Is HBO’s “The Idol” Worth The Hype? Twitter Sounds Off On The Weeknd’s New Show

The criticism surrounding HBO’s The Idol was loud, even before it debuted at the Cannes Film Festival. And the show’s debut seemingly reinforced it for audiences. Although fans were understandably excited for the all-star cast, including The Weeknd as Tedros and Lily Rose-Depp as Jocelyn, the absurdity of the show hasn’t necessarily won fans over just yet. The Sam Levinson-co-created endeavor finds Jocelyn attempting to repair her image after a mental breakdown before being swooped into Tedros’ cult-like world.

The first episode of the show debuted on HBO on Sunday night, leading to plenty of mixed reactions from fans. Some feel as though it’s an excellent debut that will have them returning week after week while others have sided with critics. Plus, many felt some type of way after it replaced Succession on HBO’s weekly scheduled. “oh the idol is BAD bad i cannot believe this monstrosity is replacing succession sunday,” one fan wrote on Twitter following The Idol’s debut.

HBO’s The Idol Mixed Reviews

Besides the premise of the show being incredulous on its own, the actual acting was a point of critique among many viewers. Between The Weeknd’s hairstyle and his general acting chops, fans were quite disappointed in what he had to offer on screen. Evidently, he’s a far better musician than he is an actor. However, BLACKPINK’s Jennie Kim earned unanimous applause for her efforts in the series, specifically her dance break.

Overall, it seems like The Idol will continue to draw reactions episode after episode, even if people aren’t entirely enthusiastic about the first episode. The Weeknd’s formal foray into the world of television is undoubtedly controversial and polarizing but it seems like it’s an interesting starting point for what could be the next chapter in his career. After formally changing his stage name to Abel, perhaps, he has more television scripts in store for the future.

Pop Smoke Mural Gets Roasted Online

Years after his untimely death, Pop Smoke’s legacy continues to loom large over the hip-hop world. However, not every attempt to immortalize and celebrate his memory has gone over particularly well. On one hand, some people disrespectfully vandalized The Woo’s mural last December to many’s outrage. Still, a new mural has people feeling heated for other, albeit much less overtly disrespectful reasons. On Monday (April 17), an unknown mural made rounds on social media, for which people don’t know the location, artist, or if it was even meant to resemble Pop. However, the details certainly match up, even if many fans think it looks nothing like the rapper.

Of course, Twitter had a field day reacting to this news, either making jokes about it or expressing straight up disgust. Still, since it’s unclear where this mural is, it’s not like people can go out and ask around its location to see who could explain some more. Despite the confusion, it looks to be inside a store, so take that hint and run with it if you’re in the New York area. Also, this news comes shortly after a suspect in his murder pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and received a sentence of four years and two months in juvenile detention.

Pop Smoke Mural Gets Blasted Online

Even though this mural isn’t the best look for Pop Smoke’s legacy, given that his fans seem to hate it, the New York legend lives on in many other ways. One of those is his strong connections to other heavy-hitters in the industry who tell stories of what a pleasure he was to work with. “I f***ed with Pop Smoke and the whole Drill sound,” Polo G said on the Full Send podcast. “You know, coming from Chicago, that’s where that s**t started at. So, I really tapped into they s**t. I hit up Pop like, ‘Yo, let’s do this.’ He had been hitting me up in the past, but before I knew who he was. And then, when I seen they wave going strong, I hit him like, ‘Yo, I f**k with y’all s**t. Let’s do something.’” Polo was asked if he worked with Pop in the studio.

“The craziest thing, I worked with him right before he passed,” he continued. “I was in the studio with him. He said he was leaving to L.A. I stayed in New York an extra day to make sure Fivio [Foreign] laid his verse [for ‘Clueless’]. And Pop, a contact was telling me Pop wanted to get in the stu in L.A. the night he passed. ‘Cause I live there, he live there. We was supposed to get up.” Furthermore, he shared that Pop Smoke asked Polo for the name of a popular Chicago spot to shout out in his verse, and he did exactly that. Check out reactions to the controversial Pop Smoke mural below and return to HNHH for more on the late legend’s legacy.

