scleroderma Research Foundation and Solutions Project and hope to partner with them on a few things too.
