Gucci Mane’s New 1017 Signee Draws Amused Reactions From Fans

Gucci Mane is quite the visionary, not just in a musical sense, but as a label manager and talent-seeker in his own right. However, not all of his ideas and scouting gets excited reactions on social media; sometimes, people laugh at him seemingly missing the mark. Still, you never know the weight that an artist holds, so perhaps it’s too early to tell if his latest 1017 Records signee will break through. Moreover, Tennessee rapper Brezden is Guwop’s latest protégé, as the legendary trap MC announced on Tuesday (August 22). In a clip, he christens the up-and-comer with a 1017 chain.

“Y’all welcome my new artist @brezdn to #TheNew1017 this MF so hard !!!!!!!” Gucci Mane wrote in his caption. “Y’all go follow him!! Click link in bio to hear his new song WHITE FERRARI.” “Shoutout to @laflare1017 for this life changing opportunity,” Brezden added in his repost of the video on social media. “It’s time to take over.” Given the type of music he makes and, frankly, his looks, the new artist got a lot of comparisons to Jack Harlow and was nicknamed “Kodak White” on social media.

Gucci Mane Welcomes Tennessee Rapper To 1017

“Stole this man swag,” one user wrote with a GIF of Napoleon Dynamite. “Why do white rappers these days sound like they wanna be black? Its false but I guess Gucci Mane is cool with that,” another wrote more seriously. Still, for as many jokes as people made about him, there were plenty of supporters looking forward to more from Brezden. “Idk he kinda slid on this one,” one user commented on Twitter, with another adding “Ngl I thought he was wack until I heard that You are an L like a website(URL) that was a [fire] bar.” Check out more reactions under the music video link below.

Brezden’s “White Ferrari”

Meanwhile, the Alabama-born label boss isn’t putting all his eggs in the Brezden basket this week. On Friday (August 25), he and J. Cole are teaming up with Mike WiLL Made-It for the single “There I Go,” which has a lot of hype behind it for its star power. In any case, we look forward to seeing what Brezden can do on a song with Guwop, and for him to carve out his own lane. For more news and the latest updates on Gucci Mane, check back in with HNHH.

Mayor Of Tina Turner’s Birthplace Wants To Build A Statue In Her Honor

Mayor of Brownsville, Bill Rawls Jr., has shared that he’d like to build a statue in the Tennessee town to honor the late Tina Turner. Turner, who passed away Wednesday, was born in Brownsville, and attended Carver High School near Brownsville’s Heritage Park. Mayor Rawls shared that he wants the statue to live in the park, memorializing the performer’s legacy. He’s also getting support from various other local leaders, who share his desire to commemorate Turner’s career.

“When Tina stepped on stage, she owned it,” Mayor Rawls told TMZ. He added, “We want this statue to represent that passion. Tina was an inspiration to the entire world.” Rawls says Turner, “showed the people of Brownsville no matter where you start, you own your story about where you end up.” Brownsville is also the home of the Tina Turner museum, which has seen a surge in visitors since her passing.

“It’s crazy around here,” explained Sonia Outlaw-Clark, executive director of the the Tina Turner Museum. “There have been a few people leaving flowers.” Outlaw-Clark went on, telling Morning Edition more about the museum. The Tina Turner Museum houses various pieces of memorabilia, including costumes, records, photos, and more.

“My favorite piece is the [high school] yearbook because it shows her before she ever started her music career,” the executive director revealed. “They asked the students what they wanted to be, and she listed ‘entertainer.’ So we know she had aspirations of that even before she left Brownsville.” Outlaw-Clark believes that “[Turner’s] story of overcoming, becoming whatever you want to be,” is what fans admire the most. “And making things happen regardless of where you came from or what your circumstances are.”

Lizzo Defies Tennessee Anti-Drag Law At Tour Stop

Signed into law on March 2, Tennessee Senate Bill 3 bans “topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers, male or female impersonators in presence of minors.” Touted as a “child protection” bill, it is one of the dozens filed across multiple states. It is part of a wider trend of the hundreds of bills that target the LQBTQ+ community in the United States. Furthermore, SB3 shields itself from criticism by grouping drag performers in with adult entertainment acts. By putting “male and female impersonators” alongside “strippers”, it sets the tone for the bill’s perspective.

While the legislation was temporarily blocked by a federal judge, citing first amendment concerns, it looms large in Tennessee. Enter Lizzo, a loud and proud LGBTQ+ ally. Lizzo, since gaining her international stardom, has never been afraid to support the queer community. “It means so much because the LGBTQ community has embraced me as one of their own,” she told The Gay Times. Recently, the beloved singer took on the repressive legislation in her own way during a recent concert in the state.

Lizzo Welcomes Drag Queens On Stage

Lizzo is currently on the second leg of her Special 2our, which kicked off at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. At the climax of the show, Lizzo invited multiple drag queens onto the stage to perform alongside her. It was a bold and brazen act of defiance against the legislation, which currently sits in legal limbo. The queens are all local to Tennessee, according to reports. The on-stage moment showcases the thriving scene present in the state despite the ban.

Posting to social media, Lizzo shared the moment with her fans. “THANK YOU TO THESE BEAUTIFUL DRAG QUEENS FOR SHOWING THEIR PRIDE IN TENNESSEE” she captioned the clip, along with a rainbow of hearts. The replies were filled with heartfelt messages from fans and queens alike, overwhelmed by Lizzo’s actions. Lizzo is set to perform again in Tennessee on Monday, taking to the stage at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. Lizzo also has upcoming shows in Missouri and Louisiana. Missouri is attempting to pass a law that would “criminalize engaging, organizing, or authorizing the viewing of an adult cabaret performance on public property.” Louisiana has not yet seen anti-drag legislation but it could occur in the conservative-leaning state.