Doja Cat Gets Love For Her Rapping Skills On SZA’s “Kill Bill” Remix

Doja Cat’s not one to play with, and that’s exactly what she proved to many fans on her remix of “Kill Bill” by SZA. Moreover, the recently released reimagining caught a lot of people’s ears on social media, and it was all for the Los Angeles native’s impressive bars. Not only did she fit the track’s lyrical and thematic focus, but she came through with the speed and internal rhymes of a classic boom-bap MC. Of course, it should come as no surprise that Doja stunned, whether because of her catalog or her eclectic set of influences. Regardless, people ate it up.

“Doja told a story!” an impassioned fan wrote on Twitter shortly after the song’s release. “Her verse gave mentally unstable ex out for revenge and the calm delivery of her rapping adds to that effect. Her storytelling was outstanding and really painted a picture to the listeners while staying on topic. She’s really got IT.” Along with this tweet came many others that praised Doja Cat’s performance alongside SZA’s beautiful melodies. For both artists, who brought us the massive hit “Kiss Me More,” it shows the boundless extent of their chemistry.

Doja Cat Wows Fans With “Kill Bill” Remix

As far as Doja Cat’s next moves, she gave a range of more sincere and cheeky updates on her upcoming album, presumably titled Hellmouth. “If you wanted a teaser into what I’ve been thinking about, that’s what I’ve been on a lot,” she revealed. “And just to make it clear, Beastie Boys is a huge inspiration to me. Beastie Boys will hit you with hard, loud and crazy rap, but they’ll also hit you with real raw 90s punk, which I love, or smooth techno that feels sexy and sleek. And you’ll be like, ‘Where the f**k did this come from?” She also spoke on pulling from more genre-bending influences like Death Grips and German rave music.

However, those hints also come with admissions of her artistic reservations and some funny digs at fans over-speculating. “I also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny,” she noted on social media. “I know they are, I wasn’t trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing y’all say that I can’t, so I will.” In another message, she tried to play with fans a bit more. “The whole album is no longer rap y’all,” the 27-year-old expressed. “It’s rock/spoken work and the album title is not ‘Hellmouth’ anymore… a French conceptual experimental country/bohemian fusion with the essence of blue-grass.” Well, fans will see what happens. Stick around on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Doja Cat. Also, check out more reactions to her “Kill Bill” remix down below.

Ally Lotti Shocks Fans With Unrecognizable New Look

There has been a lot of drama surrounding Juice WRLD’s ex-girlfriend, Ally Lotti as of late. Just a few months ago, Lotti was arrested for drug possession and theft. Although she was able to post bond, she did have to go into a plea deal. Overall, it was bad news, especially when you consider her erratic behavior on social media. Fans have expressed their concerns for Lotti, however, they have mostly gone ignored. Needless to say, no one knows what she is dealing with right now.

Of course, Lotti was with Juice WRLD at the time of his passing back in 2019. One can imagine what kind of toll this took on her and her mental health. Subsequently, after his passing, Lotti made sure to honor Juice in any way she could. However, there were certainly sections of his fanbase who thought she was chasing clout. It was an unfair assessment that could certainly have done more damage to the grieving process. Additionally, there is now a sense that things have taken an especially difficult toll on Ally Lotti as her most recent selfie reveals an unrecognizable new look.

Ally Lotti Shows Off New Look

In the photo below, reposted by DJ Akademiks, you can see that Lotti has dyed her hair purple and brown. Overall, her hair used to be blonde, and much longer. Moreover, her facial features seem much different than before. Fans could barely even recognize her, which led to various comments underneath Akademiks’ post. Unfortunately, some people decided to treat Lotti with cruelty as opposed to charitability. There is no telling where her mental health is at, however, she still opted to share her new look with everyone. Needless to say, she has nothing to hide.

Hopefully, Ally Lotti is getting the help and support she needs during this difficult stretch. The internet can be a very cruel place, and if anyone understands that, it would have to be her. This is especially true when you are the former partner of an incredibly beloved artist. Be sure to keep it locked to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the music world.

Lil Woody’s Alleged Snitch Video Drives Social Media Crazy

Social media ran rampant with debates after YSL affiliate Lil Woody snitched on Young Thug and YFN Lucci’s camps in a newly surfaced video. Moreover, even though the full situation isn’t clear, he made a lot of confessions in the three-hour clip. For example, he alluded to the fact that somebody plotted to carry a hit out that night, possibly from Thug to Lucci. As two lawyers try to get more information throughout, many claimed that his actions could get him and his family hurt. However, even with all fire coming his way, Woody took to Instagram to share his perspective from jail.

“I sat in jail days nights months years didn’t know my outcome didn’t call on god didn’t cry or cooperate,” he wrote. “I started working on understanding myself realizing who I am and what I’m worth. Jail gave me time to think grow and understand only point I have to prove is showing my people that whatever we put out mind to we can do it. Stay away from bad energy focus and believe in yourself.”

Meanwhile, many on social media weren’t buying his claims. “YSL woody really got on instagram and acted like he didn’t cooperate after 3 hrs of snitching,” one user commented. “That YSL Woody footage is truly f***ing disgusting,” another wrote on Twitter. “But hopefully a wake up call for cats moving reckless out here. It be your own people every time.” Also, another tweeter brought up how these allegations could be frankly dangerous for the informant. “I don’t care what the situation is, but y’all better learn to shut the f**k up,” they mentioned. “Until you got an attorney with you when you’re being interrogated, or even arrested for that matter.”

“I don’t fw ysl’s crimes,” they continued. “Ion even like thugger’s music, but the police is gonna get woody or his fam hurt.” Still, others weren’t as considerate with their takes. “NO WAY YSL Lil Woody got a THREE HOUR video of him snitching,” someone wrote on social media. “It ain’t even take that long to part the red sea. What secrets was you giving to them? The Krabby Patty formula???” Regardless of what you think on Woody’s case, stick around on HNHH for the latest news on YSL, Young Thug, and YFN Lucci.

Iggy Azalea Calls Out Playboi Carti, Fans React

Iggy Azalea says that she “warned” fans about Playboi Carti after the rapper was arrested for allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend. The two had been in an argument about a paternity test when the woman says Carti grabbed her by her throat and pushed her. Iggy Azalea, who dated Carti from 2018 through 2019, previously claimed that he cheated on her and missed their son’s birth.

“Been there. Done that. Warned you,” Azalea wrote in her first post. She later added in another: “Imagine having a pregnant girlfriend and pretending they don’t exist until it comes out you like to abuse them too – & rarely visiting your actual son unless is because you’re running from whatever problems ya got going on in Atlanta & the press with your serial abuse of woman.”

Iggy Azalea’s Posts

Azalea’s posts prompted Carti fans to flood into her replies to defend their favorite artist. “HE LIVES IN YOUR HEAD RENT FREE,” one user wrote. Another implied Azalea is a hypocrite for working with Tory Lanez in the past. “Talking about abusers like you wasn’t just ready let tory lanez produce ya album before he got put in all orange and cuffs is wild,” they argued.

Despite the negative response from Carti fans, many of Azalea’s own supporters defended her in the replies as well. “Were his fans waiting on you to post about this???” one said. “Why they all In the comments defending him???? Get a job.” Another admitted: “I’m a huge Carti fan but this really shocked me and I’m disappointed in him. You can’t defend something like that.”

Other users criticized Azalea for being on the platform OnlyFans. The Australian rapper joined the platform, last month, for her ongoing Hotter Than Hell multimedia project. On the site, she posts photos, videos, music, illustrations, and poetry. The project is expected to build up to the release of her untitled fourth studio album, which will release in the summer. Subscriptions to Azalea’s OnlyFans page cost $25 per month. Check out the responses to Azalea’s post regarding Playboi Carti below.

Travis Barker’s Daughter Alabama Goes Viral For New Video

Alabama Barker, daughter of pop-punk star Travis Barker, is going viral on social media for a new video shared to TikTok. While this might be the first time some hear of her, others remember when she was much younger. Still, her clip did cause some discussion online.

Moreover, a lot of the meat of the Twitter threads came down to the fact that she’s 17 years old. Though the video clip is just her dancing with her friends, a lot of people found it too suggestive. Regardless, one user tweeted “No one ever said Alabama Barker was ‘ugly.’” Furthermore, they added, “We said she’s only 17 and too young to dress & behave the way she does. Cause she is.”

Furthermore, some were struck by how people were misidentifying her race or debating about it on social media. Still, some people had the record straight. Overall, there were tweets like “You telling me alabama barker looks biracial and expect me to take you seriously.”

“I want black women to stop being a halfway house for yt teenage girls when they can’t figure themselves out yet,” another added. “Alabama Barker is a prime example. Her family whiter than ranch dressing. Stop it lol.”

However, this isn’t the only time that Alabama Barker’s been somewhat called out online (because this is just a video, after all). Moreover, Iggy Azalea said that she and other TikTokers were “weird” for participating in a viral trend of her experiences. Furthermore, audio of the rapper airing out her frustrations with her ex Playboi Carti made rounds on TikTok.

“This man didn’t even come to see his son be born, he went to Philly to play the Playstation with Lil Uzi,” she said. “He felt that was more important than seeing his son be born, and I had a scheduled C-section.”

Meanwhile, Alabama’s father Travis is most well-known these days for his drum renditions of popular tracks and his relationship with Kourtney Kardashian. While some people cringe at seeing fans write “Kravis” online, they said they actually like the nickname.

Still, what do you think of Travis Barker’s daughter Alabama going viral for her recent TikTok video? However you may feel, let us know in the comments and peep some more reactions below. Also, as always, check back in with HNHH for the latest viral moments and celebrity debates in pop culture.

21 Savage Named Best Rapper Of 2022 By Complex, Fans React

Complex has named 21 Savage the best rapper of 2022, prompting plenty of discussion from fans on social media. In making the decision, the outlet cited his “consistent output, improvement, and evolution of his cadence and wordplay with every verse.”

21 contributed plenty of impressive features throughout the year while also teaming up with Drake for Her Loss. The two dropped the collaborative project back in November.

“I just feel like a lot of people lose their spot trying to take somebody else’s,” 21 told Complex for the piece. “I’d rather just keep [trying to outdo myself] over and over.”

Of Her Loss, 21 added: “I ain’t heard a project like this in a long time, honestly, probably since My Turn. This is like a real album you can ride to from top to bottom, that’s what I was thinking in the club. I just remember feeling proud of him because he put it together the right way, from the tracklist and everything.”

Following the selection, fans debated whether there were better options to choose from.

“So y’all think he’s better then Lil Durk & Uzi wow, that’s crazy…,” one fan wrote.

Another argued: “Music was good but if we talking about RAPPING specifically. No way did y’all listen to that Nas album and said this lol.”

One further complained: “This dude got carried by drake and metro the whole year this is fake.”

Despite the backlash, not all of the responses were as negative. Many others fans supported the decision, labeling it the correct take.

Iggy Azalea’s Fans Voice Disappointment In OnlyFans Content

Many of Iggy Azalea’s fans are voicing their displeasure with the content on the Australian rapper’s OnlyFans page. Azalea joined the platform earlier this month, charging fans $25 a month for exclusive content.

The content includes videos, pictures, illustrations, music, and poetry. According to reports, she brought in upwards of $305K in her first 24 hours on the platform.

“This what y’all paying 25 dollars a month for,” one user commented on Azalea’s latest promotion of the page.

Another wrote: “Sorry Iggy, but charging $100 for a video of you flapping your hair around is insane. Terrible…”

Other users criticized Azalea for previously complaining about OnlyFans and saying she would never join it.

“Hold up but wasn’t you putting down other celebrities for having an OF,” one wrote. “Ohh baby daddy gone now.”

Azalea addressed this hypocrisy in a statement when announcing her presence on the platform. She explained that her position has changed in recent years.

“Admittedly, I never knew OnlyFans was a place where I could be creative, so I didn’t expect to be collaborating with them on my biggest project to date!” Azalea said. “Once I looked beyond the surface-level chatter about what it means to have an OnlyFans, I realized it was the perfect platform to launch a multimedia concept on. I feel excited about not having to worry about the overwhelming and creatively limiting censorship artists have to navigate when sharing work on other digital platforms.”

Azalea plans to debut her fourth studio album on the platform, later this year.
